After seven Gameweeks of 2016/17 – which included five away fixtures – Liverpool are sitting pretty in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are just two points off the summit, having chalked up wins over Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester, in addition to a draw on the road at Tottenham.

A Gameweek 2 loss at Burnley – where they produced 26 attempts on goal to their hosts’ three in a 2-0 defeat – has been the one temporary blip for the red half of Merseyside.

It’s fair to say that the Reds’ midfield has been fundamental to their displays – all but one of their 18 goals have arrived from the centre of the park.

From a Fantasy Premier League perspective, though, pinpointing the optimum Liverpool player in any given Gameweek has proven a near-impossible task.

Five of Klopp’s players – James Milner, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane – have scored at least three times.

As a result, that quintet are all placed in the top 11 midfielders in FPL, with Milner – despite his stint at left-back – benefitting from spot-kick duties four times already.

With time to pause and assess during the international break, we delve into both the team and player data as Liverpool prepare for a schedule that looks ripe for significant investment.

  1. Ding, Ding... Son v Walcott Round Two

    Son Heung-min (4 goals, 2 assists / 10.78 ppg / 5.69ppg last season):

    Next 4 games:

wbrom (Conceded 4 in 3 at home = 1.3 goals per game)
bou (Conceded 3 in 3 at home = 1 goal per game)
LEI (Conceded 10 in 3 away = 3.3 goals per game)
ars (Conceded (5 in 3 away = 1.6 goals per game)

    Walcott (3 goals, 3 assists / 6.18 ppg this season/ 5.57 ppg last season):

    Next 4 games:

SWA (Conceded 3 in 3 away = 1 goal per game)
MID (Conceded 5 in 4 away = 1.25 goals per game)
tot (Conceded 1 in 4 at home = 0.25 goals per game)
SUN (Conceded 4 in 3 away = 1.3 goals per games)

I thought this would be a lot closer, but Son comes out top on points per games this season (considerably) and last season. Fixtures may well look easier on the face of it for Walcott, but looking at the numbers Son might actually have it easier.
If we total the goals conceded for the four teams each player is coming up against Son faces teams which have conceded 7.2 goals (1.8 goals per game) while Walcott faces a mere 3.8 which is just short of a goal a game (0.95 goals per game).

Spurs have concede 2 goals in 2 matches away so that makes it 0.5 per game. Sunderland have conceded 9 goals in 4 home matches that is 2.25.

Of course. Sunderland conceded 9 in 4 games at home and Arsenal is the best away team so far.
Tottnham cnceded 2 in 3 games away.

not that anyone does or should look too far into the future but i just feel Son is a couple of mundane performances away from being benched, and i just don't back him to keep this streak up. it's buying a future problem imo

They are both in form but I don't like the last season comparison as both were only bit part players last year.
Now all will depend on the return of Kane and Giroud!

Have an average of 16 at the moment with two really disappointing weeks (Sanchez and Kun blanks). I'd be tempted by 10 points for my captain every week. But that rules out any huge hauls of 30-40 in good weeks and double gamers.

Firmino was the lowest before this gameweek. The article kind of highlights this quite clearly....

Have one for coverage and be disappointed at times, or pick a couple and you'll most likely have some liverpool hauls every week.

Personally, Mane and Firmino are the clear choice if money is no object. But one of those combined with the very cheap Milner is enticing me...

a reason i'm considering payet aside from the obvious is his bonus conversion when he does anything. mane is arguably a midfield costa (walcott too btw), he seemingly has to get more than a goal or assist to get the big bonus

Since 2011/12, 32 midfielders have scored more than 10 goals in a Premier League season.

13 of those players scored at least 1 penalty, 10 of those players scored 3 or more penalties. #PenaltiesMatter

Sig is a real under the radar option along with Tadic. Utterly integral to teams play. Saints beginning to find their feet under new manager and fixtures turn soon. Swans likewise and with a new manager. We need some more options in that bracket. Stoke have done nothing as well remember. It's going to be a long season and already much more varied than last.

I have snodgrass as my 4th mid and lukaku as my 2nd forward.

But every way I look at it Son/Theo or a double up on that pool midfielder and a cheaper forward like Deeney or Defoe looks like a better option.

