With a busy Christmas schedule ahead, this is the last opportunity of 2011 for us to rinse through the fixture list. Soak up the final “Frisking” of the year then, as we welcome in gameweek 16.

The Strong

Man United

It’s ironic that, with City offering United a chink of light and with fixtures falling nicely for Alex Ferguson’s side, they currently have their defensive rock and penalty box predator sidelined with injuries. While United will clearly miss the services of Nemanja Vidic and Javier Hernandez, Fantasy managers will still be purring over the assets that remain.

The weekend’s 4-1 dismantling of Wolves at Old Trafford showed the intent – with Vidic out, Ferguson may well be opting to go for the jugular. Goals could well be on the agenda and there’s little doubt that the Christmas programme of fixtures offers Untied every assistance possible.

Trips to QPR and Fulham up next, may slow them slightly, but home encounters with Wigan and Blackburn point to heavy profit for the likes of Wayne Rooney and Nani. Expect big investment, price rises and increased expectation on Ferguson’s attacking players. Defensively meanwhile, Phil Jones will go on acquiring new owners. Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling will also tempt buyers who will hope that United can muster clean sheets, even without Vidic in the ranks.

Newcastle

The Magpies look good in the short-term. The next three fixtures have them host Swansea and West Brom, while a trip to Bolton beckons on Boxing Day. With Alan Pardew patching up his defence, investment in that area will rightly slow somewhat. Although Ryan Taylor, with a major goal threat from set-plays, always offers potential.

It’s in attacking terms that Newcastle will be expected to prosper. Demba Ba has delivered consistently all season, while Yohan Cabaye has shown flashes – Hatem Ben Arfa also has the talent; we await the explosion and the inevitable bandwagon.

Newcastle’s kind run of opponents ends in gameweeks 19 and 20 with Liverpool and United en route, but we should see profits up until Boxing Day at least.

Everton

With a double fixture to come in gameweek 20, Everton are already in the minds of watchful Fantasy managers. There’s also the opportunity for early investment. Everton’s run of opponents over Christmas gives them a nice run-up to their double fixture, starting with back-to-back home games with Norwich and Swansea. Trips to West Brom and Sunderland then follow – all opponents which should afford David Moyes’ side an opportunity to earn goals and league points.

Selecting Fantasy assets remains a problem however. No doubt we’ll see a scramble for mid-price prospects like Marouanne Fellaini, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell come gameweek 20 – probably the only time this year that trio will be treated to such attention. Similarly the fragile Tim Cahill and Louis Saha may enjoy some investment for those looking for something a little more explosive.

Phil Jagielka remains a prospect at the back, but there’s no doubt that Leighton Baines is the crown jewel. So integral to Everton’s attacking play, Baines is a big expense but also, potentially, a huge differential over the next month.

Tottenham

Like Everton, Spurs will enjoy huge investment prior to gameweek 20’s double fixture. Unlike the Toffees, they already have a rich array of talent to warrant such attention. Indeed, leading into the Christmas programme, it’s difficult to imagine too many Fantasy managers without either Gareth Bale, Emmanuel Adebayor or Rafael Van der Vaart nestled in their squad.

We’ve talked at length about the profits on offer from Harry Redknapp’s vibrant attack – Sunday’s defeat at Stoke was a setback but, once again, Tottenham’s goal threat was on show.

Prior to the gameweek 20 double, Spurs host both Sunderland and Chelsea over the next two gameweeks. The latter promises to be a battle royale, with both London sides in the mix for the title race. Trips to Norwich and Swansea then follow, leading into the double with West Brom and Everton.

It’s hard to see Spurs failing to notch one or more goals in any of those games – Stoke needed arms, legs and dubious decisions to keep them out on Sunday. Those holding Spurs assets, or contemplating new acquisitions, will surely earn profits going well into the New Year.

