Olivier Giroud returns to the scoresheet to nudge Arsene Wenger, Riyad Mahrez takes to the international stage to maintain his form, while Rafa Benitez counts Fabricio Coloccini out of Newcastle’s looming Canaries clash…

Giroud offers reminder

Olivier Giroud volleyed home from close range as France enjoyed a 3-2 win over Netherlands in an emotional night in Amsterdam, as fans and players remembered the recently deceased Dutch legend Johan Cruyff.

The Scout Says: In light of Danny Welbeck’s return from injury, Olivier Giroud has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal, starting just one of the Gunners’ last four league ties. Welbeck, meanwhile, has repaid the faith invested in him by Arsene Wenger, notching three goals and one assist in three starts and two cameos. Priced at 7.3, Welbeck certainly represents an alluring option if he was guaranteed to start up top for both fixtures in the Gunners’ double Gameweek 34 (CRY, WBA). However, the fact he’s still not completely shaken off his knee injury and faces obvious competition from Giroud heightens his rotation risk during a period in which Arsenal embark on three matches in eight days.

United Pair Lay On Goals

Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay earned assists for their respective nations as France secured an away win over Netherlands.

The Scout Says: In terms of harnessing Manchester United’s attacking potential in their double Gameweek 34 (AVL, CRY), Martial is our preferred selection at present. Although the 7.6-priced Frenchman failed to score in his previous three league starts, only four forwards have amassed more shots on target (five) in their last four outings. Marcus Rashford (three goals in four) catches the eye by virtue of his 4.5 valuation, yet Wayne Rooney’s imminent return negates his security of starts. Ultimately, Louis van Gaal’s side are still struggling to gain any attacking momentum (two goals in three) but will be confident after their Manchester derby victory and could well flourish against an Aston Villa outfit that has conceded more goals than any other side (59) and a struggling Crystal Palace side that is without a clean sheet since Gameweek 19.

Willian Back Amongst The Returns

Willian laid on the assist for Douglas Costa’s opener in a 2-2 draw between Brazil and Uruguay in their World Cup Qualifier.

The Scout Says: After delivering returns in just two of his last ten league appearances, Willian used Brazil’s qualifier to get amongst the assists once more. Despite drawing three successive blanks in the league, Willian has posted some impressive numbers across his last four outings, ranking second among Chelsea’s midfield for attempts (seven) and joint-second among all his counterparts for key passes (17). While Chelsea are not treated to a double Gameweek 34, their upcoming trip to Aston Villa could encourage Gameweek 33 wildcarders to secure a differential from the champions’ squad, with Willian a clear option.

Mahrez Figures in Algerian Rout

Riyad Mahrez continued his rich vein of form by earning a brace of assists for Algeria in a 7-1 rout of Ethiopia in their African Cup of Nations qualifying tie.

The Scout Says: Coupled with two goals in three league starts, Mahrez’s growing influence on the internationals stage acts as a timely reminder of the dangers of selling him in the pursuit of extra double Gameweek 34 assets. Mahrez tops the Fantasy Premier League ranks for points per game with a 7.2 average, illustrating his capacity to outscore potential replacements in a single outing. Moreover, the Foxes enjoy a promising home tie against Swansea City in Gameweek 35, which would put non-owners in a nerve-shredding scenario.

Coloccini Set to Remain Sidelined

Rafa Benitez revealed that Fabricio Coloccini is still contending with a calf complaint and is unlikely to be passed fit for Newcastle United’s crunch trip to fellow strugglers Norwich City in Gameweek 32:

“I think Norwich will be too close for him. He is undergoing treatment and he is improving but when you have been away for a while. You need to time to have match fitness again.”

The Scout Says: Assuming Daryl Janmaat can recover from the knee knock that forced him to withdraw from the Netherlands squad, the marauding right-back remains the choice route into the Magpies’ rearguard ahead of their double Gameweek 34 (SWA, MCI). Aside from being the most secure starter, Janmaat ranks joint-seventh among defenders for shots on target (seven) and joint-tenth for key passes (22). Newcastle managed just one clean sheet in their last 15 outings but have seemingly tightened up under the guidance of Rafa Benitez – they’ve yet to conceded a “big chance” with the former Liverpool boss at the helm. While that could bode well for the vital trip to East Anglia, Coloccini’s prolonged absence will come as a blow and those considering Janmaat for Gameweek 34 will be eager for the Argentine to make a return to at least offer Benitez more options in his troubled back four.

In light of the Everton/CPL news, is waiting until 36 to WC still a valid tactic? I still much prefer the look of my BB team in 37.

Can get the following XI for 34 with one -4 to get the two Everton players in in 33 - will this be enough?

    ROBLES
    BELLERIN/MORENO/ROJO
    PAYET/Mahrez/OZIL/YAYA
    KUN/Kane/LUKAKU

I am looking to wait until GW36 to WC (and BB GW37) because I want to TC Lukaku in GW33. WC now (GW32) just seems too early. Too much could happen between now and a BB in GW34. So basically, my desire to TC Lukaku in GW33 is driving the rest of my planning.

For most people no, but I actually think you could do it with that team. Depending on your ranking etc the late WC and bb 37 could be a huge differential.

Cheers both, think I might stick to my guns. Reluctant to BB while not wanting to lose Kane or Mahrez/Huth, and at least the Everton announcement takes away the possibility on missing out on a TC with a TGW.

Yes if you can already dish out 9 DGWers with Kane and Mahrez without WCing and playing 11 in GW35 as well, it might be already enough. That late wildcard in GW36 with BB in 37 might shoot you up the sky if used correctly. I see huge potential in that.

