Sunday affords DraftKings managers a trio of Euro 2016 fixtures to construct their squads around as Groups C and D get up and running.

Our next set of player recommendations assess what’s on offer tomorrow as in-form pair Turkey and Croatia square up in the early two o’clock slot before Poland take on Northern Ireland and Germany go head-to-head with Ukraine later in the evening.

Croatia and Turkey both boast fine recent records. The pair have tasted defeat just once in their last 13 and 16 fixtures respectively and Croatia warmed up for their opener with a 10-0 trouncing of San Marino in midweek.

World Champions Germany fired more shots and attempts on target than any side on the road to Euro 2016, whilst Poland arrive as the top scoring team in qualifying.

We’ve assembled our player tips for Sunday’s DraftKings contests below, focusing on a mix of big-money names that are likely to be key figures, along with a sprinkle of value alternatives that may just prove equally vital to our eight-man line-ups.

Matchday 3 Player Picks

Darijo Srna, Croatia – $6100
The Croatia captain’s raids down the flank look vital to his side’s prospects against Turkey. Srna sat third top for crosses amongst defenders in qualifying and has maintained that form in the last four friendlies by earning a trio of assists. Turkey are clearly susceptible to aerial balls – they conceded 22 headed attempts over the group stages, the fourth-worst defensive record – and with target man Mario Mandzukic back in top form, Srna’s supply line could prove decisive.

Jakub Wawrzyniak, Poland – $4100
With three clean sheets in their final four friendlies, Poland’s defence looks worthy of consideration against a Northern Ireland outfit that has scored more than a single goal in just one of their last seven. An injury to first-choice left-back Maciej Rybus has allowed Jakub Wawrzyniak to start two of the final three friendlies. Priced at a kind $X, he produced a cross every 30.4 minutes in qualifying, quicker than the pricier Lukasz Piszczek on the opposite side of the back-four for Adam Nawalka’s side.

Toni Kroos, Germany – $6700
An all-action option in the centre of the park, Kroos was ranked amongst the top five midfielders for both attempts on goal and chances created in the qualifiers. Having averaged 73% possession on the road to France, Germany are likely to dominate proceedings against Ukraine, with Kroos’ ball-winning abilities key to breaking up their opponents’ rapid counter attacks. Number one for corner kicks, the Real Madrid man offers a secure pick at a time where Joachim Lowe is mulling over the make-up of his attack.

Yevhen Konoplyanka, Ukraine – $7100
The Ukraine wide man approaches the tournament in fine fettle after bagging two goals and a pair of assists in his last four outings. Konoplyanka’s pace and trickery on the break will be a vital weapon against Germany if Mikhail Fomenko’s side are to upset the world champions – he won more fouls than any player over the qualifiers. As his nation’s chief creator from open play and dead ball situations, Konoplyanka will be tasked with unlocking a backline that’s managed just a single clean sheet in their last nine matches.

Robert Lewandowski, Poland – $11,200
Given that Thomas Muller could be utilised on Germany’s right flank against Ukraine, we’re turning to Poland’s talisman as our premium DraftKings forward for Sunday’s matches. Top scorer in qualifying with 13 strikes, Lewandowski also supplied a trio of assists and played a part in 51% of his side’s goals. Opponents Northern Ireland can be expected to sit deep and soak up the pressure but considering they mustered a mere three clean sheets on the road to France, the Bayern Munich frontman should be afforded plenty of opportunities to get off the mark.

DraftKings contests for Sunday’s matches are now available, including a $3 entry “Striker” with a $5k prize pot.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here.

change Giroud's captain to Muller and change Koscielny to Hector,Grosicki to Juanfran???
Grosicki is doubtful,if you make a change, then there will be no auto change,so can't make a risk on Grosicki

Only an auto change if onfield players don't play. If subs don't play then he won't be put into your side. Correct?

No. If you've made any changes - subs or captain change - then autochange doesn't activate, regardless.

Yes. Given the effort required in registering, activating an account, choosing a team and joining leagues, it is absolutely beyond me that these people don't read the rules of the game they are playing. It seems like a huge waste of time for them.

The site can be bizarre in that sense at times. I've been posting on here for 4 years now yet there are times I feel like a newbie. But I get the fact that's partially down to the crowd or tone of the format the time, eg I don't post usually on gw deadliness it's usually manic with a lot of names I don't recognise and to a certain degree, don't know how educated the opinions are

Griezmann is being badly misused in this France setup. I think they'll pay for not adapting tactics in benzemas absence

I'm not so sure, plenty of chances last night and seemed very threatening. Main issue (and only my opinion) is they have 2 "floating" players in grease and Payet.

