With over 73,000 transfers out since Friday evening’s deadline, the Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.5) fire sale is gaining momentum.

From Gameweek 1-4, the Manchester United frontman blazed a trail and found the net on four occasions as Fantasy Premier League managers clambered on board the bandwagon.

In the past three league matches, which coincides with Marcus Rashford’s (6.9) return to the first XI, he has garnered just one assist.

As Jose Mourinho begins to solve the puzzle of how to integrate all the attacking talent at his disposal, Zlatan’s role appears to be changing. He’s becoming more of a front man around which the pace of Rashford and Jesse Lingard (5.7), the guile of Juan Mata (7.4) and the surges of Paul Pogba (8.3) can thrive.

All well and good, but do you really want to have 11.5 tied up in someone taking it for the team?

Let’s get one thing straight. Parting company with a player still owned by over 51% of FPL managers is by no means an easy call to make.

Over the last three Gameweeks, he is the top-ranked forward for attempts on goal (16), shots inside the box (12) and efforts on target (seven).

Those are hardly the statistics associated with an out-of-sorts striker.

Yet with back-to-back trips to Liverpool and Chelsea up next, it’s no real surprise to see so many looking for alternatives up front.

Costing 11.9 as recently as Gameweek 5, his price dropped 0.4 in two rounds of fixtures. With an international break now upon us, Ibrahimovic could feasibly be sitting at 11.2 by the time United make their way to Anfield a fortnight this evening.

Recent weeks have seen the veteran drop to fifth in the forward standings, with Diego Costa (10.0) and Romelu Lukaku (9.4) moving into the top two slots.

The former has scored or assisted in six of his seven appearances under Antonio Conte and Lukaku has bagged five goals and an assist in five starts for Ronald Koeman.

Despite missing two matches through suspension, Aguero also sits above the Swede – the Argentine is also the top forward for points per match, with an average of 7.8 some way ahead of Ibra’s 5.3.

With so many appealing mid-price picks in the centre of the park, Ibrahimovic’s budget would go a long way to help strengthen our options.

Swapping him out for Lukaku, for example, would more or less free up the budget to draft in Tottenham’s in-form Heung-Min Son (7.6) for Etienne Capoue (5.2) as a fourth midfielder.

In a weekend where we saw the likes of Alexis Sanchez (11.2), Roberto Firmino (8.4), Michail Antonio (7.3) and the aforementioned Son all lead the line for their respective clubs, there’s plenty of out of position potential to target.

Yes, Ibrahimovic still leads the way in total attempts, shots in the box and attempts on target after seven Gameweeks.

For many, that will be more than enough to hold in spite of the inevitable price drop.

The underlying numbers clearly suggest Zlatan could very well burn any sellers.

Yet bearing in mind that 11 midfielders have bettered Ibrahimovic’s tally of 37 points already, parting company while his stock plummets and cannily reinvesting the cash elsewhere doesn’t seem such a radical idea.

Can I yet your opinion on my team please?

    Heaton pickford
    Valencia williams amat evans collins
    Mane firmino iwobi antonio capoue
    Aguero costa benteke

    3.1m itb

Iwobi --> son seems logical but that leaves me without arsenal coverage which is a very bad idea so maybe upgrade to Walcott?

Also collins has got to go.. thinking walker, rose, maybe smith?

    Cheers

I think their trigger happy policy on managers might get the better of them this season.

Writing was on the wall before the first game was played imo, especially sealed after selling ayew and Williams

Typical of the PL these days. The fear of relegation and loss of the TV money makes too many chairman trigger happy when it comes to sacking

Terribly harsh, especially when you look at the sides Swansea have played thus far. The last five weeks they've gone to Leicester and Southampton. Then had Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City to deal with at home.

Which do you prefer for a -4:
    A) Valencia, Antonio, Ibra > Bellerin, Sanchez, Austin
    B) Valencia, Antonio, Ibra > Kosc, Sanchez, Deeney
    C) Valencia, Capoue, Ibra > Bellerin, Sanchez, Diomande (to bench)

Should I hold over the break? I'm worried about:
      - Risers: Son, Walcott etc
      - Possible Fallers: Collins, Antonio, Redmond

      Heaton (Foster )
      Valencia Stones Adams (McAuley ,Collins)
      Sanchez Firmino Antonio Redmond (Capoue)
      Kun Benteke Lukaku

Yeah, they don't. Which is why they're a good differential IMO. Only team you would've expected them to keep a CS against so far when they've failed is Hull.

I think doubling up is more rewarding than risky. Risky to have just 1 when they're scoring a lot of goals and you don't know/can't predict where they're going to come from each week?

