Christian Eriksen and Adam Lallana rise to the top of our midfield Christmas shopping lists after serving up substantial midweek hauls.

Meanwhile, Divock Origi and Salomon Rondon stake a claim as our third strikers, while a tactical reshuffle from Mauricio Pochettino helps Danny Rose and Walker to produce the points at both ends of the pitch.

Here’s the Stock Check following a busy Wednesday schedule….

On the Rise

Adam Lallana
While Roberto Firmino continues to toil alarmingly, the fit-again Lallana has hit the ground running on his return to the Liverpool starting line-up, firing three goals in two stunning Gameweek performances.

Owned by just 11% and priced at 7.2, he looks destined to enjoy a huge spike in ownership following his Riverside Stadium returns.

It seems the power has shifted again in the Liverpool midfield, at least until Philippe Coutinho’s New Year return.

Divock Origi
The Belgian notched his fourth goal in as many Gameweeks to repay the faith of almost 100,000 managers who had swooped ahead of the midweek fixtures.

Coupled with the assist for Lallana’s second, Origi has caught fire just as our options up front appeared limited.

He did limp off late on, although Jurgen Klopp has confirmed this as just a knock which, we have to expect, should see the Belgian in contention to face Everton in Monday’s derby.

Christian Eriksen
The Dane took his tally to five goals in four Gameweeks as he made giant strides in establishing himself as the Spurs midfielder of choice.

After recording some superb early season statistics, Eriksen is now delivering on his promise to present another powerful midfield option.

Second only to Lallana for transfer traffic overnight, Eriksen provides a persuasive argument ahead of another potentially profitable home tie with Burnley this weekend.

Kyle Walker & Danny Rose
Deployed as wing-backs with Eric Dier slotting in to form a three-man defence, both Walker and Rose earned assists in outstanding displays.

Toby Alderweireld’s return to fitness and goal threat from Eriksen’s deliveries had us recently re-assess our weapon of choice in the Spurs defence; this latest tactical tweak from Mauricio Pochettino may force another rethink.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
United’s frontman bagged a fifth goal in as many Gameweek appearances and also supplied an assist away to Palace to mount a renewed and sustained challenge for consideration in our forward lines.

Backed by 13% of FPL managers, Ibrahimovic was the top scoring player among the top 10 captain choices, with Alexis Sanchez the only other to notch a Gameweek goal.

With fixtures remaining kind for United and Ibrahimovic, on a night where both Diego Costa and Harry Kane blanked, it’s clear that he is a major Fantasy rival to both.

Paul Pogba
United’s big-money signing has also stepped up his form in time for the festive spell.

Similar to Eriksen, Pogba’s underlying numbers have suggested he’s been one to monitor for some time. A goal and assist at Palace finally delivered on that promise, helping the Frenchman to a first double-figure haul of the season.

Sitting in just 8% of FPL sides, he looks set to add yet another name to our list of midfield options as the schedule continues to smile kindly on Jose Mourinho’s men.

Salomon Rondon
Three headed goals delivered the Venezuelan a first West Brom hat-trick and elevated him once again as a mid-price option for our attacks.

Robbed of the Charlie Austin option, Rondon’s ascent to rival the likes of Origi is beautifully timed.

The short-term fixtures remain tough, however, plus Rondon appears to have lost penalty kick duties to Nacer Chadli when the Belgian is on the pitch.

Matt Phillips
The Baggies winger provided another assured set-piece delivery to earn the assist for Rondon’s headed opener. Priced at just 5.4, that took him to three goals and four assists in his last six Gameweeks.

Chris Brunt
A shift to left-back against Swansea City did little to hinder the Irishman’s assist potential as he delivered twice to the head of Rondon.

Brunt has now provided three assists in three Gameweeks and is undoubtedly challenging Gareth McAuley as our first choice defender within the West Brom ranks.

Even with Chadli a factor, it appears that Brunt’s starting role is assured, although it may take West Brom’s injuries and suspensions to clear before we can be certain.

