Next up this Tuesday evening we roll out a heads-up on our Scout Picks thinking for the Gameweek ahead. This list of 22 players will also include some names in contention for a place in our Spot the Differential article, though will, of course, be subject to change, depending on the injury situation over the next few days.

Here’s the cast currently under consideration for Gameweek 32…

Goalkeepers

West Ham United have proved a tough nut to crack at the Boleyn Ground, recording clean sheets in four of their previous five home ties. Meanwhile, weekend visitors Crystal Palace mustered just five goals in their last six road trips, which brings Adrian (5.0) – who’s scooped five bonus points and four save points in a quartet of starts – onto our radar.

Joe Hart’s calf injury has paved the way for Willy Caballero (4.8) to earn a start between the sticks against a Bournemouth unit that registered a paltry two attempts last time out.

Defenders

We’re currently mulling over a four-man defence for the upcoming round of fixtures due to a number of strong options at the back.

With three assists in his last two starts, Hector Bellerin (6.3) is translating his marauding wing play into tangible Fantasy returns. Crucially, the right-back boasts a points per game (ppg) average (4.5) that surpasses the likes of Laurent Koscielny (4.4) and Gabriel Paulista (4.3), rendering him the choice route into Arsenal’s defence as they prepare to host a Watford outfit that’s drawn seven blanks in ten outings.

Branislav Ivanovic (6.6) piques our interest ahead of Chelsea’s journey to a Villa side that have scored twice in previous six league outings. Having notched two goal and three assists, the Serbia international serves as the prime source of coverage for a defence that has registered four clean sheets in their last six away matches.

The King Power Stadium has been a fortress for Leicester since the turn of the year, with Claudio Ranieri’s men recording six shut-outs in their previous seven home encounters. The Foxes’ rearguard furnishes us with a host of tantalising options at home to a Southampton outfit that’s failed rto score in four of their previous eight on the road, but Christian Fuchs’ (5.0) knack for accruing bonus points (19 – second among all defenders) elevates his standing above the other starters.

Although Patrick van Aanholt (4.7) has suffered from the fact that Sunderland last earned a clean sheet in Gameweek 14, his propensity for attacking returns (five goals and three assists) remains a key selling point. Furthermore, the Black Cats will fancy their chances of rebuffing West Brom, bearing in mind that the Baggies’ in-form Salomon Rondon is set to arrive back late from international duties with Venezuela and may be somewhat fatigued.

Norwich’s back-to-back clean sheets has led us to explore their budget recruits. Given that he grabbed five out of a six maximum bonus points during the Canaries’ two shut-outs, new boy Timm Klose (4.2) gets our backing for the visit of a Newcastle side that’s failed to score in three of their last four away match-ups.

In light of our faith in the Hammers’ ability to keep it tight on home turf the ever-present Aaron Cresswell (5.7) also factors into our thinking.

Midfielders

Stoke’s main assets are likely to fade into obscurity beyond this weekend, when their schedule turns nasty (liv, TOT, mci) and Fantasy managers favour double Gameweek players. For now, though, Marko Arnautovic (6.6) remains in our thoughts as Swansea roll up to the Britannia. The Austrian has netted seven of his last eight goals at home and is pitted against a backline with a single clean sheet on their travels all season.

With Roberto Firmino (hamstring) still a slight doubt for Liverpool’s home clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Philippe Coutinho (8.1) represents our favoured path into their attack. The twinkle-toed Brazilian scored three times across his previous five appearances in all competitions and – despite contending with a spate of injuries – has racked up five double-figure hauls.

Expected to be passed fit after sustaining a knock in the Tyne-Wear derby, Wahbi Khazri (6.0) will look to pull the strings when the Baggies roll up at the Stadium of Light. As the Wearsiders’ premier creative influence, the Tunisian midfielder is well place to deliver Fantasy returns against a West Brom rearguard that managed four clean sheets in their last 20 outings.

Notwithstanding Alexis Sanchez’s upturn in form (one goal and two assists in three), Mesut Ozil’s (9.7) consistency throughout the campaign gives him the edge for Arsenal’s clash with Watford..

