It’s a quandary that has been rattling around the brains of Fantasy managers for the last week or so. With cut-price forwards offering decent returns, many Fantasy managers are reshaping their midfields ahead of a hectic Christmas period.

Nani, Rafael Van der Vaart and Juan Mata have been the chief protagonists for differing reasons. The United man’s 18-point haul against Wolves has many juggling budgets and looking to squeeze him in. Van der Vaart’s hamstring has seen plenty jumping ship and Mata’s consistency and flourishing form within a revived Chelsea team is starting to attract plenty suitors.

All three have a favourable run of fixtures on the horizon between now and the end of gameweek 20, when plans can be revised as the festive wildcard comes into play. Question is, then, is one, two or even all three the way to go?

We analyse our ICT Index and the Opta statistics over the previous four gameweeks, digging deep in order to examine each player’s potential over the hectic Christmas programme…

Still bugging me... Had my mind set on VDV -> Mata since Sunday...VDV could have a big score against Sunderland but I have no Chelsea coverage for their match against Wigan.

Should I make the move or not. I can't do any other moves and I don't want to take out Silva

Same. But with news that Defoe is playing these evening and VdV therefore likely to get minutes at the weekend, I am gradually drifting towards giving VdV "one more week". Plus, I think that Sturridge looks a better prospect than Mata and although I don't have him now Ba to Sturridge in a couple of weeks time looks like a good prospect.

Europa League gets exciting. Spurs need to beat Shamrock Rovers and hope Paok beat Rubin Kazan at home, with a 5 goal swing. It's 1-0 to Spurs and 1-0 to Paok with Rubin keeper sent off. Surely spurs are going to go for it now, going for either 4 match goals or more at 5.0, Defoe to score anytime at 2.4 or Spurs to win by 3 or more.

Hi lads, cant decide between adebayor v sun, nani v qpr, Stuuridge v wigan for captain. I think sunderland will be on a high this weekend after pulling a 2-1 injury time winner last wknd. united banging them in again but qpr away can nani do it again r sturidge to do damage against wigan.
    Who to captain

Im thinking studge. He hit hatrick against bolton this season so he is capable. I just dont trust ade finishing, he gets chances but could come away with 2 points.

Ade's finishing is bad, but Sturridge's is horrendous.

Not worst than ade. Also Al-Habsi tends to save difficult shots and let in easy shots.

yes, when Sturridge starts to appreciate his team mates and becomes more clinical then he will become a serious player. Until then, he will continue to frustrate.

You trust Sturridge's finishing and not Ade's? Strange. Sturridge wastes many chances as well. He didn't get a hat trick against Bolton either. Don't get me wrong, I think Sturridge is a decent captain option but mainly because he will probably get a fair amount of chances against Wigan.

Didnt say studge is a great finisher himself. When one on one he tends to side foot the ball straight at the keeper. Just compared to ade. My bad lamps got that hatrick at bolton. You capt Ade then this GW?

    If I said to you:

    “in the last eleven game weeks, this player scored: 8, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 5, 2, 2, 2 – (not in that order) = 55pts total”

    compared to say, Silva, who scored 12, 8, 7, 6, 6, 5, 5, 5, 2, 1, 1 = 58 total

...Who would you think I'm talking about and how much would you say such a player was was worth?

NB: This is not a test of the ability of smarty pantses to trawl through FPL points records... please just give the first guess that comes to mind to help me illustrate the point 🙂

Since playing full games from GW5 this dude is a scoring machine! For only 5.0m he outclasses a lot of more expensive players...

Stats can only give you a certain picture. I saw enough of the, albeit tough, fixture at Stoke for me to decide that my money should be invested in Adebayor, Bale and then switch VDV to Nani and/or Mata.

Indeed. Stats don't tell the real story. The matches that I saw with my own eyes tell me what I need to know. That's not to say stats aren't useful, because they are, they're just not the be all and end all.

Yeah, I'm not discrediting Paulos's fine work at all and stats are invaluable, but I'm happy with my VDV and Pilk to Nani and Mata, whilst keeping Ade and Bale.

I am organising Baines and VDV plans for the the double.

Ditto, to decide whether to rid VDV I watched the guy. In the Stoke match, the fourth I'd seen with VDV, I decided I'd seen enough of a pattern of him being out of the game. Chances simply weren't flowing through the centre and the other factor was the impression he's still injured.
