In case you missed our earlier announcement, Fantasy Football Scout have partnered with DraftKings for the duration of the Euro 2016 tournament.

DraftKings are a daily fantasy sports giant in the US, and are now bringing games to a UK audience.

We will be producing daily articles to help steer squad selection for DraftKings’ contests over the course of the tournament.

What’s more, the game has recently improved with some subtle tweaks to the rules ahead of Euro 2016, making it even more accessible to new players.

DraftKings now allows you to build a squad of eight players, made up of a goalkeeper, two defenders, two midfielders, two forwards and a single utility player, who can be any outfield position.

You have a budget of $50k to spend on your picks and there’s no limit to how many squads you can assemble and enter across the variety of DraftKings contests on offer.

The scoring is based on the Opta data we know and love and considers a variety of on-pitch actions, including tackles won, interceptions and crosses, in addition to the traditional scoring methods of goals, assists and clean sheets.

As well as tweaking the squad setup, DraftKings have also made some subtle but effective changes to their scoring for Euro 2016.

Crosses have now been reduced from a full point to 0.75 points per cross – a smart move given that crossing was previously a dominant mechanic in DraftKings selection and scoring.

Elsewhere, yellow cards now penalise your squad by -1.5 points, with -3 points should a player be awarded two yellow cards in a match.

Here’s a summary of the new DraftKings scoring matrix:

  • Goal = +10 PTs
  • Assist = +6 PTs
  • Shot = +1 PTs
  • Shot on Goal = +1 PTs
  • Crosses = +0.75 PTs (via corner kick, open play, and set pieces)
  • Fouls Drawn = +1 PTs
  • Fouls Conceded = -0.5 PTs
  • Tackle Won = +1 PTs
  • Pass Intercepted (D,M,F) = +0.5 PTs
  • Yellow Card = -1.5 PTs
  • Red Card = -3 PTs
  • Penalty Kick Miss = -5 PTs
  • Saves (GK) = +2 PTs
  • Goal Conceded (GK) = -2 PTs
  • Clean Sheet (GK) = +5 PTs
  • Clean Sheet (D) = +3 PTs
  • Win (GK) = +5 PTs
  • Penalty Kick Save (GK) = +3 PTs

Our forthcoming articles will help you decipher the scoring and provide tips on player selection – look out for those on every Euro 2016 Matchday. We will also be producing an in-depth strategy guide, profiling the types of players to consider, early next week.

In addition, we’re delighted to say that we’ve been able to secure Opta data from the Euro 2016 qualifiers, more than 12-months of international friendlies and for the tournament proper which wil help give Fantasy Football Scout members an extra edge in DraftKings contests. That’s work in progress so look out for an announcement on this later today.

In the meantime, the first DraftKings Euro 2016 contests are now live including the $10,000 kick-off, allowing you to pick your eight-man squads for the Matchday 2 fixtures on June 11, which includes the start of England’s campaign as the Three Lions prepare to take on Russia.

We will be bringing you our guide to selections for these matches 24 hours before the kick-off.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

This isn't really anything new. FFS will generally partner with a new game for summer tournaments. Previously they've used FiT for the WC and Fantasy League for Euro 12.

What's the opinion on Giaccherini? Seems a favourite of Conte and with Marchisio, Verratti and Montolivo all injured looks set to start as a CM. Classed as a 5.0m defender and is also playing OOP. Thoughts?

I don't really know what he's like to be honest - barely seen him play.

      Always seemed quite sought after.

Funnily enough I thought he'd signed a week or two ago so was surprised to hear it confirmed this morning!

It's bad when I'm delighted he's leaving Dortmund, even if for City. He's a great player, no question imo, but the injuries are becoming too bothersome. Had hoped this season will be improved but it wasn't. Another point is his constant on/off decisions about leaving Dortmund the last few seasons became tiresome.

Good deal for City if they get him consistently fit and good deal for Dortmund because they're well used to coping without him.

Don't see that as a problem with nailed players. You could also say that if you don't have someone like Junuzovic to come in on the last day then you can't sub out players who play on the second to last gameday.

          1. Christina.
            • 15 Years
            9 years, 6 months ago

Correct, I just prefer having Cr7 coming in on the last day instead of Junuzovic.

The one is (c) material, the other ain't.

                9 years, 6 months ago

More? You still get the same amount...one per match day..

You don't have to Cr7(c) in last matchday. Just play him.

                😉

It can go both ways with Ronaldo. Either everyone fails and he saves your gameweek or you don't even end up really needing him.

Correct. Safety net. Even if my earlier captains get locked in earlier in the matchday, I would want to play him vs the likes of Iceland, Hungary & co.

        But CHAMP has provided stats

14 goals 11 assists for Steaua Bucharest. Earned first cap 2 months ago. Has since scored 3 in 4 and earned motm in all 3 starts. Including vs Spain.

Last time I did a McDonalds game (World Cup '14) players were getting crazy points for ball recoveries and blocked shots. I remember van Buyten and Bentaleb regularly outscoring my expensive attackers. Have they got rid of these bonus points? I can't see anything in the rules about it.

Hmm I quite like Bonucci. Feel like an Italian defender is worth it.

Giaccherrini being nailed would be amazing.

        Patricio lessens Pepe's appeal slightly..

Schar has Sommer as his equivalent, but he offers more attacking potential.

Bonucci is the cheapest nailed Italian defender.

Between the three of those anyway.. I'm starting to get nervous about Juanfran..

Doesn't mean Pepe isnt the best 5.5 option even if Patrico is there.

I would suggest a double up looks wise!

I would definely have taken Drinkwater

I would also have taken Wilshere but not Henderson or Sturridge. One crock in the squad is enough.

I have Mak but I'm pretty sure Junuzovic is a better choice. Plays CAM for a much better team. I also have Alaba and Janko so Junuzovic will be a bit of an Austrian overload for me.

Hoping Ali plays behind Kane, or atleast alongside Dier in midfield.

I think Walker and Clyne are 50/50

I'm 90% on Dier holding midfield

      90% Alli in midfield

Had a discussion the other day about Portugal's prospects. Mate believes that they can go all the way to the final but I just can't see it. I hear lots of good things about their young players, but with Ronaldo not having 100% fitness of late and also sometimes going missing in bigger tournaments I can see them struggling.

I think Austria will definitely leave the group, with Iceland vs Portugal for the other spot.

Even if they prove me wrong and leave the group as top dogs, they'll likely be facing the runner-up of Belgium or Italy.

    Am I being foolish?

if they can't get out of that group than they shouldn't even be at the Euro's.

      Winning it...nah.

Portugal will probably play Italy or Belgium in the Quarter final but could make it to the semi's where I'd expect they'd get knocked out.

Agree. Austria are real underdogs in this tournament.

Play it safe with Matuidi? Or take the risk on Payet?

I really hope it doesn't happen. Him and Southampton are doing brilliantly.

Strongly considering taking that approach but France have depth in wide areas if he fails to have an impact from open play i.e. Martial & Coman.
