An astonishing 2,216 fantasy football teams did battle last weekend, in an attempt to qualify for the first round proper of Fantasy Football Scout’s Paddy Power Cup V. With our four previous winners safely installed in next weeks opener, there were only 1,020 places up for grabs…

As expected, the standards were exceptionally high and an automatic qualification score of 62 was set. [Remember, this is after points spent on transfers are deducted.]

A total of 990 fantasy managers made that grade, meaning that the 108 managers stranded on 61 had to rely on their overall rank to fill the remaining 30 spots. The full list of results can be found right here.

Qualifying by the skin of his teeth is 45,465th in the world, woodpecker, who takes the 1,020th and final spot. In contrast, 45,750th in the world, don parcheesi, misses out by the narrowest of margins (a single transfer).

Commiserations to everyone who misses out – a list which includes all but five of the Scout Contributors.

The draw for Round One will be made shortly and will go live on the site at least 24-hours before the gameweek 13 deadline.

Considering doing Ramsey > Drenthe or Walters myself so i'd say yes.

Arsenal do have good fixtures but Ramsey doesn't return enough points.

Walters is a fair bit down the list for me though. i have a bit more cash then you to play around with, my top 3 are Bale, Drenthe, Walcott, Sess/Larsson then prob Walters!

It is scary how much I am agreeing with you. I think Bale will be FPL midfielder of the season when compared to price.

He is OOP but Ramsey has got better fixtures. Tough one. I would stick and save transfer.

Did this very transfer yesterday. Walters can get points even when his team is doing badly.

Santos a better shout than Verm up to the Jan wildcard? He's a pretty average defender, but very attacking and his stats are great. Would also mean I can get Jags instead of Hibbert next week. Thoughts?

I see you asked this a few times. Personally I would go Santos and Jags. Both have attcking potential, and Santos has better stats than Verm when neither get a goal/assist. Santos got a BP in the last game. Hibbert does nothing attack wise. Jags BP potetial as well.

Yeah, still undecided but am now swaying towards Dunne -> Santos this week and then either Woody -> Ward or Woody & Moses -> Jags & Ferguson (2 freebies) next week. Which of those 2 moves do you think are best next week?

Ward it is then! Will look to bring Jags in, perhaps for Brown in GW16, and then another EVE player (probably Drenthe) for their DGW. Cheers for the advice!

His defending is laughable (although if i was an Arsenal fan i'd bit a fair bit more angry than that) he is an absolute liability. Great going forward but fighting for the ball and defending?.....watching him makes Pascal Chimbonda look 'committed'

Lets agree to disagree. I thought he was excellent going forwards and defending tonight. Very strong in the tackle, and some neat tricks going forwards to retian posession. Gives us a calmness at the back.

He's not the best defender, but I wouldn't go that far. That said, being a good defender doesn't get you points in FPL - playing attacking football, getting assists and goals, does.

Oh no doubt, this wasn't aimed at his fantasy potential. He's very useful going forward and looks easily the best of the Arsenal defensive options at the moment for FPL

you could upgrade your bench maybe, Boyata is injured at the mo and you've got cash to spare. Apart from that I wouldn't do too much, maybe even swap Al-Habsi out if you're that desperate to scratch the transfer itch …

I took an 8-point hit, selling Ade to fund Dyer to Bale. Was a risk, and got 63-8. Would have scored 64 without the transfers, but more interested in long term strategy than making the cup tbh.

Since Chelsea visited Loftus Road they were 3 points off of the top of the League, top of their group in the Champions League & Villas Boas was the new Mourinho. Now they are 12 points off of the top, there hopes of qualifying for the last 16 are in the balance and AVB is under severe pressure!

I think all the AVB media criticism is harsh. He's taking over at a time of decline which is a result of short-term buying etc. The squad is ancient, and some players, namely Terry and Lampard should be moved on. Their legendary status, along with the lack of confidence in AVB means that won't happen though.

Big overhaul needed, Luiz was a good defender until he moved beside mega-slow Terry. Still has potential.

I've thought he's past it for the past two or three seasons to be honest. For some reason he hasn't been singled out to the same extent as Terry in the media recently, I guess it's because he's still been scoring goals despite the consistent non-existent performances.

Whenever he's been dropped/rested in the league this season, we've performed much better. Like in the second half at United, and in the home game against Swansea - probably our best performance of the season. AVB started so promisingly by no longer making Lampard a guaranteed starter, but in recent weeks he's been playing all the time.

he wasn't anywhere to be seen tonight to be fair. I hope AVB gets time, he does seem to have his work cut out though. i'm gutted coz i waded in on Chelsea for the league before they lost their last 3 games but i've got a covering bet on united, The only thing is that even they are looking pretty average just now. Strange days in the prem this year. Will be interesting to see how city handle the next few games.

United look so average at the minute, the City result has badly affected them I reckon.

City will have full concentration on the league after the Bayern Munich match and will win the league with a few points to spare in my opinion!

                I fear they might too.

I think Ferguson knows efficiency and mentality aren't gonna halt City, money needs to be spent. Centre-mid is a joke. Unfortunately the best options would be cup-tied if they came in January. I think, and have said for a while, Javi Martinez should be a prime target. Unfortunately I never seem to see him linked at a move away from Bilbao. He'll likely stay.

