Fantasy managers are treated to the remaining eight matches of Gameweek 16 this Wednesday evening, with a trio of
encounters getting underway at 7.45pm.

Sadio Mane and Divock Origi are the form men as Liverpool look for a first win in three at the Riverside. Roberto Firmino arrives on the back of four straight blanks and was second only to Charlie Austin for transfers out in the Gameweek.

With Eden Hazard absent, the stage is set for Diego Costa as Chelsea visit Sunderland. The Blues frontman was the most captained player in Fantasy Premier League for Gameweek 16, with 23% handing him the armband.

West Ham embark on the first of three very favourable fixtures, with Dimitri Payet and Michail Antonio on our radars for the visit of Burnley.

In the 8pm matches, all eyes will be on Captain Poll winner Harry Kane as Spurs welcome Hull to White Hart Lane. We’ll also be monitoring Scout Picks duo Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen against the struggling Tigers.

In-form pair Christian Benteke and Zlatan Ibrahimovic go head-to-head as Palace welcome United to Selhurst Park. With returns in six of the last seven, Wilfried Zaha was the most transferred in player for Gameweek 16.

With Sergio Aguero suspended, faith in Man City has dwindled ahead of what should be a plum home clash against Watford. Kevin De Bruyne is the man most likely as the Etihad side look to recover from back-to-back defeats.

We’re also keeping a keen eye on Differential Sofiane Boufal as Southampton head to Stoke. Having bagged the winner at home to ‘Boro, the Moroccan could be set to step up in the absence of Charlie Austin, promoting his prospects as a mid-price midfield candidate ahead of some fine fixtures.

West Brom have their work cut out to stop Gylfi Sigurdsson as Swansea make their way to the Hawthorns.

The Swans’ playmaker has racked up four goals and as many assists in eight appearances under Bob Bradley and faces a defence with one clean sheet in the last 12 Gameweeks.

Matt Phillips and Salomon Rondon also have the chance to maintain momentum tonight – Swansea have conceded 12 goals in four road trips since their new manager was installed.

Thinking of getting this team over next two GWs. What are people's thoughts on going 352?

    Heaton

    Alonso | Toby | McAuley

    Sanchez | Hazard | Siggy | Lallana | Capoue

    Ibra | Costa

    All opinions welcome! Thanks 🙂

Wilson, Firmino, Nacho ➡️ Ake, Eriksen, Anichebe (-4)?

Would then allow Zaha to Lallana at the weekend and leave me with 0.9m. Could also drop Vert at the weekend for Alonso/Azpi for another -4

Long time lurker, first time poster. Got a question for people with high finishes on previous seasons on what to do when you get there.

Thanks to this site I kind of know what I'm doing now but I find myself in the strange position of being 5,287 OR (best rank I've ever had) and comfortably top in all my minileagues.

I'll freely admit, I have no idea what to do from here. This is not a bragging post (although I am enjoying lording it over my housemates). For the first time in the history of this game I find myself with 2 FT and not really wanting to use them.

    My team:

    Heaton - Foster
Alonso- Vertonghen - Pieters - Holebas - Amat
    Hazard - Mane - Siggy - Eriksen - Capoue
    Costa - Kane - Origi

    2FT; 0 ITB

I made the active decision not to get Sanchez in after I missed out on his huge haul a couple of weeks ago. Not regretted it since then and see no need to get him in for the next couple of games. He's the only player I'm missing that I would really like to have but trying to get him in would mean sacrifices in other areas I'm not really willing to make.

The only real option I see that might make sense is Siggy > Lallana but the last two years merseyside derbies at Goodison have been 0-0 and 1-1 so it's not that tempting. Everton also looked really lively against Arsenal for the first time in ages which increases my reluctancy.
I have been meaning to downgrade Foster to Pickford when I've had the chance and pocket the money, but I want to play Foster this week and would much rather dump him next week.

Is it really the best idea to just hold to maintain rank with my squad the way it is? It seems so wrong.

      • 10 Years
      9 years, 1 month ago

I'd do one of Heaton/Foster to Pickford to save them funds. Good chance of a CS v Watford as well.

