Nathan Redmond has usurped team-mate Dusan Tadic as part of this morning’s Watchlist refresh.

With the dust settled from the opening day’s action, we’ve dipped back into the rankings for our daily re-assessment and promoted the former Norwich winger up the midfield standings.

Priced at just 6.0 and deployed as part of a front two by manager Claude Puel, Redmond appears to be our first priority in the mid-price.

The drop for Tadic is harsh. He was outstanding in the 1-1 draw with Watford and produced some performance statistics that suggest he will be a major Fantasy force over the campaign. We will keep monitoring his displays.

But Redmond got his goal and his own numbers were equally impressive: his potential and value is just too strong.

With Puel talking him up at every opportunity, it would be remiss to overlook his appeal at the expense of Tadic and also striker Shane Long.

Southampton’s fixtures will certainly test Redmond’s output.

Puel’s side must now face trips to Manchester United, Arsenal and Leicester. But St Mary’s meetings with Sunderland and Swansea appear to provide the platform for the former Canary to go on producing.

He stacks up behind a cast of heavy-hitting midfielders but may well surpass some of that pack once the Gameweek 1 fixtures are complete.

Today we will be monitoring the performances of Roberto Firmino and Alexis Sanchez in particular.

Further down our list we saw Ross Barkley make positive strides having notched on the opening day once again.

Middlesbrough’s Gaston Ramirez also consolidated his position as our midfield weapon of choice in Aitor Karanka’s ranks.

We’re also showing patience with Andros Townsend. He demonstrated enough to suggest he’ll be a key goal threat for Crystal Palace and his mid-term fixtures remain favourabe. He holds his position as another mid-price consideration.

Further down, Erik Lamela sneaks in to our reckoning. We will be debating his rank further this week, with Dele Alli already coming under pressure as the key target in Tottenham’s midfield ahead of their encouraging schedule.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

All week I was trying to find the extra 0.5m to swap Redmond to Deulofeu.

After the GW starts it was under the sofa all along. Ah well.

A 12 point advantage from a DGW Bench Boost? Apparently not worth it.

A 12 point advantage from Bench Boost in GW1? Worth posting endlessly about.

    Makes sense. 😛

      🙄

This is getting ridiculous everyone is completely missing the point. I have had 2 main posts about it. It is worth posting about because it is an interesting discussion that goes against the norm.

Sorry for doing some thing different that had logic to back it up 😕

I agree with doing things differently. I agree it went fairly well for you. I agree there is some logic to it.

But... I disagree with one result proving the theory. If you played BB for the other 36 (or however many) SGWs, some would be better, some would be worse. Equally, some DGW BBers will do better, some will do worse.

Kudos for doing something different though. This game gets boring when we're all doing the same. 🙂

I never said I proved the threory. The whole point is to have a proper discussion about the tactic, instead of just dismissing me straight away like most.

I played my BB. So far 3 subs got me 7 points, with Feghouli to come. I'd say that was a wasted punt 🙁

We haven't even seen his team. It could quite possbily be awful. Feghouli in a GW1 BB seems to suggest so.

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

Gameweek 1 Day 1 Pluses and Minuses

After spending weeks putting your Gameweek 1 squad together yesterday you found out whether your players were starters or rotation victims, top chance creators or lost souls or shot happy chaps or shot shy wallflowers.

Whether they got points is only one part of whether your team was a success with some having some worrying underlying stats, while others showed points are on the horizon.

Here’s some of mine to get the discussion started

    Pluses –

Filler and Bench Nailed - Granted my bench included Capoue and the WBA defence but this long term is a positive, with Foster, Evans and Capoue I feel I’ve nailed my bench and squad fillers so don’t need to make any changes there until injury strikes. Particularly pleased with Capoue’s goal – that’s a victory for the FFScout community who kept an eye on his pre season goals.

Promising midfielders – Tadic topped the chance creation stats yesterday. Points are on the horizon. Gaston Ramirez was another success story – looked very strong and on set pieces for Middlesbrough.

Dembele Theory – looks to carry on. Kane with 0 shots and now 1 goal in 10 games where Dembele has been absent over last season and this. Doubters need to start believing. Pleased I shunned Kane this week.

    Minuses

Sadly I shunned Kane for Vardy. This is a huge, huge minus. Not only did the Foxes look a shadow of their former selves without Kante, they were also outclassed by Hull. Vardy not on penalties is a massive blow. Luckily I’ve 1.5 in the bank to help move him on. Mahrez is clearly the Leicester attacker of choice.