Dimitri Payet (8.3) is in the midst of a purple patch (two goals and four assists in five) as West Ham face off against a Palace outfit that’s without a shut-out in 11 fixtures.

Riyad Mahrez (7.4) scored in two of his last three starts and will lock horns with a Saints back line that surrendered eight goals in their last five match-ups.

Buoyed by an eye-catching performance on the international stage, Dele Alli (6.2) will look to punish a Liverpool outfit that have mustered a mere two clean sheets in their last ten league matches.

With regards to harnessing Man City’s attacking potential in midfield, it’s a toss-up between Yaya Toure (8.5) and David Silva (9.9), who are both struggling for form but are capable of explosive returns at the Vitality Stadium.

Forwards

With Diego Costa serving the final match of his suspension, Loic Remy (7.1) looks likely to spearhead Chelsea’s attack in the West Midlands. Even in the event that the Frenchman loses out to Bertrand Traore, his pace against tired legs spells trouble for a Villa side that conceded a whopping 18 goals in their last six fixtures.

Notching three goals and one assist in five appearances, Danny Welbeck (7.3) has cemented Arsenal’s lone-striker berth for the time being. Given that the Hornets haven’t carded a shut-out on the road since Gameweek 16, the former Manchester United marksman will be preying on those insecurities at the Emirates.

Having tallied three goals and one assist in his previous six starts, Jermain Defoe (5.1) is in fine fettle before the West Brom head-to-head. The ex-Spurs forward is prone to short bursts of scoring (he beckoned in the New Year with a quick-fire brace and hat-trick) and throughout his career has showcased a propensity for putting less illustrious sides to the sword.

Sergio Aguero (13.6) came up short in four of his last five starts but is handed a great platform to get back on track against the Cherries’ unconvincing defence.

Harry Kane (10.4) is the league’s form striker (five goals and one assist in four) and one of the few fixture-proof players on the market as Spurs make their way to Anfield.

Romelu Lukaku (8.9) chalked up three goals in his previous five starts but could find it tough going against a Manchester United rearguard that’s conceded the fewest home goals (seven).

On Standby

Considering the surfeit of viable pick-ups across all price brackets, there are a bevy of players that could yet manoeuvre themselves into our team.

If Joe Hart (5.7) is passed fit before the weekend, he’ll usurp his Argentinian stand-in.

As mentioned above, Alexis Sanchez (10.8) – who registered 10 attempts in his last four starts – has put us on alert with his recent flourish. Staying within the North Londoners’ camp, only two midfielders mustered more shots inside the box than Alex Iwobi (4.5) last Gameweek, who is pushing for a place in our Spot the Differentials article.

Chelsea midfield trio Willian (7.1), Oscar (7.9) and Cesc Fabregas (8.4) are all jostling for attention ahead of the trip to Villa Park. Although the latter netted three goals in his last four matches, Oscar ranked top among his Blues counterparts for attempts (12), shots inside the box (seven) and shots on target (four) during that time. As for Willian, he charted joint-second among all midfielders for key passes (17).

Michail Antonio (5.4) ranked joint-third for attempts (12), joint-second for shots inside the box (seven) and joint-top for shots on target (five) across his previous quartet of starts, and looks likely to revert to a midfield berth following James Tomkins’ return to fitness. As for Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.3), he carded attacking returns (two goals and assists) in each of his last four starts, which bodes well for a trip to the Britannia Stadium.

Up top, Daniel Sturridge’s (9.9) return to form and fitness has seen him score in each of his last two league outings ahead of an Anfield head-to-head with Tottenham.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Rafa Benitez Aleksandar Mitrovic (6.2) into our thinking. The Serbian sits joint-top with Kane for efforts inside the box (seven) in the last two Gameweeks and, having bagged an equaliser against Sunderland, looks pivotal to Newcastle’s survival bid as they head to fellow strugglers Norwich.

The Community Champions

Having scrapped the weekly vote idea from last season, we now operate a lottery system to pick our weekly candidates. The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

Red Devil leads the way after beating the Picks by 25 points in Gameweek 17.