Sanchez could really hurt your rank in the next few week, especially when Arsenal's fixtures improve and more people are captaining him

      1. liiusions

Had many thoughts about how Sanchez could well punish me down the line. I am still fine not having him for the next two GWs I think. Also as an Arsenal fan not having him soothes the pain of not having him somewhat.

Capoue to De Roon is something I hadn't really considered but makes sense. Definitely helps with the shuffling I plan to do when Arsenals fixtures improve. Thanks for the advice.

If I did that I would almost definitely have to do Siggy to Lallana to upgrade Vert. Would have to be to another Spurs def as well as I have 3 Chelsea players. Not entirely sure I want to do that for two transfers and potential funds when I inevitably admit my mistake and have to get Sanchez in. Would you still do it given all that?

You could always make some money and do Capoue to deRoon which would give you some in the bank which would come in handy.

I'd keep Foster as they have a great run of games if you look beyond the next couple.

In your position, maybe Capoue to de Roon (to bank cash) or McArthur would make sense

    8. Lawrø

Great squad, I have 10 of them. If you want to maintain your rank it's probably wise to transfer in the higher owned players that can hurt you (Sanchez)... not that I've had any finishes that too high so I'm probably unqualified to give any advice on the matter 🙂

If you're really stuck I'd consider doing Capoue --> 4.2 mid to free up some funds

    9. Kered

Don't change what isn't broken.. but if you don't really play Capoue you could always downgrade him to a fodder like De Roon and slowly free up some funds.
Pieters has some tough fixtures on the horizon, so you could downgrade for Ake (also to free up funds)

      Nice team and rank.

When you are happy with your team, look a bit further down the line. What players do you think you may want in 2,3,4 weeks' time? What do you need to do to prepare for the GW19/20 rotation threat (for some teams more than others).

For example, say you know you want Sanchez from GW18 (not unreasonable). Who is leaving to make way? Well, Mané is an obvious candidate as he's off to AFCON shortly after. That means someone else has to go as well to release around 2.8m cash. And that means Hazard or Kane I'd guess (I assume with that OR you had Costa early).

If you are going to downgrade one of those two then releasing any cash you can beforehand will give you more options. I can see why you'd want to play Foster but is MUN really that much better a fixture than tot when you consider Heaton's potential save points?

In short, I'd do one of two things. Foster to Pickford (who you could play, he has WAT). Or Capoue to Coquelin. Either would free up some useful budget.

If SS had said "I don't agree about Coquelin" I'd have no problem with that at all.

The way he wrote it corrected my advice rather than commenting on it. I didn't want it corrected. I don't mind at all if someone comments on it.

Possibly too subtle a distinction for an online forum but there it is.

Anyway, once again I found your comments unnecessarily hostile, but I guess we have a different view on what constitutes a pleasant exchange of ideas then.

I think he's a perfect pick. There's not a circumstance where I can imagine myself wanting 3 Arsenal players so that's an invalid objection. It's more likely that I would want 3 WBA players actually.

Coquelin is clearly Wenger's preferred CM player, he has missed 3 games all season. So that's an invalid objection as well. And he offers much better chance of points than De Roon, simply because Arsenal score many more goals than Boro will and Coquelin gets involved in play more than many imagine (as evidenced by yesterday).

4.3m is as low as you can go for a playing 5th mid. And Coquelin is the best of them.

Have you thought about say an Arsenal DGW? I think a lot of players would consider Sanchez, Walcott and a defender at some point in the season even if there were just single gameweeks... that's my only gripe. If he knows he's not going to get 3 Arsenal players then everything's sound with the Coquelin choice I guess...

I suppose if you're wildcarding before the dgw and not after that solves the problem actually. Still it cement you to that route

Arsenals fixtures between GW's 18 - 26 are very favourable and would merit 3 picks.
Even their current set-up there are 3 decent picks, if you add Giroud getting a start then it's even easier and more tempting.

I guess the OP will know if he's likely to want 3 Arsenal mainliners. I know I won't. Which is why Coquelin is the ideal 5th mid for me.

