Gameweek 14 saw 512 fantasy managers do battle in the second round of the fifth Paddy Power Cup. The full list of results can be accessed by clicking right here. Read on for some of the highlights from the round…

In successive weeks we’ve now lost two former tournament winners, with Gooner dave biting the dust this time after losing 69 – 63 to DaFoe22. There was better luck for Jonty and Ninja_Fit_Saints, who progressed at the expense of Duggans Dreamteam (91 – 50) and 369 mofo (74 – 66) respectively.

Also heading into the third round is Mark, who came out on top in an epic 89 – 87 match with McEwan. He’s now the last remaining Scout after greek fan succumbed  79 – 76 to mvtaylor.

Round One’s top dog, Gulikgul, couldn’t recreate any of the magic from last week, as he crashed out embarrassingly 82 – 41 to Gorby. That was the seventh-worst score of the round, and even if he could captain his entire team he would’ve still been knocked out.

It was left then to elfortu to earn the top score this week, with an incredible 112 – thrashing chemikills (60) as a result. He was one of four fantasy managers notching a ton this week, along with theonefjef (107), This is hard 1 (107) and The Yassasinators (101) also reached the milestone.

Also through this week is bobbyg, who went into the second round as the highest-ranked fantasy manager in the competition and lived up to his billing as one of the early favourites. The now 50th in the world team ran out 76 – 70 winners against huma.

Congratulations to everyone making it through to the next stage, and commiserations to those exiting the competition at this moment.

The draw for the third round will be made and published on Thursday.

Hey guys really need some thoughts on this bunch

    Vorm Hennessey
    Kompany Richards Naylor Simpson Brown
    Ramsey VDV Bale Larrson Dyer
    Rooney RVP Klasnic Bank 1.2

Obviously want to get rid of one of my city defenders for Jones/Vermealen/Vidic but really not too comfortable with paying 6.4 for a defender (Jones) who could be rotated???

Klasnic- Bolton are terrible at the moment, but should I keep him for his home game against aston villa?

Ramsey - terrible form, but who is a viable replacement, short on ideas here???

If you are worried about rotation with Jones then I would look at Vidic or Vermaelen, having seen Vermaelen again last night he looks more likely to get goals and Arsenal have looked stronger defensively with him back.

Klasnic - Swap for anyone you can, if you can afford it go Ba/Sturridge if not Yakubu?

Ramsay is more difficult maybe do the above two first and wait another week on Ramsay?

      Richards/Kompany -> Smalling

      Then upgrade Klasnic to Ba

I'd look at Walters as a replacement for Ramsay. He's on pens, playing OOP, likely to play most/all games and pretty consistent. I'd recommend Sinclair also but I see you've got Swansea pretty covered already.

    Hi all..

    Current situation is:

    Given Kenny
    Jose Walker Saylor Evans Verm
    Drente O’hara Dyer Silva VDV
    RVP Ade Holliet

    Certain work needed.

Thinking Krul in for Given, Saylor out for Smalling/Jones.

Then depending on what happens tonight i am tempted by Welbeck or even Valencia..

    Some advise please guys:

    Howard Vorm
    Turner Simpson Jones Walker Wilkinson
    Ramsey Silva Bale Drenthe Allen
    Ba RVP Adebayor

Where should I make the transfer…have 4.1M in the bank:

    1) Turner to Vermaelen… Leaves me with 1.6M in the bank

    or

    2) Drenthe to Mata/Nani .. leaves me with 0.2/0.4M in the bank

Neither are good at the moment.

      1) Wait till after the City game
      2) I would wait a week till United show attacking form and Mata gets the city game out of the way.

Vermaelen. Might not get many clean sheets, esp away to City, but good for goals, assists and bonus points. In 2 weeks he'll be about 7m.

That hasn't caused him any problems for ages has it? Looking at his history, he started the season unfit, then moved into a few sub appearances, then a string of 70mins, then constant 90mins for the last 5 games.

Sturridge rotation threat is a bit of a myth imo. Usually the first to get subbed off in an emergency but he's started most of their games. But yeah I'd expect Ba to be safer.

I think Sturridge will definitely be involved in every game he is playing confidently and his main challengers (Kalou/Torres/Malouda) haven't shown enough to displace him I'm going to keep him for the forseeable and will wait until something suggests he's down the pecking order to change.

