Nathan Redmond has usurped team-mate Dusan Tadic as part of this morningโ€™s Watchlist refresh.

With the dust settled from the opening dayโ€™s action, weโ€™ve dipped back into the rankings for our daily re-assessment and promoted the former Norwich winger up the midfield standings.

Priced at just 6.0 and deployed as part of a front two by manager Claude Puel, Redmond appears to be our first priority in the mid-price.

The drop for Tadic is harsh. He was outstanding in the 1-1 draw with Watford and produced some performance statistics that suggest he will be a major Fantasy force over the campaign. We will keep monitoring his displays.

But Redmond got his goal and his own numbers were equally impressive: his potential and value is just too strong.

With Puel talking him up at every opportunity, it would be remiss to overlook his appeal at the expense of Tadic and also striker Shane Long.

Southamptonโ€™s fixtures will certainly test Redmondโ€™s output.

Puelโ€™s side must now face trips to Manchester United, Arsenal and Leicester. But St Maryโ€™s meetings with Sunderland and Swansea appear to provide the platform for the former Canary to go on producing.

He stacks up behind a cast of heavy-hitting midfielders but may well surpass some of that pack once the Gameweek 1 fixtures are complete.

Today we will be monitoring the performances of Roberto Firmino and Alexis Sanchez in particular.

Further down our list we saw Ross Barkley make positive strides having notched on the opening day once again.

Middlesbroughโ€™s Gaston Ramirez also consolidated his position as our midfield weapon of choice in Aitor Karankaโ€™s ranks.

Weโ€™re also showing patience with Andros Townsend. He demonstrated enough to suggest heโ€™ll be a key goal threat for Crystal Palace and his mid-term fixtures remain favourabe. He holds his position as another mid-price consideration.

Further down, Erik Lamela sneaks in to our reckoning. We will be debating his rank further this week, with Dele Alli already coming under pressure as the key target in Tottenhamโ€™s midfield ahead of their encouraging schedule.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Gray > Negredo just seems too solid a move for me to ignore. Plenty of reasons to keep Gray for sure, but I like to maximise value before Christmas, even taking a hit or two, and then clamping down after Christmas. Getting that 0.1 increase for a striker of equal favour before yesterday with continuing plum fixtures... has to be done imo.

I'm keeping for at least one more week... Think I'd prefer Rondon to Negredo though if getting rid now

The problem is at this stage iff the season, missing out on a 0.1 rise can make all the difference. In effect becomes 0.5. If you think you might want him, you have to move before the price rise.

Just going to put this out there. I watched the match yesterday and sure, Negredo was good, but not as good as people are making out. His movement was excellent, but he only had one shot (header) on target which was his goal and created one chance of note that I remember. On the other hand, Ramirez created 3/4 openings for other players, hit the post and the bar, is on set-pieces (FKs and corners), and had two good efforts himself.

Mate i've been trying to tell people this since yesterday. no one listens.. some bandwagons are created out of necessity more than fact. if redmond had flopped Ramirez would be a bandwagon.. because gray flopped negredo becomes one

        Ownership + Captaincy

So if a players' effective ownership is above 100% around your ranks and if he is not your captain, every point by him decreases your rank (Science bi+ch) - so you should pray for his failure even if he is in your team!

        1) Some teams in my Draft league aren't as strong. So I know players will be on their radars and if they make the move first I may miss out on a couple of season performers.

I'll post some semi-regular updates on Boro players as they seem good value this year (not at all biased here, ha):

Friend - The key defensive player. If Boro get a clean sheet (which we were unfortunate not to due to an excellent Shaqiri free-kick) Friend should get the BAPS. Yesterday was typical of his performance, lots of interceptions and tackles. However, this will probably change when Ayala returns.
Barragan - Right back but first proper game as CB and performed extremely well bar one poor backpass. He may usurp Nsue so be careful.
Downing - Avoid. He'll help protect Friend but I don't see him scoring much at all. Maybe the odd assist. At his price there's much better.
Ramirez - Brilliant performance and easily MOTM. On set-pieces, got the assist, worked extremely hard and a goal line clearance. If it wasn't for the YC he would have gotten some BAPS.
Fischer - Be very careful with this one. He had a fairly anonymous pre-season and Karanka usually likes to ease players in. I imagine for the time being he'll either play on the left or be brought on for Ramirez. The main worry is that he doesn't track back well enough yet and that's a major consideration for Karanka. Saying that, as a sub he could easily come off the bench and score so it's a real gamble atm.
Negredo - Looked excellent if a little tired towards the end. Led the line brilliantly and will be a handful this season. One of the best things about him is the class to bring others into play. Negative is we don't score much so I'd monitor before plunging.

Agree with all apart from Fischer's preseason

A goal and 3 assists in preseason and looked first choice. I was surprised to see him benched yesterday tbh but as you say Karanka must want to ease him in

      1. Okladomah
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

Fischer looked really raw to me. His major performance was against Villa where we looked deadly second half.
Karanka rarely brings players straight in. Even Rhodes last year was eased in with Nugent starting instead.
Fischer's best chance is the wing position either replacing Downing or Adomah. The problem is Fischer has a tendency to drift inside and it unbalances the team. He'd also offer little protection for the full-back. Boro work as a unit which is why I think Fischer will currently be brought on if we need a goal and a bit of magic.

Good question. Leadbitter has always been the number one penalty taker but he's out for awhile. Because of that I don't know! He's been ever present.
        I'd say Ramirez or Negredo.

I admit I didn't watch WBA, but if the ICT index is anything to base decisions off of, Rondon looks a better 6.5m option than Negredo, not to mention the Baggies have next two at home while Boro play twice away.

As for Redmond/Tadic, stings a bit to have Tadic this week but he was as involved as anyone yesterday, I still like him better going forward. Though, owning both may turn out not be such a bad thing.

    Gray yesterday...

9 touches in the box (4th highest of any player yesterday)
4 shots in the box (joint second highest)

    On pens

At home vs a ropey Liverpool defence next

Probably enough to give him at least one more chance if you own him.

At 6.5 you can't expect a goal a game, sadly.

6 shots (5 out of box, 1 inside penalty area) and 2 key passes. Isn't that better than what we signed up for?

His stats last season followed the same pattern. He is more appealing for assist potential. But with the lump that is Wickham currently up front, his assist potential suffers quite badly.
