Romelu Lukaku breaks his six-month barren spell by taking it out on a beleaguered Sunderland back four. The Belgian’s second half blitz transformed Everton as Ross Barkley watched on from the bench having been hooked at half-time. Here’s the final Stock Check of Gameweek 4….

On the Rise

Romelu Lukaku
Without a goal in his previous 12 Premier League matches, Lukaku notched his first and then filled his boots as Sunderland caved in.

You could almost see the Belgian grown in stature and confidence and with Yannick Bolasie storming down the right flank, Lukaku was able to help himself to a hat-trick in just 11 minutes.

He could and should have had more – Lukaku registered nine efforts on goal, six of which hit the target – no player in any Gameweek this season has matched those statistics.

With Middlesbrough at home next, followed by meetings with Bournemouth and Palace, it would seem that Everton’s fearsome front man has found form just as the fixtures fall into his lap.

Should he return points against Boro, those who brought in Lukaku for Aguero may well face a difficult decision come Gameweek 6.

Yannick Bolasie
A barnstorming performance from the DR Congo winger terrorised the Sunderland defence which culminated in him laying on Lukaku’s second with a sublime run and cross.

While Bolasie’s 6.0 price tag looked a step too far at Palace, in this kind of form and with Lukaku converting his supply, it suddenly seems very tempting indeed.

The winger was replaced late on with a knock, although he appeared to be suffering from cramp.

Leighton Baines
Back to back clean sheets and two bonus points tonight, Baines is up and running without finding assists or converting a spot-kick as yet.

The aforementioned fixtures could offer further returns, with Koeman’s Everton looking far more secure and efficient than the version under Roberto Martinez.

In Decline

Ross Barkley
Koeman’s ruthless decision to hook an ineffective Barkley sent a sure-fire message that will have shook the midfielder’s 18.6% ownership.

Brought in by over 60,000 prior to Gameweek 4 ahead of Everton’s favourable schedule, it’s now clear that Barkley’s pitch time is far from secure – Koeman will not be as lenient as Martinez with an inconsistent Barkley.

Everton’s second half transformation without him certainly puts Barkley’s start against ‘Boro in doubt.

Mason Holgate
Owned by 7.1% and transferred in by no less than 180,000 FPL managers heading into the Gameweek, it nonetheless came as no surprise when the 19-year-old gave way to Seamus Coleman.

It was convenient while it lasted but Holgate’s opportunities will now be limited at best. Even if Koeman switches to a three-man defence, he would seem unlikely to earn starts.

Patrick van Aanholt
The Dutchman stuck to his guns against a lively Bolasie in the first half but bizarrely, with Bolasie swapping flanks, he struggled in the second 45.

Caught out of position on numerous occasions, he may yet come under threat, although Moyes’ options appear limited.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is a team with no Ibra just too greater risk.

      It's definitely an option

      Kane
      Costa
      Luka

Are all amongst the goals and over the course of the season are likely to around a similar points tally

Well my WC draft for next week is Aguero, Luk and Benteke. Allows me for a very decent midfield and well balanced defence.

On the weeks Ibra hits a blank I could be swarming up the leagues...
But if he hits double figures and my front 3 do nothing, it could be carnage.

Watford fixtures and so good of Cap keeps doing it. Lukaku just got me out of a huge hole but still do t trust him. Look at fixtures of Palace and Stoke too. Bony and Tekkers have done it before and would free you up nearly 2 mil. Losing Haz maybe crazy but I am considering it too.

It's an option on the table. Yeah, dropping him is mad. It's a variant to use Capoue every week.

Not sure risk of rotation, he seems to be a Klopp favourite. I'd definitely prefer a Firm/Mane or Cout. They will score more points over the season.

Klopp loves him. He delivers the points. He's got better underlying stats compared to the other mids. Pool fixtures from gw6 is bonkers.

I've had a lot of good advice on this site before, but the "group think" that it creates is sometimes detrimental too - it often creates fear. Next time I'll have faith in myself and back my instincts.

Decent, I like your faith in Tadic I still think he's a good option and I still have him but after this GW I'll be getting rid just cos of fixtures. I'd maybe have Cazorla there instead.

Or Tadic -----> snodgrass and use the 1.7 to go deeney to tekkers/bony and the rest to upgrade your defence

Lads, who is the greatest priority to get rid? WCing next week so looking to take a one week punt for one of the following:

    A) Ramirez (Sterling, Eriksen?)
    B) Barkley (Sterling, Eriksen?)
    C) Gray (Benteke, Lukaku?)

Leaning towards A but keen to hear some thoughts 🙂

Ramirez to Eriksen looks good. But why not just WC this week and leave cash itb for Kun?

Not the worst call but it would deprive me of a trannie and would also mean some of the players I'm looking to bring in have poor fixtures this week.

Further, I think I need one more week of information given the lack of funds and sacrifices I'll have to make. That said, one more week may leave me with more questions than answers! 😀

        Cheers mate

Fair call, I would just be looking to ship all 3 of the above players asap is the thing. I really didn't expect Barkley to be hooked at HT, that changes a lot imo. The massive fixture swing in GW6 coupled with Kun's return make do make it a great option so fair enough. Hopefully you get a bit of luck this gw

Looks like we're in the same boat Nick.

      Horror show week.

Burnley look quite toothless, I've made it a priority to ship him this week 🙂 for iheanacho probably as I too am WC-ing in GW6.

Iheanacho. Nice. Hadn't thought of him 🙂

I'm not too keen on Ramirez though, although he'll more than likely start, Everton seem pretty tight the back now. Middlesborough hardly score many and Gaston has been a little disappointing performance wise after GW1