Gameweek 31’s Community Champion Gawa 11 beat the Scout Picks by 74 points to 70. The Gameweek 32 Community Champion is Van Dear Vaart. This is his 10th season playing FPL, with 2011/12’s finish of 153344 his highest.

In addition to a shot at the £100 Amazon prize, FantasyBet are offering a chance for further prizes to Community Champions that are eligible to play their games. More details can be found here.

            West brom fixtures are not good. West ham yes worth considering but in budget option reid has played just one of last 5 and collins tomkins just back from injury (still flagged) not sure who to pick.
            And then 3 everton looks the way forward and right now can't see eve mid worth getting.

          I looked at the history of newcasle players.
          Lascelles has played last 360 mins he can be an option.
          Taylor too has played last 3 matches. He is a great enabler and out of watford Newcastle West brom West ham 5th def only for bb 34 taylor looks good. But yes will have to check this week for nailedness.

                  Yaa I see the point now!
                  Possibly coutinho to barkley jags to sakho which gives me 1.4 mil extra to upgrade rojo and saylor.

      Worrying times for your team.
      Downgrade Coutinho to perhaps Lanzini.
      Upgrade staylor, Gabriel and rojo. None of these are nailed.
      Jagielka double with with Robles is unnecessary. Get Reid in instead of jags

      Looks like you're a GW36 WCer like me.
      Biggest mistake is selling Kane IMO.
      Get Kos instead of Smalling.
      Bolasie is a good option for GW33. But I'd plan to take him straight back out for 34.

            We may go round in circles but I was one of the wc 36ers but rotation is a huge case. See andy's hot topics for previos seasons info. Any dropped player and you will be playing with 14 or 13.

        It'll be a punt in 35 whichever way to fund Kane. Okazaki/Alli/Long on my watchlist.

        Plus i get to keep Mahrez and Vardy for 33 which i think will be a real differential and Mahrez and Kane stay for 35.

    Morning DZers!!

    Been a little quiet the past few days. Been a heavy weekend! 🙂

    Just seen talk of an Elliott injury. Nightmare! Now proposing a more expensive keeper line-up.

    Mignolet - Adrian
    Sakho - Bellerin - Fuchs - Reid - Janmaat
    Firmino - Payet - Sanchez - Mahrez - Ozil
    Aguero - Kane - Deeney

    What do we think?

    This leaves me 1.8M to spend, but it's hard to do much more with Deeney (my big question mark).

          Oh. That's too bad. In that case guess can stick with Deeney then as he is on pens. Only other alternative that comes to mind is Mitrovic but tbh apart from Wijnaldum, never really considered other attacking players from Newcastle

      I like it Jossy. Perhaps a tad safe for my liking, considering you've kept 3 SGWers, but it's a safe bet, and it will have your team looking much better than my proposed team in 35. Not sure I'd double on WHU defence, though cleanies are possible. All in all though, solid.

          Sturridge is the classic FPL trap, lures you in with potential before getting injured in the warmup for the first game 😛 Could be great fun, but more likely to end in tears methinks. I'd keep as is I reckon.

          Mmm, that's tough. If I had to pick one myself that wasn't Janmaat (since he's over 4.5), I'd probably go for Lascelles. He's performed reasonably well these past few weeks whilst Colo has been injured, and I personally would rather he continues to start over Colo once Colo is back.
          The Lascelles - Mbemba partnership has looked solid, with few chances conceded in Rafa's first 2 games, and given the short space of time Rafa has to work with, I presume he would see the sense in keeping it going.

          That being said, I wouldn't go there unless I had to, it's asking for trouble and it's difficult to gauge what Rafa's take on Colo is considering he hasn't played under him yet.

      Well the hit (say for Courtois) will only cost you 2 points, since it's him or nothing, and considering Chelsea's chances of keeping a CS against Villa, I don't mind the hit actually. Not much in it though, as you're only bouncing between either -2 or + 2 on the hit, and the safest option is probably just to stick with the 0 from Butland.

    How does this team look for GW34 (NO hits).
    I'd have Robles and Lukaku for GW33.

