With over 73,000 transfers out since Friday evening’s deadline, the Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.5) fire sale is gaining momentum.

From Gameweek 1-4, the Manchester United frontman blazed a trail and found the net on four occasions as Fantasy Premier League managers clambered on board the bandwagon.

In the past three league matches, which coincides with Marcus Rashford’s (6.9) return to the first XI, he has garnered just one assist.

As Jose Mourinho begins to solve the puzzle of how to integrate all the attacking talent at his disposal, Zlatan’s role appears to be changing. He’s becoming more of a front man around which the pace of Rashford and Jesse Lingard (5.7), the guile of Juan Mata (7.4) and the surges of Paul Pogba (8.3) can thrive.

All well and good, but do you really want to have 11.5 tied up in someone taking it for the team?

Let’s get one thing straight. Parting company with a player still owned by over 51% of FPL managers is by no means an easy call to make.

Over the last three Gameweeks, he is the top-ranked forward for attempts on goal (16), shots inside the box (12) and efforts on target (seven).

Those are hardly the statistics associated with an out-of-sorts striker.

Yet with back-to-back trips to Liverpool and Chelsea up next, it’s no real surprise to see so many looking for alternatives up front.

Costing 11.9 as recently as Gameweek 5, his price dropped 0.4 in two rounds of fixtures. With an international break now upon us, Ibrahimovic could feasibly be sitting at 11.2 by the time United make their way to Anfield a fortnight this evening.

Recent weeks have seen the veteran drop to fifth in the forward standings, with Diego Costa (10.0) and Romelu Lukaku (9.4) moving into the top two slots.

The former has scored or assisted in six of his seven appearances under Antonio Conte and Lukaku has bagged five goals and an assist in five starts for Ronald Koeman.

Despite missing two matches through suspension, Aguero also sits above the Swede – the Argentine is also the top forward for points per match, with an average of 7.8 some way ahead of Ibra’s 5.3.

With so many appealing mid-price picks in the centre of the park, Ibrahimovic’s budget would go a long way to help strengthen our options.

Swapping him out for Lukaku, for example, would more or less free up the budget to draft in Tottenham’s in-form Heung-Min Son (7.6) for Etienne Capoue (5.2) as a fourth midfielder.

In a weekend where we saw the likes of Alexis Sanchez (11.2), Roberto Firmino (8.4), Michail Antonio (7.3) and the aforementioned Son all lead the line for their respective clubs, there’s plenty of out of position potential to target.

Yes, Ibrahimovic still leads the way in total attempts, shots in the box and attempts on target after seven Gameweeks.

For many, that will be more than enough to hold in spite of the inevitable price drop.

The underlying numbers clearly suggest Zlatan could very well burn any sellers.

Yet bearing in mind that 11 midfielders have bettered Ibrahimovic’s tally of 37 points already, parting company while his stock plummets and cannily reinvesting the cash elsewhere doesn’t seem such a radical idea.

Looking at FFix price changes why is there so much more love for Mustafi vs Monreal? Surely Monreal more proven and more of an attacking threat?

    Foster - Jaku

    Shaw - McAuley - Stones - Amat - Souare

    Sanchez - Mane - Redmond - Snodgrass - Capoue

    Aguero - Costa - Lukaku

I want to change Redmond but with my front-line (which I am happy with) along with Sanchez and Mane, I cant see any real way of doing so for someone in the 7-8M bracket.

I have .5M in the bank. I could lose 1M off Shaw by switching to Holebas, giving me 1.5M to play with. Any suggestions?

    Mid-Price Striker analysis:

    Points per game:
    Calculated by Points/(Total Minutes/90)

    Rank:
    (1) Austin - This Season 6.96 | Last Season 6.39 -- Fixture: BUR, mci, CHE, hul
    (2) Rashford - This Season 5.23 | Last Season 5.79 -- Fixtures: liv, che, BUR, swa
    (3) Benteke - This Season 4.67 | Last Season 6.12 -- Fixtures: WHAM, lei, LIV, bur
    (4) Defoe - This Season 5.50 | Last Season 4.87 -- Fixtures: sto, wham, ARS, bou
    (5) Wilson - This Season 3.95 | Last Season 5.37 -- Fixtures: HUL, TOT, mid, SUN
    (6) Rondon - This Season 5.27 | Last Season 4.05 -- Fixtures: TOT, liv, MCI, lei
    (7) Deeney - This Season 4.38 | Last Season 4.54 -- Fixtures: mid, swa, HUL, liv

Charlie Austin's numbers are really impressive over the last two seasons, however the sample is limited since he only played 211 minutes last season and 297 minutes this season. Notably, during his 2014/2015 season when he played 3065 minutes with QPR he notched an impressive 5.17 ppg. Fixtures over the next 4 are a mixed bag - Burnley have only played two away games this season in the premier league and conceded 3 in both games which bodes well for Austin. However Man City and Chelsea after that and then Hull away from home takes away from his appeal. May be a rotation risk.

Rashford points per games have been consistently good, and considering Liverpool haven't kept a clean sheet in the PL this season Rashford could be looking to add to his tally. Chelsea is a tough game, however Burnley at home and Swansea away look favourable for the young man. May be a rotation risk.

Benteke's stats are also good, playing West Ham who have conceded 9 away goals in 3 games the Belgian will fancy his chances to get a goal. lei, LIV and bur isn't a bad set of fixtures after the West Ham game, but of all the mid price strikers Benteke is the most expensive at 7.6m. No risk of rotation.

