After seven Gameweeks of 2016/17 – which included five away fixtures – Liverpool are sitting pretty in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are just two points off the summit, having chalked up wins over Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester, in addition to a draw on the road at Tottenham.

A Gameweek 2 loss at Burnley – where they produced 26 attempts on goal to their hosts’ three in a 2-0 defeat – has been the one temporary blip for the red half of Merseyside.

It’s fair to say that the Reds’ midfield has been fundamental to their displays – all but one of their 18 goals have arrived from the centre of the park.

From a Fantasy Premier League perspective, though, pinpointing the optimum Liverpool player in any given Gameweek has proven a near-impossible task.

Five of Klopp’s players – James Milner, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane – have scored at least three times.

As a result, that quintet are all placed in the top 11 midfielders in FPL, with Milner – despite his stint at left-back – benefitting from spot-kick duties four times already.

With time to pause and assess during the international break, we delve into both the team and player data as Liverpool prepare for a schedule that looks ripe for significant investment.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

You'd only drop Capoue from your midfield for him, and most have way too much value tied up in him. Plus, Capoue is better and its a waste of a transfer it feels for someone you're probably never gonna actually play...

Stoke look truly truly awful. Did you see their goal last weekend?

I am inclined to agree with Rusty. If you are changing from Capoue you should take the money and run to someone ultra cheap.

Or you should be sticking with Capoue.

Or you should be going 3-5-2

I cannot see any reason to tie useful money up in that spot

Maybe if you needed the cash and wanted a fifth mid that could score points whilst holding onto Capoue, sure fletcher is £4.4 but lbf you're not gonna get much more than 3 points from him.

    Liverpool
I see lots of people with double Liverpool players and my WC team has none.
    Is that a poor move?
My reasoning is there are 5! Firminho, Coutinho, Mane, Lallana, Milner capable of getting the points and therefore splitting. If I had to get one I'd want Mane but FPL have outfoxed me and priced him at 9.0m.
I'm not a fan of Liverpool so don't know if bias is coming into play when there fixtures are terrific.

Sanchez, Walcott, Son, Chadli and Snodgrass
With an upfront of Aguero, Deeney and Benteke.

My obvious way into Liverpool would be Son&Chadli for Mane&Capoue.

One of the highest scoring teams in the league and they don't have a striker so it's their mids who get all those goals. Thats why I have two in order to spread my bets and hopefully get a haul from at least one of them each week. Great fixtures and looking confident this season

There are enough mids scoring and Liverpool mids aren't really trustworthy with the armband, so I don't think it's a poor move. I've had Firmino since GW1 since I really rate him as a FPL asset

    4. E25
      • 10 Years

In my opinion you should have Lpool cover, being one of the top scoring sides. There aren't many midfielders in the same price bracket as the Lpool mids who score EVERY game so it is kind of irrelevant if they share the points provided they continue to score well.

      1. Swanremainsthesame
        • 10 Years

The team might score EVERY game (and also concede), but the way they spread the points around its a complete lottery every week between 7 mids.

          • 10 Years
          9 years, 3 months ago

Look at underlying stats and make your decision - It isn't a complete lottery by any means. If you are looking at holding for mid term then you will likely see a good number of points no matter which midfielder you choose. If you're taking a punt on one single GW then yes it is more of a lottery but that could be said for any player.

Would a Liverpool defender or goalkeeper be a better foil to doubling up on two of their midfielders given their good run of fixtures? It means freeing up resources for elsewhere in the midfield.

    Community tournament idea

    US State Championships

    50 teams

    Qualifying = 5 groups of 10 pre-Christmas (9 GWKs) – top 4 + 4 best 5th placed teams qualify (24 teams)

Main tourney = in the format of the Euros (24 teams) – in the new year (7 GWKs)

Teams of 6 with a captain and one player benched each GWK (similar to FIFFSA tourney last season)

Anyone want to help me organise? Particularly if you have spreadsheet skills and/or were involved in organising the FIFFSA tournament last year?