    HART. (Robles)
    KOSCLELNY. BELLERIN. SAKHO. (Wollschein. Huth)
    FIRMINO. PAYET. OZIL. Mahrez (Alli)
    AGUERO. LUKAKU. Kane

    Morning gents,

    The Elliot injury is annoying, but I'm still edging towards delaying the WC till 36. Whatcha reckon?

    A)
    GW32: Eriksen -> Payet
    GW33: Vardy -> Lukaku
    GW34: Elliot, Kompany & Arnie -> Migs, Gabriel & Firmino (-4)
    GW35: Lukaku -> Vardy/Pelle

    Means 2 DGWers in 33, 9 plus Mahrez & Kane in 34 and a decent 11 in 35 for 1 hit. Obvious downside is no MUN defence.

    B)
    GW32: Elliot & Eriksen -> Ospina & Payet
    GW33: WC and load up

    Hennessey
    Bellerin, Simpson, Wolly
    Sanchez, Mahrez, Arnie, Eriksen
    Aguero, Kane, Vardy

    Elliot, Alli, JEvans, Kompany
    Bank 1.3m, 2FT

      A) Seems ok to me.

      I think Cech is due back, so careful with B.

      Payet would be on the 'must have' list for the DGW, so anything needs to have him imo (if not WC'ing)

      1. Jinswick
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

        Cheers. Yeah, will only get Ospina if Wenger rules Cech out. Otherwise Adrian and Courtois look the better options for 5.6 or below.

        DGWers wise it's likely to be

        A) 2 + 9 + 15

        vs

        B) 4/5 + 15 + 11

        So that's 4-5 extra DGWers in B and for one less hit. Which is tempting. Also, a couple of the 9 in A will be on the ropey DGWer side (e.g. JEvans & Gabriel) plus I'd be missing Ozil.

        You reckon you'd stick with A?

      I was going for Ivan or Sanchez, but then Butland broke himself and my plan.
      Looking at your team I'm not sure which one of them makes it more better.

    Afternoon lads. I know there's not a great deal of feedback that can be provided beyond what countless other people have already told countless other people, but as a best-case scenario plan, I still wouldn't mind some feedback on how the following rates?

    WC33:

    Robles | Darlow
    Bellerin | Smalling | Dann | Sakho | Gabriel
    Ozil | Firmino | Payet | Barkley | Bolasie
    Kun | Lukaku | Mitrovic

    3mil itb.

    GW34: Bolasie --> form Liverpool mid of choice (Coutinho, Lallana, Milner)
    GW35: Dann --> Azpilicueta
    GW36: save
    GW37: Kun -> Costa, Mitrovic -> most in-form Utd forward (could even afford Rooney, fighting to prove he's worth starting in the Euros)

    Would allow:
    --> 5 DGWers in 33
    --> 15 DGWers in 34
    --> 10 players in 35
    --> 11 DGWers in 37
    --> No planned hits (will take hits to deal with injuries, rotation e.g. Gabriel proves a non-viable starter)
    --> No Sunderland players, removing a conflict of interest as a Newcastle fan 😛

    Obviously the weakness of that team is that the GKs are poor, and I'm open to being burnt by Kane and Mahrez. Also, the proposed GW37 moves are just speculation obviously, it's too far out to be guessing as to the state of play at that point.

    But considering all of those factors, do you reckon I have above the basis for a decent plan?

      4 dgwers in 33? Not sure I'd want CPL players.

        Currently got 5 with Robles, Dann, Barkley, Bolasie and Lukaku in the above draft.

        You're probably right given their form, though Bolasie is most likely a 2-game (1 week) punt, and I'm looking at Dann more for his goals than his CS potential, with he too being removed straight after his doubles. Whilst I would prefer not to have him for 34, I don't think he's a bad option considering that he can be swapped straight out for a Chelsea defender (e.g. Azpi) who occupies a similar price bracket once his doubles are over.

        That being said, if I see a better alternative, I may well go there.