Truthfully I can't see myself wanting more than one for the forseeable future. Bellerin could be a possible 2nd but he's hellish expensive.

Not convinced I'll have 3 either, the way other teams/players are performing but GW19 is where I will if I do.
If Giroud is in picture then it's quite likely.
A lot can change in a couple of gameweeks, especially at this time of year.

Coquelin's only missed three but he's also had two cameos of 23 and 31 minutes whereas since de Roon broke into the team, he's only missed one game and he's played the full 90 in all but one of the games he's played. There's more competition at Arsenal. Coquelin's assist last week was his first assist since 2012/13 and he's never scored so I don't see the number of goals that Arsenal score being that relevant here.

This isn't really the point though is it? We're having a discussion here. No one asked us to. Let's at least try to be civil. I wasn't correcting your advice - I was offering an alternative view. All the best

I'd agree,With Christmas/ new year fixtures it's good to have all your bench fodder to be playing. A week in week out 2pointer is better than El Cheapo who doesn't play or gets random minutes.

It's definitely reassuring reading this and seeing that you're saying what I've been thinking. One of Sanchez/Ibra are my targets for GW18. Almost definitely Ibra if Kane blanks again. Mane is one of those I've been considering downgrading to do that next week. Hazard might go too but I'm currently of the opinion you've got to be completely insane not to have 3 Chelsea players right now.

Looking at it now if I downgrade either Foster to Pickford or Capoue to De Roon/Coquelin I can trade Kane straight for Ibra next week which is tempting.

And you assume correctly, I have had Costa since GW4. Definitely one of the better decisions I've made this season. Also took out Kun for Kane just before he got his red two weeks ago to the howls of my ML rivals.

Why would you go for Coquelin over De Roon? The nailedness? He's not exactly going to do anything but get 2 points every week.

Yeah, that's the difference between me and you. I had Costa from GW1. But when Aguero came back from his first ban I had the choice of removing Costa or Lukaku and as Costa already had 3 yellows in 5 games and Lukaku had better immediate fixtures I removed Costa. I expected to bring him back after his 5th YC. I'm still waiting. 🙁

Great stuff, just keep a cool head as you're in good shape squad wise.
I'll say the same as above about Capoue to release some funds.
De Roon. Obiang, Morrison would be names I'd be looking at.
Verts fine but I couldn't resist Brunt - maybe worth a look..

Price changes are ruining FPL a bit this season. They haven't adjusted the algorithm to allow for the extra activity this year. Almost every transfer seems to be driven by price changes. No room for strategy.

I get why it can be annoying sometimes, but for me it is part of the game.

Other people are in the same situation and it is up to each player to deem whether they want to take the risk of gaining value or hold off until further information is released.

Firmino sales gather pace. Have we learned nothing from selling hazard, sanchez and aguero this season? To hold your head when all about you are losing theirs is how to do well at this game.

I must admit I lost sight of this myself the past 6 gws or so but I am resolved to showing patience from now on amd playing fixtures again.

Rubbish, don't mistake fortune for good strategy. Kane barely missed the cut back that found its way to Eriksen for his second goal and firmino was in position in the box to score a hatty today, you could easily have lost points which happens now often than not when we go chasing points (and our teams end up a mess which we end up having to hit to clean up).

He passes the eye test and the stats test if you know your football.
The only thing he doesn't pass is the fpl points test which makes everyone think he is playing bad.

He had his most productive spell lay season when coutinho was injured so don't give me oop as the reason for his lack of fpl points either.

He's not as involved as he was. It's pretty simple. Don't give me "if you know your football" just because you've held on to him too long

It's not because I own him it's is because too many people associate good play with fpl points and vice versa.

He had been playing very well and was excellent tonight setting up some real good chances as well as getting in some great scoring positions. If you say that doesn't pass the eye test then I would group you with those who associate good play with fpl points and vice versa

But we're here talking about FPL. He's a favourite of mine, had him since the start of the season until I sold last week, and I agree he's a great player IRL.