Cesar Azpilicueta
An eighth clean sheet in ten and, once again, the Spaniard was a benefactor of bonus points to cement his place at the top of the FPL defender standings.

Winning three of four tackles made, Azpilicueta continued his campaign as a bonus point darling, strengthening the case for doubling up on the Chelsea defence and pairing him with Marcos Alonso in our squads.

Tom Heaton
Having failed to produce a save point in his first two appearances on returning from injury, Heaton made amends at the London Stadium.

A penalty save plus an additional five stops ensured that the Clarets skipper returned to double-figures – his third big haul of the campaign.

Lee Grant
A third clean sheet in four Gameweeks, a fifth of the season: while Jack Butland’s troublesome return from an ankle injury drags on, Grant has provided us with exceptional value.

With Liverpool and Chelsea to come in the next three, it seems unlikely that Stoke City and Grant can maintain such defensive form. However, following that, we may have to hike Grant in our Watchlist standings should Butland’s return continue to stall.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
Ruled out at the Stadium of Light with a knock sustained against West Brom on Sunday, it’s presumed this was the clattering suffered from Gareth McAuley’s “tackle” early on. Hazard played on having limped back on the field, but eventually gave way to Branislav Ivanovic once Chelsea had grabbed the lead.

Conte has played down the problem, and it’s hoped that Hazard will make a return at Crystal Palace. With Lallana and Eriksen sparkling, the Belgian’s owners will doubtless be keen to get that confirmed and see their man back in the points.

Top of the “transfers out” overnight, clearly some were itching to rid themselves of the Chelsea man, a move that certainly could be punished with home fixtures with Stoke City and Bournemouth looming.

Nemanja Matic
Dropped to the bench to make way for Cesc Fabregas, it’s clear that the Serbian’s starting role is now under severe threat with further rotation on the when the schedule intensifies. The winning goal and eye-catching display from the Spaniard at Sunderland did little to improve Matic’s prospects.

Roberto Firmino
A fifth successive blank for the Brazilian surely assured further heavy sales in the light of hauls from Lallana and Eriksen.

Two efforts on goal at the Riverside, both off target, did little to boost our confidence in Firmino who is ranked second only to Hazard for “transfers out” column ahead of Saturday’s Gameweek 17 deadline.

Harry Kane
The Spurs striker was heavily backed to return points ahead of a plum home fixture with Hull City but drew a blank in the 3-0 victory.

Hooked on 74 minutes, few Kane owners will be fidgeting quite yet. Nonetheless, a failure to return against Burnley in Gameweek 17 would represent two missed opportunities for major hauls at a time when Ibrahimovic is presenting a convincing alternative.

Kelechi Iheanacho
Brought in by more than 224,000 following Sergio Aguero’s suspension, the Nigerian starlet was ruthlessly benched by Pep Guardiola following his 57-minute blank at Leicester City. His role over the festive spell now looks limited, with Aguero surely set to return after the next two outings.

John Stones
A regular around these parts, Stones’ plummeting stock suffered another blow as Guardiola ousted the defender to the bench. A huge frustration for his remaining 21.7% ownership, who watched on while Manchester City kept just a third clean sheet of the campaign against a makeshift Watford attack.

Ilkay Gundogan
Seemingly locked in rotation with Yaya Toure for the foreseeable, Gundogan has seemingly put an end to all doubts on his selection by sustaining a knee injury which now looks set to keep him sidelined.

Owned by 7.2%, he is now set to be ruled out for several months according to Pep Guardiola’s post-match prognosis.

Victor Anichebe
Absent for the visit of Chelsea following the 3-0 defeat at Swansea City, owners of the 4.7-priced asset will be nervous given Anichebe’s injury record. David Moyes was vague on the details involved in his absence, with the smart money on a precautionary move ahead of a vital home clash with Watford in Gameweek 17.

Loris Karius
Taken out of the firing line by Jurgen Klopp, Karius watched on while Simon Mignolet helped Liverpool to just a fourth clean sheet of the season – a third in five Gameweeks. Mignolet, at 4.7, may now return to the radar as an unlikely option for us between the posts.

