Alexis Sanchez returns to training, Irish injuries could have an impact on Joe Allen’s Stoke City role, and further influences from the West Brom camp are at the top of the agenda from Saturday’s international matches. Here’s the pick of the stories from a busy day in Europe, Africa and beyond.

The major news of the latest round of international fixtures took place off the pitch as Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez (11.3) resumed training following a hamstring scare.

The 23.5%-owned midfielder missed Chile’s goalless draw in Colombia on Thursday and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger stirred up a classic club-versus-country row when he suggested it would be ‘suicidal’ for his man to be risked in Tuesday’s match against Uruguay.

Both Wenger and Sanchez’s small army of Fantasy Premier League managers must now wait for the Chilean FA’s next move.

Manchester City keeper Claudio Bravo (5.5), who suffered an injury in the Colombia clash, has also returned to training.

Austria 0 Republic of Ireland 1

West Brom completed an impressive Irish double when James McClean (5.0) scored the winner for the Republic in Austria.

The Baggies winger’s goal came the day after Northern Ireland had a raft of West Brom players to thank for their victory over Azerbaijan.

It wasn’t all wine and roses for Tony Pulis, however. McClean played despite suffering from a back issue, limped off in the latter stages and remains a concern for West Brom’s home match with Burnley in Gameweek 12.

Stoke City’s Glenn Whelan (4.4), meanwhile, might miss the visit of AFC Bournemouth after sustaining a hamstring injury.

That could have a domino effect on the Potters team sheet. With Whelan a doubt and Geoff Cameron (4.4) still struggling due to a knee problem, Mark Hughes has limited options in the two deep-lying midfield roles.

Joe Allen (5.4) will inevitably be a strong candidate to drop back from his No 10 role, particularly as Hughes has been happy to talk up Bojan’s (5.6) attacking credentials, as our most recent Say What article highlighted.

A reduction in Allen’s attacking potential would be bad news for the 18.4% of FPL managers currently backing the Welshman to take advantage of Bournemouth’s poor record on the road.

Team-mate Marko Arnautovic (7.2) played the full 90 minutes for Austria, while Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer (4.6) was substituted after 78 minutes. Harry Arter (5.0) made his first competitive start for the Republic.

Austria play again, against Slovakia, in a friendly on Tuesday.

Rep of Ireland XI: Randolph; Coleman, Duffy, Clark, Brady, Whelan (Meyler 22) Hendrick, Arter, Hoolahan (McGoldrick 78), McClean (McGeady 85), Walters.

Wales 1 Serbia 1

While Ireland flourished, Wales faltered, although the West Brom connection was still very much to the fore.

Hal Robson-Kanu (5.0) set up Gareth Bale for the Welsh goal, but the hosts succumbed to a late equaliser in a fractious encounter that left Dusan Tadic (7.2) with a bloody nose. He will now be a doubt to feature for Southampton against Liverpool, although Serbia travel to face Ukraine for a friendly before that, so an update on his prognosis seems likely.

Wales manager Chris Coleman switched formation from 5-3-2 to a 4-2-3-1, with recalls for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey (7.6), Joe Allen and Robson-Kanu.

Chelsea duo Nemanja Matic (5.1) and Branislav Ivanovic (5.8) started for Serbia. Aleksandar Kolarov (5.8) was suspended.

Wales XI: Hennessey; Gunter, Chester, Williams, Taylor, Allen, Ledley (Edwards 84), Bale, Ramsey, Robson-Kanu (Lawrence 68), Vokes.

Elsewhere in Europe, Nacho Monreal (5.9) scored his first-ever international goal as Spain cantered to a 4-0 victory over Macedonia, whilst captain David Silva (8.7) chipped in with an assist.

The Spain XI also included David De Gea (5.5) in goal. Cesar Azpilicueta (6.1), Juan Mata (7.4), Ander Herrera (6.3) and Nolito (8.7) were all unused subs but could see some action in Tuesday night’s friendly with England.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.2) and Burnley’s Johann Berg Gudmundsson (5.1) both got the full 90 minutes as Iceland lost 2-0 in Croatia, while West Ham striker Simone Zaza’s (6.4) season to forget continued as he watched Italy’s 4-0 win over Liechtenstein from the bench.

Iceland will hope for better things from a Tuesday friendly in Malta, while Italy take on Germany.