He isn't passing the eye test as an FPL asset, that's all

Not so, look at his ppg with and without coutinho last season. He was far superior and was paying on the left for a lot of it.

Also look at his doubler in the game coutinho missed after the international break this season.

It is just not falling right for him the last couple of weeks, happens in football sometimes. Maybe it's form but I don't think so as he is still getting in the right positions just not getting that final pass when he is there. Only a matter of time imo

Maybe there is a reason and maybe it is coutinho or maybe they are just going through one of those spells? They are still bagging plenty of goals with 8 in the three games they have played without coutinho winning 1 drawing 1 and losing that crazy game against Bournemouth (I doubt coutinho could have done much about the collapse there?).

Coutinho had been amazing for them this season though so they have to be missing him.

The more I look at it maybe it's because Liverpool have more options now in lallana and mane whereas when coutinho was out last year firmino was the main man

This is all a bit tragic really. I love firmino, he's a season keeper for me, all be it right now because I refuse to move him out for a hit.

But to suggest he's playing just as well as he was a month ago is absolute and utter nonsense. He's barely involved. A six year old can see that.

I hear ya, the temptation is always to dive in with hits and try and get on the latest hot player but it was a conversation I had with a lad who is a very good fpl manager that got me thinking about how much I've been chasing my tail this season. I seem to be constantly bringing players in that have scored well when I know from experience the key to this game is to bring in the players that will score well and stock worth them. It won't always work but it definitely pays off more than points chasing long term I think.

My pre Christmas resolution is to make considered moves and stick with them avoiding his of possible.

I agree about chasing your tail, but you talk about very good fpl managers well only 2 of the top 5 in the career HOF have him and the other 3 don't have any Liverpool attacking players at all! Does that tell us mere mortals that Liverpool players are too hard to predict? FYI If you look at stats Mane had the most shots with 5 yesterday so maybe he's the one to get? Yes the key to the game is predicting who will score well and Eriksen was a good shout last week. This week Hull are playing WHM - Payet anyone?

I'd agree with most of that.

My post is not so much about firmino bring the best player in the game but that he is "a" good player and he could be the one to do an Eriksen next, it could be mane either. The point is we don't know so patience needs to be practised as otherwise we end up swapping out the guys who are about to score and bringing in guys who are about to lose form.

I think there are two questions here; is he a good player? Yes he is, 2 of the top 5 HOF have him. Is he about to do an Eriksen? I don't think he is, the derby won't be an easy fixture, it's not the same as Hull at home, also Eriksen's stats (excluding the Hull match) are better than Firmino's recently (use the comparison tool to check). Keep him if you want but I wouldn't expect a big haul this week.

I'm not saying he is going to do an Eriksen either, obviously Eriksen had the better fixture but the transfer used to swap between these players can be used for other purposes too.

Re stats, they can be very subjective and I don't think many people actually realise what they are looking at when they say stats. A lot of Eriksen shots are outside the box and should not be counted as equal to a firmino shot inside the box. You mentioned mane had 5 shots the last day and coincidentally Walcott had 5 shots inside the box the gw before but everyone is dumping him too as he was "out of form". My point is we should pick players for a reason and sell when that reason is over (the reason is usually a purple patch of fixtures). All this swapping horses just because a player has a few blanks doesn't do is any favours imo. Eriksen is a bit different as he had form and a good fixture (notice his returns went from rubbish to excellent with fixture change). I wouldn't take out firmino for Eriksen now though as he only had one easy fixture in the next 6 now.