WBA away form – the signs have been there that the WBA defence, and Foster in particular, performs better away. It was proven again. For those like me with Heaton and Foster I think there is an argument for playing Foster most weeks. Heaton’s seven saves yesterday though means he is a more than able deputy – but I think those who went Foster and a 4.0 goalkeeper could be the happiest as the early Gameweeks roll by.

Yep, it seems counter-intuitive, but Capoue's points benched is better than not having him at all. Realistically, very few would've started him, so hindsight is pointless. His nailed-ness and potential transfers in are the positive result. 🙂

Exactly. Especially a 4.5midfielder. Obviously its better to have their poitns, but its also very pleasing to know I've got the 4.5mid that will go up in price and is able to be played even in tough games if needed. Good player to have and I think those with Fletcher and other bench fillers of that price will be regretting not getting the Watford man.

Did anyone see the Leicester game? I saw a couple of highlights and it looked like Vardy got a bit unlucky (was maybe rusty) and missed some chances that on another day he'd bury. Not being on penalties is annoying though - thought he would be.

Pluses - definitely Redmond and captain Aguero (but that was obvious). Like you I'm pleased my bench did well as I don't have to start worrying about those price drops.

Minuses - not being able to shift Eriksen to Lamela before the deadline due to site issues. Would have let me fund Vardy to Ibra this week if needed which I'll now probably do for a hit instead. I was open to more hits this season though so not a huge problem.

Yep the Vardy rustiness, being beaten by Hull and no penalties makes him a 8.5 striker not a 10.0. Arguably Mahrez is now worth 10.0 - I'd pay that for him now I know about the penalties.

Set pieces are key for Leicester as their quick style of attacking play almost demands opponents foul them in the box.

Vardy was clearly very rusty, but the chances came his way and his match sharpness will surely improve.

It's the defence sans Kante that I'm more concerned about.

FPL site was very slow about an hour before deadline (normal) but with about 20 minutes to go it wouldn't let me in at all.

Last minute transfer so my own fault really but still a little annoying nonetheless.

With 20 minutes left in the window, the whole site crashed. I am yet to hear if anyone got in? I understand people saying "my fault for leaving it so late" but I have to say it's their fault (FPL) for not being able to handle the traffic. This is not sour grapes (as I'm on 52 with 4 to play), if anything I may have benefited from not making those pressurised changes in the closing minutes.
I have heard all the tells of those who missed out but how many tinkers were saved from themselves by this, the great FPL blackout of 2016! At least it will be one to tell the grandchildren about as they loosen their fillings with our Werther's Originals.

I disagree with you when you say "my own fault really".
When the rules state you can change your team until the deadline, then you should be able to do exactly that. It's the site at fault and they should acknowledge that somehow.

I watched the Leicester game from behind the sofa, as I threw the armband on Vardy. This was my big minus, and I got a lot of stick for it, but I think it was a good idea that just didn't come off.

However after watching the game, I am now concerned. He looked sloppy and under confident. Maybe the Euros had a bigger negative effect on him than initially believed, or maybe he was just a bit rusty. But if another forward makes a mark this week, I have no problems shipping him out immediately.

Got to pick you up on Vardy vs Mahrez though.

"Mahrez is CLEARLY the Leicester attacker of choice"...

Vardy had a goal-bound shot blocked by Livermore, and a couple of other chances. His finishing was poor, but it's a knee-jerk to say it's a huge, huge minus. It's one poor GW, with two home fixtures to follow.

We shall see, but see below - penalties are really important for a team like Leicester. He's got to compete with Kane (when Dembele is back) Ibra, Aguero and all those very promising 6.5 strikers. Looks over priced without pens I think.

But yes - the fact that , unlike Kane, he did actually make a go of trying to score, is promising.

Yeah, I'd agree with that - Vardy not having pens might rule him out long-term, but remember why you bought him. The Hull game, sure, but also Arsenal and Swansea losing their best CBs. I don't think he's an immediate sell.

I have to say, trying to choose between all those strikers - the Dembele factor was a useful excuse for me to rule out Kane and Alli. 😀 I bloody love Dembele as a player, and the stats are quite overwhelming. CPL will be an interesting test of it!

Looks like we have similar pluses and minuses. The main blow for me was selecteing Vardy over Mahrez because I honestly thought he was on penalties - what a kick in the nuts that was. To top it off I captained Vardy ahead of Agüero who scored more.

The whole week I was stuck on Negredo or Gray and I obviously went for Gray, the only positive I can take from this is that Negredo only got 1 shot that whole match.

Gray is neither a plus or minus for me. He had some shots so not sure with him yet. I'm happy to give him another game or two.

Last season I transferred Wilson out after GWK 1 - he then went goal crazy before his injury. I'm a little more patient with promoted strikers as a result.

