A huge name in US Fantasy Sports, FanDuel arrives on these shores with a game built specifically for a UK audience.

The game has been created from the ground up over the past 18 months, at times involving members of the Fantasy Football Scout community, who were part of a beta test during Euro 16.

FanDuel has launched today and we’re very proud to announce that we’ll be supporting the game throughout the new season, running tips and weekly articles to help guide those of you who get involved.

FanDuel will be hosting custom Fantasy Football Scout contests, including free entry options, and will also be devising tournaments over the course of the 2016/17 campaign.

What is FanDuel?

FanDuel should sit perfectly with the Fantasy Football Scout community.

The concept will be very familiar – you have £100 million to build a team of 11 players and you can enter this selection in as many of the available contests as you choose. You can, of course, create multiple teams and enter numerous contests to increase your chances of winning.

The player prices change week-to-week based on player performance and, as with many of these games, there’s real appeal in attempting to exploit value options within the player list.

That’s certainly what we’ll be trying to help you achieve with our Weekly Shop and dedicated FanDuel articles.

The contests allow you to tinker with your selection right up until kick-off, so if you’re able to monitor team sheets and react quickly to opportunities, these can sometimes offer an advantage.

For now squads for the Gameweek will be locked when the first match gets underway.

This single-deadline rule is soon to be addressed, though. Typically, squads will be locked as the kick-offs go by, so your players involved in the early fixture will be locked first, allowing you to continue to swap out the players in your starting XI who are due to play later.

There are various contest formats to enter and, while those with higher entry fees will typically offer the bigger prizes, there will be large pots available for the smaller entry fee contests, depending on the number of entrants.

Each week, there will always be at least one free entry contest for those looking to get involved.

Why Should I Play?

FanDuel ignored the option of importing their US game mechanics and instead invested in building something new and fresh.

Not only does this mean that the game is tailored to us as Fantasy Football managers, it also ensures that every player starts from scratch.

FanDuel begins as a level playing field.

You won’t be up against veteran players armed with proven methods and complex spreadsheets – even those who have played Daily Fantasy Sports for years will come into this game with little or no experience of the scoring.

That means that the Fantasy Football Scout community and other experienced Fantasy Football managers have the opportunity to become established and successful FanDuel players.

When you delve into the scoring system, you’ll see that it sits well with us all.

FanDuel use a rich variety of match actions, all devised from Opta data, to power their scoring.

Uniquely, clean sheets are only a scoring factor for goalkeepers.

Instead, all players are rewarded for tackles, clearances, blocks and interceptions. Those scoring methods obviously favour defenders, whilst ball-winning midfielders also come to the fore – a rarity for Fantasy Football.

Of course, our Members have access to a five-year archive of all the key data and we’ve already created custom tables to help FanDuel players with selection.

You can view the full FanDuel scoring matrix here.

Our short experience in the Beta over the summer told us that it’s a very well balanced scoring system; there is no single dominating statistic and FanDuel have reacted to feedback to tweak the scoring for the final release.

The game will have you considering players that you’ve never looked at before, building teams that look very different to traditional Fantasy Football lineups. That can only be a good thing.

How Do I Start?

You can register for a free account via this link.

When you sign up, enter the promocode “SCOUT” and FanDuel will refund your first paid entry fee, up to £10, as free entry credit if you don’t win cash

After that, you can begin creating your first lineup and then choose to enter any of the opening weekend’s contests.

There’s a free-for-all contest available in the lobby and we’ve already set up a Fantasy Football Scout contest that offers a total of £200 in prizes.

This costs just £1 to enter and is available for 230 entrants – the top 57 places will collect at least £2, with the winner earning £25 and runner-up collecting £15.

This week and on several occasions over the season we’ll be offering special contest options.

Look out for our full strategy guide to the game next week and also our regular Weekly Shop and FanDuel Focus articles over the course of the season.

Antonio may start at RB, so I'd avoid him. Rather have Hazard over KDB because of form and KDB will be competing in a stacked MCI midfield. Williams has some tough games as well as Morgan, so I would suggest waiting on those. Maybe do Williams to Walker/Shaw and Morgan to Mee (BUR)

              There's always choice and I don't currently have Kun - Ibrahimovic - 6.5m.

I have three 9m+ midfielders and a 5.5m which I'd classify as a strong midfield.

I think the 5.5m midfielder is a punt position to be creative with and over the short term I'm not sure the 6.5m options are the much better, in my opinion if course.