Allowing them both to roam would massively expose them at the back. And Payet seems to be the main source of creativity at present. Plus a better team could have punished France at times.

Maybe I'm over analysing but I'm not confident about their progression during the knock out rounds

      1. Get up ya bum
        • 16 Years

The thing is their tactics don't allow for any floating or roaming players at all. It is meant to be rigid with players staying in their designated zones. The three forwards don't stray far from each other and dont go searching for the ball. Benzema, martial/gignac, and griezmann can do it effectively. I think once you replace benzema with giroud and put payet in the tactic falls apart. They should play to griezmann and payets strengths. Which would probably mean benching giroud

          Yeah I see your point

To be fair though Deschamps seemed to give Payet more license to roam in the second half.

The issue is the type of players that France have at their disposal I'd say. The likes of grease, Payet and co can potentially (and I use that term heavily!) feed off of giroud knocking the ball down and holding it up etc.

Because of the types of player in those two I'd argue giroud is pretty essential to the make up. He's no Benzema don't get me wrong but he does do the job that's required from him, barring the sitters he missed last night! 😀

Malcolm McDonald posted an interesting article in the Northern Chronicle today highlighting how England are missing a Hurst or Shearer type of player. Not just someone be who hold the ball up but who retains possession, has a good first touch and is able to bring others in to play. I think the same could actually be applied to the majority if not all of Europes top teams.

Yeah he's reluctantly giving payet freedom. Not Greizman though.
Griezmann thrives alongside a dynamic striker like benzema or Torres. Giroud is very good at what he does, but he is the antithesis of dynamic attack. Sure he can supply chances that griezmann can finish, but his presence in the central attacking zone basically stops griezmann doing what he does best.
For me if you want to play to your best players strengths you would partner griezmann and martial. When griezmann is central martial goes wide left. When martial is central griezmann wide right. Payet in a free role between the 3 mids and the two strikers. So when midfield gets the ball payet and one of the strikers move into space, spread the defence, open gaps and exploit them with pace.
If they play giroud I think they'd be best with coman wide right stretching the defence, payet wide left, griezmann as a second striker, and drop matuidi from midfield

                😀

i maybe over analysing, but I just think if you're going to play a team with a lot of fast and creative players who make those runs etc, you need an "Olivier"

This entire exchange is about over analysing 😛
I enjoy tactical discussions. I played for a decade and now coach kids.

Frances tactics are tailor made for fast technical, creative forwards and a distance lack of creative flair players in midfield.
Now they have a playmaker and physical hold up striker but are still trying to play the same static system. That's my main point. That's why griezmann is a passenger and the midfield ineffective

That's a really interesting point you raise, and I see where you're coming from. It almost lets the imagination run wild with what's possible in that scenario! I'd never looked at it in that way.

So what do you think Deschamps reason is for persisting with giroud in this make up? Stuck in his ways or afraid to take the gamble?

I put it down to stubbornness. Some mangers adapt their tactics to their players like fergi. Others expect the players to adapt to their tactics like mourinho. Unlike mourinho though Deschamps can't buy players 🙂

To be fair for all we know he may have tried to work it in training but for whatever reason it didn't click.

One thing I've come to learn over the years with my old man being a former coach is that sometimes you have to accept that plan B in your ideal tactical setup has to become your plan A. Be that because players can't get to grips with the setup OR the manager doesn't feel (for what ever reason) comfortable with rolling it out

Interesting, my biggest mistake the last 2 seasons has been a cross of ego and not following the band wagons.

      14/15- Toure, Ramsey
      15/16- Ozil, Toby

I think I let pride get in the way of my decisions, VERY wrongly thinking these players are flashes in the pan and I'll get ahead of the crowd by going for alternatives.

I've now had back to back seasons where this has severely backfired on me.

I think back to when I finished around 6k. That was a season where I tried to be clever and to a certain degre it paid off. But at the same point I followed the bandwagon with some transfers ie, Suarez and Sturridge.

Going forward is it about finding a happy balance between the bandwagons and your own judgement?

Might sound a silly question but I want to play my own game, but not be wreck less with it!

I think that's where the fpl skill comes in, spotting a (for want of a better term) useless bandwagon or a genuine source of points.

