Dugout Discussion – Man City vs Stoke

Manchester City’s home tie against Stoke City kicks off a Gameweek in which six teams are facing blank. In their pursuit of a Champions League berth, the Sky Blues can ill afford to drop further points following their draw against Newcastle United. As for the Potters, one win in six suggests that they’re lacking the motivation to finish the campaign strongly.

Despite mustering four fewer attempts (48) than Norwich City (52) across their previous four outings, Man City profited from the best shot-conversion rate (20.8%) of any team. In addition, only Newcastle United posted a superior shot accuracy (51.4% compared to 47.9%). Manuel Pellegrini’s men kept it tight at the other end of the pitch, conceding the joint-second-fewest goals (two) and shots inside the box (21), and just four big chances.

Considering they charted joint-second-bottom for shots inside the box (19) over their last four match-ups, Stoke did well to place sixth for big chances (eight). The Potters’ rearguard didn’t fare so well, however, shipping the most goals (11), fifth-most shots inside the box (35) and the third-most big chances (eight). Investors in Man City’s attack will also be heartened in the knowledge that only two teams have surrendered more big chances in road ties (36) than Mark Hughes’ men.

Options to replace Coutinho? Loads of strikers I want but really not seeing many midfielders that interest me.

So after GW 33, 34 and 35 do people think they'll do things differently with WC and DGW next year? Seems to me like you have to look across a few game weeks to really judge it.

    1. Hyperion
      • 12 Years
      8 years, 2 months ago

I will probably be less cavalier next time and keep a few SGW players who are doing well/offer value. Also will try to be more flexible with teh chips - I was too set on using bench boost GW34 which has left me risking my TC on a punt in GW37. But the way the fixtures fell this time along with teams in European fixtures was quite unique and might not be replicated next season so have to wait and see.

    2. Khal Drogba
      • 14 Years
      8 years, 2 months ago

Alot of the risk is due to how well prem teams are doing in CL and EL.

Next season if teams are knocked out early I'd take a similar approach to this season.

If teams with DGWs are still in Europe, I'd be alot more wary of rotation than I was this season!

    3. Bazzalona
      • 12 Years
      8 years, 2 months ago

because I used bench boost earlier than most (got 25 out of it so was happy enough) I didn't wildcard till last week.
to me that was preferable to doing it the week before, too many variables can happen in 7 days.
kept alli, kept kane, kept 2 Leicester dfs, got 148 pts.
I could have done better but at the same time the thought was nagging away at me everyone has gone for 11/15 dgw players and I didn't fancy that - too much is made of dgw imo

This week resisted: Martial + Lukaku + KDB > Kane + Sturridge + Alli

Really am a plum. Just felt Sturridge was more likely to be rested than KDB.