Nigeria 3 Algeria 1

The stock of Victor Moses (5.6) continues to rise.

The Chelsea man has started the last five matches at wing back for the Blues and prospered in a more advanced role for Nigeria, scoring twice as the Super Eagles continued their perfect start to World Cup qualifying.

Teammate John Obi Mikel (4.4) claimed the other goal.

Kelechi Iheanacho (6.8) and Alex Iwobi (5.8) also started for the hosts, with the latter replaced by Leicester’s Ahmed Musa (7.0) for the final 15 minutes.

The Leicester City pair of Riyad Mahrez (9.1) and Islami Slimani (8.3) played the full 90 minutes for Algeria. Mahrez and Musa earned an assist apiece for their respective nations.

African football was generally busy yesterday, Premier League players less so.

Sadio Mane (9.0) survived 90 mins unscathed as Senegal lost 2-1 in South Africa. With no further matches for Senegal over the break, he is likely to figure in Liverpool’s clash with his former club at St Mary’s.

There was also good news for the many Fantasy Premier League managers on Mane’s teammates Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino (both 8.7) – the pair have chartered a private plane to bring them back as early as possible from Brazil’s late Tuesday/early Wednesday match in Peru ahead of Gameweek 12.

Wilfried Bony (7.3) and Max Gradel (5.1) made substitute appearances in Ivory Coast’s goalless draw away to Morocco. Sunderland’s Lamine Kone (4.4) started for the visitors, whilst Southampton midfielder Sofiane Boufal (6.8) was named in the hosts first XI.

Ivory Coast play again, on Tuesday, in a friendly against France.

Middlesbrough midfielder Adama Traore (4.8) started for Mali in the 0-0 draw with Gabon, but the last word can only go to West Brom – Baggies man Allan Nyom (4.3) played the full 90 minutes in Cameroon’s 1-1 draw with Zambia.

What to do with this team?

    Pickford/Grant
    Walker, Holebas, Fuchs, Evans, Amat
    Coutinho, Lallana, Sanchez, Allen, Whelan
    Aguero, Lukaku, Costa

How do I bring in Hazard in this team?
    Thinking if downgrading one striker.
    Which one.
    Is KDB necessary?

    Please help.

You could wait. Hazard v Boro who aren't pushovers at all and Lukaku v Swansea.

If Costa is out injured then maybe move him on generating some funds for Hazard?

Costa if injured allows Hazard easily.
Else look Sanchez to Hazard and bank the cash.

During this int break I got some ups and downs. Was so stressed with not having Hazard, but all that stress ended up by surprisingly mature move - no early trasfer.

And guess what - now I think that I'll be saving and not getting Haz until GW15! 🙂

How do you feel, fellow Hazard non-owners? After all those price rases that we left aside. After Sanchez injury and now no injury. After Trump. Do you think Hazard is that fixture proof that we need to have him no matter what, event qhen he's playing MID (looking good defensively) and even worse opponent after?

I'm slightly leaning to not having Haz at the moment. No doubt bringing him in for gw15, though.

Surely Wenger can't risk Sanchez given his comment about it being suicidal?

Thought something similar for a while but ended up doing Sanchez to Hazard at 10.1
Sanchez is a huge risk during the URU game. Once clear we have more info to make a decision either way.

I mean, there are only a few days between the Uruguay game and the Arsenal game - if Wenger says playing him on Tuesday is suicidal, and that he could end up being out for months, the same would apply to a game a few days later especially if he DOES play on Tuesday.

          1. @SirAustinDangerPowers
            • 14 Years
            9 years, 2 months ago

Yup that's what makes him a huge doubt.
Have no doubt Chile start him and play him minimum 60 mins.
And then probably Wenger won't risk him

another brace next weekend and Haz will be a "must have"(next to Cout) If you want to spare some cash, get Haz now over Sanchez. He will at least match him pointwise until GW15.

Holding Sanchez for now. Main rival has De Bruyne (not Hazard) so feeling OK about that so far. Would prefer to keep Sanchez in and switch Mane for Hazard in the next couple of weeks. We'll see. Likely bring Hazard in sooner if Sanchez looks like a problem medium term.

On a WC, who is the best 5th mid for 7.3m max?
    A) Lallana
    B) Pedro
    C) Sigursson
    D) Allen
    E) Gundogan
    F) Snodgrass

    Rest of the team:
    Heaton, Pickford

What would you do with this team?