    A little help please lads

    Current team

    Schmeichel, Hennesey
    Kos, Smalling, VVD, Simpson, Otamendi
    Payet, Alli, Eriksen, Mahrez, Siggy
    Kun, Kane, Paloschi

    2 FTs 1.7 ITB

Is it worth using the wc to get to this

    Cech, Robles
    Kos, Rojo, Clyne, Sakho, Janmaat
    Ozil, Payet, Lanzini, Mahrez, Bolasie
    Kun, Lukaku, Martial

I would tc Lukaku in 33 and swap Bolaise for Firmino in 34

or just use my 2 FTs and go in 33? (I would probably get Ivan and Welbz)

Looking at Kane/Paloschi and the fact that you are anyways going to lose Kane, seems it is worthy of a WC right now. Unless Kane's inevitable rise (either before deadline or after,) is going to earn you money.

No point WCing this week IMO, it just closes down options that might become apparent after another week's games. WHM and LIV have good fixtures in GW37 for the TC.

    DDG*. Gomes*.
    Bellerin*. Gabriel*. Rojo*. Sakho*. Fuchs.
    Özil*. Coutinho*. Firmino*. Payet*. Lennon*.
    Kun*. Lukaku*. Kane.

Ditched Mahrez but think he's regressed, and they'll grind out 1-0 wins from now on.

IMO DDG/Cech and Robles is the way to go but if you want a keeper with a DGW34 and a GW35 fixture you need Elliot, Migs, Foster or Cech (and maybe Hart if fit)

Is this a good enough DGW 34 team without WC? Seeing if I can hold it till GW 36...and BB in 37.

    Gomes (Hennessey)
    Moreno Evans Janmaat (Daniels, Simpson)
    Firmino Sanchez Payet Ozil (Alli)
    Aguero Lukaku Mitrovic

The defence is pretty crappy, but it is what I can manage without a WC.

If you can afford to keep Kane then good. But if you are lacking just a little bit of money to make your craggy backline respectable or your tottering midfield sturdy then, losing Kane might need to be weighed up.

Happy to take that risk then loan* him back in for Lukaku for GW35. I'd be much more worried about not owning Kane during the single gameweeks than I would be not owning Lukaku.

I say loan, I'll just be free transferring him in and then free transferring him out again.

And I like Ruddy's GW37 fixtures. Can play Cech in any other GW. And I trust Norwich's def more than Evertons. This is also a GW34 WC team so I'll be loaded on Eve in 33. don't have BB. I think Coutinho performs better with Studge/Origi in the side than Firmino.

Rojo has only missed 2 games when fit

with Shaw injured Rojo is nailed.

But I am waiting till 33 to wc, so if Rojo doesn't start v Everton then I will either find the extra for Smalling or I'll swap Cech for DDG and try to squeeze an 2nd Arsenal defender in.

LvG has used so many defenders because, bar Blind, every single one of our senior defenders have been injured this season, often many at the same time

at one point we had Darmian, Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Rojo and even Young who has been used in defence injured

Rojo has played every single game bar one when fit, in the last TWO seasons.

Welbeck - still carrying a knee injury and Giroud still fit?

would it be fair to say he may be worth a punt for Watford but is not nailed to start both games in the DGW?

    1. Ziro Becomes One
      • 11 Years

yes. he still should get subbed-on minutes but its basically a toss-up between who you can get doubling in 34 and not missing out 35 at the moment in the strikers' department. Not many of them around sadly.

I would give up my 3rd striker spot for a 6th mid-spot so very easily right now.

While there is still hope Welbeck will be available for at least one of England’s fixtures, concerns linger over whether he will be able to play regularly at the finals. Arsène Wenger had said over the weekend that starting Welbeck in Barcelona on Wednesday and then at Goodison Park three days later had represented a risk.

“I had many hesitations to play him before the game because he is still not completely over his knee problem,” said the Arsenal manager. , who saw Welbeck score the opening goal at Everton. “We have to be cautious, but I pushed it because I knew this was now or never [for the team’s Premier League title bid]””

In some ways I am envious of those that still have their wildcard in tact but have already used their BB chip.

Yes, the potential points haul with the BB chip is massive but it is also a lot more difficult to get a better balanced squad out with the single weeks in mind. Whereas those who have used it can focus on getting a strong XI out for GW34 whilst comfortably keeping hold of prized assets such as Kane + Mahrez.

Think I'm going to go for Lanzini. Like his Gw37 fixtures more and West ham more attacking

Thoughts about this gw 34 and 37 team?

    Cech Robles
    Clyne Rojo Sagna Evans Simpson
    Sanchez Coutinho Ozil Payet Lennon
    Aguero Lukaku Mitrovic

    Robles (Cech)
    Clyne Rojo Nyom (Sagna Evans)
    Coutinho Firmino Payet Willian (Ozil)
    Lukaku Deeney Costa

    35: Lennon --> Willian
    36: Aguero + Simpson --> Costa + Nyom
    37: Sanchez + Mitrovic --> Firmino + Deeney (-4)

How can Manchester United have Villa and Palace at home for a DGW and I still can't justify in my head getting any of their players in a WC choice?

Their top scorer has 7 goals for the season. No thanks on the attack for me.

Defence is a different question mind. Blind being classified as a mid is annoying, going to have to punt on Rojo and hope for the best!

Just said this exact thing to Jafooli, Blind being a mid is so damn frustrating. If he was a defender taking corners, getting high passing accuracy and keeping CS he'd be a no brainer.

Rojo for me, he should be nailed mate, I wouldn't worry to much about that

Because you've been hurt before, clearly. This is the reality. I'm sure Sven-Göran Eriksson, or whoever it is next, will set it all to right.

      🙂

The DGW33 has made everything more difficult as well, I may have got away with 1 or 2 at the back but those space now taken with DDGWs.
