Olivier Giroud returns to the scoresheet to nudge Arsene Wenger, Riyad Mahrez takes to the international stage to maintain his form, while Rafa Benitez counts Fabricio Coloccini out of Newcastle’s looming Canaries clash…

Giroud offers reminder

Olivier Giroud volleyed home from close range as France enjoyed a 3-2 win over Netherlands in an emotional night in Amsterdam, as fans and players remembered the recently deceased Dutch legend Johan Cruyff.

The Scout Says: In light of Danny Welbeck’s return from injury, Olivier Giroud has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal, starting just one of the Gunners’ last four league ties. Welbeck, meanwhile, has repaid the faith invested in him by Arsene Wenger, notching three goals and one assist in three starts and two cameos. Priced at 7.3, Welbeck certainly represents an alluring option if he was guaranteed to start up top for both fixtures in the Gunners’ double Gameweek 34 (CRY, WBA). However, the fact he’s still not completely shaken off his knee injury and faces obvious competition from Giroud heightens his rotation risk during a period in which Arsenal embark on three matches in eight days.

United Pair Lay On Goals

Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay earned assists for their respective nations as France secured an away win over Netherlands.

The Scout Says: In terms of harnessing Manchester United’s attacking potential in their double Gameweek 34 (AVL, CRY), Martial is our preferred selection at present. Although the 7.6-priced Frenchman failed to score in his previous three league starts, only four forwards have amassed more shots on target (five) in their last four outings. Marcus Rashford (three goals in four) catches the eye by virtue of his 4.5 valuation, yet Wayne Rooney’s imminent return negates his security of starts. Ultimately, Louis van Gaal’s side are still struggling to gain any attacking momentum (two goals in three) but will be confident after their Manchester derby victory and could well flourish against an Aston Villa outfit that has conceded more goals than any other side (59) and a struggling Crystal Palace side that is without a clean sheet since Gameweek 19.

Willian Back Amongst The Returns

Willian laid on the assist for Douglas Costa’s opener in a 2-2 draw between Brazil and Uruguay in their World Cup Qualifier.

The Scout Says: After delivering returns in just two of his last ten league appearances, Willian used Brazil’s qualifier to get amongst the assists once more. Despite drawing three successive blanks in the league, Willian has posted some impressive numbers across his last four outings, ranking second among Chelsea’s midfield for attempts (seven) and joint-second among all his counterparts for key passes (17). While Chelsea are not treated to a double Gameweek 34, their upcoming trip to Aston Villa could encourage Gameweek 33 wildcarders to secure a differential from the champions’ squad, with Willian a clear option.

Mahrez Figures in Algerian Rout

Riyad Mahrez continued his rich vein of form by earning a brace of assists for Algeria in a 7-1 rout of Ethiopia in their African Cup of Nations qualifying tie.

The Scout Says: Coupled with two goals in three league starts, Mahrez’s growing influence on the internationals stage acts as a timely reminder of the dangers of selling him in the pursuit of extra double Gameweek 34 assets. Mahrez tops the Fantasy Premier League ranks for points per game with a 7.2 average, illustrating his capacity to outscore potential replacements in a single outing. Moreover, the Foxes enjoy a promising home tie against Swansea City in Gameweek 35, which would put non-owners in a nerve-shredding scenario.

Coloccini Set to Remain Sidelined

Rafa Benitez revealed that Fabricio Coloccini is still contending with a calf complaint and is unlikely to be passed fit for Newcastle United’s crunch trip to fellow strugglers Norwich City in Gameweek 32:

“I think Norwich will be too close for him. He is undergoing treatment and he is improving but when you have been away for a while. You need to time to have match fitness again.”

The Scout Says: Assuming Daryl Janmaat can recover from the knee knock that forced him to withdraw from the Netherlands squad, the marauding right-back remains the choice route into the Magpies’ rearguard ahead of their double Gameweek 34 (SWA, MCI). Aside from being the most secure starter, Janmaat ranks joint-seventh among defenders for shots on target (seven) and joint-tenth for key passes (22). Newcastle managed just one clean sheet in their last 15 outings but have seemingly tightened up under the guidance of Rafa Benitez – they’ve yet to conceded a “big chance” with the former Liverpool boss at the helm. While that could bode well for the vital trip to East Anglia, Coloccini’s prolonged absence will come as a blow and those considering Janmaat for Gameweek 34 will be eager for the Argentine to make a return to at least offer Benitez more options in his troubled back four.