Love your team bar the forwards by the way. I have Rashford but crucially Lukaku as well to add a bit of middle weight to the Aguero Tyson.

probably next week, i will do something like this

          Sterling to Snodgrass
          Hernandez to Wilson
          Rashford to Lukaku

thats something in the plan, but will see after next week

We can see there is an increase in penalties this season, but not all clubs are getting penalties equally. So I figured it would be useful to cross reference sides who are winning more penalties against sides who are giving away more penalties to see if we could find penalty takers who you should consider and those which are less likely to have a big impact.

This table simply adds together penalties won by a side against the oppositions number of penalties given away for the season so far. The second page has a 6 match ticker with the same information.

But who know which of your players will get injured yet? You transfer Son in for someone and tehn someone else gets injured you will be fuming. Than your -8 becomes a -12

Right. I did some moves and now I'm just waiting what next. I'm not trying to convince anybody to bring Son, but watching how fast he is rising in fpl statistics he'll be more expensive before the game in Teheran on Tuesday. That is for sure.

Well I am on a wildcard so I was only trying to help you. I have him at the moment, so that is where I am.

I would just hate to see a -12 hit because of an injury. I think the loss of 0.1 is worth it

It just doesn't work very well. Someone needs to take the bull by the horns at UEFA and FIFA and bring an end to how internationals work mid season once and for all.

          Complete joke.
Move them all to end of season, play in a 2-3 week "tournament style", fill the voids during the year with league matches which would free up a winter break. Shorter off-season for international players, but countered by break mid season all managers have been crying for for years.
I'd be great at FIFA. if I was corrupt and 82 years old.

No probably not. But since when has that mattered to UEFA? They have been screwing the little countries for years. That is why the smaller nations all have to qualify for the champions league while the bigger countries all have multiple teams walk straight in.

It would be a FIFA decision not UEFA - if UEFA did this on their own all the other players from outside Europe would be hopping off for random internationals every few weeks and missing league games. Don't think Arsene would be too impressed.

A good point! FIFA is much more on the side of teh small nations that is true.

It will never hapen anyway but it would be nice and I moan about it every international break.

International breaks may be better for other nations anyway. In England we are lucky enough to have a good league which is more entertaining than the national team. For most nations it is likely the other way around.

It's about time that the 'experts' stopped peddling the myth that international football is the pinnacle of the sport. It isn't, the Champions League latter stages are.

It really frustrates me when I hear people like Trevor Francis say that unless you win the World Cup, you can't be considered an all time great.

The main reaction to England playing now is apathy.

How do you choose between Defoe or Deeney for the next few weeks?

      Defoe:
+ Main goal threat for Sunderland
+ Involved in 4 out of 6 goals scored (67%)
      + On Penalties
+ Very likely to get BAPS when he scores
      - Sunderland score very few goals (6 in 7 games)
      - No assist potential as such

      Deeney:
+ Plays for a more attacking team
      + On Penalties
+ Decent assist potential (9 assists last season)
      + Better fixtures short term
      - Involved in only 4 out of 12 goals scored (25%)
      - Goals & BAPS shared around at Watford

Struggling to decide, but leaning towards Deeney.

      Appreciate your responses.

Defoe is better footballer and he is chasing 150 goals in PL, but the team is not in good form. Maybe you're right in leaning towards Deeny. better fixtures and better individual stats in last few games.

Both for a 4pt hit, which one would you go for?

      A. Antonio -> Son + Benteke -> Defoe

      B. Antonio -> Son + Stones -> BOU defender

Leaning towards B because Benteke has WBA next.

Community teams battling against each other. A game based on a game, based in a game. Or something like that.

Must be a way of setting up a one off thing for international week where your players get points in the international games...

I cannot see any of FIFFSA doing one this year. We all have more commitments than we did last season

I wouldn't have time myself, it took a lot of time last year and I have even less this season. I think it needs a new batch of people willing to invest their time and skills.

      Holla,

Does anyone have any advice on what the best 2 rotating keepers are long term (preferabley in sub 4.7m range). On my wildcard and prefer having 2 playing keepers and picking the home keeper.

      Thanks in advance

I think Heaton's a must as yr home keeper. Pickford at the price can be the away keeper. Toss a coin when both away

They may rotate home and away but fixture wise the rotation of Burnley and Sunderland is pretty horrible

          Not really

Sanchez Walcott Antonio the others. Don't want to sell Antonio just yet, so will go without Son for now then

1ft, 1,4 itb. What is most urgent this week (if no surprises, I will wait of course)
      A) Fix Pickford -Jak combo
      B) Upgrade Capoue(4th mid) to Snodgrass
      C) Antonio to Son
      D) Sterling to Son