That's spot on mate sorry i assumed you had gone that route.. nowt wrong with a 5.5 punt if you have 3 big hitters backing them up at all

There's no right or wrong answer right now i just like to be strong through out the team and two forwards totalling 24.5 million holds you back in that sense.. it may well be the right play but i'd rather drive a rusty nail through my nut sack than go into a season with a Townsend and a Gradel for example taking up 2 of my midfield slots

                    I think a 7.5 & 5.5 looks much better than a Townsend & Gradel type combo also.

That's maybe an option for me too.

                    Still largely undecided.

I would prefer the 3 big hitters backing up Fischer..
Essentially you would be dropping one of them for a 7.5.. it's a good price range though but you get my point hopefully

Friend, Taylor, Evans for decent early fixtures.
Paredes is being selected as he's 4.0 and scored 30 points last season so he pops up when people do a search for a 4.0 defender.
Don't think he's a starter (could be corrected on that).

Draxler has told Wolfsburg that he wants to leave the club; he said he told that to the club after the semi-final with France. A Premier League team seems the obvious choice, maybe Tottenham? Arsenal wouldn't know where to put him.

West Ham has been wanting to sign a better striker since early june. They failed to sign Lacazette and then tried to sign Bacca. They have a lot of money to spend on a striker(and know they've also sold Sakho so they have even more money).

I had him for ages and couldn't work out why nobody on here had him either. But West Ham have issues I think. Payet may not start the season, and if he does, he may be slow. He is vital for Carrol I think. I'm keeping an eye on him, but a risky one to start on.

I think there are better 5M picks than Stones, especially considering his lack of attacking returns. Williams doesn't have good fixtures but he could work with a specific rotation.
      Don't like Keane's fixtures either.

Midfield and attack look great with Deulofeu and Leko as doubts.

    Evening all.

I may be getting close to my final pool. I'm sure I have my price model to include Zlatan and Kun.

    4.5/4.0
    5.5/5.5/4.5/4.5/4.5
    10.0/9.5/6.5/5.5/4.5
    13.0/11.5/6.5

Mahrez and Hazard are the other two premium items I will go for to start the campaign but we are spoiled for choice filling the other slots this season I think.

After being put off Sigurdsson by the apathy towards Swans due to the strong possibility they will sell other prized assets I looked to downgrade to a 5.5 and currently can't choose between Fischer and Gradel. This allowed me to upgrade to Zlatan from Rooney which makes me feel a lot better. Filling my other spots will be Mirallas or Deulofeu and Austin (or an array of other fine candidates at 6.5!)

In defence I have liked the look of Valencia who may revert to the safer Shaw by next week. John Terry will start in my team. I have a three-way rotation with Evans, Byram and Pieters. This of course will depend on Byram nailing down left back.

The goalkeeper is a take your pick job. Foster stands out as the safe one but currently on Mandanda. I imagine he has some assurances from the club he is number 1. Likewise Valdes. And they all have kind fixtures early on.

I get a fair bit of stick for my obsession with FPL from my wife to the newbie casual newspaper dream team mates that hammered me for an entire season until I pulled a 175 pointer in the big DGW. But I think this is my season.

Rodney. This time next year, we'll be millionaires.

Good structure, good reasoning. Makes a change for sometime to post a justification rather than ask for a rating that's irrelevant.

      Good post.
Maybe go Courtois instead of Terry to ensure starting Chelsea defence?

I don't see value in premium keepers and I think JT is going to have a great season and will be nailed early.

The team will evolve as the season goes on when Arsenal and Liverpool assets show up as their fixtures get more appealing. I don't expect to have a lot of these players after a few weeks so targetting a fast start.

I would watch the United defensive space carefully because United are allegedly going for Fabinho which would put in a dent in Valencia UNLESS Rooney is eventually dropped and Mkhi moves inside, freeing up the RW position.

Can't invisage him nailing a right wing slot but may be used there occasionally. As I say, Shaw is the easier pick but it looks like Valencia has the most attacking potential of the two. Darmian may still be there and even Phil Jones has been tried there.

if Fabinho joins, he's two steps down the ladder. not to mention if TFM gets run outs there in addition to midfield

No, but making him train with the reserves is totally disrespectful to a man with such a distinguished career

It's not a surprise he's being moved on, he shouldn't have been signed in the first place. But to make a player of his class and what's he's achieved in the game, train with the reserves, is classless from Mourinho as per usual.
