Suspensions

The FA have this evening confirmed Luis Suarez has been found guilty of racial misconduct towards Patrice Evra and have handed the Liverpool forward an eight-match ban and a fine of £40,000, pending appeal.

The Independent Regulatory Commission announced the decision as follows:
1. Mr Suarez used insulting words towards Mr Evra during the match contrary to FA Rule E3(1);
2. the insulting words used by Mr Suarez included a reference to Mr Evra’s colour within the meaning of Rule E3(2);
3. Mr Suarez shall be warned as to his future conduct, be suspended for eight matches covering all first team competitive matches and fined the sum of £40,000;
4. the [penalty] is suspended pending the outcome of any appeal lodged by Mr Suarez against this decision.

The fourth point here is crucial- the Merseyside club have 14 days in which to contest the decision, which means that Suarez is available for selection over the next fortnight. The length of time until appeal takes in four Premier League games- (wig, BLA, NEW, mcy) – and with Kenny Dalglish’s side struggling for goals right now, there’s every chance that, for as long as the club feel he is in the right frame of mind, Suarez will take part in these games.

Liverpool have since released a strongly worded statement this evening and it’s pretty obvious, upon reading, that not only are they firmly behind their player, they will also be appealing this decision. The following excerpt sums up their thoughts:

It seems incredible to us that a player of mixed heritage should be accused and found guilty in the way he has based on the evidence presented. We do not recognise the way in which Luis Suarez has been characterised. Nothing we have heard in the course of the hearing has changed our view that Luis Suarez is innocent of the charges brought against him and we will provide Luis with whatever support he now needs to clear his name.

With the suspension on hold until after the outcome of any appeal, then, it’s impossible to speculate what games Suarez could potentially miss. Given that the FA have taken two months to reach this decision, it’s fair to say the likely appeal won’t be rapidly resolved.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

          Glad I'm not alone. Seems to say that Uruguayans use these words all the time in a friendly way, but then that obviously Suarez wasn't using it in a friendly manner. And then starts saying FA needs to lead the world in anti-racism by being lenient on Evra. Just makes no sense at all!

        His 'point' was that the word he was meant to have said is not seen as racist in South America, and so only Suarez himself can possibly know if he intended it to be racist or not.

            Yeah he kinda lost me towards the end, I think he was trying to say that he hopes the FA don't try to make an example out of him because they see themselves as 'morally superior' to other countries.

        Actually, on second read, it seems to suggest that the issue shouldn't be swept under the rug by England in order to avoid the negativity of racism in the English league.

        The beginning of it seemed to hint at the terms being acceptable. But those are from half a century to a century old. I think the author would agree with the punishment given.

          Ok it says the following....

          Assists

          Assists are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team, who makes the last touch before the goal is scored.

          If after this touch, an opposing player touches the ball outside the penalty area altering the intended destination of the ball, then no assist is given, except if this intervention directly results in an own goal.

          In the event of a penalty or free-kick, the player earning the penalty or free-kick gets an assist if a goal is directly scored, but not if he takes it himself, in which case no assist is given.

          All assists are reviewed daily but remain provisional until verified by the Press Association. For the avoidance of doubt, points awarded in-game are subject to change until the Gameweek closes. Once a Gameweek closes, no further adjustments to points will be made.

    How do I get rooney into this team?

    Vorm, Ruddy
    Walker, Jones, Jose Enrique, Chalker, McAuley
    Silva, Nani, Bale, Walters, N Dyer
    RVP, Adebayor, Sturridge

    0.8m in Bank.

    was thinking either adbayor + bale to Rooney + up to 6.4mid
    or
    RVP to rooney will give me 1.8m to upgrade N Dyer

    cant bring myself to get rid of RVP though!
