Olivier Giroud returns to the scoresheet to nudge Arsene Wenger, Riyad Mahrez takes to the international stage to maintain his form, while Rafa Benitez counts Fabricio Coloccini out of Newcastle’s looming Canaries clash…

Giroud offers reminder

Olivier Giroud volleyed home from close range as France enjoyed a 3-2 win over Netherlands in an emotional night in Amsterdam, as fans and players remembered the recently deceased Dutch legend Johan Cruyff.

The Scout Says: In light of Danny Welbeck’s return from injury, Olivier Giroud has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal, starting just one of the Gunners’ last four league ties. Welbeck, meanwhile, has repaid the faith invested in him by Arsene Wenger, notching three goals and one assist in three starts and two cameos. Priced at 7.3, Welbeck certainly represents an alluring option if he was guaranteed to start up top for both fixtures in the Gunners’ double Gameweek 34 (CRY, WBA). However, the fact he’s still not completely shaken off his knee injury and faces obvious competition from Giroud heightens his rotation risk during a period in which Arsenal embark on three matches in eight days.

United Pair Lay On Goals

Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay earned assists for their respective nations as France secured an away win over Netherlands.

The Scout Says: In terms of harnessing Manchester United’s attacking potential in their double Gameweek 34 (AVL, CRY), Martial is our preferred selection at present. Although the 7.6-priced Frenchman failed to score in his previous three league starts, only four forwards have amassed more shots on target (five) in their last four outings. Marcus Rashford (three goals in four) catches the eye by virtue of his 4.5 valuation, yet Wayne Rooney’s imminent return negates his security of starts. Ultimately, Louis van Gaal’s side are still struggling to gain any attacking momentum (two goals in three) but will be confident after their Manchester derby victory and could well flourish against an Aston Villa outfit that has conceded more goals than any other side (59) and a struggling Crystal Palace side that is without a clean sheet since Gameweek 19.

Willian Back Amongst The Returns

Willian laid on the assist for Douglas Costa’s opener in a 2-2 draw between Brazil and Uruguay in their World Cup Qualifier.

The Scout Says: After delivering returns in just two of his last ten league appearances, Willian used Brazil’s qualifier to get amongst the assists once more. Despite drawing three successive blanks in the league, Willian has posted some impressive numbers across his last four outings, ranking second among Chelsea’s midfield for attempts (seven) and joint-second among all his counterparts for key passes (17). While Chelsea are not treated to a double Gameweek 34, their upcoming trip to Aston Villa could encourage Gameweek 33 wildcarders to secure a differential from the champions’ squad, with Willian a clear option.

Mahrez Figures in Algerian Rout

Riyad Mahrez continued his rich vein of form by earning a brace of assists for Algeria in a 7-1 rout of Ethiopia in their African Cup of Nations qualifying tie.

The Scout Says: Coupled with two goals in three league starts, Mahrez’s growing influence on the internationals stage acts as a timely reminder of the dangers of selling him in the pursuit of extra double Gameweek 34 assets. Mahrez tops the Fantasy Premier League ranks for points per game with a 7.2 average, illustrating his capacity to outscore potential replacements in a single outing. Moreover, the Foxes enjoy a promising home tie against Swansea City in Gameweek 35, which would put non-owners in a nerve-shredding scenario.

Coloccini Set to Remain Sidelined

Rafa Benitez revealed that Fabricio Coloccini is still contending with a calf complaint and is unlikely to be passed fit for Newcastle United’s crunch trip to fellow strugglers Norwich City in Gameweek 32:

“I think Norwich will be too close for him. He is undergoing treatment and he is improving but when you have been away for a while. You need to time to have match fitness again.”

The Scout Says: Assuming Daryl Janmaat can recover from the knee knock that forced him to withdraw from the Netherlands squad, the marauding right-back remains the choice route into the Magpies’ rearguard ahead of their double Gameweek 34 (SWA, MCI). Aside from being the most secure starter, Janmaat ranks joint-seventh among defenders for shots on target (seven) and joint-tenth for key passes (22). Newcastle managed just one clean sheet in their last 15 outings but have seemingly tightened up under the guidance of Rafa Benitez – they’ve yet to conceded a “big chance” with the former Liverpool boss at the helm. While that could bode well for the vital trip to East Anglia, Coloccini’s prolonged absence will come as a blow and those considering Janmaat for Gameweek 34 will be eager for the Argentine to make a return to at least offer Benitez more options in his troubled back four.

    5th Midfielder conundrum

I'll be having Bolasie for my 5th mid on GW 33 and planning to switching on to, preferably, a DGWer. One that would fit the budget is Antonio or Lanzini.

The problem with that is, they have a blank on GW 35. I do have an FT but I need 3 transfers to field 11 DGW in GW 37. So effectively, using that transfer - to, say, Alli - is a hit.

And on top of that if I want to transfer back to a DGWer is another hit.

So I got a few options here

    A) Bolasie -> Antonio on GW 34.
Play 10 players on GW 35
    Carry on with no hits

    B) Bolasie -> Antonio on GW 34
Antonio -> Alli on GW 35
Alli -> Antonio on GW 36
    Effectively -8 pts

    C) Bolasie -> Alli on GW 34. Missing out 1 DGW player
Play 11 players on GW 35
Alli -> Antonio on GW 36
    Effectively -4 pts.

Seems like A or C is most sensible.

So it's about Alli (sto WBA) or Antonio (lei WAT) + 4 pts?
Only concern is rotation risk for Antonio / Lanzini though.

and yeah if it wasn't enough I already have Lukaku, Rojo and Payet on my bench for GW35.

        I've considered it actually.

But I'm all out on Liverpool. Sakho and 2 of Cout/Firm/Sturridge by GW 35.

