Henrikh Mkhitaryan bags his first goal for United in a 4-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain earns Arsenal a draw in Lens, Victor Janssen and Michy Batshuayi open their accounts for Spurs and Chelsea and Salomon Rondon nets as the Baggies see off Vitesse.

Borussia Dortmund 4 Man United 1

Henrikh Mkhitaryan netted his first goal for United as Jose Mourinho’s side were well beaten by Dortmund in Shanghai.

After featuring as a number 10 against Wigan on his debut, the Armenian international started on the left before swapping flanks with Adnan Januzaj later in the first half. Juan Mata – who was afforded the central support role behind Memphis Depay, then Marcus Rashford after the break – supplied the assist for Mkhitaryan’s consolation.

Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia were fielded as full-backs and the latter continued to build up his fitness by playing the full 90 minutes along with new boy Eric Bailly. Mainly utilised as a centre-half by Louis van Gaal, Daley Blind partnered Ander Herrera in central midfield, allowing Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo to be handed 45 minutes each alongside Bailly in the heart of the back-four.

With a number of his first-team still yet to participate in the summer action, Mourinho was unconcerned over the result:

“At the moment, I’m not even creating a team. So many players are not here. We’re creating individuals’ form and trying to bring these players to a good condition. For the new signings and all of the players, they had a chance to play 45, 70 or 90 minutes. It’s very, very important and I can imagine it will take a long time to recover from this effort in the game. In this weather, in reality, at this stage of pre-season for them individually it’s good.”

Man United XI: Johnstone (Romero 46), Valencia (Pereira 75), Bailly, Jones (Rojo 46), Shaw, Blind (McNair 66), Herrera, Mata, Mkhitaryan (Januzaj 66), Lingard (Young 46), Depay (Rashford 46).

Lens 1 Arsenal 1

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain netted the Gunners’ equaliser in a 1-1 stalemate in Lens last night.

In his first appearance for five months, the fit-again midfielder chipped in after being teed up by fellow substitute Serge Gnabry with just nine minutes remaining.

With many of his regulars still yet to return to training due to the recent Euro 2016 tournament, Arsene Wenger’s side contained just one of last season’s guaranteed starters, left-back Nacho Monreal.

The likes of Per Mertesacker, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny, Theo Walcott and Alex Iwobi (who was handed the central support role) were also named in the XI, with Walcott seeing a goal ruled out for offside.

Given that this was their first match of the summer, it was no surprise to see Wenger make numerous changes over the course of the second period, with only Mertesacker, Coquelin and Callum Chambers afforded the full 90 minutes to step up their fitness.

Arsenal XI: Martinez (Macey 46); Debuchy (Bielik 46), Mertesacker, Chambers, Monreal (Gibbs 46); Elneny (Campbell 46), Coquelin; Walcott (Zelalem 77), Iwobi (Willock 77), Reine-Adelaide (Oxlade-Chamberlain 46), Akpom (Gnabry 46).

Vitesse 1 West Brom 2

Salomon Rondon and Callum McManaman grabbed a goal apiece as the Baggies registered a second successive victory on Thursday evening.

Tony Pulis handed Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley their first taste of action after the duo returned to the fold a little later than usual due to their exertions for Northern Ireland in Euro 2016. The pair were afforded just over 45 minutes apiece in a match that saw the Baggies boss make ten second-half changes, with only Craig Dawson playing from start to finish.

Jonathan Leko recovered from the knock that saw him miss the previous friendly against Kidderminster Harriers to take up the left flank berth in a 4-2-3-1, with new boy Matt Phillips again starting on the opposite wing. The youngster terrorised the Vitesse defence and drew a foul that led to Rondon’s opener courtesy of a 25-yard free-kick.

McManaman also staked a claim for minutes out wide, though – emerging from the bench as a replacement for Leko early in the second period, he produced an eye-catching winner as Pulis’ side scored twice for the second match running.

West Brom XI: Foster (Myhill 45); Dawson, McAuley (Fitzwater 48), Olsson (Wilson 48), Evans (McClean 48); Fletcher (Field 48), Yacob (Gardner 48); Phillips (Roberts 48), Morrison (Berahino 48), Leko (McManaman 48); Rondon (Lambert 48).

Atus Ferlach 0 Chelsea 8

Loic Remy bagged a hat-trick, whilst new boy Michy Batshuayi and Pedro both netted twice in a behind-closed doors friendly against local Austrian outfit Atus Ferlach on Thursday.