Chelsea

Andre Villas-Boas has restored belief down at Stamford Bridge and last night’s victory over City has pushed them back into contention. The timing is perfect. Chelsea’s fixture list seems set to offer them the platform to exert further pressure on the top two, with an away trip to Spurs in gameweek 17 their only real test in the next seven gameweeks.

Fantasy managers should be on alert. Trips to Wigan and White Hart Lane come next but, following that, three home games in four, with Fulham, Villa and Sunderland at the Bridge, offers Chelsea the opportunity to boost the goal difference column.

Daniel Sturridge is sparkling in his wide right role, providing consistent returns to warrant the modest 6.9 FPL price tag. Similarly, Juan Mata has shown consistency on the opposite flank and is pushing for inclusion in our midfields. There’s even a pull towards the Chelsea defence – previously so unreliable, there are now real shoots of progress, with three clean sheets in the last five. John Terry, with four goals and 14 bonus points to his name, remains an expensive but seemingly consistent attraction.

Also consider…

Liverpool – epitomised by the stuttering returns of Luis Suarez, Kenny Dalglish’s side have failed to deliver profits on a regular basis. Kind away trips to Villa and Wigan, with a home clash with Blackburn, hints that it may be worth keeping the faith.

Stoke – two testing away days beckon for Tony Pulis’ men but, following that, they are treated to Villa and Wigan at the Britannia in gameweeks 18 and 19. With tails up after the Spurs win, Stoke’s squad could yet deliver going into 2012.

Wolves – Mick McCarthy’s side have the fixtures over the next four gameweeks to dig themselves a foothold in mid-table. Home games with Stoke and Norwich over the next two could define their season, with the likes of Jamie O’Hara and Steven Fletcher warranting a passing glance as a result.

The Weak

Wigan

Two consecutive away wins have eased the pressure on the Latics and Roberto Martinez, with Victor Moses at last delivering returns that his performances this season have promised. Fantasy managers will remain cautious however, as Wigan embark on a run of games that will threaten to root them in the bottom three.

Chelsea visit the DW Stadium this weekend, off the back of their win over City, with Liverpool next to park up. The Latics then take the trip to Old Trafford, before making their way to the Britannia. An intimidating run, that promises little Fantasy profit and Premier League points.

Aston Villa

The win at the Reebok was a vital result for Alex McLeish. He will have been all too aware of the consequences of another setback given the fixtures in front of his side over Christmas.

Villa will go into the home clash with Liverpool this weekend without the threat of Gabby Agbonlahor, his suspension will lead to another round of FPL sales as Fantasy managers lose faith with the fleet-footed striker who has struggled to maintain goalscoring form. Darren Bent also remains largely overlooked, and with Arsenal, Stoke and Chelsea to follow the Liverpool clash, there’s little chance of that situation changing.

Fulham

Martin Jol’s side continue to frustrate. Three points against Liverpool hinted at a revival; only for them to waste an opportunity at Swansea with Clint Dempsey seeing his spot-kick saved. Defeat on Saturday left the Cottagers dangerously near the relegation dogfight, with a fixture list that threatens to drag them into the mire.

The home clash with Bolton this weekend will be vital – with United and Chelsea providing their next opponents. An away trip to Norwich welcomes in the New Year, completing a quartet of matches that will likely see Fulham struggle for clean sheets.

Also be wary of…

West Brom – two tricky away trips to Blackburn and Newcastle, ease the Baggies into a home clash with City on Boxing Day – a spell which promises little defensively, with pressure on Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie to produce up front.

QPR – Neil Warnock’s side will face a confident United this weekend with Sunderland, buoyed by the arrival of Martin O’Neill, next at Loftus Road. Away trips to Swansea and Arsenal then follow in what looks to be a decidedly tricky Christmas party.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Need more opinions before price changes take effect. My midfield is currently Silva, Bale, Larsson, Walters and Dyer. Which of the following transfers should I do?