Latest version in the all or nothing WC for GW32 :-

    DDG, Cech
Sakho, Clyne, Bellerin, Rojo, Funes Mori
    KDB, Ozil, Firminho, Lennon, Shelvey
    Aguero, Lukku, Mitrovic

3 doubles GW33 and TC Lukaku, BB 15 doubles GW34, 1 FT GW35 then Ighalo and Deeney for GW36-38

Thoughts positive and negative both welcome - thanks 🙂

KDB has 2 away fixtures, so not for me. Clyne will probably get rotated in 34 due to Euro fixture.
Loving the all or nothing attitude though.

    My Chip navigating strategy:
    1) Using the WC this week itself. Worked out a WC team I like but notable absentees include Kane, Sanchez, LEI defender.
    2) I have sacrificed and gone with Smalling over Rojo due to security of starts. Strongly considering a double up but currently going with Jags over Rojo
    3) Triple captain will be used on Lukaku in gw33 (wat and cpl). Will have 3 DGWers this week.
    4) BB in gw34 with 14 DGWers plus Mahrez
    5) Will field a full XI in gw35 but 5-4-1
    6) Will have 11 DGWers for gw37 with Ozil, Bellerin and Monreal on my bench
    7) This entire stretch involves 0 hits

    Anything I'm doing gravely wrong?

Makes sense, except 2nd fixture is Liverpool. I am under the vague impression that there is some sort of local rivalry there. 🙂

Thinking of pulling the WC trigger on Wednesday after the international games.

    Lukaku TC in GW 33.

    WC Draft.

    Elliot Mignolet
    Koscielny Simpson Olsson Dann Coleman
    Sanchez Ozil Coutinho Payet Bolasie
    Aguero Lukaku Rashford

A hit will give me 11 playing in GW 35. No Firmino or Newcastle attack is a worry, but happy with this.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

        It's something I'm monitoring.

        Another option is

Hennessey, Janmaat and Wickham instead of Elliot Dann and Rashford. Thoughts?

That seems safer to me. I like Wickhams dgw33 fixtures, Newcastle have been improved by Rafa. Hennessey has 2 DGWs.
Don't get me wrong - Rashford is an exceptional option with form, fixtures and price but just major doubts that he'll play regularly diminish the appeal.

Too early imo. We tend to forget that a player returning from a serious injury typically needs at least a few full matches to return to full fitness. When he is ready, it'll be nearing the end of the season.

He would at most play from the bench in one of the double is my guess.

        Thanks Daaf!
But this team scored 88, 71 and 89 in the last 3 GW's
Three GW scores inside top 70k!

For this GW, i think Williams, Siggy and Eriksen are the ones with worst fixtures…

Considering this trio, and maybe Austin, what would you do?

Nice, fine captain choices I suppose. And the Swansea players have done nicely for you.

Liverpool games go all sorts of ways, you just never know. I would want to play Eriksen. Siggy and Williams do have a meh fixtures. Will probably be 1-1 or under 2.5 goals. Arnautovic similar story.

Since you're asking for a short term investment I would bring in Sanchez or an Arsenal defender., or maybe Ivanovic.

      Hey man!

See you're chasing, so I'd be tempted to get Austin out for Welbeck as a punt (think he'll keep playing for now, but I'd keep away from him on WC), alongside perhaps doing Otamendi out for Ivan to chase the Villa. Bench Siggy/Eriksen. I have a similar issue with my team:

      Butland
      Fuchs Daniels Ivan
      Eriksen Payet Mahrez Siggy Shaq

        DK why it cut off!

Kane, Kun, Vardy are my forwards, with 1ft / 2.5 itb

Thinking I punt it out and do Eriksen --> Sanchez, giving me a midfield of:
        Sanchez Payet Mahrez Siggy

Puntius maximus, BUT if it explodes could really pay off!
Plus I'm wildcarding next so yolo haha.

Problem with wildcarding now or the next gameweek is that you'll get a funny looking team for that particular gameweek and/or the next, that might diminish the returns in the projected doubles in the first place.

Thoughts on this WC draft team?

Too much compromises? Or quite solid? Not enough Leicester? Shoot!

