The Knee Jerk

You could nearly make a half decent eleven with the players who didn’t play this Gameweek. I was tempted to sit and try and get a team together just to highlight this fact and, well, I could have done it but it got a bit contrived. (Alex Baptiste?)

Needless to say there was a number of high profile absentees which left some gaping holes in players teams and pushed peoples benches to breaking point. Of those missing Nasri, Adam and Alex were irritations but it was the absence of out of position defenders El-Mohammady and Coleman which will have got players worried.

Much is made of the out of position player and to find one is, well, it’s great. To find two therefore is, without wanting to sound lame, absolutely amazing. Many will have both these players as their respective price, attacking potential and ability to keep clean sheets will have made them obvious picks. To have them both out and to etch doubts into our collective minds about their ability to start games going forward is an unwanted distraction. Indeed many have already discussed potentially taking these players out of their teams.

One key thing to consider and remember is the fact that at this time of year, as games come thick and fast, Premier League managers do tend to rotate. This is especially true in situations where games come on Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday. It’s important to take a FFS team deep breath, step back and appreciate the fact that rotation does happen, particularly with players of lower value. This is the knee jerk and the knee jerk reaction is to remove these players. Going forward we don’t know if this is just a rest or if this is a long term issue therefore it’s worth waiting to see what will materialise. For example in Coleman’s case Fellaini’s late red card should lead to a shuffle in the Everton midfield. This could mean Heitinga being called into the centre or a re-call for Coleman.

Elsewhere it was another week of captains under performing. Before the games (and particularly during) people were talking about dropping Drogba, Fabregas and Malouda. Whilst there may be some merit in considering other options such as Torres, who appears to have found his goal scoring form, surely it is only a matter of time before these big hitters begin to find form again. As such my logic follows as above, hold tight. Knee Jerkers (the players, not the articles) tend to act quick, spend points and regret their moves a couple of weeks later. Patience is advised.

Overall though its fair to say these midweek games have been ones to forget. Thankfully we only have to wait two more days until the weekend. Expect more rotation and more headaches going forward. Stay tuned on the site and through our Twitter for updates.

Consistency 🙂 Only two scores under 50 all season.

For those playing the Oz Sportal EPL.

Had a shocker this week with both teams. Down to 56th & 60th overall. Highest scorer by far was Chicharito. Highest riser was Park going up 1.7, highest faller was Nasri by 1.5 million.

    Hello guys!

Nightmare week, more red arrows than a fly over.

    Foster / Harper
    Toure / Coleman / Elmo / Jara / Konchesky
    Nasri / Adam / Arteta / Malouda / Barton
    Piquionne / Drogba / Carroll

I've got 9 mil in the bank. I was thinking

    Jara > A.Cole
    Nasri > Gerrard

    Thoughts? Any better transfers going?

"More red arrows than a fly over". I like that one.

You've got 9 million in the bank? Jeez I thought I had a lot with 6.1 to spend. I was thinking about getting Gerrard. But someone on here made a good point and noted that he isn't as forward as he has been in past season, meaning he isn't a neccesity anymore. I know people won't like it, but Cesc is a darling in the eyes of the bonus point judges. He got 2 last night and I didn't think he looked that good. Can you afford it?

Great feedback, thanks. I am thinking gerrard may see his spark soon, but going on my season it will be another 2 pointer. I do sleep like a baby knowing cesc is in my team. I can afford a cesc move, but I am looking at jara out so I need a decent replacement for him first. Just studying the fixtures now.

Same here. Something needs to give somewhere.

I really thought Drogba's shot(with no keepr in sight) was going in , during the 2nd half. But no, it hits a defender on his shin.

He just looked so lacklustre. Suppose it's the mossie's fault.

I know that Torres is cheaper, but I feel that a lot of people will be sorry once they chuck him out. As we said, this week was a good week for people who don't change their team much. I think Drogba must be have a place in my team. Besides, it's easier to build a FPL team around Drogba than it was Ronaldo

Okay how's this for trades over the next few weeks:
    Brunt->VDV
    O'Shea->Ferdinand
    Coleman->Kolarov (when fit)

I know a lot of people will ask why I'm getting Ferdinand, but he's the cheapest Man Utd defender who will play week in week out. Also leaves me cash for when I have to upgrade Krul.

Finally, the penny has dropped for me (last night x3 +1s) . . .

I have too many "fringe" defenders eg O Shea, Elmo, Coleman, Simpson (just back from inj) - only exception is Scott Dann.

Need to shore this up with little cash.

I may have to bite the bullet and lose Bale and free some def cash. But for whom...?

You can't get rid of Faye with his upcoming fixtures and goal threat.
Mummy was dropped to keep Sunderland right tight versus Spurs, and he will be back I think.

I've made one trade this week, bringing in Krul for Robinson and freeing up 0.5.

Team is currently as follows for the upcoming gameweek (GW13)
    Krul (Jaskaleinen)
    Coleman, Bosingwa, Konchesky (Faye, Elmuhammadi)
    Fabregas, VDV, Malouda, Ethrington (Ferguson)
    Drogba (c), Carroll, Berbatov

1.6 in the bank and an extra trade this week or next up my sleeve after finally having a week without a transfer last gameweek.

Seriously considering bringing in either Boateng or Kolarov, most likely for Coleman or Faye. I still like these guys at their price though, and am somewhat reluctant to get rid of either of them, especially with the way defensive players (generally) have scored this year.

The other option is to free up another 0.4 or 0.5 and bring in Tevez for Berbatov next week. I would probably do this by downgrading Malouda, or else culling Faye for a 4.0 defender. In hindsight I should have chosen a different 4.0 keeper and brought in Simpson for Faye.

Any suggestions or thoughts on my side?

What do you think of these transfers :

    Marouane Chamakh to Andy Carroll
Florent Malouda to Rafael Van der Vaart
    Scott Dann to Kolo Toure

morning all, the first two i would say yes, but dann is quite a good rotation defender in my opinion. the extra money and cost of a transfer is not worth it for the last one. hope this helps

I wouldn't do any of them.

Carroll and VDV have horrible fixtures coming up after this week.

Disastrous GW for me. Went from being about 40 points clear in my £ league to now only 5 points ahead, all the momentum seems to be with my rivals. Red arrow after red arrow. My squad doens't even look that bad.. everyone in my league now has Torres and when he does anything I lose out.. especially since Drogba is looking useless at the mo. Rant over.

Feel with you. I'm on a bad run on my own. nothing's going my way. Seems I lost my vision. But there's no time for whining -> second half of the season is more important.

the player for me that sticks out like a sore thumb is malouda. I know it is not a popular opinion on thsi site as most people think malouda and drogba are 'must haves' but they are expensive and only worht it when on form, chelsea are clearly not as free scoring as at the start of the season. i got rid of drogba and malouda 3 gw's ago and have not regretted it.

i would transfer malouda and then for VDV, it will free up a couple of million to upgrade another striker or midfielder. possibly look to jarvis, piqueone, silva, ashley young, walcott, parker, arteta, cahill.hope this helps

i did well out of this gw somehow.67 points, which i am pleased with.

    my team for next week:
    hart(foster)
    rio, cashley, hutton(dann, foley)
    adam, nani, rvdv, cesc (barton)
    berba, chamak, carroll
1.7m in the bank so i am considering:
    nani>silva or jarvis in
    berba>piqueone
