A huge name in US Fantasy Sports, FanDuel arrives on these shores with a game built specifically for a UK audience.

The game has been created from the ground up over the past 18 months, at times involving members of the Fantasy Football Scout community, who were part of a beta test during Euro 16.

FanDuel has launched today and we’re very proud to announce that we’ll be supporting the game throughout the new season, running tips and weekly articles to help guide those of you who get involved.

FanDuel will be hosting custom Fantasy Football Scout contests, including free entry options, and will also be devising tournaments over the course of the 2016/17 campaign.

What is FanDuel?

FanDuel should sit perfectly with the Fantasy Football Scout community.

The concept will be very familiar – you have £100 million to build a team of 11 players and you can enter this selection in as many of the available contests as you choose. You can, of course, create multiple teams and enter numerous contests to increase your chances of winning.

The player prices change week-to-week based on player performance and, as with many of these games, there’s real appeal in attempting to exploit value options within the player list.

That’s certainly what we’ll be trying to help you achieve with our Weekly Shop and dedicated FanDuel articles.

The contests allow you to tinker with your selection right up until kick-off, so if you’re able to monitor team sheets and react quickly to opportunities, these can sometimes offer an advantage.

For now squads for the Gameweek will be locked when the first match gets underway.

This single-deadline rule is soon to be addressed, though. Typically, squads will be locked as the kick-offs go by, so your players involved in the early fixture will be locked first, allowing you to continue to swap out the players in your starting XI who are due to play later.

There are various contest formats to enter and, while those with higher entry fees will typically offer the bigger prizes, there will be large pots available for the smaller entry fee contests, depending on the number of entrants.

Each week, there will always be at least one free entry contest for those looking to get involved.

Why Should I Play?

FanDuel ignored the option of importing their US game mechanics and instead invested in building something new and fresh.

Not only does this mean that the game is tailored to us as Fantasy Football managers, it also ensures that every player starts from scratch.

FanDuel begins as a level playing field.

You won’t be up against veteran players armed with proven methods and complex spreadsheets – even those who have played Daily Fantasy Sports for years will come into this game with little or no experience of the scoring.

That means that the Fantasy Football Scout community and other experienced Fantasy Football managers have the opportunity to become established and successful FanDuel players.

When you delve into the scoring system, you’ll see that it sits well with us all.

FanDuel use a rich variety of match actions, all devised from Opta data, to power their scoring.

Uniquely, clean sheets are only a scoring factor for goalkeepers.

Instead, all players are rewarded for tackles, clearances, blocks and interceptions. Those scoring methods obviously favour defenders, whilst ball-winning midfielders also come to the fore – a rarity for Fantasy Football.

Of course, our Members have access to a five-year archive of all the key data and we’ve already created custom tables to help FanDuel players with selection.

You can view the full FanDuel scoring matrix here.

Our short experience in the Beta over the summer told us that it’s a very well balanced scoring system; there is no single dominating statistic and FanDuel have reacted to feedback to tweak the scoring for the final release.

The game will have you considering players that you’ve never looked at before, building teams that look very different to traditional Fantasy Football lineups. That can only be a good thing.

How Do I Start?

You can register for a free account via this link.

When you sign up, enter the promocode “SCOUT” and FanDuel will refund your first paid entry fee, up to £10, as free entry credit if you don’t win cash

After that, you can begin creating your first lineup and then choose to enter any of the opening weekend’s contests.

There’s a free-for-all contest available in the lobby and we’ve already set up a Fantasy Football Scout contest that offers a total of £200 in prizes.

This costs just £1 to enter and is available for 230 entrants – the top 57 places will collect at least £2, with the winner earning £25 and runner-up collecting £15.

This week and on several occasions over the season we’ll be offering special contest options.

Look out for our full strategy guide to the game next week and also our regular Weekly Shop and FanDuel Focus articles over the course of the season.

Hi everyone. New member here. I wish you all luck in the new season, and hope we can give each other the edge to win our mini leagues. I have been tinkering a lot in the last few days, and have settled on 3-5-2. I just don't fancy the cheaper forwards. Can I get a first RMT if you please?

    Forster / Pickford

Alderweireld / VVD / Pieters (Friend / Francis)

    Hazard / Firminho / Deulofeu / Bojan / Bolasie

    Aguero / Ibra (Diomande)

I really think Bojan and Deulofeu in particular are underpriced this season. Thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

How much is Bolasie? I think I would swap him though. Bojan isn't perfect but I get why you like him

Bolasie is 6m. I would like Lamela, but would have to sacrifice 1m elsewhere. Only one I could do that on really is Toby A. And he is my first pick in defense. That man was a fpl god last year! Any suggestions?