      Feel lot of risks being taken to ensure maximum coverage of DGW players on those GWs. Either it pays of very well or like you mentioned Kane & Mahrez might not be the only ones who will hurt u

      1. Geordienufc1
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

        It's true that the above is focused on maximising potential output in the DGWs, but I'm not sure I agree that it's with disregard to risk. I

        I see 4/5 of those defenders as nailed, with Gabriel more of a risk, though an affordable one with more upside than downside.

        All 5 of those mids look good for minutes (Firmino perhaps rotated given Pool's schedule, though most will have him anyway, so I'm not departing from the herd there) in 33, and I'm open to the most nailed-looking/most-in-form Pool mid as a replacement for Bolasie for 34.

        The 3 strikers are unquestionably nailed.

        As for the other element of risk - that being the players I don't have - I'd like to think I've covered most of the key DGW options. Firmino, Payet, Kun, Lukaku, Ozil, Bellerin, Smalling, Pool defence etc. are all likely to be well-owned, and thus I've minimised risk there.

        So really, I do think it is only Mahrez and Kane that can hurt me badly. And that, I agree, is a risk.

            I'm not WCing until next week, so all versions still have the potential for including Mahrez 😛

            My SV for Mahrez is 7.2 I believe, so Mahrez fits in as pretty much a straight swap for Barkley.

      Looks really good and well thought through.

      Your TV is really good also - I only have 0.3m in the bank with that squad.

      I think Sanchez is the other risk you haven't mentioned - CPL, WBA in the DGW and then sun - he could score huge there. I'd be tempted to switch Dann, Gabriel, Smalling and a mid -> Ward, Clyne, Rojo & Sanchez.

      Does that work?

      1. Geordienufc1
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

        Cheers mate - appreciate it 🙂

        Yep, that fits, I could substitute Sanchez in for any one of my 5 mids with those changes.

        You're right, Sanchez is a definite threat. I'm just not sure that all of those downgrades, often from nailed players at workable price points to less-nailed players, is worth that upgrade. Sure, if Sanchez explodes then he'd definitely be worth it, but is it worth risking Rojo rotation over Smalling, Ward over Dann (I'm really in it for the goals, and Dann has the distinctly superior goal threat) etc. for Sanchez? It could go either way. The other advantage of the slightly more expensive defenders like Dann is it gives more flexibility when it comes to future transfers (e.g. getting a Chelsea defender in for their double.

        Thanks alot for that though - certainly something to ponder!

    Elliot Butland
    Coleman Bellerin Toby Azpi Huth
    Arny Alli Lingard Mahrez Silva
    Lukaku Kane Aguero

    Already done Kompany > Bellerin and now unbelievably ended up with no GK so gunna have to take a -4 hit.

    With 5.3m my budget which GK should I go with?

      Adrian or Courtois for this week if you plan on WC in 33.

      But the best case scenario for a goalie hit is normally only +2, so I would consider whether the hit is worth it.

    Morning,

    Currently mulling over a GW33 WC, without it I'll only have 6 DGW players in 34 without taking any hits. My draft WC team is below, any thoughts? I'm worried about Rojo and Gabriel's assurity of playing time and the lack of Sanchez is also worrying. Subject to change as I'll only have 10 in 35.

    Adrian, Hennessey
    Bellerin, Dier, Rojo, Fuchs, Gabriel
    Ozil, Firmino, Payet, Mahrez, Lennon
    Aguero, Kane, Lukaku

    @Evs,Acqua,Jafa,Red Devil

    - I don't want to compromise on number of United players in 34.
    - I want to keep Mahrez and Vardy for 33 and Mahrez and Kane for 35.
    - I am banking on Mahrez(sun) beating Barkley's double in 33.
    - I honestly think Alexis at home against poor teams with Arsenal having nothing else to play for is clearly the best option for TC.
    - I don't believe in Everton and Palace defenders.
    - Teams in 37. I can pin-point on which teams will have something to play for in 37 and accordingly punt on the same.
    - I have my core DGWers already in my squad.

      DGW37 teams with something to play for will probably be Sunderland, Norwich and maybe Palace for the relegation struggle, and West Ham, United, City, Southampton and Liverpool for 4th and 5th. Maybe Spurs and Leicester still battling for the title. Arsenal firmly placed in 3rd. Sounds reasonable?