    1) Larsson -> Nani (freebie)
    OR
    2) Walters -> Nani (freebie)
    OR
    3) Dyer -> Valencia (freebie)
    OR
    4) Dyer and Kompany -> Nani and Shotton/Wilkinson (4 point hit)

    Thanks!

I love him as a player, not convinced in the FPL yet. I would rather have Sturridge up front. He's a lot cheaper and I think he will score more goals whereas Mata drops deeper more often. If he's on penalties that's a massive +, but we don't know yet.

Contemplating a 4 point hit which would involve VDV, Suarez and Sinclair out for Nani, Ba, Bale/Mata. Team linked. Edging towards Bale over Mata because a)Bale highly unlikely to be rotated, dgw and b) Sturridge would cover Chelsea coverage if I swap out Ba in GW18. Thoughts? Team linked

    Suarez, Aguero, RVP

    1. Ekotto & Suarez out for sturride and leighton baines
    2. Sessegnon & Suarez out for sturridge & cahill
    3. Sessegnon & Suarez out for Drogba & Ohara

I really like the idea of number 1, Baines can offer some serious fantasy points, four great gameweeks and then the double gameweek & if i fancy i can put in a cheeky wee spurs number and everton number then aswell and give myself good hopes!

He's playing in the reserves and getting numerous first team oppurtunities. That not good enough? He plays for his country too. Romeu wasn't playing in Barcelona's first team either but look how he's turning out. And Drogba can play in the front *one* but he wont be around for ever. Torres is set to leave in Jan, Sturridge plays on the right, not centrally, Mata on the left and Malouda on the left, but isn't a regular, Lukaku is essential for squad depth. Kalou plays on the right but is also set to leave. We need him, under a different manager I may agree with you, but with AVB in charge, the best place for his development is here. He's still young too, I dont think AVB is neglecting him, do you even watch our reserve matches? I assume no.

Drogba was a late blosomer. But he came under the radar.

Lukaku was on everybodys radar at 15. Lukaku is pure potential, but he has credentials with top scoring in belgian league, making int debut at young age etc.

If he goes, then thats what AVB wants. Therefore it is correct. Also, you can buy a player then loan him out but only if he doesn't play for you first in that same window, like we did with Courtois.

Lol, Vela is even a flop on Fifa. But, seriously, no WUMming, you don't rate Eduardo Vargas? Looks a lot better than Vela, scores more goals than Sanchez and is very consistent. Just odd that you would choose to ignore that for the sake of a good ol' trolling session. 🙁

So, resident Chelsea fans, if the plan really is to cut their losses and ship Torres in January, do you think a replacement will be brought in and if so, who? I've slacked a bit with my rumour reading, don't know who the targets are.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Falcao, despite his summer move.

Why are you so certain Torres will be sold anyway? It's only the Daily Mail, no? A £30m loss on a player in one year is staggering.

I think AVB has a real eye for a player. I'd like Torres to go, don't care about the £ loss and I doubt Roman does either. I think *if* he does go though, then of course a replacement will be brought in, and is likely to be a ready made striker and not one for the future. Cavanni would be good, Falcao even more so. I don't think it has to be an out and out centre forward either, Hazard, Lucas, Ganso, Lavezzi would all be good but are a tad optimistic. If, we ship out Torres, I'd settle for Hooper. 😉 No idea tbh, I have faith in AVB, best manager in the Premier League- already a Legend.

I'm going to brush aside your "best manager" statement and focus on the unjust use of the word "legend".

How exactly?? From what I've seen he just cries about the media and thinks he's the shit. José could pull it off, Sir Alex can pull it off, even Dalglish (though unbearable) has a reason. He should probably win something/be here for more than six months first.

In desperate need of some help before the price rises/falls guys,

    currently have:

    Schwarzer Westwood

    Enrique Jones Kompany Brown TaylorS

    Silva Nani Drenthe Brunt Moses

    RVP Gervinho Bendy

    0.2m in bank..