This is something I'm still trying to refine

You have pretty much summed up the way it should be played imo.
Don't let Ego be a factor , follow some bandwagons, and get on quick.
Use your own judgement too , to get the "hidden pearls"
And hope that you get the balance right.

I never owned Toby all season but I had a 'decent' (3 digit rank) finish Pap, but I get your point

Ha! I like that you put decent in inverted commas. That's gotta be a great rank by anyone's standards. I think what's done you so well is that Toby seems to be the _only_ big scorer you missed out on.

            Haha!
In my opinion you can get away with not owning consistent/highly owned players but you got to have those in those positions working their ass off to break even, it helps too when you have rotating cheap defenders that go on a run around the same period, I found most weeks when Toby did well that I had someone else popping up.
I recall Mark pushing a similar argument with Aguero and he was right to a point, it's a fine line between not owing a 'proven' Fpl asset, picking up points from your alternative and being foolish.

Don't treble up on anyone is my only gameweek 1 rule that I look to stick to. If you like a team get two of them and if they hit the ground running get the form guy as your third with one easy FT. If you treble up and they do a Chelsea its a right ball ache ditching all 3 while looking after your squad's problems elsewhere.

That's actually something I've always tried to do Balders.

My issue looking back, is not getting that form guy when everyone else has.

Hopefully next season will be different.

I've actually picked my uefa team away from the site so as not to be swayed in my decisions. It's just an experiment to see what happens if my choices aren't swayed by others.

I mean that in the best way of course! 😀

True, in hindsight I've already noticed I didn't pick any Swiss defenders.

Schar was in my original draft as well! 😀

Sometimes though it does feel like people are chastising you for not going with the grain.

For arguments sake, and I'm going back 2 seasons here, I suggested downing as a good sub 7m mid before he went on his run and got torn apart for it. As a result, I didn't get him and then watched him go on his run of returns.

I'm just as guilty as those who said it was a crazy move. However, it highlights how sometimes the forum can work against you!

Haha I remember that one as I one who made the plunge when the fixtures turned and I went straight from Siggy haul to a Downing haul. You've just got to have thick skin on here. Every man and his dog thinks his player is the best and wants his voice heard and I love this place for it and I know I'm just as guilty of causing a stir around certain players (Ramsey this December for one) but at the end of the day we're all responsible for our own decision. Back yourself until you get compelling evidence to change your mind. If everyone's just saying A over B but not justifying it try and ignore the wish-wash herding.

I will admit I'm nowhere as seasoned as you guys it I've found myself looking at some of his choices wondering what on earth he's playing at!

However, last season he seemed to call it right more often than not.

.The only thing I didn't agree with (but I respect his decision) was his choice not to pick players out of principle

Another thing ive learned is your initial squad is a lottery. With no form to gauge the luck factor goes through the roof. It is subjective. Every passing gameweek becomes more objective

Yep, 2 seasons running I did the opposite tact. 14/15 I went punty and it backfired. 15/16 I went safe and the punty option would have fared so much better. That's just one of those things!

I think this season I'll go a mix of the two and take a 24 point hit if it goes to the wall! 😀

I think GW1 as you say there is no form so all you can go off of is fixtures and try to hit nailed players. Sometimes there is a stand out option from friendlies if they are cheap and have decent fixtures pick them too

I'm personally shocked that sterling started given his form and lack of club playing time.

Personally I think he's a very limited player. Cardy would offer more on the left plush assume increase in goal threat. It's a no brainer

Wrong. A lot of us have 2 or even 3 Swiss defenders and we don't want them against France. Then someone like Ronaldo plays Hungary week 3 and I would like some of that too.

Probably been discussed here already, but the format of this game is new to me.. Not a big fan of the fact that we can see captain changes of rivals. Will other things also be visible, like substitutions and transfers? Maybe wait till last minute in that case. Cheers

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Game Day 3 Captaincy Stick or Twist

For those playing the Official UEFA game are you sticking or twisting with your captaincy?

Do you have Mulller or Lewandowski to fall back on? Who is hoping Ronaldo will save them?

Another partial captaincy success for me with Rodriguez, following Giroud....but the armband moves again with Muller taking on the chance to get a better score.

I've hopped from Rodriguez (6) to Muller. I was going to go for Gotze but I've chickened out from that as it could easily be Gomez who starts up top.

If Muller blanks I'll have KdB on Monday then Junuzovic when things get desperate on Tuesdays.
