Two of the lowest scoring teams clash at the Riverside Stadium to create a predictable outcome, as a single set-piece delivery and far post header decide matters. Here’s the Stock Check from Gameweek 14’s final encounter.

On the Rise

Gaston Ramirez
Always the most likely member of Middlesbrough’s midfield to emerge as a potential Fantasy asset, the Uruguayan was their star performer on the night and proved a worthy matchwinner.

Ramirez has now provided two goals and an assist in his last four starts, although ‘Boro’s continued lack of cutting edge remains a major obstacle.

Aitor Karanka’s men have scored just 13 goals in their 14 Premier League matches and will likely continue to rely on defensive stability to earn them points.

While that’s the case, Ramirez seems destined to provide a short-term differential and little more. To compound matters, he appeared to suffer a knock to his foot which saw him withdrawn in the dying stages.

The Middlesbrough Defence
Far more likely to provide with an asset for the remainder of the season, Karanka’s back five earned a fourth clean sheet of the season this evening, albeit against a largely unambitious and impotent Hull City attack.

With George Friend sidelined, skipper Ben Gibson has proved the most popular target in the ‘Boro backline and he justified that tonight by claiming two bonus points taking him to 53 overall. Surprisingly, that’s just 8 points shy of Kyle Walker, the top-ranked Fantasy Premier League defender.

With Southampton and Liverpool up next, we can perhaps wait to invest in Karanka’s rearguard. However, from Gameweek 17, the fixtures fall nicely.

Should Friend, now priced at just 4.4, be fit and available at that point, he could prove to be a key acquisition.

In Decline

Robert Snodgrass
A third consecutive Gameweek without returns has seen the Scot fade as a fourth midfield option.

So integral to Hull City’s attacking potential via his dead-ball delivery, Snodgrass has been unable to shine as others around him struggle.

With just a single goal in their last three and with Hull’s fixture list stiffening over the festive spell, Snodgrass is being swallowed up by alternative midfield options in and around his price point.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Which one to do

Firmino did blank but still a good option. Much better football player than Mane imo. Still Sanchez is a ticking bomb but won't score big next week I suposse so Firmino!:)

    Who would you bench:

    Zaha (hull)
    Austin (MID)
    Siggy (SUN)

Initially benching Zaha. However, I think Southampton may have some difficulties breaking down boro's defence. And Zaha may get some points against an awful hull. Inclined to bench Austin now.

    Thoughts?

    0FT:
    Bank: 1.1

    Pickford
    Walker - Evans- Cedric
    Sanchez (c) - Eriksen - Pedro - Sigurdsson
    Aguero - Lukaku - Austin
Subs: Pickford, Capoue, Pieters and Amat.

Whom should I get for Aguero? Kane, I would like to get but 3 Tottenham players would be too much.

    What do you think?

Need to get shot of Aguero quick, not sure of the best way.

    A) Aguero & Stones & Moses > Kane & Alonso & 6.3m mid (Gaston Ramirez?)
    B) Aguero & Stones & Moses > Defoe & Alonso & 9.6m mid (Walcott/Sigurdsson/Mane?)
    C) Something else entirely.

    Grant/Valdes
    Stones/Pieters/Holebas/Daniels/Amat
    Alexis/Hazard/Milner/Moses/Allen
    Austin/Costa/Aguero

Don't want to take -4, but think I need to in order to get a Chelsea defender in over Moses. Thoughts?

Guys, first post on here. Here's my team:

    Forster, (Pickford)
    Holebas, McAuley, Alonso, (Dawson), (Kingsley)
    Sanchez, Hazard, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, (Capoe)
    Costa, Kane, Austin

Am I going to get stung for skimping on defence? Just can't see many premium defenders keeping consistent clean sheets this season but not sure if stats/fixtures/experience suggest that'll change.

It's not as cheap as mine, I haven't got Alonso. I tend to stay cheap until after Christmas, it seems like the top teams tighten up then.

Could be wrong with that but it's how I'm thinking anyway!

    Took a -8
Took a -4 and also took a -8 this gw to stop the slide.

Should I feel a bit more optimistic with this team bar a defencive tweak or two.

    Pickford
    Alonso, A.smith , holebas
    Firmino, hazard, siggy, sanchez
    Kane, Costa, Austin
    (capoue, nyom,amat)

I'm in the same boat (well more or less, a smaller red arrow: this week from 3k to 13k)

But this front 7 combined with Alonso should give us a big advantage compared to those with lower TV!

Same front 7 for me too after much surgery! Had to be done though. I'd quite happily field that 7 for the next few Gameweeks without need to change bar injury or rotation. Let's hope the big hauls are just around the corner for us! Good luck

I was thinking along the same lines yesterday- easily done after a bad GW. I've decided to just do Kun & Wally to Kane & Sanchez for a -4 and stick with Stones for one more week (which I seem to have been saying for months now!)

Maybe Eriksen for me. Also might get Payet or Carroll as differential. Yep, Boro defender looks good. Its a shame Friend is injured on my bench when I would have played him. If Mkhi can nail down a spot, he could be a great diff with those fixtures

Gundogan to Sanchez leaves me with £7.2 for an Aguero replacement, unless I take another 4pt hit and lose Holebas for ake or someone similar.

Still McAuley. Liverpool can't defend. I know WBA still haven't been as good as they can be, but they are still better at the back than Pool. McAuley also has one of the biggest heads around.

Had a good GW14 having captained Sanchez while all the others above me in my ML didn't have him at all. But I've noticed that most of them have now taken -4 or -8 hits (probably getting Sanchez in), so wondering if I should do the same to keep pace. My current team:

    Grant Pickford
    Walker McAuley Holebas Pieters Amat
    Sanchez Hazard Firmino Sigurdsson Capoue
    Kane Austin Anichbe

    0FT £5.8m in the bank

Had been planning to go without Kane and use this week's FT to get Alonso, but used it to ship Aguero for Kane on Saturday night. With the extra budget, I'm now tempted to get Costa as well. What do you think would be best?

    A) Pieters -> Alonso for a -4
    B) Austin -> Costa for a -4
    C) A+B for a -8
    D) Different transfer(s)
    E) No transfers!

If both Alonso and Costa rise tonight, and Pieters and Austin don't rise, I'll be priced out of option C. I'm fairly happy to lose Pieters but not sure on letting go of Austin, as Southampton have great fixtures but on the other hand he may be a rotation risk...

With Agüero(c), and a few more zeros and minuset in board as well, I got burned real bad in my mini leagues by especially Sanchez, Eriksen, Kane, Costa. Unfortunately this in turn made me losing my marbles, thus taking a -12 hit for
Lovren, De Roon, Agüero, Vardy ---> Alonso, Sanchez, Costa, Origi.

    Pickford,Grant
    Kosc, Holebas, Alonso, (Huth, Cameron)
    Firmino, Mane, Sanchez, Hazard, (Phillips),
    Anichebe, Costa, Origi.

Heavy reliance on Chelsea and Liverpool. Two yellow flags. No Spurs or City. And the minus 12 handicaps. Wish me luck...

Anyone else herr taking risks with big hits this week?

    Guys...

Do you think it's worth investing in Man U defence. I brought Jones in...seems like a possible bargain. They have nice fixtures over Christmas I reckon.
