The results from the first round of the Paddy Power Cup V are in, and all 512 head to heads can be viewed by clicking here. Although you undoubtedly know your own fate already, let’s have a look at how some of the other ties panned out…

Of our four previous competition winners, three progressed, with inaugural winner donnellyc crashing out in spectacular fashion 54 – 38 to kiwiphil.

Mark overcame graqfreak 57 – 48 to put himself into the next round, alongside fellow Scout greek fan. Anorak and myself gracefully bowed out, leaving just the two to fly the flag.

The top-scorer this week was Gullikgul, who annihilated Boss Hogg 85 – 38. Captain Emmanuel Adebayor and Juan Mata alone would’ve seen Gullikgul win with room to spare.

There were sixteen match-ups which ended all square, which meant overall rank had to be used to find a winner (denoted with an asterisk on the results page).

It’s impossible at this stage of the competition to find a potential winner, but there are certainly some names to avoid. The top-ranked challenger going into round two is 52nd in the world bobbyg. The only other top 100 fantasy manager in the hat is Sir Boulos (77th).

For those fortunate enough to progress this week, check back on Thursday for the second round draw. For everyone else, commiserations and thanks for participating.

Alex handled a Bellamy cross and gets a yellow, he loves to concede pens in the League Cup, and Turnbull loves to save them. 😀 Not 100% sure it was deliberate though, but Luiz pushed Carroll in the box earlier so they even themselves out.

if you were 100 points behind mini league leader would you get Bale/or a.n.other in for VDV this week. Just worried if VDV doesnt play i'll go even further behind.

Do what you think is best for your team in general and with a view to the coming weeks. Way too early to be chasing pts to make up ground. Slowly but surely is the way to go and plenty of time to do it.

Keep VDV - differential at 14%.
Bale is the 3rd highest owned midfield at around 27% - I think. (Behind Silva and Nani).

Squad game - have a good 1st sub, wouldn't get rid of VDV - would want back for more in a couple of weeks.

Just try to keep pace or chip away at lead slowly. Could easily result in you being 125pts behind next week, instead of 90pts for example.