The only way I could afford Vidic would be to take hits, get Aguero out for Sturridge, but then that would give me enough money to upgrade Drenthe to Nani as well as Kompany to Vidic.

Seems a bit much maybe, quite likely to backfire.

Morning chaps... which would you do?

A: Ward> Vidic (I have Jones so would be doubling up)
    B: Drenthe > Nani

The doubts I have is whether Nani will play every game, Vidic is surely more nailed on and more likely to play every game over the Xmas period. Also, United look good for some decent amount of CS now Vidic is back.

Waiting on Drenthe is becoming a bit tiresome. Everton tell us nothing and Drenthe could always come back in for their DGW... but Nani hasn't scored a goal since September.

Those last 7 words makes me worried though....

I have no ManU cover, and for 4pt hit I'm considering Jones or Nani. Q is who has better change of recouping the 4pt hit?

Personally I like Vidic more than Jones, but i can't afford at the moment.

I'd be more tempted by Nani personally. Drenthe is starting to wear thin, two weeks he hasn't even been mentioned. A few people have muttered maybe there is something going on behind the scenes -I don't want to be holding on for someone who isn't coming back anytime soon. Wish we would hear something either way tbh.

I think doubling up on United is an excellent idea if you can do it. I've already got my funds wrapped up in Baines, Jones and Enrique as my defensive big hitters, and don't want to change that line up. For anybody considering Vidic, now is the time....

The thing is Shogan as he's away to Arsenal and has 2 very nice games coming up, I'm thinking of giving him 1 final GW .. if we still have no clue after Arsenal, then I'd ship him out for someone.

The more I think about it, the less I'm convinced about Nani. With my from 3 sorted so no need for Welbeck, I feel doubling up at the back with 2 defenders who can also nick attacking points is another angle.

I don't think Santos adds that much defensively. The worry is I'm not sure who they'll bring in that will.

Possible they'll move Vermaelen over to LB maybe? which would be good as a Vermaelen owner I guess.

Looking forward to tonight's Man Utd game. Not only is it set up to be a real nail-biter of a European tie but I will have my notepad out watching for some semblance of form from Rooney tunes. The plan had always been to do Aguero > Rooney this week and like Murdoch, I love it when a plan comes together.

Another blank from Rooney though and it looks like Aguero > Ba and Wilkinson > Vidic.

I may have to throw the playbook out the window then and sort out a very shabby defence with a hit. Defensive points (Jones) absolutely killed me in my mini-league this week.

Could be worse, I brought De Gea in for 'guaranteed starts' and he's missed 2 out of 3 games and conceded in the one he started.

That said, I may bring Evra in to double up on United's defence, Vidic normally starts every game but Utd have Evans/Jones/Smalling/Ferdinand who can all play centre half. At the moment there is no competition for left back.

vidic is as nailed on as they come

last season his minutes totalled about 35 league games and im sure he was injured/banned at some point

both are good shouts and will be in my team come lunchtime sat, but vidic over evra if faced with a choice imo

As I tend to play Vorm every game maybe Lindegaard is a good cheap no 2 goalie option.
Then you can stick him in as no 1 and if he plays thats a bonus, if not the mighty vorm is ready and waiting.

Personally I doubt Evans is much of a threat as he's shite.

So that leaves Vidic Ferdinand Jones Smalling. One of Smalling and Jones is gonna play RB leaving the other to rotate with Ferdinand as it's unlikely with injuries he's gonna play ever game over Xmas. I'd say that makes Vidic safe with Jones possibly playing in midfield on the odd occasion too.

Believe me, Ferguson has a hard on for Evans which speaking as a United Season Ticket holder is a constant worry!

Some good points put forward on the Vidic/Evra issue, I just think Evra has less competition for his place.

If they do both play though, it is clear that Vidic has the most points potential as he is a beast at set pieces.

    Awesome week for us continue.

    Gary Cahill to Chelsea 😀

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2070991/Chelsea-loan-Josh-McEachran-Bolton-Gary-Cahill.html?ITO=1490&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Chelsea are prepared to loan Josh McEachran to Bolton as a sweetener in an £7mllion deal for defender Gary Cahill.
The Trotters defender is expected to be sold in January with his contract due to expire in the summer, and the Blues have jumped to the front of the queue for his signature.
Andre Villas-Boas wants to pair Cahill with his England partner John Terry at the heart of the Chelsea defence.

