Tuesday evening treats us to just a single head-to-head as West Ham host Man United in the final league fixture to take place at the Boleyn Ground. The outcome of this evening’s match could have significant repercussions in the race for European places, with the visitors requiring a win to leapfrog neighbours City in the race for fourth spot and Champions League football.

Delving into the attacking data, the numbers bode well for both teams tonight. In terms of overall attempts across their respective last four, both West Ham (70) and United (65) sit amongst the top five, with the Hammers bettering their visitors by 42 shots inside the box to 35. Indeed, Slaven Bilic’s side have produced more than double the number of big chances (13 to six) than the Red Devils, which bodes well for their chances of bouncing back from Saturday’s disastrous home defeat at the hands of Swansea.

Looking at the defensive numbers, though, United’s defence have conceded just 24 shots inside the box over the same time frame – only Newcastle (17) have managed less. Whilst the Red Devils’ recent resilience is summed up by just one goal against – compared to their hosts’ seven strikes conceded – it’s somewhat surprising to see that Bilic’s side have allowed the opposition only four more efforts (28) from close-range than their visitors ahead of tonight’s encounter.

Congratulations West Ham, so pleased that they won their final match at Upton Park.

Very disappointed with Carroll TC, but I still stand by the decision. He got 180 minutes, he could have scored several goals, but in the end it didn't go our way.

Just the scoreline I was hoping for, but just not enough involvement from Carroll!

I know!! Gutted. He could have had at least a couple tonight.

And if they'd have played like this at the weekend against Swansea, he could have had a hatful!!

        Oh well...

United is a team I love but:
No goals in the first half for the 28th time this season
    3 shots

    Not acceptable.

Fair play to the Hammers who played like it mattered.

We'll have to take some positives out of the season.

Our defence has been good and DDG has been the same brilliant keeper.

City only need a draw to confirm CL football.

A Swansea win and United win puts United 4th.

Yeah, if City loses to Swans and WHU can catch their 14 advantage in goal difference in one match at Stoke. Easy as pie.

      Players responsible as well.

Herrera, for as much of a fan I am, was shambolic. Smalling decided to have a nightmare tonight, Rojo is utter garbage etc.

Martial, once more, the only positive.

Not sure why I even want CL footie for United. Not like they'd be going any further than the group stages.

Well done Hammers, one team wanted to win tonight.

The really good ones are only interested in winning the CL, which won't happen for United for some time.

As for money, well their revenue stream is absolutely ridiculous, so it's not a massive deal for them.

I don't share those thoughts at all but I get your point. United were eliminated by an extremely disappointing Wolfsburg side in this seasons CL campaign. A Wolfsburg side that went from runners-up last year to bottom half this year, and the worst away record in the Bundesliga this season.

      1. Somalion
        • 16 Years

Yep. I of course wouldn't refuse CL if offered it, but I'm not sure it matters that much to United. Only chance of them attracting really big established players is if they can win it, or get to the final, which they can't at the moment.

personally speaking I have no interest in European football, anyone who knows me would vouch for that.
you don't get a trophy for fourth place (no arsene sorry you don't) and you're talking six games at the end of the day......not for me, never has been.
but west ham got what they deserved.