Defoe, often only considered at the end of the season is ranked 4th in the table of mid price strikers based on his PPG this season and last. He has started well but faces 3 away games in his next 4 with his home game against Arsenal. No risk of rotation.

Callum Wilson has three home games in his next 4 but has only found the net twice this season. Hull, middlesborough and Sunderland in his next four makes him appealing. Ranked 5th due to 5 goals in 771 minutes last season which pulls his over PPG up somewhat. No risk of rotation.

Rondon's next 4 games are hideous in addition to two away games (FDR rating 4,4,4,4). His numbers are decent though but better options at 6.7m. No risk of rotation.

Deeney epitomizes average 4.38 ppg this season and 4.54 ppg last season. Fixtures are very favourable although three of those are away . Watford have managed 5 goals in three away games which bodes well for Deeney. 7.0m isn't a bad price for 3 goals and an assist so far this season. No risk of rotation.

Thanks for this. I have Rashford currently but may look to ditch after the Liverpool game for Austin.

All fingers point to Deeney though with pens and assists - will keep mulling it over.

Deeney could of had 3 on saturday.

            He's the winner for me.

Austin a fab of mine though

I also think this, haha, but he's a real leader in that team and of course having pens makes him the pick, slightly ahead of Defoe imo. Although if Austin keeps his place he could be a great option at his price!

Thankfully money is no object for me in case of this decision. Deeney,Defoe and Wilson all look good. Wilson especially with those 3 home games looks exceptional value

I wouldn't want any of those apart from Deeney and I do. Top 2 are not nailed so they shouldn't even be considered. BOU are not clicking and Wilson has been dropped already this season.

Benteke is the pick of these for me. Like Deeney, should also be on penalties, and Palace keep putting those crosses in. Also helps that I've bought at 7.4.

Deeney is better value for me. Got him for £6.9m.

Of the others, Austin if nailed is the one. Good team and proper service.

Palace look sh*te and Tekkers drifts out of games once he gets bored, which puts me off at £7.4m

Out of the rest, Defoe is the safest pick. Steady, if not spectacular and fights for everything.

        Thinking of a WC!
        Heaton (Pickford)
        Walker Koscielny Evans (Amat) (Holebas)
        Walcott Firmino Son Sterling (Capoue)
        Aguero Lukaku Deeney

Its Walcott + Son too much insecurity?
I can do Özil + Fletcher instead of Walcott + Capoue.

Thought of double up in defence aswell with Vertongen + Walker. Spurs seems to be keeping it tight.

        Pickford--Foster
        Clyne--Koscielny--Holebas--McAuley--Amat
        Ozil--Sterling--Antonio--Snodgrass--Capoue
        Aguero--Lukaku--Deeney

I'm going to keep him and maintain 2FT for GW8 I think.

Aguero will be coming back from SA before GW8 and Ibra will be fully rested against a Liverpool side who cant defend against headers and have conceded in every game so far.

Applebonkers also makes some good point RE Aguero below

            http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2016/10/03/the-stock-check-gameweek-7-sunday-2/?hc_page=14#hc_comment_14236148

Selling Aguero and keeping Ibra gives you an extra 1.5 which can turn McAuley into Koscielny.

Anyway just expressing my thoughts. I am keeping both for the record.

Which one of the following options looks the most appealing for you:

          A) Valencia & Rondon -> Koscielny & Austin
          B) Foster & Rondon -> Pickford & Deeney
          C) Valencia, Mane & Rondon -> Koscielny, Coutinho & Deeney (-4)

              B. Pickfords saves are wracking up the points for me and could keep a CS at some point too. 2 bonus even after conceding. Denny has great fixtures, pens in an attacking team.

Zlatan is the easiest sell in the world quite frankly. I wildcarded him out in gw6 but can appreciate that people will have kept him in that period. Despite his high ownership, the reason it should be easy to sell Zlatan is due to investment.

Zlatan is currently a terrible investment. he is 11.5m and is going to fall 0.1-0.3 this gameweek. Therefore, you are literally paying money in the hope that he will perform and Utd's next 2 fixtures are Liv (A) and Che (A) with a Europa League game sandwiched in between. Hmmm.

When Lukaku or Costa gives you 2m/1.5m to spend without costing you money in the build up, I am honestly a bit surprised that this issue is even a debate. Get him out now and if he performs, buy him back for less money whenever is appropriate.

I agree that 0.3 won't happen, but 0.2 is a possibility. we will see.

I don't think that Lukaku will perform badly. He is on form which offsets his 2 tricky away fixtures. After that his fixtures are fine and he is rising in price whilst Zlatan falls. I would be happy to make that move all day.

Costa is on a the tightrope yes. However, we've seen this many times. I'm willing to bet substantial amounts that Costa gets booked against Utd and is suspended for the league cup game. I can accept he is a risk though.

In any case, Lukaku and Costa were just examples? There's plenty of strikers to choose from and you can get a big midfielder in his place. At this stage of the season, I think its criminal to hold on to players nosediving in value.

Quite like it. Rashford not my cup of tea but still a valid choice. Are you ever going to play Capoue though, realistically? I'd be very tempted to downgrade him to a cheaper 5th and use the extra funds to upgrade Francis. Maybe even get another 4m GK instead of Heaton to remove the selection headache and play Pickford every week, investing that back in to your Def too.