Troy Deeney
After eight Premier League matches without a goal, the Watford skipper suffered the ultimate blow by being dropped to the bench at the Etihad. Walter Mazzarri was likely preserving Deeney for the Gameweek 17 trip to Sunderland but, given his current form, the striker’s Fantasy prospects are declining at an alarming rate.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I made a cheeky double sub yesterday morning:

Firmino & Lovren to Siggy & Bellerin.

Team is structured well with a bit of bench action (I feel you need 2 'regulars' on the bench during December). Although Anichebe seems like he may have lost his place?

      Pickford (Jaku)

Bellerin Alonso Holebas (Amat Der Hoorn)

      Mane Hazard Sanchez Siggy Zaha

      Kane Benteke (Anichebe)

I also have enough in the bank to do Kane to Aguero once he's back! 🙂

What do people think? Am I set for December? I'm considering Der Hoorn to Ake depending on how much he rises by next week or Anichebe to ???. But I will want to keep enough itb for AGUEROOOOO.

Rough with 36 pts, but nothing I did or didn't do could have changed that.

Benched Heaton for Foster, which made sense and none of my big guns did well except Sanchez. Kane captaincy failed too.

Decision time - do I go maverick again and take the hits to chase tails....a Danish one in particular.

Or do I do as Villa Ronka does - sit tight, trust your players (Sanchez, Kane, Hazard, Costa, Sigurdsson) to do well.

I'm gonna ignore the urge to take hits this week and Ronk and Roll.

Foster to Pickford to start freeing up funds for Aguero in January. 🙂

I think this GW has bust the big hitter template. I literally have no idea what to do next. I think need to do something bold. Get and Captain Andy Carroll against Hull? Get 2 Chelsea defenders (have none at the moment)?

Lots of well owned defenders did well. Also Ibra is well owned and had a few captaincies.

There was some very lucky bench points too...most in my mini leagues had either a bournemouth defender or Williams.

A ghost ship team in my mini league got over 70....he's had Lallana, Heaton and Ibra from the off.....never moved them.

Justin Spiegel has risen to 4th position in my Top 10k Any Season mini-league this week after playing 4-5-1 and scoring 101.
                        Heaton (12) in goal.
Alonso (7), Lovren (6), Rose (9) and Brunt (10) in defence.
Eriksen (19*2), Sanchez (7), KDB (6), Siggy and Payet in midfield.
Defoe substituting for Iheanacho as the only forward.

So perhaps it isn't actually essential to have even one premium forward after all!

I think stay put with the big hitters. They could all easily produce something this gameweek and saves you the point loss. I also don't have Eriksen but have decided not to chase the points and be content with Kane as my spurs option. If he fails this week il consider changing to Ibra.

Probably a bit "late to the party" on Eriksen and Lallana for those without them. Still believe the 5 players you mentioned will do well, but the next GW is both Kane and Defoe's last chance.

after my Scoutcast debut re:rough -12 am keeping my head down.
Smooth: Alonso, Toby, Smith 19pts, Sanchez 7.
rough: everybody else = 16 pts.

Just gotta think it's one of those GWs you have to suck it up.
Apart from Can as a 4th mid issue don't see what more I can do at the moment. And Can had form when I brought him in 5ppg - 3 goals in 5 games so not a terrible decision.
I've got 6 big hitters - Haz, Kane, Sanchez, Toby, Alonso, Costa.
Dropped 600k to 825k OR in 5 GWs.
Only consolation is 60pts of top 200k and 80pts off top 100k.
I was 6 pts and 80k places behind Andy before this GW now 28pts and 400k places behind. So Heaton & Ibra vs. Costa & Foster this week was the difference.
so a couple of good GWs can turn it round.

A tad unlucky given Carroll's stats yesterday, but Carroll should be a better pick from now on. I think I'll do Rondon ➡ Carroll myself this week, and you already have Carroll so you can save that transfer, so it's basically 4 points in the bag.