Austin vs Burnley at home could be a major haul - The two times burnley have been away this season they lost 3-0, and against leicester and chelsea who haven't particularly been great. Austin is on a streak, yes he didn't score this GW but should really have had at least 2

Not bad. The arsenal defence is frustrating we were all fairly confident they were going to score well a few weeks ago but getting them in is hard with the amount of money needed in the front 8.

behind them I have £22.5m to spend across 5 defenders

Similar. My defence needs strengthening though, going Valencia to Clyne next week but team is ok, would also prefer Holebas to Kone. No Arsenal defender is an issue.

              Heaton (Robinson)

              Kone, Pieters, Amat, Valencia, Smith

              Sanchez, Son, Sterling, Firmino, Capoue

Have Payet and Snodgrass over Son and Sterling (and 2 FT). Might have to take a hit and downgrade Coleman to 4,3m def or Walker to 4,7m def to bring Son and Sterling in. Not worth it IMO.

Obviously value is important and has done me over come crunch time the last couple years so I've gone for making transfers early this year to avoid falls and catch rises, worked out so far with no injuries and currently valued at 103.4 and sat around 100k, which I'm happy with given ml standings.

My question is, am I taking unnecessary risks by making transfers early especially during international weeks such as this and have I just been lucky to avoid injuries this far?

2 FT's and looking to offload Shaw (played AOA last week otherwise would've sold him then)

Koscielny vs Monreal - what's the consensus?

Already own Walker and Williams, so it would be a fairly expensive backline. Choose one of the Arsenal defenders or downgrade to 5.0m - if so, best replacement? At least the next 6 weeks or so

              Current team

              Jaku Pickford
              Holebas Coleman Walker MKelly Amat

0,0m in bank and 2 FT.

IF all my players get back fit from the international break I was thinking one of these options:

              A. Jaku to Grant (to use at least one transfer and have 2 playing goalkeepers for the coming weeks)

              OR

              B. Walker and Coleman to Lovren and Koscielny (to exploit Arsenal and L'pool kind run of fixtures)

i wouldn't waste a transfer on a GK unless Pickford is injured.

Yeah, but I have to use 1 transfer or otherwise I will miss one. Don't need any changes so might as well use it to swap out Jaku for Grant, gain 0,1m in the progress and have 2 playing GK's for the coming weeks!

Will hold out til after the break unless their prices move, but what do you think of Antonio > Alli?

              Foster - Pickford
              Valencia - Williams - PVA - Amat - Evans
              Sanchez - Sterling - Firmino - Antonio - Capoue
              Aguero - Defoe - Benteke

£1.1 ITB so just enough for Antonio > Alli as is. Suppose I could do Son and keep the cash but I'm quite happy with Tekkers and Defoe with a strong midfield. D could use a tinker but not yet

Ultimately a few who weild the pen/keyboard set off a domino effect which convinces a lot of people that everyone else is selling certain players and buying others. With regards to this, the daily stockcheck articles are not very good. A gw split into 2 or 3 articles results in over-magnification of a single week's performance.
People on here need to reassess their strategies. The benefits of holding onto players who have good underlying numbers has very good examples in the first 7 GWs itself. Granted, some like Redmond have continued to fail, but put into the context of the team's performance as well, it seems to me that the best option is to hold onto players with good individual stats and team stats.

Knee jerking and bandwagons have always been part of FPL. Seldom do I take any notice which is paying off for me this season

I take it you're holding onto Ibra. It's the price drop and poor fixtures which are pushing people overboard.

at the end of the day, it's about who gets points. 1's and 2's will not suffice no matter how many attempts on goal a player has

I will be definately holding onto my players for now, price rise or no price rise we are 13 days away from the next game week. Players on international duty have at best 2 games to play in-between. Risk of injury and taking points hits at this stage is just not worth it.

Chadli will probably score against his old club, I'd keep. If you have no second keeper that is playing then could make that move but Grant is only in short term where as Pickford....

Need help with price changes imminent!

              (A) Ibrahimovic/Chadli --> 6.7m/Sanchez (6.7m = Rondon/Negredo/Wilson)

              (B) Ibrahimovic/Antonio --> 7.5m/Sanchez (7.5m = Deeney/Rashford/Defoe)

              Alternative,

-4 and ship Capoue for funds and do

              (C) Ibrahimovic/Chadli/Capoue --> Deeney/Sanchez/Ledley

              In:

neither, Liverpool midfielders are decent but Lukaku and Diego are going to be 35+ league goals between them for the season and they are both scoring regularly. Liverpool Midfielders are a headache on which one is this week's star

After all the talk about Leicester's defense they've managed to keep 3 CS's in the first 7. From now till the end of this year they've just got 3 tough fixtures wrt clean sheets. Add Morgan's goal threat to the equation and he does look a good punt till January 🙂
