With the international break nearly over let’s take a look back at Gameweek 3 to see how the 50 elite Fantasy Premier League managers that I’m tracking performed.

TRANSFERS

The veterans made an average of  1.42 transfers per team.  A key factor was that many took advantage of a saved transfer, with just 0.42 transfers made on average by these experienced managers in Gameweek 2. Just a couple of veterans took a hit in Gameweek 3.

Top players bought:

– Zlatan Ibrahimović (MUN): 48%

– Ross Barkley (EVE): 30%

– Erik Lamela (TOT): 10%

Top players sold:

– Jamie Vardy (LEI): 32%

– Roberto Firmino (LIV): 24%

– Harry Kane (TOT): 14%

CHIPS

Once again, teams who didn’t use any chips scored the most points. It will be interesting to see this statistic after Gameweek 4, as it is understood that many veterans currently have their wildcards active.

THE VETERANS’ TEMPLATE

* stats for top 10,000 players can be found here

If we look at the table above, it’s interesting to see that the veterans and the players who are currently in top 10,000 places have almost the same players. The only real veterans’ differential is Andre Gray from Burnley, but that may change after this week’s wildcards.

CAPTAINS

Like in Gameweek 2, almost every single veteran captained Sergio Aguero from Manchester City. His ownership amongst the veterans was 100% percent, and effective ownership in the last round an amazing 198%. With the Argentine facing a lay off through suspension the captaincy calls by the veterans will certainly be interesting over the next two Gameweeks. Aguero returns to action in Gameweek 6, and it is anticipated that most veterans will draft him back in straight away.

OVERALL RANKINGS

– Maximum points: 74

– Biggest rank improvements: 527,362 places

After Gameweek 3, the average overall position of all 50 veteran teams is 494,708 – 14,615 places better than after Gameweek 2. Among the Veterans, 56% gained a green arrow, while 44% saw red. The veterans’ average Gameweek 3 score was 46 points (after hits), which was higher than the top 10,000 average (42.6 points) amd the overall average (40.7 after hits). This was a good week for the veterans after a disappointing Gameweek 2.

BEAT THE VETERANS

The safety score for Gameweek 2 was 27 points. In total 29 players were eliminated, while 2,135 survived. Deep M had the highest score – 76 points.

Kavali `In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.`

In the next article I will publish two tables about veterans template: One for all 50 veterans and the other for only those who use their WC.

Cheers Kavali, one of my favourite articles each week. Good idea on general and WC tables next week, will be very useful indeed.

      3 options:

1: Williams, Lamela, Sanchez and Lukaku

      2. Williams, Barkley, Ozil and Diego Costa

      3. Baines, Barkley, Ozil and Giroud

      Which option and why?

        1.

Everton have some really really nice fixtures, defensively & attacking wise & after Lukaku's international exploits he could be about to reward owners. Sanchez is a great placeholder to use the Aguero funds & I'd sooner own him than Ozil or Costa. Giroud isn't showing any form either.

My measly 27 points has let us vets down. Sorry guys!

Hopefully the WC can correct matters...

I love this article btw, great work...

This might be a stupid comment but was the safety score for GW3 27? The article says GW2, but I thought GW2 was 35, and GW 1 was 41?

Yes the safety score for GW 3 is 27, not GW 2

Yup, 27 is safety score for GW3. I made a mistake in article.

I like bucking the trend. I was one of only 2 of the Veterans to take a hit in GW3 :-).

It would not be surprised at all if the non-WC Veteran teams points average was higher than those WCing. I say this as if I were to WC this week, I would be looking at fixtures in a few weeks time and not just GW4.

if veterans picked barkley on gw3, there's a good chance that lukaku wont be included in gw4, if they dont wc (doubling up everton seems like strange move)

i put my bet on veterans going for benteke/costa.

Thanks, love this article. Very useful for the ownership % for those of us that play that way. The wildcard and Aguero ban combination is going to shake things up, not looking forward to seeing all those Alexis owners. 🙁
