With the dust barely settled from the weekend’s action, Gameweek 17 is upon us immediately and we’ve still the small matter of announcing the Round Five fixtures for the Paddy Power Cup V. Before that however, let’s take a minute to reflect on the results from Round Four, which can be viewed right here. The headlines…

A brand new name will be etched onto the mythical Cup, as reigning champ Ninja_Fit_Saints become the fourth and final former winner to meet his match. Mayhey Kid took the scalp 56 – 39, to complete the four-week demise of the Cup royalty.

There’s no stopping Mark though, who dispatched Hassyg 72 – 55 booking his place in the last 64. That score of 72 earned the Scout leader a bronze medal for the week, bettered only by Dyslexia United‘s 73 (- 32 Tommytabs123) and Milton Millieiscos‘ top-scoring 77 (- 46 F.Y.F.B).

Now, onto the fifth round draw… The 32 fixtures are available to peruse right here.

The highest-ranked fantasy manager left in the competition is non other than Der-Hammer95, sitting a hugely impressive 356th overall. He comes up against s4petah, who beat the round three top-scorer at the weekend.

Mark’s fine run looks set to continue, as he has drawn the lowest-ranked manager left in the competition, Mighty Manchester.

Good luck to all 64 participants, and we’ll bring you the results and subsequent fixtures in plenty of time before the Boxing Day Premier League games.

Looks good but hope drenthe plays. Not really keen on moses as a first sub so you really need the whole 11 to play.

    _________________Krul (WBA)___________________

___Jones (ful)_____ Enrique (wig)_____ Ward (NOR)___

Silver (STO)____ Nani (ful)____Eagles (bla)____ Barfa (WBA)

__RVPc (AVL)____ Rooney (ful)____ Adebayor (CHE)__

    Subs: Westwood/ Caulker, Gower, Wilko

My main issues this week are Ward, Eagles and Barfa. I plan on saving a transfer and using the 2 frees to sort if out next GW, sound plan? Is the team decent enough for this week, Caulker is a more than able sub against Everton this weekend

spent FT on drenthe in for cabaye. not thinking it’s worth a hit to bring evans in for ward. can probably hold off until after kickoff tonight. agreed?

Alright chaps, anyone care to cast judgement on the following. Had two freebies, already done O'Hara to Gomez so still have one left; seems like an odd transfer but wanna free up some cash in case I need Rooney and Gomez is in hot form:

    Robinson, (Ruddy),
    Simpson, Evans, Baines, Kompany, (Taylor),
    Silva, Nani, Gomez, (Sinclair), (Walters),
    Sturridge, Adebayor, RVP

Thinking about maybe Drenthe or something like that, or I could just keep the extra free for next week. Have I got the starting line up right?

    Cheers

Your lineup looks good as it is, if you do bring in Drenthe (and I like him), then you will have a tougher time picking your starting 11, at least this week.

Hey guys... how do these transfers look, I have two freebies and .4 in the bank.

    ShawX > Evans
Allen > Shelvey (I think I have the depth to take on a short term risk, yeah?)

    Krul(Vorm)
    Enrique,Baines,Jones,(Caulker,SHAWX)
    Silva,Nani,Drenthe,Walters(ALLEN)
    RVP,Ade,Sturridge.

If the swaps are made Walters would drop to the bench and Shelvey would come in for this GW... Evans would be first D sub.

Thanks all.. Vorm is tempting as he will play Everton who missed to score at home most. But the Drenthe factor make me stick to my home GK rule. Simpson have been in good form too, so I think I shouldn't keep him out of starting team.

Btw, Evans ahead of Naylor should give me more chance for CS. Although it's hard for United at Fulham.

Anyone know if Moreira or Tremmel is Swansea’s best backup keeper?

I’ve got Vorm and I’m thinking of tanking my substitute goalkeeper until the January wildcard to save some cash. If I’m just bringing in a cheap keeper without any intention to play him then I may as well bring in Swansea’s backup (either 3.9 or 4.0) because then I have cover if Vorm gets injured.

*Sorry for duplicate post, I put this in the wrong article first time.

That would be a good long term option for sure, but the idea was that this would just be for a few weeks up until after the double gameweek when I would wildcard. I could stomach Vorm for that long as his fixtures are just about acceptable in the short term. Either 4.0 or 3.9 in the substitute keeper spot would allow me to treble up on Spurs players/bring in Hibbert at the back.

The only real risk I see is that Vorm gets injured and I end up without a keeper.

    Nani//VDV//Dyer//Silva//Eagles
    Adebayor//RVP//Sturridge

.5 in the bank and two freebies.