    Mignolet - Adrian
    Bellerin - Gabriel - Rojo - Sakho - Simpson
    Ozil - Payet - Coutinho - Bolasie - Alli
    Aguero - Kane - Lukaku

    0.3 left in the bank.

    1. Margarido
      • 13 Years
      9 years, 10 months ago

Gabriel would be a probable SGW player in 34
Rojo been subbed in 3 of the last 4… so also not a good prospect for the Double

Alli and Aguero could really become a more potent combo for the Double...

Why is everyone assuming Gabriel won't play two? Arsenal nothing left to play for and he's started for ages now bar his suspension

I'd try to keep Mahrez over Alli (depending on your SV) but it's bloody close - higher EO of Mahrez is the tipping factor for me, if he gets a haul it's a red arrow unless your team comes through.

Gabriel I also have in my draft but I don't like him atm, kind of feel like he's going to only play 1/2 of the games.

Have you considered Hennessey for Adrian? You'll have another DGWer in 33...

      Hope that helps!

      Thanks for your input!

I am not too sure about Gabriel, but Koscielny has a dodgy injury record of his own. His price is tempting though.

EO is effective ownership I presume. Haven't seen the term a lot. I don't really know what to do with Mahrez. Selling and buying back is not really an option, but I don't know whether I have room for him. That he is off penalty duties doesn't help, otherwise he might have edged it. Alli same story, but he's cheaper so I opted for him.

I am gonna swap Adrian out and go with Elliot. I need a GK with a decent game this week and can use the money.

      Thanks all.

Who's the captain choice for this final GW?

    I'm between 2:
Payet (CPL) -> Plays at home where he has never scored. Gotta end sooner rather than later. Palace suck at the back
Aguero (bou) -> Plays at 3pm rather than midday (Norwich), so better preparation. Bournemouth with little to play for. Would Cook and Francis be able to contain Aguero's movement? City beat them 5-1 (albeit without Aguero) at home.

    Tough choice!

Am also probably going to bring Sanchez in for one final time as a punt (will roll with Ozil from WC) - another option, perhaps?

    Any thoughts?

Ohhh Kane at Anfield! I am really unsure about that - Liverpool do tend to "show up" versus the big teams.

But it's an awesome shout - he's got goals vs. City and Arsenal and WHU away, too, so evidence of performance v. good teams, plus I'm likely to be removing Eriksen for Sanchez so the spurs cover might be key...

Good answer :). Let me know if you want me to answer anything 🙂

Didnt score at WHU..they lost 1-0.

Have the team above (and linked).
2 FTs for use before WC in 33.

Williams, Eriksen and Austin the likely sellers.

Nah, not for me - Liverpool are so useful to have players from, but for GW34 there's so many unknowns (UEL particularly) which mean I'm steering clear of all except the most boring, nailed on players. For me, these are Mignolet and Sakho.

I'll bring a 'Pool mid in @35 for the DGW37 but I don't like them in the first instance - the way I've set up my plan assumes I'll have Bolasie for the double dgw because I like his 33 fixtures and can see him nicking a goal on one of the 34s.

      1. Skipdipper
        • 14 Years
        9 years, 10 months ago

But then do you need to take hits in gw35 or just not having 14/15 double GW players for gw34?

        1. Individual
          • Fantasy Football Scout Member
          • 12 Years

No, I don't! Yeah I'm keeping some players for GW33 for values' sake/not liking alternatives who have DGWs:

          Hennessey Mignolet
          Bellerin Sakho Smalling Janmaat Simpson
          Bolasie Mahrez Ozil Lingard Payet
          Lukaku Kun Kane

          Then for 35 I do:

Lukaku -> Pelle to get in a player vs. Villa
          Bolasie -> Firmino/Coutinho

Which gives me the following 4-3-3
          Migs
Simpson Sakho Bellerin Janmaat / Smalling
Firmino Mahrez Ozil / Lingard Payet
          Pelle Kun Kane

          Get Lukaku back in GW37.

Kind of works! I can't see how you'd figure out 15x34DGWers then have enough for 35 for me.

Hope this helps - let me know if you have further qu's 🙂

Decent but KDB is a bit risky - might not play both games (if any) with just returning from injury and he didn't have a great away record ( like city in general). Both their gw34 fixs are away. Could be gold if it works out though
