Our latest Captain Poll has now launched to gauge your early views on the top armband options for Gameweek 12.

Last week’s poll leader Sergio Aguero (13.1) now has three goals in his last two league matches after netting in Man City’s home draw against Middlesbrough.

Owned by 46.3% of Fantasy Premier League managers, the Argentine will be amongst the leading contenders once again, as he travels to a Crystal Palace side still seeking a first Premier League clean sheet of 2016/17.

His 10%-owned team-mate, Kevin De Bruyne (10.7) could be an enticing alternative, having scored or assisted in all four of his away appearances this season.

After a sensational 19-point FPL haul at home to Everton, Eden Hazard (10.0) has been drafted in by more than 147,000 managers ahead of Chelsea’s Gameweek 12 trip to Middlesbrough.

With five goals and two assists over his last four league matches, Hazard looks set to be one of Aguero’s fiercest rivals for the Gameweek 12 captaincy.

Also in his favour is a 14-point return away to Southampton in Gameweek 10, which indicates the Belgian may have addressed a travel sickness that has blighted him throughout his Fantasy Premier League career.

With a goal or assist in nine of the first 11 Gameweeks, Diego Costa (10.5)’s consistency makes him another armband favourite among Chelsea’s ranks.

But ‘Boro will be no pushovers.

Aitor Karanka’s side have conceded just once in the last three, which includes clashes against Arsenal and Man City. Furthermore, the Teessiders have been breached on just six occasions in five home fixtures.

With five goals against in the last three Gameweeks, Southampton’s defensive resolve has softened of late.

This presents another batch of strong captaincy candidates among the ranks of visitors Liverpool, who have scored 30 times this season, more than any side.

Topping the Reds armband options is Philippe Coutinho (8.7), who served up his fourth double-digit haul of the season during Sunday’s 6-1 thrashing of Watford. With an ownership of 45.8%, the Brazilian is FPL’s most popular midfielder.

Roberto Firmino (8.6) and Sadio Mane (9.0) both delivered impressive returns of 15 and 13 points respectively in that match to ensure they remain contenders in the poll.

Mane, who was sold by Southampton in the summer, is particularly intriguing for those who subscribe to the theory that players perform better against former employers.

Romelu Lukaku (9.8) may have blanked in Everton’s 5-0 humbling away to Chelsea on Saturday but in Gameweek 12 the 33.7%-owned striker faces a far more obliging defence.

Visitors Swansea have conceded nine times in their last four matches, while the Belgian international has scored in all bar one of his home league encounters. It would be no surprise to see him near the top of the poll by the end of the international break.

Alexis Sanchez’ away form looks promising as Arsenal make their way to Old Trafford. Six of the Chilean’s seven goals have arrived on the road, as he faces a defence with just two shut-outs in the last eight Gameweeks.

Elsewhere in north London, Harry Kane returned to action with a converted spot-kick at the Emirates yesterday.

Owned by a mere 5% of FPL managers, the Spurs striker has netted in each of his last three Premier League outings and hosts West Ham’s leaky defence at the Lane.

Gameweek 12’s differential captaincy options are led by Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe (7.3), who has six goals this season and hosts a Hull City outfit that has conceded 13 times on their travels.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later next week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

He has really improved this season. He used to frustrate me with his shooting from distance, when passing would have been a better option. The movement of the other Liverpool players brings out the best of his creativity

Just not sure how to get him into my midfield. Already have Firminho and happy to stick with him - seems a pointless transfer to swap Firminho with him. Brought in Hazard Saturday evening and also have Sanchez. Guess would either have to swap for Sanchez or downgrade Lukaku. Both don't seem like good options though.

    New post, new opinions.

