A huge name in US Fantasy Sports, FanDuel arrives on these shores with a game built specifically for a UK audience.

The game has been created from the ground up over the past 18 months, at times involving members of the Fantasy Football Scout community, who were part of a beta test during Euro 16.

FanDuel has launched today and we’re very proud to announce that we’ll be supporting the game throughout the new season, running tips and weekly articles to help guide those of you who get involved.

FanDuel will be hosting custom Fantasy Football Scout contests, including free entry options, and will also be devising tournaments over the course of the 2016/17 campaign.

What is FanDuel?

FanDuel should sit perfectly with the Fantasy Football Scout community.

The concept will be very familiar – you have £100 million to build a team of 11 players and you can enter this selection in as many of the available contests as you choose. You can, of course, create multiple teams and enter numerous contests to increase your chances of winning.

The player prices change week-to-week based on player performance and, as with many of these games, there’s real appeal in attempting to exploit value options within the player list.

That’s certainly what we’ll be trying to help you achieve with our Weekly Shop and dedicated FanDuel articles.

The contests allow you to tinker with your selection right up until kick-off, so if you’re able to monitor team sheets and react quickly to opportunities, these can sometimes offer an advantage.

For now squads for the Gameweek will be locked when the first match gets underway.

This single-deadline rule is soon to be addressed, though. Typically, squads will be locked as the kick-offs go by, so your players involved in the early fixture will be locked first, allowing you to continue to swap out the players in your starting XI who are due to play later.

There are various contest formats to enter and, while those with higher entry fees will typically offer the bigger prizes, there will be large pots available for the smaller entry fee contests, depending on the number of entrants.

Each week, there will always be at least one free entry contest for those looking to get involved.

Why Should I Play?

FanDuel ignored the option of importing their US game mechanics and instead invested in building something new and fresh.

Not only does this mean that the game is tailored to us as Fantasy Football managers, it also ensures that every player starts from scratch.

FanDuel begins as a level playing field.

You won’t be up against veteran players armed with proven methods and complex spreadsheets – even those who have played Daily Fantasy Sports for years will come into this game with little or no experience of the scoring.

That means that the Fantasy Football Scout community and other experienced Fantasy Football managers have the opportunity to become established and successful FanDuel players.

When you delve into the scoring system, you’ll see that it sits well with us all.

FanDuel use a rich variety of match actions, all devised from Opta data, to power their scoring.

Uniquely, clean sheets are only a scoring factor for goalkeepers.

Instead, all players are rewarded for tackles, clearances, blocks and interceptions. Those scoring methods obviously favour defenders, whilst ball-winning midfielders also come to the fore – a rarity for Fantasy Football.

Of course, our Members have access to a five-year archive of all the key data and we’ve already created custom tables to help FanDuel players with selection.

You can view the full FanDuel scoring matrix here.

Our short experience in the Beta over the summer told us that it’s a very well balanced scoring system; there is no single dominating statistic and FanDuel have reacted to feedback to tweak the scoring for the final release.

The game will have you considering players that you’ve never looked at before, building teams that look very different to traditional Fantasy Football lineups. That can only be a good thing.

How Do I Start?

You can register for a free account via this link.

When you sign up, enter the promocode “SCOUT” and FanDuel will refund your first paid entry fee, up to £10, as free entry credit if you don’t win cash

After that, you can begin creating your first lineup and then choose to enter any of the opening weekend’s contests.

There’s a free-for-all contest available in the lobby and we’ve already set up a Fantasy Football Scout contest that offers a total of £200 in prizes.

This costs just £1 to enter and is available for 230 entrants – the top 57 places will collect at least £2, with the winner earning £25 and runner-up collecting £15.

This week and on several occasions over the season we’ll be offering special contest options.

Look out for our full strategy guide to the game next week and also our regular Weekly Shop and FanDuel Focus articles over the course of the season.

Does it make sense to go Foster and Jakupovic to upgrade a 4.0 defender to 4.5?

I'm leaning more toward the Foster and Heaton combo

Should not need the 5th dender unless you get very unlucky. Two 4.5 rotating keepers better I think.

Crunched the numbers on Deulofeu. He's now played at the highest level for three seasons, since he was 19. He has played 4272 minutes in that period. Scored 11 goals, assisted 28. Goal involvement every 105 minutes.

For comparison, these are from only last season
    KDB 3456 mins 17g 16a, every 105 mins
    Mahrez 3128 mins 18g 10a, every 111 mins
    Ozil 3940 mins 8g 20a. One every 140 minutes

I knew he had wicked end product but damn.

Didn't include the 2012/13 season because he was playing in the second division but fwiw he got 18g 5a in 2451 mins. One every

Not sure I like the 28 assists bit, the fact they're only worth half a goal points wise is always an underrated aspect in the goal involvement stats.

Yeah you are talking purely fpl. I'm just pointing out his end product on the pitch is better than the most end producty world class players around atm. Mental.
Would be interesting to take these stats to the fpl extreme and work out the points per minute. I cba atm though

In terms of the numbers over the same period, 5883 mins 25g 17a, every 140 minutes.