    Email me tyroreports@hotmail.com

Sounds like lots of people happy with their team but are considering major surgery to get Son in. Especially for those already breaking into their WC.

I'm in a Sterling, Milner, Deeney --> Son, Firmino, Wilson kinda mood today, but that might be because I only had an apple for breakfast.

Tomorrow I plan to get up in time to have my weetabix, so will probably be in an anti-liverpool, "who needs a playable 3rd striker?", lets downgrade Deeney to go Milner to Son, sort of mood.

What are other people having for breakfast?

    1. Costa's Counsellor
      • 10 Years

I've been making overnight oats recently. Just mix yoghurt, milk and berries with oats and leave them in a sealed container over night.

I'm having a few beers tonight though, so I'll probably be eating the remainder of a doner kebab with a smothering of Nandos sauce.

      Thanks for asking.

Well at least that guarantees some long thinking time on the throne.

    2. Dark Wolf

I thought about that as well.. The inclusion of Son.
However, my problem with Son and with the Spurs in general is that rotation scheme.
And also, the fact that, because Kane is out, there are more space for Son to shine. However, when Kane returns, and with a schedule composed by 2 games a week in a regular basis, I really don't know if Son is the best approach.
I think that people are shifting too quickly their focal points. For instance, Antonio had 2 games under the par. No one now is talking about him, despite of his real impact.
Then we have Chadli, that after this 4 games streak of complete nightmare, will become a reliable option. There is as well Lallana to be considered, when this injury issue is solved.
Therefore, there are many people in a constant rush changing their main objectives every week.
Today I had a good breakfast that allowed me to think properly about the issue.

Thanks Dark Wolf, that's really helpful. I was hoping someone could talk me out of Son. But just to clarify what you mean by good breakfast, are you talking 'overnight oats with yoghurt, milk and berries' good, or just had time to sit down and eat good? Would really help me assess the strength of your arguments. Thanks...

Probably a Burnley defender, They look quite respectable at home. Mee, Lowton or Ward, Lowton has the attacking stats but he is on 3 YC's already.

    Son kneejerk question...

    Heaton (Foster )
    Valencia Stones Adams (McAuley ,Collins)
    Sanchez Firmino Antonio Redmond (Capoue)
    Kun Benteke Lukaku

    a) -4pts Stones & Antonio- > Son & Holebas (or similar)
    b) -4pts Foster & Antonio-> Son & Grant
    c) -4pts Redmond & Lukaku-> Son & Deeney
    d) -4pts Tekkers & Antonio -> Son & Deeney
    e) 0 pts stop being silly

People need to realise they cannot own everyone. This season is great as its forcing so many into errors. Only have to look at Jonty and his minus Eight to see how the pressure to own the weeks "must haves" can cloud judgement

Taking hits to remove the likes of Benteke, Lukaku and Antonio not only can be wrong, but very likely is wrong

No doubt, I removed Lanzini for Son , so guess that will meet with approval. But I also think Antonio will regress and regardless , believe that Son will beat him going forward,
Maybe in the short term , but thats the way to play the game

Ye if I had a no brainer like that I'd do it but all of my 4pt hit options involve taking out a player who could easily score. Just a bit worried I won't be able to afford Son by the end of the break 🙁

      Thanks for the advice guys.

I think I will probably hold this week purely because all of the players I would have to take out have decent fixtures this week however from next week Redmond and Tekkers are ripe for the chop and I'll have 2 FTs to do it.

I posted a couple of days ago the same question below so just seeing if I can get anymore feedback -

Feel I need a decent heavy hitter for this woeful defence -

0.9 short of getting Rose/Monreal. Where can I save this?

    Lovren. Amat. Holebas. Evans
    Theo. Alexis. Capoue. Sterling. Firmino
    Deeney. Aguero. Lukaku.

Who are you getting rid of, Evans? Defence is so tough this year, I've paid the premium for Bellerin just to get the guaranteed points but I don't have Lukaku.