I can go Milner but it'll mean missing out on Barkley or Antonio / Lanzini which is a better DGW37 mid IMO.

Iam doing the same moves, 33 Alli>Bolasie in W.C, 34 Bolasie>Antonio, 35 Antonio>Alli. I can't afford to get Kane back so don't want to miss the spurs coverage so getting Alli back.

And will you get Alli to another DGW player by GW37, for a hit?

        Like I said, that's option B

Alli (STO) -8pts seems like a big risk. Can pay of well but how likely will he get 9+pts that week?

Ya i know, but i can only think as far as GW35 atm 😀 I might have to play with 10players in GW35 otherwise, i will look at the conditions of my Minileague rivals and act accordingly.

Fair point. I'm just a planning maniac so considering all planned transfer. 😀

If I'm thinking only up to GW 35. Then yes, Alli is definitely a good pick for GW 35, even for a hit.

The lack of love for palace attackers I find odd I must say. Yes they've been in woeful form but they're now in a real battle and have Norwich, Everton at home in a double. Hardly great defensives. I'm not sure I'd rather have any single players from the fixtures that week than Bolaise. How can you play this game and not want to gamble on him for those fixtures?

If you don't like the two matches afterwards, just transfer him out for 34 for a pool player. Simple.

Come on chaps, let's all live a little.

      Yeah live a little.

      I'm getting Bolasie, although I don't know as a placeholder of Cout/Firm or Antonio/Lanzini.

Preferrably the latter so I can play LIV mid for the two home fixtures (TOT STO),
but means having to decide which player out of the two to get rather than having two weeks to monitor how they perform with Sturridge back in the side.

If not going with Cout/Firm outright, I'll have to play Anto/Lanz (CPL) and Ozil (whm), which tbh isn't the worst of fixtures.

Ah the permutations. The dilemma. At the end of the day does it even matter? OF COURSE IT DOES ITS.

FPL IS LOVE. FPL IS LIFE.

I'd rather go for a Liverpool mid for GW 35 if you still have the slot.

Bolasie is not a good player playing for not a great team. Just because he plays twice you are blinded by the fact he might do something.

He scored 4 goals last season. 4 goals this season. Why not Zaha? Cabaye? Both of those are not good picks either but just as good as Bolasie.

You want to replace Mahrez who has a ppg of 7+ with a total non entity. I really dont get it.

Now someone like Firmino? Yes I understand. He has shown he can score points consistently and is a decent pick.

Just get Barry, save some money and pocket the 8 points gw33 and 34.

      1. Koflok

He has good underlying stats. Good fixtures.

And yes DGW hype, but justified and obviously way better than Zaha, Cabaye or friggin Barry.

Most probably will play as a 4th mid on GW 33 and replaced by a better 5th mid (Lanzini / Antonio / Alli) in GW 34.

That leaves, say, Ozil (whm) vs Bolasie (NOR EVE).

I'd take my chance with Bolasie

    Thoughts on this WC33 draft?

    Robles - Elliot
    Bellerin - Rojo - Sakho - Ward - Simpson
    Sanchez - Ozil - Firmino - Mahrez - Barkley
    Aguero - Lukaku - Rashford

    2.5 ITB

Gives me 4 DGW33 and 12 DGW 34. I would then get rid of Ward and Barkley/Lukaku to field 11 in 35 for free. The only pick I'm not sure about is Rashford. Would Ighalo or Mitrovic be better options?

Is Clyne really the most nailed Liverpool defender?

Flanagan could possibly nab a game at RB, no? Especially with all the fixture congestion (Europa too) and Flanagan isn't even registered for Europa...

Arsenal play on Sunday(gw34), Thursday(gw34) then Sunday (gw35l.

There's quite a decent game between the two GW34 fixtures, both are home games as well. Not to mention Gabriel played all the games in the Christmas period (though Kosc was injured then).

Seeing as he's first choice, I'm expecting him to play both the home games but he may get rotated for the away game in GW35.

I own him and he's nailed on for me.

But yes there will be rotation, just with any other player from any other team with big squads.

I reckon he will play 2 games out of GW34-35 and that's fine by me. Not too mention with good fixtures in GW 36 and GW 38 where he should play too.

Even as a SGW player in GW 34, is there any other better options at that price range?

Hoping I'm wrong and he'll play all 3, which is still a possibility. Whatever it is definitely worth the punt at 4.3m and use the funds elsewhere.

Has anyone considered loading up on Crystal Palace players for GW33 and removing them on a wildcard right afterwards?

Arsenal (A) + Man Utd (A) followed by a blank is just about as bad as it gets and that would mean you can have less players from Man Utd, West Ham who also blank in GW35.

How often are the player projections updated?

I was looking throughh them to try and work out if various hit combinations for gw 35 might pay off. However when i see giroud iis fourth in projections but welbeck nowhere it makes me wonder how often they are updated.

Can anyone tell me when they last were?

Once or twice a week, often Monday and Friday. They run of the same numbers as the RMT feature. I've seen it too and I think its just a bit of an oversight on the likelihood to start input variable. I find it best to copy it into a spreadsheet and normalise the goal and assist numbers to a per90 statistic.

Well he missed 5 games through suspension and did he miss one or two games because of injury? Must have been 8-9 ppg

Of these DGW players, who will play both games in their DGW?

    Sagna
    Cathcart
    Lingard

      Cathcart both
Lingard will play in both but he'll be subbed - he won't get near 180 minutes
Sagna - it's his starting place to lose but he may get rested before champions league tie

Mitrovic stats looks good. Is he option for DGW?

Not for me, no, but if you're confident he can do something he's definitely an option.

Likely to score/assist or get a red card at least.

        Rather have Ozil and Sanchez.

Very tough. If it were me, I'd go for Firminio...probably