      Foster single keeper check.
Defence check. Happy i already have Williams too.
Midfield happy with Lamela and Delf despite missing out on Gaston and Redmond. All 4 look like good options.
Forwards - Shane Long. Looked good but might jump onto someone else. Lets see.

      Pluses:

Townsend has 6 goal attempts - top equal and looked lively. CPL look kak though.
Going with Mahrez rather then Vardy.
Doubling up on the WBA defence with Foster and McAuley. McAuley looks to have baps potential too.
Amat - although benched he got a cs and is useful 4.0 fodder.
Capoue - kept up pre-season form and a very useful 4.5 mid.
      Heaton's 7 saves = 4 points
Price structure - looks like I have this spot on.
Ramirez - pleasantly surprised with his performance. This year's Mahrez.

      Minuses:

      20 points on da bench.
      No cs from Stones.
Long - is he the right STH pick? Worth perservering though as we know he has goals to come and I feel will score more than Redmond.

Pluses - Capoue (even though he was on the bench!), Redmond, lamela Aguero(c) (obviously!!),

Minuses - Vardy the huge one. Only went him over Mahrez because I thought he was on penalties! Still think I'll stick with him for the moment. Very worried about Ibra today though...!

Can only share your frustration with Vardy.I even captained him 🙁 in a last minute whim. Glad Aguero didn't get a haul. In the end, believing him being on pens swayed me to keep him over Mahrez, despite Scout Picks advice to go with Mahrez. Little consolation in having Kane as well, but will give him more time.
Luckily other positives this GW, like Foster, Redmond, Ramirez. Capoue on the bench, though...

      Pluses:
      Redmond over Tadic
      Ramirez
      Mahrez over Vardy
Costa as a differential.. maybe(most others i wanted failed)
Double Pulis(wish i'd stuck with my initial triple!)
Amat, Capoue, Jakupovic.. the perfect bench fodder
Aguero(c) ... though that was to be expected

Only somewhat minus was Friend... though Boro did look very difficult to break down so i'm not worried at all. Same with Stones.. not that worried about it.
Shaw, Firmino, Costa, Ibra to go today so hoping for more good news!

      + foster, jakup as keepers
My midfield bossing so far ( Redmond + lamela) and still have hazard + firmino to play
Kyle Walker providing attacking returns and bonus also a big plus.

      - vardy and gray were very disappointing. Gray had 1 shot on target I believe and vardy not on pens. Think gray > negredo or vardy > lukaku/costa might be my transfer this week.

Kane dropping into the 10 position when Janssen came on is a bit of an issue. Spurs in general were sluggish but Everton are a tough team so maybe things will change with Palace next.

About the Dembele theory and Kane - You might be right, but after seeing the game yesterday I do think that Janssen in the mix is going to change things more. Kane + Janssen were in my view fighting for the space leaving Kane not much room to play with. I know it is premature, but it looks to me that Lamela is going to be the one prospering from that top pairing. He was everywhere yesterday, got the goal maybe due to the defence having to deal with the two others. I know he was playing more or less directly against Holgate but..

      Thoughts?

Mahrez over Vardy as part of a money-saving scheme to finance Zlatan. Longer-term Vardy may still end up being the better choice as having Zlatan means several midfield compromises.

Ended up choosing the right midfield compromises of Redmond and Lamela. Phew. Thanks to the FFS community for those tips.

Mahrez back on pens. Phew again, lucked out on that one.

      Minuses

Gray. Was always a bit of a GW 1 punt with Liverpool and Chelsea coming up. Looking at the number of chances he had yesterday he may end up blanking three times in a row. Will wait to see how Liverpool and Chelsea perform defensively in their openers, but there are several tempting third striker options out there for the first FT.

Went Foster and Jaku and am happy with that. Should have followed my gut and gone Rondon instead of Gray.

Also have 1.5 in the bank to o Vardy to Ibra if he shows something today.

I have double WBA/Burnley rotation with Keane and Dawson plus both keepers! Along with Fletcher and Amat a nice fat 20 points sat there. No worries for sub's though I think I'll play Foster most weeks now and perm two from the above plus Stones.

Long disappointed me. I have 5.0m in the bank so Ibra is in if he scores today. I then may move on Townsend for Redmond to cover Saints.

Overall happy with Firmino, Oscar and Shaw to play.

+Foster, Redmond, Mahrez, AgueroC and Capoue
-Lots of points on the bench (Capoue, Evans), only 4 points from 2 defenders (Stones, Friend), and last but not least Jamie Vardy. From what I saw yesterday he's not worth 10.0 at all, and I'm gonna be looking to get in one of Zlatan, Kane, Lukaku, unless I need the transfer somewhere else.