    Currently on:

    Hazard, Cout, Mane, Allen, (Capoue)
    Aguero, Austin, Lukaku

Would you do Lukaku + Capoue to 4.5 + De Bruyne, essentially going 352 over 343? Defense is decent, can cover Allens yc ban.

considering the money he has spent, the players at his disposal (a vast majority are Internationals at various levels or have been) and the length of time he has had to figure out the best system for his team is Alan Pardew the worst manager in the premier league league? theres a touch of Roberto martinez about his post match interviews where it seems he was watching a completely different game to everyone else by grossly exaggerating just how good his team was (even though they invariably lost)

His tactical nous is appalling. Seen Palace a few times this year and basically have two plans:

      1. Get ball out wide, and get Benteke on the end of crosses. Problem 1: Townsend cuts inside a lot and doesn't get to the byline. Problem 2: Zaha dordles on the ball far too often and loses possession a lot. Problem 3: Both are very poor at crossing. Problem 4: Benteke is very immobile.

      2. Give in to Puncheon and hope for the best. Problem 1: Pardew randomly drops Puncheon in games he desperately needs him.

He can motivate a team for a run of games, but once that burst of energy runs out it all goes off the rails a bit.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

The great Gameweek 15 fixture shift.

From Gameweek 15 the stars realign with London, Wales and the North West in the ascendency.

Chelsea embark on a sensational run of games (WBA, sun, cpl, BOU, STO). Already around 147,000 FPL managers have got Hazard in for this. Arguably tripling up on Blues assets could be ideal.

Then there's Swansea. Terrible form, but there's a shiny Icelandic gem in the rough. With SUN, wba, mid, WHM, BOU up from GWK 15 onwards Sigurdsson looks enticing indeed.

Burnley take on BOU, MID and SUN at home over the five fixtures from GWK 15 making Heaton a great bet. Also perhaps VOkes as a third striker differential?

Then there's southampton who'se fixturs also look sea blue, apart from hosting Tottenham in GWK 18.

On the slide are Stoke, WBA, Everton and Man City. Is Lukaku ditchable. Is ...drumroll...Aguero ditchable? And where now for Allen fans?

    Lots to ponder.

How are you addressing this perhaps season defining fixture shift?

I've already got Hazard in. Redmond is in place too.

That leave me with three more frees ahead of GWK 15.

      Alonso on the shopping list.

      Sigurdsson too.

May consider ditching Lukaku depending on form ahead of GWK 15. Costa is too enticing an option with those fixtures so Lukaku will really need to turn it on to compete.

Got Hazard and Alonso on kneejerk on Saturday night in anticipation for this and their price rises.

Took out Firmino (doesn't look great in hindsight) and kept Sanchez - probably will take out one of Aguero or Lukaku to fund Firmino back and get Siggy as an upgrade for Gun as the 4th mid (Allen still happily as the 5th mid)

As a veteran of the Firmino hokey-cokey I'd say you either get him in and keep ...or ditch and never look back.

He's going to be good all season I think so its just a question of getting in someone who can keep up. I've coutinho so feel ok with Firmino returns as I always get something from them now via Phil

Agee with this, I've had him since day 1 and considered selling after GW3 but stuck with and he has more than repaid with big scores. I doubled up with Coutinho last week and can't see myself selling either anytie soon.

I'm a little worried about Allen already after getting him in this week but will see how next 3 go and then work out how to upgrade.

Chelsea triple is a must for me. Alonso and Hazard will be in by next week I expect and then it's a choice between Luiz or Costa.

Took my first hits of the season over the weekend:

Out went: Zlatan, Firmino and Capoue

In came: Costa, Hazard and De Roon, -8pts.

Did the moves early with a view of making up some of the value I lost on Zlatan.

I'm feeling a bit uneasy about losing Firmino, but I still have Coutinho.

Already own Costa and Hazard and tempted by Alonso for sure.

I don't like Redmond as a pick, having owned him since GW1 I want rid. Would rather have gotten a defender from Saints, considering Cedric.

I have Hazard, Alonso and Austin. Plus the template Heaton.