Think people are getting carried away with Deolefeu's preseason on here, ala Darren Bent and Boselli of yesteryear. He's usually what, £5.5m or so and he hasn't yet justified that smaller price tag either.
Good player with usually very little end product. Definitely has the attributes to step up though.

New manager is swaying it for me. He has always shown promise, and despite his limited minutes last season, his output was good. Plenty of creativity, and that bit of magic that he can produce. If he had more pitch time he would have been right up there last season. Not getting the best out of players like him is why Martinez was sacked. Koeman knows what he is doing. I have faith. If not, I will swap him. Hardly breaking the bank.

how in the name of all things football do you 'not fancy' Gray as a cheap striker. 8 in 5. player of the championship last season. good fixtures. share of penalties. literally couldn't get better.

I just prefer Deulofeu's chances of scoring big. I can't see Burnley scoring many goals, he is untested in PL. He isn't going to blow Delofeu away, becuase his team don't have the goals in them. It was between the two, granted. Koeman showed what he can get out of players last season, and I think he is a better bet. Personal choice

Won't argue against personal choice, go with your gut. But I feel like he will do a lot better than delofeu, hopefully even better than ighalo did last season and he was a huge success. Burnley were all about goals last season if my memory serves me correctly.

I think I have only gone Bolasie because of price. Townsend likes an injury though. That Palace midfield is always rotated, so make sure you have a bench to speak of.

I'm leaning towards Mkhi, because he's Mourinho signing. Martial is fantastic player, but Mou is crazy, i don't know will he play Martial in every match. So many wingers, Mata, Young, Lingard, Depay. I know Martial is better, but, you know, it's Mourinho. He could easly bench Martial for Young or Lingard for some defensive minded tactic.

I just use that as a tiebreaker sometimes. If someone is obscure enough that you cannot pronounce their name they are probably rubbish.

    A or B?

    A. Courtois/Jaku
    Valencia /Gabriel/Walker/VVD/Smith
    KDB/Payet/Firmino/Routledge/Fletcher
    Ibra/Lukaku/Gray

I like the spread of teams but very nervous of leaving out Aguero. Routledge is for the first few games to see if he via continue his pre season form as he played alongside the striker a fair under Guidolin last year .

    Plan B is

    Cech/Jaku
    Shaw/Baines/Francis/Friend/McCauley
    Ayew/Siggy/Hazard/KDB/Fletcher
    Aguero/Gray/Wilson

Ayew will probably start up front and Siggy is good value. I had Ayew in my team until the last minute last year the changed it and he scored 4 in the first 4. Would likely change one on them after a few weeks once there's more form to look,at.

Isn't it a bit pointless of us to be constantly tinkering teams when there's an inevitable rush of transfers around the corner that'll blow most plans away

    Stones / Williams / Ayew / Lacazette / Icardi / Pogba / Costa / Mahrez / Gomez / Chadli / Mustafi etc

Would anyone be interested in a team competition? So collect 100 entrants, 5 fans of each club in Prem. End of each GW team with lowest combined GW score is eliminated. Would last 19GW so could be ran a second time? Just an idea.

Good idea, like a fpl hunger games. I'd only run it once though and wait a few weeks for teams to settle and the people that only visit this site st before gw to copy teams to vanish so you still have actives.

I agree. If you run it a second time it loses impact. Plus if you only do it the first half of teh season you get it out of the way before DGW's start skewing things.

Hi guys, could you help me with this draft and perhaps rate it out of 10? First season of FFS

    Mandanda (Jakupovic)
Azpilicueta - Shaw - Fuchs (Lenihan - Smith)
    Hazard - Mahrez - Tadic - Deulofeu - Fischer
    Aguero - Sturridge (Diomande)

    1. Clumsy Sakho
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

Question marks over Sturridge, in my opinion downgrade Fuchs to a 4.5 and upgrade both Lenihan and smith to 4.5s for a nice rotation. Like it otherwise!

Personally really like the option of Tadic, very creative and on set-pieces. I'd for sure lump the extra 3m on Tadic but it depends on what you are going to do with the extra money.

Has there been a season where 3-5-2 has won th FPL, or is a 3-4-3 the best formation?

    1. Reedy
      • 15 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

I don't know actually. But far more teams run 3-4-3 so even if every winner to date has predominantly used that formation, it might just be because there are more teams like that.

I like to swap between formations during the season, but I do like 3-5-2 and that's probably how I'll start this year.

There are arrows for up and down after you click on a team or you can delete the teams you do not want. Neither way is as good as the old way but you can do it.

If you are trying to do a 5 man defensive rotation be prepared to sue for RSI.

Thanks both, the arrows weren't showing first time I looked. A real pain compared to the drag and drop, such a small thing but will really impact on how much I use the ticker

Deleting is quicker. But also has problems because if you want to swap about you cannot see the other sides.

I made my own ticker because of it as it is now pretty useless.

I think this is good enough to work out a rotation