      + Going Redmond over Ramirez
+ Going Foster and jaku instead of Heston
      + Capping Kun

      - Going vardy over Ibra

      ? Going Hazard over mahrez

Pluses - Mahrez is on pens!

Minuses - I picked Fischer but he didn't get a look in. Straight swap for Ramirez looks like a must tonight in case of a dreaded price rise/fall. Also had Kane but I'm determined to be patient. Likewise with Tadic over Redmond which might not be wise.

There are lots of new names for my watchlist. Undecided if this is a plus or a minus yet.

Pluses - Aguero (c), Capoue, Amat on bench

Minuses - Not being able to resist Saturday morning tinkering and transfering Gray for Ibra and Firmino for L.Cook. Capoue would have started and I've have got Ibra points from this afternoon.

I'm very keen on Ramirez, but just couldn't decide between him and Feghouli, so I stuck with Feghouli. I'll see how that pans out on Monday.

Vardy was very rusty V Hull don't give up on him yet especially as Mahrez has look disinterested throughout pre season. remember his points came from a dodgy penalty hit down the middle. If you saw the game what else did he do? would rather have Vardy IMO

I really think that playing Arsenal (probably sporting a weakened, slow back line) will suit Vardy's - and Leicester's - game a lot better than Hull's deep back four with no inclination to get caught upfield.

That said, I would like to keep Vardy (got himself into the positions to score, finishing was off) and get rid of Mahrez who looked... nonchalant. I have £1.5m to spend. Straight swap to Sanchez?

By next week Leicester could be facing a backline of:

      Bellerin Mustafi Koscielny Monreal

      1. Andy_Social

Which might suit them. Leicester are champions courtesy of a counter-attacking style. Arsenal will oblige them, whereas Hull set up shop to defend.

Sure, but both Koscielny and Mustafi are quick.

Vardy got goals against Arsenal last year with 1 being a pen, and 2 getting 1v1 in Mertz channel.

I have Vardy, but having lost pens, and staring down the barrel of price drops, I'm not happy with him in my team.

I'm disappointed in Vardy myself, but I'll give him 4 weeks of decent fixtures. The striker I'm likely to quickly drop is Gray - Burnley really didn't show much up front.

80%, imo. They're likely to have a back four of Bellerin - Chambers - Holding - Monreal. Fancy Liverpool's wealth of speedy attacking talent to breeze past them on at least one occasion, so it'll come down to Cech saving 1-on-1s.

I think it'll be more than that. I seem to remember last season it was about 70K net transfers in for GW1 with 3M teams - Negredo is on about 13k at the moment. Of course, the threshold rules may have changed this year (FPL towers normally tweak the price rules a little) - but it does look like Negredo will be the first one to rise.

      🙂

I have both and can't praise Ramirez enough. However Townsend's underlying stats from yesterday and his performance as a whole suggest he may be worth holding on to - at least while his fixtures are kind.

Any word on why Siggy was benched - purely down to the Euros & expect him back for Hull, or something more sinister?

Surely just a case of easing him back in.

He should start again Hull. Suspect it was down to fitness. He's their main man-- well, only man.

Looking forward to last the few games 🙂

Valencia in the early game and Firmino later

    Hazard and Costa tomorrow 😎

52 so far with the above 4 to go

Not too bad. Capoue's 10 as 1st sub is a right pain to look at but would never considered playing him over any of my starters.

        You? 🙂

Pretty happy myself. 45 with 4 to go. Waiting for Ibra 😀

Team is in good shape for most of us i reckon.

Yeah Redmond getting off the blocks is a nice way to start the season

Might be able to bank that FT for next week, don't see many reasons to use it.... yet

Sorry for butting into this thread. At the moment a possible use of a first week FT is to replace Gray. If Liverpool and Chelsea look solid at the back, would you use that FT to bring in a different third striker?

Nice, what was your score Bow? Glad to be a part of the 17% that have Hazard! I've got Shaw and Ibra today, hoping for a good return.

        52

I'm terrified of Ibra today, hope he stays quiet. United being away is slight positive but 90 minutes will tell

52 with 4 remaining is a very good score Bows. I take it you got at least 2 clean sheets?

What are people's thoughts on Stones?

I'm thinking about swapping him for an Everton CB because they have brilliant fixtures.

Apart from Amat & Knightly, any other 4.0m defs started?

Annoyed with Amat YC, means price rise unlikely with everyone getting Knightly....

They will switch to Amat when Taylor is back and Knightly is benched, so dont worry