Tottenham and Arsenal are also interested in the highly-rated centre back but Chelsea hope McEachran will be their trump card.
The 18-year-old midfielder has made just four appearances for Chelsea this season, and only one in the Premier League.
But he is seen as a future England star and is expected to be farmed out on loan in the New Year.

The two clubs have a forged a good relationship after Daniel Sturridge spent part of last season on loan at the Reebok Stadium.
The young striker has hit the ground running on his return to Stamford Bridge and is in line to be part of England's Euro 2012 squad.
Swansea have also expressed an interest in taking McEachran on loan.

If Cahill is that good why is he , nearly 26 , still with Bolton. If he was so good hy did Fergie not sign him in his teens like he signed Smalling and Jones. Lots of rumours about bigger clubs signing him but never signed. He has loads of potential but seems his legend grows the longer he does not play for a big club or his country.

Because he signed for Bolton at 22/23 after barely getting a chance at Villa.

Plus Bolton were quoting £20million for him even with one year on his contract.

Bolton quoted a lot of figures but no-one signed him. Was put out on loan at Villa cos they didn't think he was good enough for their squad. Look it, I think he's a good player, scores a few goals too. Just saying if he was as good as people rate him he'd be at a bigger club before now.

In fairness I don't think he's world class or anything, but is a good defender.

Villa may have sent him out on loan but Utd let Gerard Pique go for £7mil because we rated Jonny Evans above him.......

I done it last night to beat the VDV price drop. Gamble I know, but he's been showing signs of improvement over the last few (which his 2 bps at Villa last week are testament to). If he doesn't deliver over the next few gw's then I've got my sights on Mata as a replacement, but manure's fixtures make him to good an option to ignore for me.

Would you not prefer to spread your risk and get Vermaelen? I do prefer Vidic but 2 man u defenders may be a bit much.

      Vermaelen: 6.8 - 3 goals, 1 assist, 3 clean sheets for 49 points in 6 starts
Vidic: 7.8 - 0 goals, 0 assists, 4 clean sheets for 30 points 6 starts (played 51 minutes vs WBA but conceded before injury anyway)
I think Vermaelen definitely, considering the 1.0 savings aswell as you having Jones already.

Smalling at 5.2 will give you points thereabouts.

Do Vidic now, but consider bringing in Verm from gw18

Jack you're missing something very important here.... fixtures + CS potential.

Vidic's fixtures are much kinder overall than Arsenal's, plus Vermaelen's 3 goals in 4 games surely won't continue at that rate.

+1 but... He is 1m more expensive. Also the Smalling punt may not pay off because we can assume Evra and Vidic are nailed on. That's the 4 defensive spots, I think there will be more rotation than that, so too risky.

Arsenal still have very good fixtures though.
I like Vermaelen over Vidic mainly due to his points potential, the fact that he's cheaper, and double United could be risky if they go back to all out attack.

Since Vidic has returned though they've looked much stronger defensively.

True, but why not save 0.8 for Evra in that case?
Just as nailed on and seems good for an assist every now and then.

    Krul Vorm
    Simpson Olsson Vermaelen Walker Wilkinson
    Drenthe VDV Silva Ramsey Sinclair
    Sturridge RVP Hernandez

    2FT's

I'm going to bring in Welbeck for Hernandez depending on how Man Utd line up tonight. The only reason I'm dodging Rooney is because I want money in the bank to upgrade my midfield.

So A) Hernandez > Welbeck and 2FTs next week, probably Ramsey > Mata next week.
    B) Hernandez & Ramsey > Welbeck and Nani this week, probably Nani > Mata next week.
    C) Hernandez & Ramsey > Welbeck and Mata this week?

Worth it for a 4 point hit?

    Aguero / Ade / Shawcross -> Rooney / Ba / Vidic

Just saw that. Don't think taking Ade out for Rooney is a good idea yet. Unless he scores convincingly tonight! Make your decision tomorrow Iceman!

Yes I can afford that.. just don't feel comfortable going without a United attacker at Old Trafford against a leaky Wolves defence. Going to watch the United game tonight keeping a close eye on Rooney and Nani before I make the decision. Cheers FB!
