Sadio Mane bags an eighth goal of the season as Liverpool leave it late at Goodison. Daniel Sturridge climbs off the bench to help make the breakthrough as the Reds stand firm in defence to serve up a fourth clean sheet in six.

On The Rise

Sadio Mane
A late winner at Goodison took the Liverpool wide man to just one point behind Eden Hazard in the race for second spot in the FPL midfield standings.

Mane has thrived since Philippe Coutinho limped out of action last month, serving up two goals and four assists in the last five Gameweeks.

Frustratingly for his 20.9% FPL owners, Senegal’s qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (which gets underway in January 14) means they will soon need to make exit plans.

Nonetheless, Mane should still be around for three more Gameweeks, with the Reds facing back-to-back home clashes against Stoke and Man City prior to a trip to Sunderland on January 2.

Daniel Sturridge
Emerging from the bench as a replacement for Divock Origi late in the second-half, Sturridge needed little time to make an impact.

Earning the assist for Mane’s goal after his shot rebounded off the post, the England international’s return to action arrives just as the fixtures pick up pace.

Given that Liverpool play Stoke, Man City and and Sunderland over the space of six days from next Tuesday onwards, we can expect a degree of rest and rotation, allowing Sturridge the chance to build up his minutes after another period on the sidelines.

If – a big if – he can steer clear of injuries, Mane’s imminent departure could even offer Sturridge further opportunity to establish himself under Jurgen Klopp over the next month or so.

Nathaniel Clyne
The 1-0 win at Goodison took Liverpool’s tally to five clean sheets for the season, with four arriving in the last six Gameweeks.

Impressively, Clyne has now collected bonus points on all five occasions that the Merseysiders have chalked up a shutout, underlining just why he’s the priciest pick amongst Jurgen Klopp’s backline regulars.

The Reds are braced for a mixed upcoming schedule, though boast three excellent fixtures (STO, SWA, sun) in the next five that look promising for further defensive returns.

In Decline

Divock Origi
The Belgian’s recent form can barely be faulted, having scored in four successive Gameweeks prior to last night’s blank.

Yet the impact of fit-again Sturridge off the bench is a concern for Origi’s 8.7% of FPL owners and there’s every chance that the England man could nick at least one start off the youngster due to the hectic nature of next week’s schedule.

With Philippe Coutinho also closing in on a return, Origi’s starting berth now appears to be under severe pressure.

Roberto Firmino
It’s six straight blanks now for the Liverpool midfielder, who continues to toil on the left flank as a result of Coutinho’s ankle injury absence.

Although his compatriot is rumoured to be hopeful of returning before the New Year, Firmino – the third most transferred out player last week – continues to lose owners at pace.

Over 10,000 FPL managers have already shipped him since the weekend, with the switch to Theo Walcott looking very appealing ahead of Arsenal’s fine upcoming schedule.

Romelu Lukaku
The decline of Everton’s frontman shows no sign of slowing down after yet another abject display.

After starting the season with a goal or assist in six of his first nine, Lukaku has subsequently blanked in six of the last seven Gameweeks.

The schedule does turn in his favour from Gameweek 22, though there seems little chance that his current 25% ownership will remain loyal until that point.

The Payet experiment has been a resounding failure so far; is it worth ditching now for Mane (-4)? Then when AFCON beckons he'll be moved to Firm/Coutinho.

Just know if I do Payet will fill his boots vs Swansea next GW

Yeah I said this for Burnley and Hull though and sat through two blanks, feel like on paper he's looked great but West Ham just aren't threatening enough for him to post attacking returns. tricky one.

Hmm this might be a good option but you would need solid returns from Manè for this to be worth your while

Payet highlights the importance of form + fixtures. For me there are four teams who should smash it in the next 8 GWs:

      - Man Utd
      - Arsenal
      - Chelsea
      - WBA

Others are adding Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace into that mix. But fundamentally they are playing poorly - their form sucks. So for me the focus should be on the four teams above rather than teams who have good fixtures, but have shown no level of consistency in performing.

    Reposting.

Dont think Ibra is going to be rotated in anything thats not Cup.

Zlatan: "The older I get, the better I am. I'm like red wine. Do you like red wine? I'm the perfect example of that. I've played in many different competitions and countries, but I got used to the conditions everywhere quickly. Even in England, I'm already almost fully used to. I'm content, I feel very well. I'm 35, but I feel like I'm 20. I think I could play even when I' 50."

Mourinho seems quite open about it though so hopefully he'll keep giving us good info

Mourinho always has been pretty open.

I used to be amazed when he was at Chelsea and people complained about him being untrustworthy. I could always watch the Chelsea presser and what he told Chelsea TV and have a pretty good idea what was in the wind. He is also pretty stable with team selection once he has a team that is working.

Now he's at United maybe some others are seeing that too. All the nonsense about his intentions with Zlatan can be settled by listening to his pre-match presser v WBA. But there you go. I think people prefer making things up sometimes.

Zlatan thinks he is the most powerful footballer. Mou also cannot afford him to pick an injury. He will probably play all games but maybe not full 90min if United win comfortably.

It's Sigurdsson I'm also looking at getting rid for Chadli.

I think we probably overlooked Boro/WBA (a) when looking at his fixtures so will give him next 2 home fixtures and see how he does. Potential swap to Chadli in 2 GWs for the fixture swing.

    Grant/Pickford
    Alonso/Lovren/Evans/Holebas/Amat

4 point hit to sell Lukaku and Firmino for Ibra and Jay Rodriguez but bench Rodriguez bcs he's not going to get as much time on the pitch this early on so I would start Allen.

    What a funny rollercoaster: https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/entry/181777/history

GW 16: 1K gameweek rank last time with 106 points
    * saves a transfer (why change anything when you have just scored a century?) *
GW 17: 4 million gameweek rank with 25 points

And it's not like the fixtures were bad this time or something extraordinary happened.

Looking for a route to Aguero, don't tyou think that Mkhytarian might take off some appeal from Ibra when back. A bit in the way Alli and Eriksen are muting Kane for spurs?
This move is on my wathclist, definitevely..

looks like 48... 47 might be sufficient to be part of the random draw

    Right! Currently have:

    De gea, Pickford
    Daniels, Alonso, Rose, Ake, Barragan
    Sanchez, Hazard, Lallana, Eriksen ,Zaha
    Costa, Origi, Anichibe

    Have 1ft and 0.3m itb.

My time with origi has been fun but i feel like i need another top striker such as ibrahimovic
Costa is only out for next game , sanchez is the type of guy to get 2 goals and an assist when you swap him out and hazard is hazard i have annoying amount of faith with him.

Any thoughts? such as a decent midfield i could swap in for sanchez/hazard and get ibra in ? ot any other transfers that may be a good shout?

    Cheers!

Big swing for Origi - Ibra. Sanchez to Chadli/Antonio? Personally I think Sanchez will outscore Ibra. I think you'd be better getting Origi to Defoe/Benteke

Probably the best midfield you could have for this week. Defence is good too all at home. I have a horrible defence this week
