Sir Alex Ferguson has this morning ruled Nemanja Vidic out for the season with a knee injury.

The United skipper was stretchered off in Wednesdayโ€™s Champions League defeat in Basel and the injury, admittedly, did look a nasty one to those watching on.

At this morningโ€™s press conference ahead of the home clash with Wolves, Ferguson revealed:

“It’s not unexpected but it’s still bad news. We thought it was a bad one and unfortunately he’s out for the season. He sees the specialist on Monday to work out the progress of when he has his operation. It won’t be immediately as we have to let the swelling come down. It’s a blow.”

Thereโ€™s no denying Vidicโ€™s loss is a massive blow to Unitedโ€™s title challenge. A 6-1 defeat at home to neighbours City forced Ferguson to go back to basics in gameweek 10. A run of 4 clean sheets in the following five fixtures coincided with his captainโ€™s return from a calf problem and despite scoring just a single goal in each of their last seven games, United have been able to stay within touching distance of City at the summit.

Their defensive form, allied with a favourable run of upcoming fixtures, has seen many draft in members of the United back line, with Phil Jones, in particular, seeing plenty of Fantasy investment. While faith in the United defence will have been somewhat diminished by this news and transfer plans adjusted, there will still be plenty willing to reconsider alternatives.

With Rio Ferdinand established as a regular in the heart of defence once again, Fantasy managers will be hoping Jonny Evans comes to the fore, given the Irishmanโ€™s 4.4 price. Vidicโ€™s loss is likely to lessen their stability at the back to a certain degree and Evans, therefore, would not be much of a risk at that budget price. He played in nine of United’s first team fixtures, picking up four clean sheets.

Chris Smalling and Phil Jones also stand out, at 5.2 and 6.4 respectively, and offer more adaptability than Evans. Both have already played at right-back and centre half, with Jonesโ€™ central midfield duties also in his locker and may offer the greatest chance of game time over what is set to be a hectic festive period.

    Drenthe Owners...

Sticking and perhaps selling next week if he's still nowhere near the bench vs Arsenal

or sold / selling this GW?

Current midfield is Bale Walters Dyer Drenthe Silva and I'm not really seeing any midfielder that's interesting me this week, so thinking I may as well give Moyes another chance to patch things up with Drenthe.... I mean a chance for Drenthe to come back from injury ๐Ÿ˜‰

The mirror also says "Tottenham will gave fitness tests to Jermain Defoe (hamstring) and Gareth Bale (foot) before deciding whether they travel with the squad to face Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday."

Away to Arsenal I think is a good game to bench him and hope he gets enough game time to get him starting next week.

Trying my hardest to hang on to him in anticipation of the DGW, but it's becoming difficult to justify keeping him when he's not even in the squad every week. Like you say not a lot of other decent options at that price range so will probably hang on to him, hoping others don't and he becomes a nice differential when (and IF) he returns!

Well only 1.2% own him so don't see him getting much more ownership anytime soon.

Unfortunately he's popular in my mini-league, so hoping my rivals get impatient with him. I think as long as the rest of your bench is decent and you can field a good starting 11 he's worth hanging on to. DGW and wildcard coming up being the main reasons

              Krul - (Vorm)
              Kompany - Jones - Enrique - (N Taylor) - (De Laet)
              Bale - Pilkington - Silva - Walters - (Dyer)
              Rooney - RVP - Best

Now have 1 free transfer and 2.6m remaining.

Thinking or Rooney for captain and RVP vice captain?

Vorm on for Krul, and I'd skipper Van Purse Strings over Rooney. If u have the cash praps upgrade Pilkington next week and I reckon you've got a pretty solid unit

Yeah I was unsure about Newcastle at the back.

Would you keep Pilkingotn this week or get him ditched now? I would have 7.9 for a midfielder

Ade to Ba gives you and extra £1.8m (or so). That could be used to strengthen O'Hara/Barfa?

I'm tired of talking about people talking about differentials as being players not often selected on FFS... Here is a list of decent* differentials(less then 10% ownership):

    3.9% ownership - Vermaelen
    6.7% ownership - Mata
    3.9% ownership - Lampard
    3.6% ownership - Sessegnon
    8.0% ownership - Sturridge

To get a differential doesn't mean to get a player no one else thinks is decent on FFS! So go forth and get GOOD players! To be honest, even if they have less then 20% ownership you'll make up massive ground with them every week! ๐Ÿ™‚

*opinion may vary ๐Ÿ˜‰ especially on Lampard!