    Should I:

A Take a 4 pt hit and get 2 out of- Taylor, Bendy, Drenthe- out?
B Get rid of Gerv and Bendy for Sturridge and Ba before the price rises, leaving me 1.6m in bank
C Take an 8 pt hit to get rid of Bendy+ Gerv+ Taylor-> 4.1m or less DEF, Adebayor + Ba
    D Any other option

If you need to catch up in youre league then do B. Keep the 1.6 for DGW planning. I would never take an 8 point hit. S Taylor needs to go but you can do that next week as you have cover. Drenthe - take a breather and see what the news on him is as they have good fixtures

Ya I'm 150 behind a crap player in minileague.. Confident I'll catch him, his luck can't stay with him all season! That's what I've been thinking all week, but not having Adebayor's been killing me the past month or so. Drenthe's frustrated the bejesus out of me, I got him in for 1 game and he's been out since and god knows what's happening, but I suppose it's no real harm to hold onto him with nice fixtures and DGW. Cheers 🙂

-8 paid off handsomely for me this week with Brown/Ramsey/Hernandez OUT Jones/Nani/Sturridge IN with an overall score of 70 after hits, it can work, and it's all about the timing.

In this case I personally think there is little to lose with a big hit, if Bendtner is confirmed out, you have a net loss of 8 on the three players (as they are all getting 0 and you are losing 8), so all you have to do is make 8 or more back over three players to gain. With all the price rises right now, and some positive fixtures for Ba and Sturridge, I think it's a go!

For STaylor I'd definitely get a cheapie, I think you have overinvested in defenders. I think option C is your best choice here. If you rather want an expensive midfielder Sturridge whould present the same value a Adebayor.

How many FPL teams still holding onto the Spurs attacking triad - VDV, Bale and Adebayor?

With decent fixtures, including a double (home) gameweek on the way, is the triad worth holding on to, or does VDV need to go asap?

I don't know the number of teams still holding on, but I think I am. VDV just had a rusty game coming back from his injury, he's a key player for Spurs and will soon be banging them in again.

Defoe has had a ridiculous hype on here for having 2 decent games in VDV's absence, I don't see him as a long term threat.

They're only worth holding if their form allows it.

With Nani/Mata/Silva all viable options at VDV's price coupled with the fact that they don't have health issues, I would probably spread the team out a bit. If I were you, I'd do VDV -> Nani/Mata.

Yeah. I'm not trying to be elitist here or so but keeping it with 32 has advantages too, it gives us more chance go have an overview of the other groups and a bigger sense of playing a part.

I think a more interesting idea is to arrange double meetings, that could really make for some good rivalry and the chance for a great comeback as well

They had enough chance to beat the high spread I chose but over-elaborated and were dodgy in their finishing. Would probably take the bet again with the same team.

I'm enjoying it so far but it is a bit of work, a 64 team version depends on just how much work it turns into and whether we can fit it in before the end of the season. Basically if the timing works it depends on how much of a ballache this one is to manage.

Luddite - someone who shuns technology (in this case twitter)
Only 1 player out of the 32 entrants into the cup does not use twitter. I didnt post any information on this site about the tournament, just on twitter. So if you use twitter there is much more of a chance of you finding out about the tournament and entering in time

    Simpson, Enrique, Ekotto/ Wilkinson/Taylor (Swa)

    Suarez, Aguero, RVP

    1. Ekotto & Suarez out for sturride and leighton baines
    2. Sessegnon & Suarez out for sturridge & cahill
    3. Sessegnon & Suarez out for Drogba & Ohara

I really like the idea of number 1, Baines can offer some serious fantasy points, four great gameweeks and then the double gameweek & if i fancy i can put in a cheeky wee spurs number and everton number then aswell and give myself good hopes!

    Any ideas would be grateful

Easily number 1 for me. Baines might fall in price actually, keep monitoring that.

Want to do these transfers this week, need to do it tonight:

    Bendtner to Ba
Ramsey to Jarvis (Need this transfer to fund the other).

