Two of the lowest scoring teams clash at the Riverside Stadium to create a predictable outcome, as a single set-piece delivery and far post header decide matters. Here’s the Stock Check from Gameweek 14’s final encounter.

On the Rise

Gaston Ramirez
Always the most likely member of Middlesbrough’s midfield to emerge as a potential Fantasy asset, the Uruguayan was their star performer on the night and proved a worthy matchwinner.

Ramirez has now provided two goals and an assist in his last four starts, although ‘Boro’s continued lack of cutting edge remains a major obstacle.

Aitor Karanka’s men have scored just 13 goals in their 14 Premier League matches and will likely continue to rely on defensive stability to earn them points.

While that’s the case, Ramirez seems destined to provide a short-term differential and little more. To compound matters, he appeared to suffer a knock to his foot which saw him withdrawn in the dying stages.

The Middlesbrough Defence
Far more likely to provide with an asset for the remainder of the season, Karanka’s back five earned a fourth clean sheet of the season this evening, albeit against a largely unambitious and impotent Hull City attack.

With George Friend sidelined, skipper Ben Gibson has proved the most popular target in the ‘Boro backline and he justified that tonight by claiming two bonus points taking him to 53 overall. Surprisingly, that’s just 8 points shy of Kyle Walker, the top-ranked Fantasy Premier League defender.

With Southampton and Liverpool up next, we can perhaps wait to invest in Karanka’s rearguard. However, from Gameweek 17, the fixtures fall nicely.

Should Friend, now priced at just 4.4, be fit and available at that point, he could prove to be a key acquisition.

In Decline

Robert Snodgrass
A third consecutive Gameweek without returns has seen the Scot fade as a fourth midfield option.

So integral to Hull City’s attacking potential via his dead-ball delivery, Snodgrass has been unable to shine as others around him struggle.

With just a single goal in their last three and with Hull’s fixture list stiffening over the festive spell, Snodgrass is being swallowed up by alternative midfield options in and around his price point.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I did A, making Allen my fifth mid. Id suggest a -8 to upgrade Cap, or Allen so they're riding the bench as first sub most weeks.

Gonna keep for a while longer, think a strong defence is gonna be a big differential. Arsenal will get clean sheets sooner or later and you know he's always a goal threat.

I've decided Moses and Alonso will have to be forgotten for now

Going to do Capoue to Siggy for a -4
    So I can bench Rondon

    Pickford (Foster)

    Amat, Holebas, Cedric (Morgan,McCauley)

    Sanchez,Siggy, Hazard, Firmino, Eriksen

    Kane, Austin (Rondon)

    Any objections ? ,

Siggy not close to a rise so I can wait right ?

I had Friend all season until I wildcarded this week. Dearly wanted to keep hold of him, but I just got frustrated with his niggling injury.

I was going to wait, but Boro have been keeping clean sheets against big teams, so it's certainly an option.

Should I do Walcott, Firmino --> Sanchez, Lallana for -8? My thought is that Lallana will be an important player for Liverpool in Coutinho's absence. However, moves feel a bit sideways and I'm uncertain as to whether it is a good idea. Advice please!

I can easily see Walker being rotated against HUL and wat. Do you agree?
      This is their schedule:

      07 Dec CSKA CL (H)
      11 Dec United (A)
      14 Dec Hull (H)
      18 Dec Burnley (H)

@aguerosol You think Walker will only be rotated in 1 GW with that schedule? Even if that is the case, I miss out on a CS against BUR while Alonso plays Palace away

            • 9 Years
            9 years, 2 months ago

No, he may miss others, I haven't followed Poch's rotation policy / Walker's injuries as I shipped Walker out on WC GW4 and kept Baines. Error! Just thought that Trippier may get to play his old club.

One premium defender for another for a hit if you feel you can't wait a week, price changes etc. I would be doing a non playing defender to Alonso for a hit this week if I didn't want Siggy. But that's because I have a pap defence.

        Can't stretch it, 1.8m short .
Don't mind taking a hit as I have been v conservative up to now and think team needs fresh legs for a while

    Done Kun > Costa

    Should I do for -4:
    Allen > 7.7 MID
    or
    Deeney > 9.4 FOR

Quite a few. I might downgrade Austin if in the mood.

For me it comes down to:

Aguero, Walcott, Williams > Iheanacho, Sanchez, Alonso

        Or

        Aguero, Williams > Costa, Alonso

How would you fit Alonso into this team without losing Vert?

    Pickford Heston
    Vert Evans Pieters Francis Amat
    Sanchez Hazard Firmino Siggy DeRoon
    Costa Kane Austin

Can't be done unless you're willing to downgrade a big boy.

only option i'd consider is downgrade Firmino to Can and upgrade Evans/Pieters/ Francis to Alsonso
