Diego Costa crowns another professional away performance from Antonio Conte’s men as Chelsea run out 1-0 winners over Middlesbrough. Elsewhere, Eden Hazard frustrates, while Marcos Alonso confirms his reputation as the most forward-thinking of defensive options. Here’s the Stock Check following Sunday’s Teesside tussle.

On the Rise

Diego Costa
The Spaniard’s relentless form continued with an opportunistic strike, his tenth of the season and his fifth goal in the last six Gameweeks.

The goal, plus the fact that 10% of FPL managers handed Costa the armband, will again ramp up the pressure on those holding Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku following yesterday’s blanks and with toughening fixtures looming for the pair.

Still sitting on four bookings, Costa has now navigated through six Premier League outings without earning the caution that will trigger a one-match ban. Those who have held off investment on that basis will be beginning to wonder if it will arrive before the Gameweek 19 cut-off.

Costa will now be free to face the Spurs defence in Gameweek 13 and follows that with a crunch trip to the Etihad.

However, from Gameweek 15, Chelsea’s fixtures are nothing short of superb and, assured of starts over the busy Christmas spell, Costa’s stock seems destined to rise further.

While Hazard clearly represents a key midfield investment, the prospect of doubling up on Chelsea’s twin threats looks difficult to resist from Gameweek 15 onwards – barring that potential ban.

Marcos Alonso
The left wing-back has now returned a clean sheet in each of his six starts for Chelsea.

Curiously, Alonso has returned just a single bonus point in that time – mainly because, of all the four FPL defenders fielded, he returns the fewest defensive actions.

However, Alonso’s attacking promise was again evident at the Riverside.

Pushing forward almost as a left winger, he is clearly benefiting from linking with Eden Hazard, with defences distracted by the Belgian’s menace and leaving space for Alonso to exploit.

His end product was lacking and often is, but, given the frequency of his attacks and his presence in the box from both open play and set-pieces, further attacking returns look inevitable.

Coupled with Chelsea’s peerless resilience, Alonso appears to be the obvious top bracket defensive target.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
It’s incredibly harsh to knock Hazard following the first blank in five Gameweeks and, while his form and potential as a Fantasy asset remains far from “in decline”, our confidence in the Belgian as a rounded captain candidate can be questioned.

Having earned a reputation in previous seasons as an asset heavily biased towards home fixtures, he has so far reinforced that theory with his returns to this point. Hazard has now produced just a single goal on his travels: only 28 of his 82 points have arrived on the road.

While that will be a minor concern for most, it’s clear that Hazard is still a work in progress as an all-round candidate for the armband.

He has the advantage over Costa at Stamford Bridge but, home and away, the striker has a clear edge as a reliable and consistent scorer of points. Costa has scored in six of his past seven road trips.

Despite today’s failing, Hazard’s stock has to remain sky-high ahead of Chelsea’s festive fixtures and his place at the top of the Watchlist is untouched.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ok, so how badly do I need Costa?

    A) Koscielny - 5.2 , Lukaku - Costa
    B) Alonso - 4.9 , Lukaku - Costa
    C) Aguero - Costa
    D) Save

    Foster
    Koscielny, Alonso, Holebas
    Hazard, Mane, Coutinho, Sigurdsson
    Aguero, Lukaku, Austin

    Pickford, Capoue, Amat, Pieters

    Thanks

B is madness on paper before two tricky games.
A is chasing for last week s points by dropping Kos before 2-3 great games

I would say do Lukaku to Costa and Capoue to de Roon .
Get that money from there .
Hold Kos for the plum home games then Downgrade him out if he doesn't deliver and get some cash to keep , can use that for upgrading de roon later if Snodgrass hits form or a really good 5.0-5.5 mid comes along if you like .

Costa on 4 yellows and Kane has Chelsea this week.

The worry for me is the rotation that he'll be hit with over Christmas. Someone like Kane is guaranteed to start all those games, barring injury. Aguero is currently a 13m passenger in my team.

How many games is he likely to miss though? Seems unlikely to be more than one, he's still their main man up front.

Kane could get rotated with Janssen, at least into the new year when there's 2 games in quick succession.

Wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't starting for the Watford or Burnley games. I think Janssen is just too bad to start ahead of Kane.

Allen to De Ron and Lukaku to Costa for -4

Bottomed, so sorry for a shameless repost.

    Morning lads.

I've got two free transfers and 0.3 ITB.

    Cech Pickford
    Lovren Morgan Holebas Pieters Amat
    Sanchez Firmino Coutinho Shaqiri Carrick
    Kun Lukaku Deeney

    A) Shaqiri & Lukaku > Snodgrass & Costa
    B) Shaqiri & Lukaku > Zaha & Kane
    C) Shaqiri & Lukaku > Siggy & Giroud
    D) Kun & Lukaku > Kane & Costa

Which one would seem to make most sense to you?

Nobody will say yes to Giroud for sure so if you want to do that one it's do or die mostly on your own instinct .
D is risky on paper but if Spurs vs Chelsea is highscoring it will be a genius move.

A and B look okay as well but I still don't know which 5.5 mid stands out , another week will help you assess more , if snoddy gets a goal next game , you can be sure he won't be affected by hull s bad form if they go into one . Zaha to supply Benteke in a more attacking team might match Snodgrass if he suddenly kicks in .

      1. Cocky Spaniel Alves
        • 14 Years
        9 years, 17 days ago

To be honest I think Giroud will be a step too far in the end.