Antonio Conte once again lined his side up in a 4-2-4 formation, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek utilised as a central striker – the youngster bagged a couple of assists, whilst Juan Cuadrado also earned an assist in an impressive second-half showing on the flank. John Obi Mikel was also in the goals thanks to a deflected effort.

Conte made six changes at the break as he afforded a number of players who joined up with the squad this week – including Pedro, Batshuayi and Cesc Fabregas – crucial pitch time.

Chelsea first half XI: Blackman, Azpilicueta, Miazga, Hector, Baba Rahman, Kenedy, Mikel, Chalobah, Atsu, Loftus-Cheek, Remy.

Chelsea second half XI: Blackman, Cuevas, Cahill, Miazga (Chalobah), Baba, Cuadrado, Fabregas, Mikel, Pedro, Loftus-Cheek (Remy), Batshuayi.

Tottenham 3 Rotherham 1

Vincent Janssen grabbed his first goal for Spurs in a behind-closed-doors friendly win over Rotherham on Thursday afternoon.

Tottenham’s summer signing was supplied by right-back Kieran Trippier to level matters after his side went behind before youngsters Shayon Harrison and Marcus Edwards (who also supplied an assist) found the net to secure a 3-1 win.

Although the club’s official website didn’t list a full starting XI, they did reveal that first-team squad players such as Victor Wanyama, Nacer Chadli, Heung-min Son and Ryan Mason were all handed a run-out as Spurs prepare to fly to Australia to face Juventus and Atletico Madrid next week.

I think the people who have him remember his good form for a decent chunk of last year, whereas the ones who won't go near him this year probably blew their triple captaincy chip on him in one of last seasons DGWs 😆

There's no context here. Mkhitaryan was in the last year of his contract and Dortmund wanted Gotze back. Wijnaldum still had 4 on his and Newcastle were in no position to sell.

Never tried 3-5-2 before but seeing as ill be an early Wildcarder how does this look:

    Foster
    Shaw Schlupp Baines
    KDB/Hazard Tadic Siggy Miralles Bolasie
    Aguero Zlatan

    (Jaku Kone Wasilewski Campbell)

Obviously Miralles is to be assessed in pre-season but Everton's fixtures are incredible! It was between Bolasie and Bojan for a £6m 5th mid and they seem to pose better value for money than the strikers for £6.5m

Ive been pretty set on playing 4-3-3 with KDB Mahrez Siggy and Austin (again one to moniter).

Its a toss up between having Mahrez or a balanced midfield, and if he goes to Arsenal then the latter seems best

If you're going for any Palace mids it should be Townsend. I'd say the 5.5 mids are better value than Mirallas. Feghouli, Fischer and Gradel are very good.

Fischer allows me Townsend with £0.5m to spare. His fixtures are great but from what ive heard Middlesborough arent a very attacking side? I do agree that the £5.5ms offer a lot of value and picking the right one prior to GW1 seems like luck.

Got to love Miralles if he's nailed though, a very selfish player that shoots alot

Fair play to Origi, certainly made the most of his opportunity and gets slept on -- at least when compared to the amount of hype the young strikers at Manchester [Iheanacho, Rashford, Martial] get but going into a season with just that trio [Sturridge, Ings, Origi] feels light. Dunno, I could very well be wrong.

Do we think zlatan will feature in the majority of utds games this season? I've currently got him in my team but 11.5 or whatever it is seriously puts a dent on funds going elsewhere. If he is a sure starter for the majority, I can't not bring him in.

I'd imagine so if he's number 9. He did score 38 league goals last season.

Arsène Wenger says Alexis will not go on tour to California so he can rest the ankle injury he sustained in the Copa America final.
“Alexis will not go either because he had an ankle injury. That is not too bad but I will leave him behind as well.”

Karanka is very good at organising his defence so Boro have had one of the best defensive records in England the past few seasons. Side it set up to counter attack plus he loves to bomb down the wing.

Quite pleased with this so far. Appreciate the defense is cheap but I prefer to wait until we see some form and TV is better before pulling in more expensive options. Plan is for 3-5-2 and rotate Carroll and Wilson.

    Foster Butland

    Simpson Evans Ake Souare Pieters

    Fab Martial Ayew Mahrez Tadic

    Aguero Carroll/Wilson

Arsene Wenger: “The players who won’t make it are the players who went very far in the European Championship, such as Ramsey, Ozil, Giroud and Koscielny. I left Gabriel behind today because he has tonsillitis and is infected. He cannot travel. Alexis will not go either because he had an ankle injury. That is not too bad but I will leave him behind as well.”

Everyday I check season history of those manager who send me their applications for article about Veterans. There are so many good managers around, they are just hiding. Some of them are not even in the HoF. They are quite I guess, they just read an articles on FFS and play soooo goood!

