After seven Gameweeks of 2016/17 – which included five away fixtures – Liverpool are sitting pretty in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are just two points off the summit, having chalked up wins over Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester, in addition to a draw on the road at Tottenham.

A Gameweek 2 loss at Burnley – where they produced 26 attempts on goal to their hosts’ three in a 2-0 defeat – has been the one temporary blip for the red half of Merseyside.

It’s fair to say that the Reds’ midfield has been fundamental to their displays – all but one of their 18 goals have arrived from the centre of the park.

From a Fantasy Premier League perspective, though, pinpointing the optimum Liverpool player in any given Gameweek has proven a near-impossible task.

Five of Klopp’s players – James Milner, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane – have scored at least three times.

As a result, that quintet are all placed in the top 11 midfielders in FPL, with Milner – despite his stint at left-back – benefitting from spot-kick duties four times already.

With time to pause and assess during the international break, we delve into both the team and player data as Liverpool prepare for a schedule that looks ripe for significant investment.

The Liverpool numbers are like the numbers on a roulette wheel

It has to be up to preference or eye ball test then, to decide who you go with. I'm sticking with Firmino for now, possibly enlisting Lallana, though I am not sure I like his SoT combined with that high conversion rate..

for me the eyeball test gives me Mane, but he's infuriating to own. Could blank five in a row or score a hattrick any given week.

He doesn't work as a FPL asset, too frustrating in a game that's already hard on your nerves. IMO you have to take the psychology of the game into consideration too, or you will lose your mind

love him or hate him, coutinho has a 1 in 2 goal record in starts under klopp. that's great for a midfielder who is arguably the best (barring milner maybe) at converting attacking returns into bonus

The most annoying thing about Liverpool is how many pens they get when their taker isn't a great player fantasy wise elsewhere; very similar to Gerrard in his final days.

With Liverpools fixture run coming, I'm thinking of getting 2x mid + 1x def.

Already have Mane and 2FT after deadline to get rid of Collins for Lovren/Matip and either Sterling or Antonio for Firmino or Lallana, depending how things look

I compared Capoue this year to Yaya and Ramsey in their insane year, to see if his regression is indeed inevitable.

The common thread throughout all three is ridiculous shot conversion. Yaya and Ramsey showed that if you're the right kind of player, that can be maintained, as arriving late in the box gives you a better quality of chances.

However, Capoue has a big disadvantage in he gets in the box less and shoots less overall. So even if he maintains his conversion rate, his form could tail off in the way it looks to be already.

That said, he has one big plus at present - he's still been involved in 50% of Watford's goals. They'll obviously score less than those Arsenal and City teams, so having him as a fourth mid doesn't seem viable - but as a strong 5th with the option to play 3-5-2, he may not be done just yet.

He was my 4.5. What do we really want from him? To play. He does every week. The rest is just a huge bonus. Cashing in on him is crazy in my book

true, but there are some of us who have made him into our 4th mid. For that position you'd want more than just playing every week

opposite, he plays better in a deeper role, has more targets to hit with his through balls and more time to pick his shots. He played there before in 13/14 in the midfield diamond as part of the 2 central midfielders and it really suited him.

Depends if you want to take some cash from the top to the middle or defence I think - Kun/Ibra is quite limiting.

Maybe since you have Foster you could look at an Evans replacement with good fixtures - Bournemouth/Watford def?

I have a bit of a rule about coverage
Its not important to cover all the big tes but i do try to cover several at any given time
Usually cover those with best attacks and fixtures
And I allow 1 slot for doubling up on one team if needed
So I'd go one of Walcott or Coutinho as either side could crush teams and you may get huge hauls by doubling up
But then you have less coverage of other games and the baps etc if you go too heavy so i dont double-double

What sort of value does everyone have/potentially have on their bench?

    I'm looking at this:

    Fer/Capoue rotating as 4th/5th mids (5.2-5.3)

Pickford 4.0 (with a mainstay expensive keeper)

But I was planning Amat (4.1) rotation with 2x4.5 defenders

    This would have meant 4.0 4.1 4.5 5.3 (total 17.9 bench value)

However ... By some adjustment, I've realised I can turn my defence into an pretty strong backline with like

Cech Stones Morgan Lovren Cedric (pickford amat) [and Lukaku] or even
Bravo Mustafi Lovren Cedric Morgan (Pickford amat) [Slimani instead of Lukaku]

With this I would still do fer/capoue amat and Pickford along with a 5.0 defender. This means 18.4 roughly in defence

But, It gives so much more options as I cango 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 as Fer/Capoue and several 5.0 defenders can rotate

Plys it means Southampton Leicester defenders (whose fixtures are good) instead of Bournemouth and Watford ones.

    Is the defence too strong?
Is 18.4 too much for a bench?

    Attack is still

    Sanchez Firmino Walcott (fer/capoue)
    Kun Deeney (Lukaku or Slimani)

    1. There Can Be Only One
      • 14 Years

my bench is pickford, amat, holebas, hojberg (4.0, 4.1, 4.5, 4,4) so 17m. Will rotate amat and holebas with Smith accordingly.

