Nothing can be taken for granted this season.

Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet, Sergio Aguero’s ability to fluctuate from a frustrating liability to an essential goal machine and the Liverpool midfield: blessed with brilliance and then cruelly cursed by misfortune.

It was Manchester City who provided the early rise and fall on today’s rollercoaster, first reassuring some with Aguero’s presence on the teamsheet, while disappointing owners of Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan.

Then Aguero took over.

Like Harry Kane in Gameweek 12, he transformed the most ordinary team performance into a personal haul that revived his stock and forced an immediate re-assessment of plans.

Strategies were re-written with Aguero’s brace, only to be torn up by the events that were to follow at Anfield.

We had such expectations of Jurgen Klopp’s attacking three against Sunderland but, when the whistle blew on Merseyside, we were left mainly with blanks, and the scars of Roberto Firmino hobbling off and Phillipe Coutinho stretchered from the field.

Following minor concerns for the Brazilian and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard over the international break, this latest setback appears far more significant.

We should perhaps wait on a scan and the full prognosis but, already the reaction to Coutinho’s agony has been marked: he tops the Fantasy Premier League “transfers out” column and will surely continue to shed owners before we know the true extent of the damage.

A possible tragedy in Liverpool’s superb season, for some Fantasy managers, the loss of Coutinho will be a game changer that opens up a new and all too convenient strategy.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s relentless form that continued today in a dramatic 5-4 Swansea City victory lifts the Icelander to the forefront of our transfer thinking.

Along with Chelsea’s Pedro, he will surely vie to replace a potentially stricken Coutinho and, in doing so, free up funds to investigate Diego Costa, or more likely, the Harry Kane option in attack.

Those previously considering an exit for Aguero, myself included, may now be presented with an alternative route.

The 33% owned Romelu Lukaku could now be sacrificed with funds liberated from Coutinho’s sale providing a means to acquire Kane.

Aguero, thanks to his goals and a cruel twist of fate at Anfield, could now be locked in once again.

The City striker, along with the unfortunate Coutinho, were part of a turbulent day that offered a stark reminder to all of just how quickly fortunes can shift.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I can see the Spurs giving the Swans a good hiding next GW. Might be worth bringing in a Spurs midfielder for Coutinho even if just for 1 match. Swans are a shambles at the moment

Alli is the most advanced Spurs midfielder. Sure, Eriksen is on set pieces, but they aren't great at the moment. Alli will be in the assists/goals like he was last year

Same here, can't do Austin to Kane, can't just sell Aguero or Costa for Kane.

Yeah, I was in the basket of deplorables planning to eject Kun for Kane this week...not now!

Can't sell Kun...can't contemplate selling Costa unless the banhammer comes down on him.

No way to upgrade Anichebe to Kane 🙂

Not willing to jettison Hazard, already had Siggy for a month and lovin it, Still got Firmino as 'pool cover. Don't want Mane.

So it's Coutinho to either Spurs or Arsenal...can afford Alli, Eriksen, Walcott, Rambo...could make Ozil with a hit.

It's got Alli written all over it.

It isn't even a debate, they have to change it.

It would help me admittedly, but there is an Amat assist for an earlier goal as well. It is debatable, but given what we have seen this season then there have been many given far more dubious than that.

Red arrows the past few weeks. Squad looks like:
      Heaton/Pickford
      Kosclieny / Cedric / Holebas / Evans / Amat
      Hazard / Mané / Coutinho / Allen / Capoue
      Aguero / Costa / Austin

      A. Hazard + Austin --> Sigurdson + Kane -4?

Looks like you have spent pretty much bare minimum on your defence tbh. Only thing you could do would be to downgrade another defender like Smith to Love to save yourself 0.7 and use that to upgrade your keeper, but then you would have two defenders that are not guaranteed to start, and play for terribly leaking teams at the back . Its only Spurs and Chelsea that have conceded the least goals so really you want 5.6 for Courtois or 5.5 for Lloris. Or you could upgrade your reserve keeper to Heaton who is 4.8 and rotate him with Pickford.

As much as I understand, Liverpool's upcoming fixtures are too plum for me to be totally convinced that Kane will outscore Mane or Firm in those games.

Reasoning for Firmino selling rather than Mane, is that Mane plays further forward

        Mané, but wouldn't drop either.

I was on this, but Leicester man. If you can, hold on to Kun for that. That's a 25 pointer.

I really don't think that's the 25 pointer, but than I'll get punished if it is.

(People told me Ibra will punish me against Stoke and Couts would do the same against Sunderland...guess I'm lucky in that way - till it runs out I'm gonna push it.)

Hmm, Leicester are conceding 2 goals a game against Brom, Watford and Middlesborough. Dreadful as a Fuchs owner. 25 points is an exaggeration obviously, but boy, unless he gets rotated, that's a sureshot haul. Ibra was not in form, so people were hopeful. Can't say about Cout. I don't own him myself and went for Mane because I don't see Cout as a goalscorer.

Really undecided over Lovren or Cedric in for Stones.

Need to do the move tonight as can't afford the drop.

If Cedric had already played I'd probably go for him.

Do we think Pool will keep the clean sheets going? Stats look alright.

I was thinking exactly the same thing about an hour ago. I went for Lovren based on the fact that Cedric hasnt played yet and could be get injured or sent off and Lovern has played and is fine. Cedrics fixtures look better than Lovrens though.

That is basically it isn't it! Lovren seems the safer move. Cheers for the reply.

I want to do so many transfers, but not many are too appealing to do this GW!

      Hold for now...? 2FTs...

      Heaton*, Jaku*
      Kosc, Fuchs, Holebas, Evans, Amat,
      Sanchez, Firm, Mane, Allen, Fletcher,
      Kun, Lukaku, Austin.

      Siggy was immense today.

In a perfect world he would have scored one and had four assists! What´s that for fpl points? 🙂

      Final question tonight gents:

      Coutinho and Lukaku ->

      A) Alli / Eriksen and Kane
      B) Siggy and Kane

If I do A, I have the funds to afford Allen -> Siggy next week

A definitely, you don't want Allen long term