I am thinking Eagles OUT Drenthe IN and/or Dyer OUT Moses IN, basically, I can put Eagles and Dyer on the bench this week and hope Silva plays, if not, Eagles comes on and maybe only gets 45 minutes, but you never know. Dyer is obviously out, whereas Eagles not necessarily. So I could just use one and see what happens and have a carry over free transfer to get me through the Christmas chaos. Any thoughts?

    Hi all,

Thinking ahead to GW 18-20. Trying to squeeze Rooney into my from line of RVP, Ba & Adebayor. Rooney with the armband for said two weeks looks an exceedingly tempting prospect.

Ba out Rooney in would seem to be the most logical. However, this would mean Silva (marvellous player) would have to be sacrificed to generate the necessary £.

On paper it looks worth it to me. Would leave me with no City attacking coverage though.

    Thoughts please.

Would Silva being sacrificed for Adam Johnson give you the sufficient funds for Ba > Rooney

I have a good feeling about AJ getting a start, and a sub appearance in the 2 games after Stoke. Most of his attacking points have come off the bench too

I'd only look to bring Nani in again due to tasty fixtures & he's more of an explosive player than Silva.

This might sound like heresy - Silva is a 'steady eddy' kind of player. Always (ok mostly) good for 5 - 8 PPG.

Question is would the money tied up in Silva be better spent elsewhere? Could do a lot with that £.

    Team for midweek:

    Al Habsi
    Jones, Enrique, Verminator
    Nani, Silva (VC), Drenthe, Walters
    RVP (C), Ade, Yaks

    (Vorm / BAE, Gower, Shawcross)

Any suggestions on who to play captain, vice and bench order....

I will be captaining RVP as well, I like the bench, BUT I would not VC Silva as he is most likely to get benched, and while unlikely, it's also not impossible that RVP be benched, so I would play it safe and VC Ade.

Was thinking about that too...but I would give the VC to The Yaks just in case he decides to score 5! Hahaha.

So I need to get rid of Dyer and Eagles and I have .5 in the bank and two free transfers (team linked), I am actually thinking of sparing one of them to carry on another week and doing Dyer OUT Gomez IN, now I know Wigan have rubbish fixtures, but i just need a full squad playing, and while I do want Drenthe IN for Eagles, I am .2 short of that move as it stands, which is crap, because it would be awesome to be able to do Dyer and Eagles OUT Gomez/Moses and Drenthe IN, but I am .1 short or .2/.3 short of the double move in each case.

Any thoughts? Way I see it is that Eagles will still get some game time if I really need him, and I am hoping Silva plays like everyone else.

Wigan have horrible games coming up so Dyer > Gower could get the odd assist like he has been doing. Seems to rotate positions from behind the striker Graham and also as a defensive mid. He is @ 4.5 many people are transferring in....only problem isthat he is sometimes subbed but seems to play every game. I would have recommended a Norwich mid but they rotate like crazy and would not help your cause.

    RMT please guys:

    Krul
    Simpson, Brown, Jones, Enrique
    Drenthe, Nani, Silva
    Ba, Adebayor, RVP

    Bench: Vorm, Gower, Walters, Ward

    1. I have one free transfer and 0.4 in the bank. Any obvious transfers that I'm missing? I know I don't really have any differentials, just the main generic people. I know Drenthe is a concern. Anyway, would love to hear people's opinions.

Save your transfer. No main concerns, play Walters instead of Brown maybe....or put Walters as first sub just because he takes penalty's. Stoke are horrible scoring goals away specially against tough opposition but still you never know....

I posted above above Drenthe and the feedback was Drenthe 1st sub, but given you have Walters at Man City I would be playing the team just as you have it. Save the transfer so you can use two next GW.

Who have you got playing in this evening's games, if any?

I can see plenty of goals in that game. Both have terrible defences.
Off topic - did you see Frank Mir break Nogueira's arm? 😀

Yeah it was crazy! I could not believe it, should have tapped. I guess Nogueira did not wan't to loose.

Jon Jones will be very tough to beat! Turned it around in a few seconds and boom won the fight.

Thoughts on these transfers over the next 3 GW's

    GW17: Bale to Nani
GW18: Mata to Walters and Welbeck to Adebayor
    GW19: Ba to Sturridge.

I just saw that! Bloody annoying, I was about to bring Evans in... I just don't like him nearly as much at 4.5. I figured I was at least an hour ahead of the price change. This inconsistency is really annoying.

Ah, I am in Canada... the time change a few weeks back must have messed me up, I swear it was normally 9:30 PM, now it's 7:30... Either way, the inconsistency is annoying, it should be about the same all season.

Yep same for me. I know it's only 0.1, but it makes all the difference. There's got to be a cut off point for budget players, and 4.5 was it for me.