It's weird, I'd been between Jones, Richards and even Smalling all week. Yet now Santos and Verm are in with a shout. Currently on Santos for his cemented starting role and attacking potential. Have a funny feeling Jones will be rested this w/e....

Yeah, Richards is on fire, but crazy to bring him in with those fixtures imo. I think I'm still down to
                a) Dunne -> Santos
                b) Dunne -> P Jones
                c) Dunne & Woody -> Verm & Naylor (2 freebies so no hit)

If a) or b) then Woody either becomes Ward or Jags (if I do Moses -> Ferguson) next week. Also, I currently have no MUN, CHE or LIV coverage, which is a bit of a worry....

Okay, How about Dunne & Woody to Santos and say Brown? For me you need to get rid of both Dunne and Woody. Don't do Moses to Fergy as that will leave you with lessbench coverage. If not, I like Vermand Naylor, as both got good fixtures.

Don't worry about lack of MUN, CHE or LIV coverage. It won'y stop you scoring points.

I already have Brown.... Woody has to go, but doesn't have to be this week as Santos, Wilko & Brown will start. It's weeks 14,16 & 17 where I have defensive problems. Naylor has poor fixtures those weeks so I was thinking Ward/Hibbert for their great rotation and fixtures in gw14,16 & 17. Will probably get Ward due to Hibbert's zero attacking potential.

Yeah i know VDV is popular but i'm just being honest. If i was doing a WC now i doubt i'd have him (tough to be sure as i haven't actually tried), think i'd take the guaranteed 90mins from Bale every week and use the money elsewhere. I'm aware this may not be a popular strategy!

maybe, if he starts. Which judging on recent history is unlikely. If that's what you really think then go ahead it is your squad after all, but even Sturridge would be a better option if you're anticipating a Chelsea rout IMHO. He scored last week and by all accounts had a great performance tonight.

:D, well everyone like me who got him in, related to the comments regarding Ferdinand not being first choice anymore. Dont think I saw him praising Evans too much. He has not been injured, had a knock from training dough before the Benfica game, that is why he did not even make the bench. Could start next week, but long term he should be gotten rid of. Now that every defender on Man U is fit.

Sess is bullshit! I wouldnt want to rely on him ever. He's never gonna fetch any returns. For that money Sinclair is much better. But keep walters, he got form and good fixtures too.

Naah its Bentner. Dont know who to suggest. I would just keep Walters for now, until he actually stops scoring points.

Not sure on Pens. Apparently Bendy picked up the ball when they thought they had 1 but didn't so inconclusive!? Looking at Sess too. Very tempting!

    RMT please! 0.0 in Bank.

    Vorm
    Enrique | Richards | Simpson
    Silva | Bale | VDV | Ramsey
    Aguero | Adebayor | RVP

    Subs: Dyer, N.taylor & Teirney

I know having 3 Tottenham attacking players is a bit much but there getting me a good amount of points!

Defense is obviously a little weak, any chance you can afford Brown/Turner instead of Simpson?

I think you have to lose one of Bale, Adebayor or Aguero and improve defense a little..

    Saha
    Sturridge
    RVP

Between Nani, Saha and Sturridge, i personally don't like any of those 3 right now

Silva, Bale, Walcott, Walters, Sinclair, there are a lot of options out there.

This is what i am fearing the most, then again it was at home, no travelling, and he kicks off at half 5 on saturday, the latest of the day, plus arsenal are still somewhat a little leaky at the back, and wenger will surely want to play RVP against a sometimes an unpredictable fulham, and arsenal are at home, no travelling again, i think he'll have a good chance of playing imo.

Bloody hell!! 75! get in there lad! i got 64 in teh end, still, not bad, i've every chance of going 3 or maybe even 2nd this weekend, we said this would happen didnt we, haha, all patience and time, good things to those who wait. hats off to you topping your league, deserve it thoroughly.

I'm still capping RVP this gw 🙂

It's going great now mate, lifes getting a bit better, less work to do and stuff now. Was proper stressing out a week or so ago!

We did say we wold climb up the spots and get back to the top, 64 is fuking great mate, doing really well. My team has all changed just cause of captain RVP unreal... So happy i got him in, just need him to keep going!

You aint too far off top urself. ur 40 points or so behind me though haha 😉
Dont know what to do with my team this week...might be saving a transfer for once!! You doing anything major to ur team?

Haha me too, my team has completely changed into something im happy with now, just got to shift ferguson now, and face the dilemma of whether to keep torres as he 'might' play in the wolves game, bringing in ade for suarez this week though.

Haha we did say it, and it's happening, so glad! RVP is the guy that has made this happen though, i thank him so much lol, he will keep it going, without a doubt.

Haha 4o off you is good enough for me as your doing fairly well ya'self, saving a tranny isnt a bad idea, i will be doing in a few weeks, just still needs tampering with a little with forward line. May even bring in ade and chico in for torres and suarez, would of scored much more points if i'd got rid of those two!....you going for bale at all? 🙂