Always the same deal with mirallas in fpl. Great points potential when he plays, always had end product, but in many ways an average footballer and in and out of the team. . Can't see that changing this season tbh. Deu is on the up and will hope to become a key player this season.

Do both become better picks if they move?

That may very well be the question, I'd say Stones would be...Williams is already a good pick regardless

Williams would be a cheaper entry into the Everton defence than either Coleman/Baines too. Could see these moves freeing up a little bit of cash in a few defences.

I don't see this as a problem really. I might have the wings mixed but..

        Sterling/Nolito KDB/Silva Sane/Nasri
        Gundogan Fernando

If he wants to challenge on all fronts it's not outrageous.. 11 players for 5 spots is almost a good back-up for every position, with some (Delph, Navas) clearly second (third) choice

    Foster-Heaton
    Valencia-Gabriel-Wollsheid-Friend (Kone)
    Hazard-Mkhitaryan-Ayew-Deulofeu (Capoue)
    Aguero-Costa-Austin

Q: If I have two or three emergencies in the same position who all score, which score is added to my team to replace a non-playing player? A: The lowest scoring emergency is always used. Please note, emergencies that score greater than 0 are only used to replace the score of a non-playing player in your team.

If you play 442 you'll always have a reserve. Autosubs can only replace the same position.

Q: How often do player's values change? A: In order for player values to change, a player must have played at least 3 matches. Therefore you will see the first player price changes after the first 3 game weeks of play and weekly thereafter.

Price changes are crazy in this game. Easy to get 140m or more.

This is how I think we will line-up at the start of the season. (two or more players in one positions means I am uncertain)

      Hart
      Zabaleta Denayer/Mangala Otamendi Clichy/Angelino
      Fernandinho Yaya Touré
      De Bruyne Silva Nolito
      Agüero

      Background Information.
Guardiola has asked Zabaleta to stay at the club as he is part of his plans, this is why I think he will play or at least the RB position will be hard to call considering how well Sagna played in the summer. Maybe a rotation?

Angelino has rejected loan moves from Anderlecht, Feyenoord and FC Utrecht in order to fight for his place, Pep rates him highly. He could be 4.0 once he get's added.

Nolito was promised first team football and the way things are going for Raheem I can see Pep playing Nolito ahead of him whilst he carries on learning, same goes with Sane who I believe will be a rotated player which makes him a risky pick.
This is a qoute from Nolito - "I thought it was the best decision for me and my career. I have come to the Premier League to play with City and under Pep Guardiola, who will play me in the first team, and I am very happy with the decision I took. It took me just two days to make the decision."

Gündogan is still injured and he should be back in September, and NO I do not think he is a great fantasy prospect.

Ihenacho is another player I have seen in one or two teams but I must warn you he is a very RISKY pick, he is not guaranteed to play every week and for his price 7.0 you would want someone who is at least nailed on and guaranteed a starting spot.

      Players I think will leave:
      Kolaror, Navas and Bony.

Players I think we will sign:
      Stones and Gabriel Jesus.

I hope this helps some of you. 🙂

My idea goes further. Kun 6.5 and 4.5. Transfer the 6.5 you want in each week. 2 mil to spend on mids or defence.

See for me half the appeal of attacking rotations is that I navigate bad fixtures for mid price players without needing a single transfer on them. Then the free trades can be used on the big hitters

That is more or less what I was thinking. Have some players you play in every fixture good or bad then rotate the weaker options to play the fixtues

Exactly. I've done it a lot over the years. Sometimes very successfully, it can increase your ppg from the mid price players, sometimes very frustrating when you get those bench hauls. Its fun though and when it works perfectly and gets you 8.5 type returns from your 6.5 type players ya feel boss 😉

I haven't posted it at all but since you ask the front 8 is

            Hazard - Mahrez - Redmond - Redmond - Delofeu - Routledge
            Gray - Aguero - Ibrahimovic

If I can find a way of making Routledge into Fischer then I probably will

Very nice. Routledge is the square peg. Fixture wise you will want to bench deu, redmond, gray, redmond gw's 1 though 4, on the other hand Routledge is iffy enough that I wouldn't want to play him at all. Fischer has the fixtures play every week and you could then do the above rotation.
Now talk to me about Redmond. I wanted saints instead of palace but I figured Tadic was the only one worth having? Redmond is competing with Austin and J rod no?

He SEEMS to be first choice at the moment and has played all the friendlies. He seems to be touted as a very attacking player. I cannot justify it wholly other than I feel he will do well. By Southamptons standards they have spent a lot of money on him although we all realise 11 million is nothing these days really. I think he will be first choice

He would be the easiest person to remove for Fischer if I were to do it but not necessarily the best

Routledge will never be a season long success though. 2 fixtures maybe then he has to be gone.

It's very tough. At the moment I've actually got both Fischer and Gradel.

But a lot of options in that price bracket, a lot less than last year imo.