Not planning on playing my 5th midfielder so went for a cheapie who gets game time. I had Capoue but cashed in to let me upgrade 2 other positions.

Based on how bad I seem to be at rotating midfielders, I didn't go that route so left minimal value on the bench

          Heads up for Coutinho/Firmino owners.

Tite, our Brazil Manager, is set to replace Willian as the play maker with Coutinho, so we could see him start both games for Brazil. Firmino is not a starter, and I expect him to come in for a few minutes over Gabriel Jesus. Unless Jesus has mare and Firmino starts game #2 (unlikely).

Klopp may well look at this and decide Coutinho is worth resting post international over Firmino (if not both). As you all know, SA qualifiers are ridiculously competitive and very demanding especially when you play for Brazil and get hacked all game long.

Indeed...however I do think we are looking better than last 3/4 years and it's quite a young team. We could lineup with something like:

Allison; Marcelo, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos/Miranda, Dani Alves; Casemiro, Fernandinho, Coutinho; Neymar, Jesus/Firmino, Douglas Costa

You see the cat's tea towel holder as the weak point of the animal. "Why does it expose it so?"

My conclusion is that you are good at rearranging letters.

BONUS FACT: Cat's bums are never cold because they always stand facing the wind direction. The MET office still use them to help with wind forecasting.

No Lukaku or Tekkers is fine at this stage IMO. I would get a Pool mid with those fixtures coming up

Can you do Antonio to Firmino or no money? If not I would save as that is a good team. I would look to offload Rash soon though, personally.

I like Liverpool, but I'm not sure on a double up in midfield provided their tendency to lose it against the smaller teams

I have a rule of thumb about not doubling up on mids. Mid and an attacker is fine. Probably sounds daft but just something I haven't done......yet

i had Sturridge and Suarez a few years ago and I never would have considered doubling up on strikers. It was wonderful. Don't rule anything out based on nothing 🙂

I've got both Firmino and Coutinho in, just fancy them to do something over the next 9 games. They're going to destroy a number of teams with the way they are playing. They've already slotted 4 against Leicester and Arsenal, 5 against Hull and can just see more of those results

                            FYI rest of the team
                            Heaton - Pickford
                            Vertonghen - Koscielny - Holebas - Smith - Amat
                            Sanchez - Firmino - Coutinho - Son - Hojberg
                            Aguero - Benteke -Deeney

Wouldn't take a -4 with your current squad, I've got Valencia and although he's got 2 tough games coming up I think he's a season keeper...I would probably save transfer if I was you as I don't think there is any better than Williams at 5.0.

Lallana & Milner woudl be a nice double up. I could do:

Ibra, Capoue & Fer > 8.8m so Deeney plus Milner & Lallana 8pts this week, or save FT and do it next week for 4pts

Who would you rather have over the next 4?

                    A) Deeney (mid,swa,HUL,liv)

                    B) CWilson (HUL,TOT,mid,SUN)

If I get Deeney, I would be able to upgrade Redmond to Son/Lallana/Arnautovic next week.

If I get CWilson, I would be able to get Coutinho for Redmond or any of the above mids I mentioned. Would mean a Pool double up with Firmino.

I would go Wilson and get Coutinho in.

Wilson has 2 goals in 4 games, and a decent run of fixtures.

Sorry if this is a silly question but what makes a player drop below his base price? Obviously sales to some extent but some 0.0% owned players (eg. Swansea's Jay Fulton) have dropped from their base price while others (eg. Southampton's Jake Hesketh) haven't.

                    1. Worzel Gummidge
                        9 years, 3 months ago

Jay Fulton must have been owned by 1 or 2 people and both or 1 have sold. So he dropped. % probably too low to be reflected as 1% I would imagine as well.

Aye, possibly. They do show percentages to one decimal place so perhaps ol' Jay was 0.1% at some point. So the conclusion is it's entirely on ownership? Fair enough. Good to know. Thanks.

That's what I thought but I couldn't imagine some of the 0% players ever having had owners. Not Jay, obviously, but some of the others.

Well, actually Fulton is owned by a few (1500 ish) and as a few people (200 odd) dropped him his price dropped.

It's based on a percentage of their ownership. The more they are owned by, the bigger the threshold for price change.

Ah okay, thanks. So lower owned players have a lower threshold for dropping and presumably rising as well? Where do you find out actual ownership numbers rather than percentages?

We just got mortgage approval and made an official bid on an amazing house. Absolutely bricking it but also really excited!

                        Team is
                        Stekelenburg Jaku
                        Williams Walker Monreal (Amat Kingsley)
                        Ozil Capoue Firmino Coutinho Antonio
                        Kun Lukaku (Diomande)

How about Stek > Cech this week? Any other suggestions?

                          Nice 3-5-2!

I'd be tempted by that GK move, yeah - elsewhere you can afford to hold for a week; the only other thing may be removing Williams for a defender with a better fixture

You know it's a slow news day when the main story on BBC Sport is the mind games between the managers of Austria and Wales.

                          Are you on a WC?

This has the makings of a really nice team, but you need to say what kind of change you can make haha