The players were too old and/or lazy. Didn't work hard enough for Felix Magath, who was a bit of a madman. Berbatov was their best player but left in January 2014. Darren Bent couldn't replace his goals.

      Scoring
During the season, your fantasy football players will be allocated points based on their performance in the Premier League.

      Action Points
For playing up to 60 minutes 1
For playing 60 minutes or more 2
For each goal scored by a goalkeeper or defender 6
For each goal scored by a midfielder 5
For each goal scored by a forward 4
      For each goal assist 3
For a clean sheet by a goalkeeper or defender 4
For a clean sheet by a midfielder 1
For every 3 shot saves by a goalkeeper 1
      For each penalty save 5
      For each penalty miss -2
Bonus points for the best players in a match 1-3
For every 2 goals conceded by a goalkeeper or defender -1
      For each yellow card -1
      For each red card -3
      For each own goal -2
      Clean sheets

A clean sheet is awarded for not conceding a goal whilst on the pitch and playing at least 60 minutes.

If a player has been substituted when a goal is conceded this will not affect any clean sheet bonus.

      Red Cards

If a player receives a red card, they will continue to be penalised for goals conceded by their team.

Red card deductions include any points deducted for yellow cards

      Assists

Assists are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team, who makes the final pass before a goal is scored. An assist is awarded whether the pass was intentional (that it actually creates the chance) or unintentional (that the player had to dribble the ball or an inadvertent touch or shot created the chance).

If an opposing player touches the ball after the final pass before a goal is scored, significantly altering the intended destination of the ball, then no assist is awarded.

      Rebounds
If a shot on goal is blocked by an opposition player, is saved by a goalkeeper or hits the woodwork, and a goal is scored from the rebound, then an assist is awarded.

      Own Goals
If a player shoots or passes the ball and forces an opposing player to put the ball in his own net, then an assist is awarded.

      Penalties and Free-Kicks
In the event of a penalty or free-kick, the player earning the penalty or free-kick is awarded an assist if a goal is directly scored, but not if he takes it himself, in which case no assist is given.

      Finalising Assists
Assist points awarded by Opta within Fantasy Premier League are calculated using additional stats which may differ from other websites. For example, some other sites would not show an assist where a player has won a penalty.

For the avoidance of doubt, points awarded in-game are subject to change up until one hour after the final whistle of the last match of any given day. Once the points have all been updated on that day, no further adjustments to points will be made.

      Bonus Points

The Bonus Points System (BPS) utilises a range of statistics to create a BPS score for every player. The three best performing players in each match will be awarded bonus points. 3 points will be awarded to the highest scoring player, 2 to the second best and 1 to the third.

Examples of how bonus point ties will be resolved are as follows:

If there is a tie for first place, Players 1 & 2 will receive 3 points each and Player 3 will receive 1 point.
If there is a tie for second place, Player 1 will receive 3 points and Players 2 and 3 will receive 2 points each.
If there is a tie for third place, Player 1 will receive 3 points, Player 2 will receive 2 points and Players 3 & 4 will receive 1 point each.
How is the BPS score calculated?

Players score BPS points based on the following statistics (one point for each unless otherwise stated):

      Action BPS
      Playing 1 to 60 minutes 3
      Playing over 60 minutes 6
Goalkeepers and defenders scoring a goal 12
      Midifielders scoring a goal 18
      Forwards scoring a goal 24
      Assists 9
Goalkeepers and defenders keeping a clean sheet 12
      Saving a penalty 15
      Save 2
      Open play cross 1
Creating a big chance (a chance where the receiving player should score) 3
For every 2 clearances, blocks and interceptions (total) 1
      For every 3 recoveries 1
      Key pass 1
      Successful tackle (net*) 2
      Successful dribble 1
Scoring the goal that wins a match 3
70 to 79% pass completion (at least 30 passes made) 2
80 to 89% pass completion (at least 30 passes made) 4
90%+ pass completion (at least 30 passes made) 6
      Conceding a penalty -3
      Missing a penalty -6
      Yellow card -3
      Red card -9
      Own goal -6
      Missing a big chance -3
Making an error which leads to a goal -3
Making an error which leads to an attempt at goal -1
      Being tackled -1
      Conceding a foul -1
      Being caught offside -1
      Shot off target -1
*Net successful tackles is the total of all successful tackles minus any unsuccessful tackles. Players will not be awarded negative BPS points for this statistic.

Data is supplied by Opta and once it has been marked as final will not be changed. We will not enter into discussion around any of the statistics used to calculate this score for any individual match.