I'm thinking of downgrading Mahrez to an 8.5 in order to upgrade one of the 5.5's to Delofeu

Those are my 2 picks @ 5.5m. Really like both but Fischer's starting fixtures too good to ignore I think. Last night, Andy posted saying that making a team with Sanchez/KDB/Kun/Zlatan looked really ugly but I used both Fischer and Gradel as enablers =and made a draft I thought was really strong!

              Indeed.

Ah very nice. You sure Sanchez will start GW1, let alone the fact he might be fatigued?

Contrary to popular belief I actually think KdB is a little bit frustrating to own. But I guess everything changes with Pep's arrival

Nah I think Sanchez 50-50, Wenger probably doesn't even know yet. I just made that draft to see how "ugly" it really looked it.

KDB, I am 95% not starting him. 10.5m for a guy I'll never captain (Kun). Also I can see him being subbed off early and rested/rotated heaps with the abundance of AMs/wingers in the squad

And I agree entirely. Similar story to last season really

First draft here guys, what do you think? Looking at 4-3-3 early doors, rotations depending, as my theory is that defences settle faster than attacks and midfield value beats premiums in the early rounds...

      Foster, Heaton;
      Barnes, Shaw, McCauley, Coleman, Gabriel;
      Pedro, Bojan, Delofeu, Siggy, Leko;
      Kane, Aguero, Batshuayi.

Input not just welcomed, but actively sought!

Overall defence and obviously attack are good. Mid is weak.
General consensus is Wenger does not fancy Gabriel. Why I don't know.
The real risk is both Pedro and Bat from the start. Certainly different but too much of a gamble for me. And I like a punt.

I'd be concerned about rotation with that mid. Especially Pedro as mentioned. But only 1/5 is 100% nailed (Siggy). Too risky for me

My theory might well be nonsense.

I've just taken the last four years worth of games and run them into tables, breaking down games into 38 blocks of 10 to simulate rounds, and totting up the distribution of teams scoring zero, one, or more than one goals.

Long story short, there doesn't appear to be a consistent story across the seasons. Even so, I'm eyeballing a consistency across the first four weeks of each season that falls away quite sharply into 4-8 (curiously, the same week of Aguero's hauls last two seasons).

I'm seeing this as a signal to run four or five defenders in the first four weeks, then move more towards attack. Obviously we all like three at the back round here, but thinking about defensive stability over attackers finding form might be an option.

Hello all! Did some tinkering around from my first draft to get a bit more beef in the defence. What do you guys think?

      Schmeichel - Valdes*

      VVD - Baines - Valencia - McAuley* - Paredes*

      Bolasie - Hazard - Deulofeu - Siggy - Hojbjerg*

      Ibrahimovic - Aguero - Long

Still tossing up about whether to include Ibra... So many decent options at 6.5 but hes such a winner its hard to bring him out !

Look forward to hearing from you all !

              Almost.

Me and Mrs Cheese were bought a slow cooker for our wedding from a relative.

We put it ona surface with the intention of doing somthing. We then ran the washing machine under it, when we came home the vibrations had moved it an flipped it off of the surface and it was smashed on the floor. Should be easy enough though. Make a nice stew/casserole.

      Hey gang,

I am in two minds about FPL, and it is reflected in the below teams...

      Any advice?

      __________

      TEAM A [4-5-1]

      Foster (Jaku)
      Friend, McAuley, Pieters, Evans (Kone)
      Payet, Hazard, Ozil, Mahrez, Eriksen
      Aguero (Diamonde, Grabban)

The logic for this one was that over the season I can see that midfield hauling a lot of goals and assists (more than if I were to upgrade to Ibra and Gray/Austin in the FWD line) - around 700+ points combined, which is significantly more than what one more elite striker (Ibra) and a punty 6.5er (Gray/Austin/Long/Negredo) might bring in sacrificing those 2 or 3 elite mids. I am happy hitching my wagon to WBA defensively at first, and I can re-evaluate to other 4.5ers if need be. I'll be the first to admit it's not sterling back line but between Stoke, WBA, Boro and Sunderland I am relatively happy (for the first few GWs at least).
      ____________

      TEAM B [3-4-3]

      Foster (Jaku)
      Terry, Evans, Valencia (Pieters, 4.5)
      Deulo, Hazard, Mahrez, Fischer/Gradel (Fletcher)
      Aguero, Austin, Ibra

The logic for this one is that I can see the back line offering a bit more stability at first with room to swap out Valencia for other 5.5ers in the future (or Shaw if he lights it up). Again, like the previous team, I am happy with WBA and Stoke cover from Evans and Pieters. The midfield of Deulo, Hazard and Mahrez is one I have been thinking about overnight and while it's not as potent as Team A, I feel it doesn't need too much tinkering either. I am undecided on Fischer and Gradel at the moment (I'll probably go for Fischer if this team is pursued since he isn't coming off an injury). Fletcher just needs to rotate for a couple of points on the good fixtures and his job is done. Aguero, Ibra and Austin are a primo strike force and I can swap out Austin if the likes of Gray or (dare-I-say-it) Negredo start off strong.

That said, what are your thoughts? I am very much in two minds here. Comments on the weaknesses and strengths of both teams would be very welcome as well.

      Kudos!