Rough. Having too many double ups and triple ups....just didn't like it. Captain Kane who I was never convinced about.

Smooth. Brought Randolph in for 8 pts and a back line of 38pts...74pts in total with a captain fail.

Rough: 21 benched points (Heaton, Pieters, Amat, Carrick), Kane (c), I was 0.1m short to get Eriksen and now I think it's too late to get him. I'm also mad at myself because I did think about playing 4 at the back and I was hoping for a 0:0 between Southampton and Stoke anyway ... so changing my mind and late decision to play Siggy backfired. The biggest disappointment is definitely that Mane didn't score or at least get an assist. He was everywhere and really unlucky not to get any attacking returns.

Smooth: 68 points and another green arrow which means the highest rank this season - 30k. Unexpected 3 bonus points for both Grant and van Dijk, Walker finally delieved, Sanchez, Origi and Alonso with their classic returns. I also have 2 free transfers and some money in the bank so there's a lot of positive vibes! 🙂

Though expensive players did nothing average score was high because of enough clean sheets.Very difficult season to have players in any position to give you points every week or generally often .One week is Eriksen and Lallan the previous week was Vardy Lukaku and Zaha and generally tough decisions. Its like you know your team this week will not go well and you must take the risk to take hits to bring the players will give points in each gameweek.

All rough. Iheanacho, Hazard and Evans no show. Holebas and Clayton from the bench for 2 points. 3rd sub is non playing Hull defender. Having no money to buy Eriksen so opting for Alli. Dropping from 4k to 14k in a single week.

May I add beating the sout picks by 20+ points only. No playstation for me from Amazon then 🙁

It all started last week when I got rid of Pieters to Alonso for -4 (2 points gain only) but I lost valuable cash that I would have used to optain Eriksen. Getting Iheanacho for -8 didn't help neither.

I see my team in free fall unless Mane and Alli make it up for me next gameweek.

Rough - where to start, matip and cedric no shows with both teams getting clean sheets. No goals and no assists in the team, 3 none starters for a total of 29 painful points.
Smooth - Daniels 6 points started the week nicely 🙁

            Rough
held onto my Power Five but this midfield got me 15 points:
            Sanchez Hazard Mane Firmino Sigurdsson

            Smooth
            Origi in for Austin

Missed the matches so I don't know where I went wrong, but this thread helps put it into context a bit that maybe it was just one of those GWs.

Rough: Leaving williams on the bench and seeing Capoue ahead of him when news of Hazard not playing, captain Kane and his 2 points.

Smooth: bringing in Rondon for Austin this week and Cedric not playing so Williams coming in off the bench.

52pts Rondon and Williams saved me!

Rough: Hazard and Nacho not playing. Siggy, Kane, Costa and Firmino blanking.
Smooth: Heaton's points and Francis coming in.

Already transferred Morgan and Firmino out for Alonso and Lallana and will transfer Nacho to Origi or Carroll for -4.

For GW 19 it will probably be Hazard and Kane out for Eriksen and Aguero

Rough: 3 weeks of bang average scores dropped over 130k positions. Given my bad TV will be difficult to claw back unless my differentials become template.

Kane (c) blank, Clyne benched, Hazard injury

Smooth: Stones not starting meant Clyne came on and got his haul which made the difference between 39 points and 49 points.

Heaton penalty save along with Ake's points were sweet. A good performance for a defense which costs less than 31m.

            Rough

Went maverick by making five transfers, causing a -16 headache. I kneejerked and did Fer & Austin to Zaha & Llorente on Sunday and went for last minute transfers with Sanchez, Allen & Lovren to Lallana, Eriksen & Azpi.

            Smooth

I trusted in heaton's save potential, went double on chelsea defense, kept walker and captained Ibrahimovic. This got me 18 bps and help me reaching 91 points. Even with likes of Zaha, Llorente, Kane and Firmino not performing to standard.

Moved up from 600k to 90k overall and 8 to 2 in ML and some nice price rises coming in.

