With the dust barely settled from the weekend’s action, Gameweek 17 is upon us immediately and we’ve still the small matter of announcing the Round Five fixtures for the Paddy Power Cup V. Before that however, let’s take a minute to reflect on the results from Round Four, which can be viewed right here. The headlines…

A brand new name will be etched onto the mythical Cup, as reigning champ Ninja_Fit_Saints become the fourth and final former winner to meet his match. Mayhey Kid took the scalp 56 – 39, to complete the four-week demise of the Cup royalty.

There’s no stopping Mark though, who dispatched Hassyg 72 – 55 booking his place in the last 64. That score of 72 earned the Scout leader a bronze medal for the week, bettered only by Dyslexia United‘s 73 (- 32 Tommytabs123) and Milton Millieiscos‘ top-scoring 77 (- 46 F.Y.F.B).

Now, onto the fifth round draw… The 32 fixtures are available to peruse right here.

The highest-ranked fantasy manager left in the competition is non other than Der-Hammer95, sitting a hugely impressive 356th overall. He comes up against s4petah, who beat the round three top-scorer at the weekend.

Mark’s fine run looks set to continue, as he has drawn the lowest-ranked manager left in the competition, Mighty Manchester.

Good luck to all 64 participants, and we’ll bring you the results and subsequent fixtures in plenty of time before the Boxing Day Premier League games.

    Play Simpson or Eagles?

I generally don't like playing 4-3-3 but Simpson has a home game and Eagles has Blackburn who are unlikely to keep a clean sheet

Its the classic risk vs return argument. Simpson probably safer, but a lot of potential upside playing Eagles.

Just did a 12 point hit.

    Nani > Valencia
    R. Tailor > Baines
    Bale > Drenthe
    Some stoke defender > Skrtel

    Leaving me with:

    Krul
    Baines/Jones/Skrtel
    Drenthe/Brunt/Valencia/Silva
    Suarez/Ba/Van Persie

    (Vorm/Allen/Tailor/Barnett)

What do you guys think? 🙂

I'm generally against taking hits for defenders but this seems a reasonable move given x-mas rotation and if you're planning on holding off on your WC until the end of January, making these transfers more medium term than short.

Considering 5 man defence. Not done so far this season. But CS potential for all.

    Baines, Evans, Kompany, Enrique, Simpson.

    Good Idea?

    Other players

Silva, Nani, Walters, Arteta, Van Persie, Ba, Graham and eagles

3 Benched so far - Eagles, Graham & Walters.

Hi.. Decision time. I got Dyer injured and Bale doubt for this gwk.

    Krul
    Simpson - Jones - Enrique
    Nani - Silva - Mata - Bale?
    Ade - Ba - RvP
Sub: Vorm ; Naylor, Brown, Dyer

Naylor (eve) or Brown (qpr) will come to play. Should I do any transfer now?

    1. Brown > Evans ... Hard to get CS this week, but this could save me 0.1m to get him later.
    2. Dyer > Moses ... Poor fixtures. But guaranteed to start in budget of 4.6m.

You Sir, are in the enviable position of not needing to make a transfer whilst at the same time having two free trades.

There is nothing that immediately warrants changing. I'd wait & see if 'Arry rules out Bale. If so Bale put Nani/Valencia in.

That said, you might be looking to bring in Bale real soon.

I keep flipping between Ba and RVP this weekend for the (C)..... What are you guys doing and more importantly what are some accompanying thoughts? Some points I've gathered so far:

    - RVP's anytime goalscorer odds are better (1.83 vs 2.10).
    - Newcastle's overall odds are better (higher odds of scoring).
    - Newcastle is playing at home, Arsenal away
    - Cabaye is banned for 1 match, which could be less servicing for Ba.
    - Aston Villa (Thus Arsenal) conceded 2 corners this weekend against Liverpool. They clearly have issues with set pieces. RVP takes loads of corners and set pieces.
    - Watching both players, Ba looks very very dangerous in the box and slightly edges RVP

    Any others?

Silva worth considering. Not that I would mind you.

      RVP then Ba for me.

Am I right to get rid of Micah Richards for Vermaelen?

if you're not taking a hit and not losing too much elsewhere from the extra funds you spend on verm, then yes.

ars fixtures over next 6 are marginally better than mcy, and verm provides a significantly increased goal threat over kompany.

sorry you were talking about richards. the attacking returns argument is blunted a bit, but i still think verm edges it.

but also monitor the strike situation carefully. ars play thrice in london between GWs 18 and 21, mcy not at all.

    Hello!

Do you think it worth swapping Ageuro, Walters, Smalling to Helguson, Nani, Baines and taking a 4 point hit?

      Definitely not!

Aguero will get you good points, Walters is consistent and Smalling has great fixtures coming up. Can you not manage Aguero to Rooney?

I already also got Jones and Evans in the team and want to ease up on utd defs +I really want Baines and Nani into the them +(i've convinced myself at least that) helguson could be a great differential

Close match up in round 5 of the PP cup. Both currently sat on exactly the same overall score (894). Here is the likely match up before this week's transfers - who's your money on?

Me: Westwood, Vermaelen, Ramsey, Nani, Sinclair, Suarez
Him: Krul, Enrique, Samba, Bale, B Johnson, Aguero

That'll be very close, I think you should take a risk with your captaincy by going for Suarez over RVP