    Ben Foster / Jordan Pickford
    Friend Coleman Bellerin Fuchs Amat
    Coutinho Sterling Shakiri Capoue Fletcher
    Augero Costa Lukaku

Baring in mind Shakiri, Bellerin and Costa all appear to have chances of not playing. And I have one free transfer going into this game week 12.

    Cheers

      Sort out your midfield.

Shaqiri, Capoue and Fletcher need to go. Probably Sterling as well.

I'd downgrade Bellirin to a 5.5 and Costa to Austin in order to free up cash to invest in your midfield.

You're probably going to be looking at taking a few hits. Better to do it now than lose value on underperforming/injured players.

Is pedro worth considering for chelsea cover? His last 4 outings : 6,13,3,16.
    Worth a punt ?
And out of the chelsea defenders, who is the best pick long term ?

Don't think too much about cover. Get the players that give you points. Hazard and Costa are the best picks, but Pedro offers good value atm. Alonso is the best pick in defense.

    Heaton-Jakup

    Williams/Mustafi/Alonso/Shaw/Love

    Walcott/Hazard/Gundogan/Allen/Capoue

    Austin/Aguero/Lukaku

Hi guys. This is my team. As i am playing only h2h with my friends, and i don't care about overall score, i want to make a lot of transfers, and take a big hit. I'm first in my h2h league, so i don't mind losing one GW to prepare for the upcoming weeks. My plan:

    Heaton/Jakup

    Alonso/Mustafi/Holebas/Kingsley/Love

    Walcott/Lallana/Hazard/Coutinho/Allen

    Ibrahimovic/Austin/Costa

    Thoughts, suggestions?

Lukaku to Costa looks solid, not so sure on Kun to Ibra, risky that one.

Could do with some advice please :
    Heaton / Pickford
    Alonso / Cahill / Blind / Smith / McAuley
    Hazard / Firmino / Coutinho / Allen / Gundogan
    Kun / Defoe / Lukaku

What should be the next move?

Which club do we think likes of Lukaku, Payet and Mahrez will play for next season ?

All are cl quality players and are probably too good for their respective clubs (no disrespect to everton/whu & leicester)

Id fancy Lukaku to ManUtd. upgrade on all of their striker

Ibra.and Rooney is declining and Rashford is too young to lead the line

Would love Lukaku at Man Utd. Not sure it will happen with Jose there though.

Mahrez to Arsenal/CIty & Payet to PSG probably.

It stings a little [not being in European competition], but I'm someone who believes that everything happens for a reason," the 23-year-old said.

"Otherwise I would have gone to Juventus instead of staying at Everton. But I opted for Everton because it was too early for Italy and I have not done badly here."

Lukaku could probably pick his club from any number of teams that suit his style. If he's got any sense he's head for somewhere as the main striker and not a different option for a team that play in the City or Barca style.

I did Fletcher + Lukaku to Hazard + W.Keane already

With 4 south americans, bans and injuries should i make a transfer for a hit?

    Heaton Pickford
    Fuchs Lovren Peiters Holebas! Amat!
    Sanchez! Hazard Firmino Coutinho Walcott
    Aguero Austin W.Keane!

    Amat to Nyom?
    Keane to Anichebe?
    Holebas to Brunt?

Why would you remove lukaku before they play swansea at home.
Hazard is playing a defensively resolute midllesborough.
Wait till the deadline to asses fitness before doing any rash moves.
And also , i dont think either of the moves will make up for definate -4 .
Don't make any transfers imo, better to settle to losing one player.

United aren't exactly pulling up any roots at the moment in the league, and their defence is unsettled

Is he fit or even close to fit ? it all seems incredibly murky . I am not convinced Sanchez is the best judge of his own body .
"Sometimes the manager says to me that I should have a rest, but I say 'I do not want to rest.' I'd rather go home and use the gym in my house to exercise in order to maintain my form." .
Chile seem to be rotating his injury aswell and Wenger was particularly bleak about the whole thing . I think best case scenario if I decide to keep I will be hitting f5 over and over again on Saturday morning

I just need to confirm the font type and size you're using on here. That way, I can format our Chili Bowl presser and my captain can just cut and paste. Without having to reformat.
    Thanks in advance.