Ps one of the things you need to watch with stays is who were the stats scored against 😉

I think we are largely agreeing with each other! I'm not saying to get Eriksen for Firmino now, I think the better option this week might be Payet, but last week it was Eriksen. Essentially, which I think is what you're saying too, there has to be a compelling case to buy (fixtures, form, potential, etc) and then hopefully an equally compelling case to sell. If so then make the transfer. Stats need context I agree, especially if good stats were against poor teams, or poor stats against good teams. The hardest thing to decide is when a player is getting good stats but not returning the fpl points are they about to explode or just in a bad run and likely to stay in a bad run? My point re Mane and as you say Walcott too, is that they have good stats but that doesn't mean you have to buy them. The point I was making re Eriksen is last week there was a fairly compelling case to buy, of course hindsight is 20/20, and looking at the other mids in my team there was a decent case for selling Firmino. Yes luck is involved too. This week I am considering buying Payet and selling Walcott. What makes me nervous about keeping Walcott is possible rotation, what makes me nervous about selling him is that he can score well in fpl and his stats aren't bad. I might get Carroll instead... I totally agree that if possible (ie price changes aren't a factor) then chasing points isn't a good idea. To an extent last week's points don't matter it's all about next week's points. What are your thoughts re Payet and Carroll?

Yeah I'd go payet of the two but wham being in such poor form would put me off slightly even though they have a couple of tasty fixtures. I've got caught this season making transfers for short term fixtures and not going down that road again myself.

Have been in not so poor form the last two matches. Particularly against Burnley they were rather hot. And you can say it's just Burnley, but then they're not playing Chelsea and Arsenal in the next two either.

Yeah good fixtures might help the form but something like 8 goals at home so far is atrocious. They don't have that great fixtures either apart from this weekends one. This smacks of one of those moves there is no need to make and where patience might be the wisest course of action

Yes it's a trickier decision, adapting to their new home has been a problem, I think they've had a good response after the Arsenal defeat, the team seems to be pulling in the right direction... arguments can be made both ways... thanks!

I feel really sad posting this but I'm pretty sure the guy who is number 1 in the HOF has just sold Firmino for Eriksen. His SV and ITB amounts have changed by exactly the right amounts to suggest that transfer - sold Firmino for 8.6 after purchasing for 8.5 in gw10 making 0.1 profit buying Eriksen for 8.5. ITB increased by 0.1 and SV decreased by 0.2 since Firmino price drop and loss of 0.1 when selling. I did say this post was sad! But perhaps useful to know the moves such a good player is making?

The Nacho issue:I thought that he would've at least have came on as a sub last night, presume he was on the bench? What do you think are the chances of him starting over the weekend?
Would you take a hit to replace him? Cheers

Conflicting replies. The only player that I would consider punting on as a replacement would be Carroll (especially for the next game assuming he starts that is), but for a hit I dunno, might just hold. Origi, Rondon, nah just seems too knee jerky atm.

Everytime I pressed Make Transfers, I got the loading circle symbol and then it took me back to the Transfers screen as if I had made no transfers. I kept having to take out the 3 players and put in the replacements and then press Make Transfers again but the cycle repeated. Happened at least 5 times before I seen new prices.

        Ah well.

Three questions I did not see any of the match highlights of the Swansea game.

    1) Were Swansea that bad?

Because I am annoyed with myself when Austin was injured I had a choice between Rondon or Llorente and I picked Llorente based on the fixtures (westt broms get difficult so I thought it would be a waste of a transfer)

    2) Is there any liklihood that Llorente will be dropped the next day was he poor?

    3) Is there much of a chance that llorente will outscore Rondon points wise (not pints wise) over christmas?

    Heaton Grant
    Cedric Walker Alonso Amat Nyom
    Alli Hazard Sanchez Sigurdsson Fer
    Anichebe Kane Costa

    £0.0m in the bank

Any thoughts on what to do? With Fer not playing I'm kind of screwed in terms of options on the bench. Part of me wants to take Erikson instead of Alli and downgrade Fer since he's not playing anyway, but that doesn't solve the issue with the squad.

I'm thinking Fer > Zaha and downgrade Alli for free next week, but no midfielders appeal for £7.5m. I don't have Liverpool cover but Lallana's fixtures get very tough.

    Heaton (Pickford)
    Alonso, Clyne, Francis (Stones, Amat)
    Hazard, Payet, Siggy, Sanchez (Phillips)
    Defoe, Kane, Origi

    GTG?

Itching for the likes of Eriksen, Lallana, Costa and Brunt but I think my would be outgoing players in Defoe and Payet have a good chance in returns
