Nathan Redmond has usurped team-mate Dusan Tadic as part of this morning’s Watchlist refresh.

With the dust settled from the opening day’s action, we’ve dipped back into the rankings for our daily re-assessment and promoted the former Norwich winger up the midfield standings.

Priced at just 6.0 and deployed as part of a front two by manager Claude Puel, Redmond appears to be our first priority in the mid-price.

The drop for Tadic is harsh. He was outstanding in the 1-1 draw with Watford and produced some performance statistics that suggest he will be a major Fantasy force over the campaign. We will keep monitoring his displays.

But Redmond got his goal and his own numbers were equally impressive: his potential and value is just too strong.

With Puel talking him up at every opportunity, it would be remiss to overlook his appeal at the expense of Tadic and also striker Shane Long.

Southampton’s fixtures will certainly test Redmond’s output.

Puel’s side must now face trips to Manchester United, Arsenal and Leicester. But St Mary’s meetings with Sunderland and Swansea appear to provide the platform for the former Canary to go on producing.

He stacks up behind a cast of heavy-hitting midfielders but may well surpass some of that pack once the Gameweek 1 fixtures are complete.

Today we will be monitoring the performances of Roberto Firmino and Alexis Sanchez in particular.

Further down our list we saw Ross Barkley make positive strides having notched on the opening day once again.

Middlesbrough’s Gaston Ramirez also consolidated his position as our midfield weapon of choice in Aitor Karanka’s ranks.

We’re also showing patience with Andros Townsend. He demonstrated enough to suggest he’ll be a key goal threat for Crystal Palace and his mid-term fixtures remain favourabe. He holds his position as another mid-price consideration.

Further down, Erik Lamela sneaks in to our reckoning. We will be debating his rank further this week, with Dele Alli already coming under pressure as the key target in Tottenham’s midfield ahead of their encouraging schedule.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Following on from my post about Redmond during preseason (http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2016/08/08/moving-target-jon-flanagan/?hc_page=2#hc_comment_13707407), I think yesterday was the best start we could have hoped for 🙂

Redmond got a bucket of chances yesterday, scoring twice (unfortunately one was offside). Below you can see the highlights of the 5 chances he had throughout the match.

    http://www.fullmatchesandshows.com/2016/08/13/southampton-vs-watford-highlights-2/
    - At 2:58 Redmond is central and hits it a few yards wide but has great space to hit it on his right foot.
    - At 3:30 we can see him on the left this time, cutting inside and trying to curl one into the bottom corner with his right foot, but for a great save from Gomes. This reflects on the quotes from Puel about Henry and how he wants to replicate this style with Redmond.
    - At 3:50 he gets a shot in the box and wins a corner. This time on his left foot.
    - At 4:02 from the resulting corner he gets it again in the box and scores with his left foot.
    - Lastly at 5:30 Redmond gets his 5th and final shot away on his left foot. Inside the box but horribly wide.

He has received heaps of praise after yesterday's performance and I think this was indicative of how Puel wants to use him over the season. 3 shots on his left foot and 2 on his right shows just how versatile he can be with the ball too.

Davis: "I’ve been impressed since he came in during pre-season. He works hard for the team and you can also see that he’s got that quality. He’s a threat, he can find spaces and he made a couple of good runs today, and I think he’s going to be a big asset for us this season. I think he’s admitted himself that he’s learning the new position as he’s used to playing a bit wider, but you can see that he’s obviously got good feet and can move the ball in tight areas, which is important. He can also go on in behind as well to mix it up for us so I think he’s someone who’s going to be a big player for us this year. We’re still adapting in terms of what the manager wants but the sloppiness in the first half was nothing to do with that, it was down to individual work and not moving the ball quick enough. But hopefully we put that right second half and hopefully we can learn from that to not let it happen again."

    http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/20160814-steven-davis-on-nathan-redmond-post-watford-3246082.aspx

Puel: “He’s a good striker. He can take space, come deep, create opportunities with his partners. He’s a good player and you could see in the second half he has also many situations where he can shoot more often. For his first game and at home, it was a good game.”

    http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/20160813-claude-puel-on-nathan-redmond-post-southampton-watford-3246289.aspx

        Tadic was very impressive tbh

Most touches in the box, but it's worrying that a player has that many touches and only 1 shot in the box. Seems like he prefers to create goals

Any other iwobi owners out there?
Could be tidy differential today. High scoring game I reckon due to weak defenses.

This year is my first FPL so I'm trying to figure out if I did good so far or not.

I have 46 points with Hazard, Valencia and Martial left for GW1. What should be a good average each GW?

Check the average. If say you have had a good week potential totally excellent if Martial smashes it

      That's very good so far.

50 is generally decent, 60 generally good but you really have to compare your score with the overall average or, more accurately, the average of scores on here.

Aim for at least 10pts above the average. You have a very solid score this week. It should be fairly obvious according to your overall rank against 3 million others.

    A)
    Foster - Forster
Francis - Funes Mori - Valencia - Fuchs - Paredes
    Townsend - Martial - Payet - Tadic - Ibe
    Kane - Giroud - Ighalo

    OR

    B)

Everybody is swooning over Negredo and I just don't understand it. He only had one shot (header) which was his goal. That's it. Ramirez looked far the better option from Boro - hit the bar, post, on set-pieces, saved one off the line, is £5.5m and plays behind the striker, if not level with him.

            Off topic but...

Anyone a bit confounded about all the Farah superlatives - BBC throwing words like "greatest" about?

Farah is a great championship runner but the fact remains that he has never been near to setting a world record. He is 28th all-time at 10k and 64th all-time at 5k.

Runners like Viren, Gebrselassie and Bekele won multiple Olympic golds, as Farah has. But they also broke world and Olympic records in doing so. I can't see that Farah, good as he is, belongs in that echelon.

Incidentally, it's not that the Rio track is slow, actually it is supposed to be a fast track. In fact the women's 10k world record was broken there only a few days ago.

World records in 10,000m are so dependent on how the race goes though and how fast the race runs which depends on tactics. Its not like 100m or 200m. Farah has to be one of the best because of how dominant he has been, he just never looks like losing a race

I don't have him, but given it's an easier fixture, I'd expect Alli in the pivot and Kane as the 10.

Could score well still of course, but it's not ideal.
