We roll out our third pre-Gameweek members article in seven days as the schedule treats us to yet another round of December fixtures.

To get up and running, we check over the main contenders in this week’s Captain Poll, then assess the Opta numbers and Rate My Team rankings before suggesting a differential or two to help we with the Gameweek 17 armband issue.

The Captain Poll

Despite his midweek blank at home to Hull City, Harry Kane retains the top spot in our Captain Poll as Spurs prepare for the visit of travel-sick Burnley.

Currently claiming 33% of the votes, the England international has netted twice in two of his previous three at the Lane and faces a defence that’s shipped 16 goals in seven away matches.

Kane’s team-mate Christian Eriksen collects 15% backing this time around. The Dane has racked up 37 points in his last two home appearances and is the second most popular transfer target in the Gameweek after grabbing two goals and an assist in the 3-0 win over Hull.

Diego Costa (23%) is the Chelsea weapon of choice for tomorrow lunchtime’s trip to Palace. The Spain international suffered a rare blank at Sunderland in midweek yet remains the most consistent player of 2016/17, with a goal or assist in 13 of the opening 16 Gameweeks.

Eden Hazard collects only 3% of the votes after he missed the visit to Wearside with a minor knee complaint. The Belgian looks set to be back on the teamsheet for the Selhurst Park clash, though, having returned to training.

Alexis Sanchez has persuaded only 4% to take the plunge for Arsenal’s trip to the Etihad.

The Chilean rocks up on the back of six goals and two assists in the last four Gameweeks and seeks a fifth double-figure haul on his travels against an obliging City rearguard that’s kept out their opponents on just three occasions.

With a goal and two assists in the last four Gameweeks, Dimitri Payet (4%) finds a place in our top five as West Ham play host to Hull.

Handed a first start since the season opener in midweek, big Andy Carroll (1%) is also shaping up as a differential against a Tigers defence that’s conceded more goals than any other on their travels.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to remain an overlooked option as United make their way to a West Brom defence with one clean sheet in 13 Gameweeks. Only 3% are willing to back the Swede, who has served up five goals and an assist in his last five top-flight outings.

Similarly, Liverpool’s attack is being overlooked for their visit to Goodison on Monday night.

The likes of Divock Origi (four goals in as many Gameweeks), Adam Lallana (three strikes and an assist in his previous two starts) and Sadio Mane (one goal, four assists in four) sit around the 1% mark.

All three have the form to plunder the points against a defence with a single clean sheet in 12 attempts.

Jermain Defoe also collects just 1% ahead of a home clash against a Watford defence that has shipped 11 goals in their previous three on the road. He boasts strong form in front of his own fans, though, scoring five goals in his last six at the Stadium of Light.

More often than not, BBC Football coolly state the facts and get it right with their team news:

"Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard, who missed the win at Sunderland because of a knock, is fit but could be rested as part of squad rotation."

Why would you rest your best player and one of the best players in the world who is in great form this season! He's first on Conte's team sheet and a 100% going to play tomorrow so let's just end this utter b*ll*x for once and for all

Because as you said, he is one of the best players in the world and Conte wants him fit to kick on in the coming weeks and not dying of fatigue

What if he can play but is not 100% fit? And you're playing a team you expect to score against within the first half hour no matter who you field? Would the manager be mad to begin with his star on the bench, and by the way, get a little more real-world data on how his Hazard-less team performs?

Brunt vs Jones is tricky, cant see WBA breaking them to be honest. In fact i'd be tempted to bench Diomande for Jones, play 4 at the back

      1. Dedalus1
        • 10 Years

Thanks for your input. Just gut feeling Diomande might score by pure accident against dodgy WHU defence

I dont doubt their shakey defence but just relying on Dio could be wrong. Go with your gut though, gut is usually right!

Ok gentlemen what do you reckon to these starters in defence and my reckoning. Please bare with me on any replies as computers and technology really aint my thing. This write up has taken an age to script. Lol

Alonso.....8 clean sheets and the form team in the league passing the eye test in organisation and style of play. Gets forward and in the reckoning for bonus if the Blues come away with a 1/2 goal victory.

Ake......A very healthy ppg since he made his first start in gw 12 playing at home v's a Saints side that struggle to score goals. 2 bonus v's Leicester last time out in his sides narrow victory gives hope for a similar outcome this week.

Chambers......A plum home tie v's one of the worst sides in the league. Borough look to me to of found their feet and esp at home look half decent. Although no one would be suprised to see Swansea score I feel the home tie swings it for my 3 man defence.

Cedric.......Such a close call but recent no shows through rest and illness and an away tie make him 1st sub for me. Really not sure though as no one would be suprised to see a very good saints side go to their South coast rivals and get a clean sheet.

Holebas......An attractive away tie v's the other poorest side in the division in Sunderland but an away tie nevertheless. Not the tighest defence away from home but clean sheets against Borough and Swansea show Watford can produce the goods against sides you'd think they are in direct competition with. His recent assists make his position on the bench tricky but for me but 2nd sub behind Cedric seems about right.

(Final spot on the bench is Anichebe with his injury doubt and record for being crocked even if Sunderland play Watford)

1.6 ITB + 2FTs, Nacho to Origi and McAuley to VVD or just 1 transfer?

I am struggling to chose one of these to play:

    A) Redmond (no goals or assist the last 7 games)
    B) Capoue (1 goal and no assists the last 11 games)
    C) Holebas (had two assists in a game just now, but other than that he has not done much the last 7 games or so. However, he is on a lot of dead ball duties)
    D) Friend (been injured for 5 games, but before that he had 4, 6, 7 and 7 points in 4 games)

The rest of the team is Alderweireld, Alonso, Cédric, Hazard, Walcott, Firmino, Kane, Costa and Defoe.

    Thoughts?

    Pieters
    Hazard
    Nacho

    I'm guessing

    90%
    90%
    85%

    Firmino Hazard Sanchez Capoue (Gundogan)

I only have a couple of weeks to activate my WC. Should I use it now? I have 2 ft, if I WC now, will I have 2 ft:s next week?

    Thanks!

A lot of South American players tend to thank and praise God for their speedy recovery from injuries. Medical staff rarely mentioned.

Sanchez was supposed to be out for months! It's that air up in the Andes man. Beats the A40 smog all day.