Kane appeals more in the sense that Costa has the two difficult games coming up plus the 4 yellows. Whereas Kane has only the derby against Chelsea (where he has excelled before), better fixtures, penalties and no impending ban.

But then Zaha is a bigger risk than Snodgrass in my mind.

Oh well, will have to give it more thought. 🙂

I want to be with you but not sure I can bring myself to do it

Spurs aren't keeping clean sheets so I'm happy to have Hazard and Alonso, although I can see why people wouldn't bring in Chelsea assets until GW15 now.

Game week has gone okay, 48 (-8) so far, Bruntino to go

          Yup. Well.....the "half" MOTD challenge.

I watched Man United v Arsenal as I had no FPL players and well....I wanted to watch my team. But around 1:50pm I signed out of Facebook, Twitter etc so I couldn't see line ups and didn't see any results until MOTD.

When I saw Spurs and Man City as the first two games and Everton last I was pretty happy about having Kane and Aguero (c) with the other Scoutcasters all captaining Lukaku.....shame about Yaya 🙂

Need few opinions before reassesing on Friday.

    Currently on:

    Heaton/Pick
    Alonso/Williams/Holebas/Evans/Amat
    Cout/Mane/Hazard/Allen/Capoue
    Kun/Lukaku/Austin

    Im thinking of few possibilites.

    A) Save.
    B) Lukaku -> Giroud (its early but the games cant get much better and his on form. Reports suggest he may be seeing first team soon)
    C) Lukaku -> Kane/Costa (not sold yet on Kane and Costa has yellows. A bad game for both too, but its an option next week or in GW15. Very unlikely this week)
    D) Lukaku + Capoue -> Sanchez/KDB + Anichebe (I dont know. Sanchez has games and KDB brings points every game. Hes injury prone though. And I dont like going with Anichebe into december)
    E) Allen/Capoue -> Chadli (0.2 off Siggy. Obviously have to wait if hes not injured but I like Chadli. Hes a great player. Im losing the bank for the Kaku -> Costa/Kane moves though
    F) Williams -> Cedric (Everton sucks. Thats it.)

Im currently leaning towards saving or punting on Giroud. Probably saving though.

We're entering a big rotation period over December so I would avoid rotating proce players such as Giroud. Lukaku is super nailed and you will need starters during X-mas time. Of course Giroud can outscore Lukaku by playing hald of his minutes but you have to consider stats first. And stats start by gametime

      1. CloudSky

Thats true. Could be a short punt just looking at next three games. GW15 is where Im going Costa probably.

Hmm Decide whether you want D or not , if you don't like Anichebe moving into December you can't choose that out of 5 options and casually move into 3-5-2 half heartedly.

I would save , I would do C since the prices are rising and one of those will mostly score , up to you to decide whether you want Costa who is 0.3 cheaper and has 2 tricky games or Kane who is costlier and has 3 plum home games after this .
Idk if you're planning on Aguero out and getting both .

      1. CloudSky
        • 9 Years

That should be my first choice yeah, between 352 and 343. Feel more confident with the latter, but on the other hand, gut is telling me to get Sanchez when everyone is selling him. That means no Costa/Kane/Ibra for the future though if Im not going Kunless. I dont know. Maybe Ill know more on Friday.

To be fair its very possible I do captain him as I wouldnt be able to pick between Mane and Firmino for Pool, and I dont trust Wally atm. Although I have a sneaky feeling Giroud is going to start and score a hat trick so I might go full maverick and bring him in for Lukaku and captain him

Thinking of an 8 point hit to radically change my team for the next Cycle i feel is nearly upon us.

Costa > Kakku - goes without saying

Ibra > Aggy - the tough one... but it funds my cheap 5th mid (below) to a proven Fantasty Footie Asset. Ibra will come good and his stats and fixtures look to tempting.

Waly > Gundogan - i need arsenal cover - i feel they will score 4 + against Bourn ar Home

    Alonso / Lovren / Stones / Brunt / Amat
Hazard / Firmino / Coutinho / Gundogan / de Roon
    Kun / Lukaku / Austin

    2FT, 2.3m itb

    A. Gundogan -> Walcott and save FT

Pedro is nailed and might be an easy way to keep the likes of Sanchez Firmino Coutinho KDB without looking for the Redmonds and the Snoddies who haven't done nothing much so far.

Sure Pedro won't get to play the whole match, Willian should get some time outs as he was left out of the team mostly because he doesn't suit the formation and his playing style as well. But Willian wasn't in a poor form to lose the spot he was scoring at times but Pedro is getting in the starting line-ups and should rack up some points soon.

If you have seen the Middlesbrough vs Chelsea match, you would realize the kind of space Pedro is getting. Seems Hazard would only score when he is cutting in and shooting. But its the likes of Pedro and sometimes Moses who is getting more and more open shots and some shots in the box as well. Pedro hit the post and forced a World Class save out of Valdes to not have 2 goals. On 9/10 days, should have had a goal or two that match.

Willian is the biggest worry for Pedro, but its unlikely Chelsea changes this anytime soon. Willian is very slow on his decision making, Pedro is quick there. His linkup play with Moses. Costa, Hazard is improving every match and he should see his position locked in for the days to come.

Don't get rid of Hazard for Pedro, get rid of your Cheapie for Pedro to keep Sanchez Firmino Coutinho before their delightful fixtures end.

Doubt it. Willian is just not suitable for that Right Forward esque position. He didn't even come on for Pedro last match. Chalobah got a run out instead.