It leaves me with this team this gw:

    Schwarzer (Ruddy)

    Jones, Baines, Simpson (Ward, Ntaylor)

    Silva, VDV, Sinclair, Jarvis (Moses)

    RVP, Ade, Ba

    How does it look?

really like the idea of baines, i am putting him this week because i can see him making alot of points in the enxt four gameweeks

Your team for this gameweek is the best i have seen! Ba perfect, RVP perfect, Ade always a good shout, Jarvis, wolves got great two games, Sinclair the weak link, VDV bang on, Silva mr consistent, Defence all set for cleansheets hopefully!

Ha, thanks! Also most of my team has 2 home games in a row which I think will help me save the transfer next week and have two for 18 when things turn again. I agree on Sinclair, maybe I should put him on the bench for Ward?

i think either or could be the same, Ward sticks out for me considering how god newcastle have been at home! but keeping him wouldnt be too much of a dent to our team, all he really needs is an assist

    Ok I am going bite the bullet and wildcard this week, any suggestions on players I must get;

    Krul Vorm
    Simpson Robinson Baines Bosingwa Warnock
    Sessegnon Bale Pilkington Murphy Moses
    RVP Aguero Suarez

    Thanks!

bosingwa out straight away, get in walker or enrique, murphy for walters, upgrade moses to a cabaye or something and then keep the rest for the moment, sessegnon is cheap and offers the extra point for being out of position! team pretty strong, youve done well to not wild card this long

Robinson, Bos, Warnock, Pilk, Murphy, Sess needs to go if you're on a WC imo. Load up with Spurs attacking players, United, Liverpool defenders (Enrique)

You may need to consider letting go of Aguero at this point to free up funds. Ba is a good shout upfront as are Sturridge and Ade. If you go with the cheaper option you can think of another big mid instead of Murphy. Keep Simpson, consider jagielka instead of Baines and work from there.

Agree. Either Aguero or Baines has to go, I'd pick Aguero at the moment.

disagree, jones yes enrique know, evertons next four gameweeks are very tempting for baines, remember baines is on all set pieces, if theres any time he is going to gain points its over this period without a doubt!

ok I have Vorm (new) and Westwood (tot) as my keepers. Have decided to take Westwood out for Hennessey, but having already done Brunt- Nani the question is do I do it this week and take the hit or gamble on playing Vorm vs Ba as my captain or Westwood against Bale and VdV and do it for free next week. I have 5.1 on a keeper, but can't get Krul

that is what I was thinking, was thinking of waiting until GW18 and putting Sorensen in, but I'm not sure that I trust Westwood away at QPR, so may look for Hennessey at home vs Norwich. Any thoughts on that, or on another keeper?

Stick with Westwood, O' Neills new regime should see a few cleanies. Id hang in there till WC ,,,very rare to get big return from Keeper, even cleanies are hard to come by this season from the likes of Stoke in home games or even the big 4/5 no matter where they are playing. Surely over xmas u will need tfs for more important areas.

prob Westwood, i have vorm and Ruddy and prob BA (c) so very similar. Altho if BA has a saved pen by vorm at least you will have some tax back. I wouldnt worry about it too much, it really is a coin toss but not worth a hit to change.

hmm might well be an 11:25 on Sat morning call, Swans not great away (hence why I captained Ba) but I need Bale and VdV to perform. Still I suppose at some point you're bound to run into this sort of problem. Will try not to to change keepers until WC (aim to do nothing next week all being well, so if things work out I may have a transfer going spare anyway that I can use)

Walcott? what drugs are you smoking? Mata nani and silva are about 1.5 million more and VDV for that matter, for adams price and run of games you wont get a better price than 8.8

I think he's a good bet if you want a midfielder to watch in Liverpool matches with the potential to score points. Personally I'd rather have Bale, VDV, Nani and Silva of the pricey midfielders

    Enrique, Jag, Jones, Simpson
    Silva, Bale, Walters