Planning on getting Cedric as soon as he is fit; and will probably ditch either one of Aguero or Lukaku for Costa.

May get Sig as a replacement for Walcott, but that would leave me with zero Arsenal attacking cover which I am not keen on.

Allen is my 5th mid so very happy to bench him. I am sure he will get the chance to climb off the bench over the Xmas period.

Probably the best wildcard I have played in recent years, so need to keep ahead of the curve if possible.

If Ibra's price drops any further he's in direct competition with Costa in price range. So an Ibra & Hazard combo instead of Hazard & Costa will be enticing.

Mids-wise, Mata the only one - but obviously Jose likes to randomly drop him. His price and position make him a brilliant option otherwise.

Only defence option is DDG really now that Valencia is out for a while.

      I am fairly well set.
Like you I am thinking of getting rid of lukaku after Swansea.
His fixtures toughen up can go back to Everton on 2nd WC terrified of wrecking my team with it.
It will most likely be 352 for me.
      Lukaku and Pedro out
      Anicibe and Sanchez in

      Allows me to keep kun.

I made the mistake of getting lallana out and Pedro in before the Liverpool game.
But it did allow me to Chelsea up with Alonso and hazard as well.
I am already covered with Austin for Southampton's lovely run of games.

Team value is great because I am not afraid to make early transfers and take hits.

Already have triple Chelsea - captain fantastic Hazard, Costa and Azpilicueta (Alonso might have been even better) and Southampton's Austin. 😀
May replace Lloris with Heaton when there is nothing more pressing.

But this week's transfer will have to wait till after the internationals - too many temporary problems with injury doubts (Chadli and Walker), suspension (Holebas) and benching (Amat), and there may be additional or different ones by the time of the next deadline.

Brought in Hazard on Saturday to avoid inevitable price increases (thought about bringing him in for a hit before the last gaemweek and gutted I didnt!) Also plan to bring Alonso in at a later stage, maybe not yet though. Will monitor Lukaku's form - Costa as possible replacement though. Trying to figure out a way to have Coutinho on top of Firminho (who I currently have) but it is proving difficult. I think Chelsea and Liverpool assets could be key for the Xmas period.

Willing to take 2 hits between now and GW15. So that's 6 FT. Plan is to now use 5 and go 3-5-2

IN: Alonso, Cedric, Pedro, Hazard, Anchibe
Out: Walker, Holebas, Allen, Walcott, Lukaku

      Heaton, Jake
      Fuchs, Alonso, Cedric, Evans, Amat
      Sanchez, Hazard, Firmino, COutinho, Pedro
      Kun, Austin, Anchibe

If Liverpool start to sputting (big IF), then I could last FT on shifting one of the mids to SIggy, or keep Walcott. COsta is tempting and he may be a straight Kun replacement if necessary.

      Exciting times!!

Am currently saving my transfer, will then try and build up for some surgery including a hit for gw14, then roll over.

Looking at shipping Stones, Lukaku/Aguero form dependent.

Are we looking at Burnley defenders or just Heaton?

I was going to wildcard in GW 15. It involved bringing 3 Che assets in. I can't afford that team with the value increments now.

      Wildcard active.

      xx xx
      Alonso xx xx xx xx
      Haz Theo Firm Cout xx
      Aguero Costa Austin

I have very little to play with in defence. I'm hoping i can shift Costa to Kane/Ibra soon.

If i want Heaton/Foster for one of my keeper slots it means 3 x 4.5 and no Stones/Cedric. If i want Stones/Cedric it means Grant and Pickford in goal.

What if you go for Heaton/Robinson (hopefully he falls to 3.9 during this break), with Nyom at 4.3 and a 4.4 like Britos? Coupled with possibly Lenihan at 3.9, could leave you enough for a 4.9 defender? (Assuming DeRoon for 5th mid)

Got Heaton and Austin. Need Hazard so Ibra will have to go either in a 3-5-2 selling Fletcher or staying with 3-4-3 selling Gundogan and playing two cheap strikers.