            Smooth:
Transferred in Toby for Amat and played 442 with a premium defense of Toby, Walker, Alonso and Cedric. In a GW where most attacking heavy hitters blanked, got 54 points due to a strong defence (33 pts from defence alone). Hazard and Cedric missed out but got Pieters and Whelan from the bench so happy with that. Got a green arrow and rank jump of around 40k

            Also, my recent transfer history:
GW 13: I was 0.1 or 0.2 short of getting Brunt, got McAuley instead.
GW 14 Couthino injury: It was between Walcott and Eriksen, I choose Walcott.
GW 15: Austin injury: It was between Ihenacho and Origi, I choose Ihenacho.

            Funny smooth-
I was planning to play Pickford instead of Heaton in GW 16. But I was so caught up on deciding whether to get Eriksen or Payet that I didn't notice I didn't pick Pickford until a minute to the deadline, which was right after I did the transfer. Still had time to pick Pickford and I did, only to realize someone had switched off the wifi(without knowing I was using it and bc it was 12.15 AM here).
Change didn't happen and ended up playing Heaton in the end for +10 swing.

            Rough
            Picked Payet over Eriksen
            Captain Kane
            Ihenacho and Hazard no show

Heaton, VVD, Sanchez and Alonso got me to 51 though, can't complain too much.

Two horrid weeks back to back. 32 after 29(-4) last week!

Rough; Heaton benched but it made sense to play Foster. Four no shows and only two subs due to Stones also being dropped. Sold Williams. To top it all a rival captained Rondon to my Kane.

Smooth; Ibra doing the do, Toby cleanie on his first appearance for me.

Still tempted by Payet over Lallana and Eriksen. Not sure why. Think I've lost it 🙁

Switched Evans for Barragan. Looking to get Wba defender back in after fixtures clean a bit.

keeping cedric since i got him @ 4.9 (any possible price drop wont hurt) and can afford to gamble with starting him one more week with a strong bench. he is still a great play if he manages to not be ill

Hey all thoughts on team? Good to go? Any changes?

          Pickford
          Vertong / Alonso / Ake
          Hazard / Siggy / Lallana / Sanchez
          Defoe / Costa / Kane
Bench Nyom / Amat / Allen / Grant

          Thanks heaps

When Fit, this mid fwd combo could do well:

          Mkhi // Eriksen // Cout
          Aguero // Costa

          Tough call here.
          Firmino to Eriksen or lallana??
Or keep. 5 wks blanking now so it's hurting.

Depends if you already have any liverpool players. As i have Origi I am looking at Firmino > Erikson

Morning all, bit of a disappointing one yesterday but my defence saved me and made up for all of my forwards apart from Sanchez blanking...

Looking for some input into what my next move should be...a few to consider (in much a similar spot as others):

          A) Lovren, Allen & Firmino -> VVD, Zaha and Lallana for (-4).
Swapping Liverpool mids seems a bit dangerous though, but Firmino looks really out of it right now. Quite like this option though with Palace's & Southamptons fixtures in a few weeks time. Makes the midfield perhaps a bit light?

          B) Lovren, Allen & Firmino -> 4.6, Zaha & Eriksen for (-4).
Think this might leave me a bit weak in defence and I don't know what peoples thoughts are as to whether Eriksen can carry the form on, or if I have missed the boat on that one.

          C) Firmino -> Eriksen and save 1 FT with 0.3 ITB for next week.
A lack of Liverpool cover would irk me a bit.

Team set-up for next GW so far:

          Pickford
          Pieters - Alonso - Amat
          Haz - Firmino - Sanchez - Siggy
          Anichebe - Costa - Kane

          (Foster - Allen - Lovren - McAuley)
          0.3 ITB

          Thoughts are appreciated!

          I've made a decision:
          Firmino & nacho out.
          Lallana & Caroll in.

          Grant
          Holebas, Jones, Alonso
          Haz,Sigy,Erik,Alexis,Lallana
          Costa, Carrol

          Cedric,Anichebe,McAuley.

I have the second transfer banked. It leaves 2.2
          I'll captain Eriksen