Mo Barrow at 5.0 as an enabler?
I'm also considering Defour, will probably be at the heart of most Burnley goals
Cedric when returned to fitness fully, will surely be worth a place..

I'll be replacing C.Wilson, upgrading Barry, and possibly replacing Koscielny with a spurs defender for gw 16/17, possibly doing Stones to VVD.
Lots of options, but such a clear shift in fixtures makes changes inevitable.

    Last time repost

    Wally/Austin > Hazard/4.5 ??
    And palying 3-5-2 with Allen as a 5th ?
That would allow me to leave Sanchez in my team

Yes for me. I went with Allen as a 5.th mid and Anichebe on top.
      Leaves me with:
      Firm - Couth - Haz - Sanch - Allen
Tekkers - Kun - (Anichebe). Pretty happy with that.

    Lads, I'm afraid.

Every time Coutinho or Firmino got the ball in the final third yesterday, it looked like something would come of it. Scored 6 but could've easily had more.

Not doubling up at the minute is only asking for trouble I think...

It's because Firm and Cout are key to all the attacking play. Hence why Lallana came away with the three, as one of the linking players, whereas Mane is more peripheral.

So, Sanchez ---> Hazard for this next fixture?

    My front 8 is:

Coutinho Firmino Sanchez Allen De Roon

    Aguero Lukaku Costa

It might seem like a knee jerk but I really can't handle not having hazard when he's in this sort of form. Especially with middles borough next..

    1. CloudSky

Boros defence is pretty decent. Id probably save and leave Sanchez in. Given his fixtures, he could easily match Hazard and maybe look to swap after GW15.

do you not feel a sense of de ja vu here? sanchez punishing sellers by a big performance against a big team and hazards form suddenly dropping to two, three point hauls. he was stunningly good against Everton but he's got some nasty fixtures coming up and has yet to perform against anyone in top 4

      1. EspanYOLO
        • 12 Years

Yeah, But I also sense De Ja Vu in not having an in form Hazard.

It the same fear I get when I don't have Aguero.

All the comments above make a lot of sense, if it wasn't for the price rises I would probably not be considering it.

Neither with the other options out there atm. Pedro if you have to.

Walcott. Still one of the best assets around imo

Came off with a knock in the NLD, but he's still in the England team.

Would have thought he'd be back for the next GW.

      Haz, Cout, Firm, Bolasie, Allen
      Kun, Austin, Benteke

He might not have got any points this week, but keep an eye on James Milner.

Not sure if it's permanent, but it seemed to me that the introduction of Can over Wijnaldum has aided in allow Milner to get into the box a fair bit. It also seemed to lead to Lallana driving forward a little less, and notably he had 0 attempts in a game Liverpool absolutely dominated

Seems to me like Lallana has been told to reduce his no of shots and focus on creating more

Yeah, he went wider a fair bit rather than forward

Think he had one direct free kick which Pantilmon saved

Good combination with Coutinho on the left as Coutinho tends to cut inside

Yeah, he had 2 attempts in the box too, good ones.

Little annoying that Coutinho has nabbed corners from him though

Just can't get excited about a mid playing at left back

Hmmm, yeah. But in terms of looking for that value mid, I'm not so sure Lallana is a better option than him tbh. Of course, other options such as Siggy, Chadli etc are about, but despite his position, he seems to be very likely to tick along

If he was a defender I would be all over him.

I am an IDIOT!! I did 3 knee jerk transfers (-8).

      Out Walcott, Daniels, Firmino.

      In Hazard, Alonso, Gundogan.

Should I rectify Firmino error with another -8 to bring him back in and transfer out Deeney to Barnes or Anichebe?

      #headsgone

      Thank you

You made your transfers for a reason. You're just chasing points by getting Firmino back in.

I was about to say how much I like it and realized you have no Aguero.
