Sadio Mane bags an eighth goal of the season as Liverpool leave it late at Goodison. Daniel Sturridge climbs off the bench to help make the breakthrough as the Reds stand firm in defence to serve up a fourth clean sheet in six.

On The Rise

Sadio Mane
A late winner at Goodison took the Liverpool wide man to just one point behind Eden Hazard in the race for second spot in the FPL midfield standings.

Mane has thrived since Philippe Coutinho limped out of action last month, serving up two goals and four assists in the last five Gameweeks.

Frustratingly for his 20.9% FPL owners, Senegal’s qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (which gets underway in January 14) means they will soon need to make exit plans.

Nonetheless, Mane should still be around for three more Gameweeks, with the Reds facing back-to-back home clashes against Stoke and Man City prior to a trip to Sunderland on January 2.

Daniel Sturridge
Emerging from the bench as a replacement for Divock Origi late in the second-half, Sturridge needed little time to make an impact.

Earning the assist for Mane’s goal after his shot rebounded off the post, the England international’s return to action arrives just as the fixtures pick up pace.

Given that Liverpool play Stoke, Man City and and Sunderland over the space of six days from next Tuesday onwards, we can expect a degree of rest and rotation, allowing Sturridge the chance to build up his minutes after another period on the sidelines.

If – a big if – he can steer clear of injuries, Mane’s imminent departure could even offer Sturridge further opportunity to establish himself under Jurgen Klopp over the next month or so.

Nathaniel Clyne
The 1-0 win at Goodison took Liverpool’s tally to five clean sheets for the season, with four arriving in the last six Gameweeks.

Impressively, Clyne has now collected bonus points on all five occasions that the Merseysiders have chalked up a shutout, underlining just why he’s the priciest pick amongst Jurgen Klopp’s backline regulars.

The Reds are braced for a mixed upcoming schedule, though boast three excellent fixtures (STO, SWA, sun) in the next five that look promising for further defensive returns.

In Decline

Divock Origi
The Belgian’s recent form can barely be faulted, having scored in four successive Gameweeks prior to last night’s blank.

Yet the impact of fit-again Sturridge off the bench is a concern for Origi’s 8.7% of FPL owners and there’s every chance that the England man could nick at least one start off the youngster due to the hectic nature of next week’s schedule.

With Philippe Coutinho also closing in on a return, Origi’s starting berth now appears to be under severe pressure.

Roberto Firmino
It’s six straight blanks now for the Liverpool midfielder, who continues to toil on the left flank as a result of Coutinho’s ankle injury absence.

Although his compatriot is rumoured to be hopeful of returning before the New Year, Firmino – the third most transferred out player last week – continues to lose owners at pace.

Over 10,000 FPL managers have already shipped him since the weekend, with the switch to Theo Walcott looking very appealing ahead of Arsenal’s fine upcoming schedule.

Romelu Lukaku
The decline of Everton’s frontman shows no sign of slowing down after yet another abject display.

After starting the season with a goal or assist in six of his first nine, Lukaku has subsequently blanked in six of the last seven Gameweeks.

The schedule does turn in his favour from Gameweek 22, though there seems little chance that his current 25% ownership will remain loyal until that point.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

High five to Andy hehe, I never expected going Ibra over Kane would've worked out so well. Imagine if Costa hadn't of picked up that yc, there would've been a hell of a Kane firesale this week!

Would be disappointed if this team did not perform over the next 8 GWs:

    Pickford - Grant
    Monreal - Brunt - Friend - Alonso - Jones
Hazard - Sanchez - Phillips - Pogba - De Roon
    Ibrahimovic - Costa - Rondon

Not sure I like the Pogba pick but otherwise looks very good. Maybe getting Benteke in instead of Rondon for Palace's fixtures is also a shout.
Obviously depending on money, but in theory it looks good.

Palace are a team with good fixtures, but poor form = Harry Kane, Dmitri Payet etc. type returns. Stick with teams in form (WBA are 8th in the table!) and good fixtures too (need both).

I know it's foolish to plan ahead and it will inevitably change, but work is slow so thought i'd have a little play around.

Can end up with this for GW 21, what do you think?

    Heaton / Pickford

    Jones / Alonso / Amat / Evans / Barragan

    Rodriguez / Coutinho / Allen / Sanchez / Obiang

    Aguero / Costa / Ibra

Midfield too weak even with the consideration of the big three up top?

    Heaton/Foster

    Sanchez - Siggy/Lallana - Rodriguez/Chadli - Capoue - de Roon

    Ibra - Costa - Aguero

What I take from this article is that Costa has went home to Brazil, Courtois to New York and since Hazard hasn't gone away he therefore is injured. Nothing really substantial I feel.

This one says nearly the exact same thing tbh. He could well be having treatment, I don't dispute that, but neither article is really giving much info aside from the usual "our sources".

I'd agree that it's probably not serious given he completed the 90 at the weekend and was probably the most active player on the pitch.

Basically their M.O. was to film those guys then make a bunch of unsubstantiated assertions about the respective contexts to put them in the worst light possible. (it's like me finding a quote from mr.x saying "I love him" and then posing it after a question; "what do you think of Hitler?") Only pure nonsense can come of it and yet the baying imbeciles of this country swollowed it all up.

Been comparing teams with respect to defensive stats. Is there any consensus on what stats that best correlates with goals conceded?

Example being Liverpool is the best team in terms of goal attempts conceded (esp in the box), but do concede more big chances and errors than Chelsea and Spurs.

    Any thoughts?

My strikers ---> Ibrahimovic, Kane and Costa.

Willing to take a hit to get rid of Costa (got him for 10.7) and Allen.

Who should I bring for 16.0?

    A) Hazard and Barnes (or other striker for 5.6)
    B) Sterling and Benteke
    C) Others (who?)

Don't feel this team is strong enough to do well. Any players worth taking a hit for, already transferred in Ibra for Kane. 0 itb BTW

    Heaton/ Pickford
    Azpi/ Pieters/ Holebas/ Rose/ Amat
    Sanchez/ Hazard/ Allen/ Fletcher/ Zaha
    Costa SUS/ Ibra/ Origi

Mid is very weak, but don't see any obvious improvements without a few hits.

Stoke City have tweeted that Pieters' yellow card picked up against Leicester has been transferred to Martins Indi in a case of mistaken identity...

I want my point back FPL!! 😉

I have no idea how it is even possible to mistaken Martins Indi as being Pieters............... Ref must be blind or something

After a bit of forward planning, my squad looks like it can go in one of 2 directions from about gw20 or so:

    A) Ibra + Costa + Lallana + Anichebe
    B) Ibra/Costa + Rondon + Coutinho + Pogba

Thoughts on which route to take?

Got a few comments recently about why I'm doing so well whilst taking so many hits...and how am I doing it.

To be clear. I'm getting lucky and it's the wrong way to play the game...I will come unstuck.

I only look at my ML when taking transfers. I took Kane out last week because he couldn't do me any harm in my ML because the other two didn't have him.....and I put Ibra in because my son is catching up and he was definitely harming me. Stuff like that.

Playing against two players only in ML you can make strategic teansfers which could (usually) impact your OR negatively but can be fine within in the ML....

I've played a hit a week forr over three years against my son and brother and do some outrageous transfers to try and keep the game even but somehow I keep getting it right. More luck than judgment.

Do people really think Benteke will bang goals with a brilliant looking run of fixtures? He's been very hot and cold this season, I expected more from him and Palace.

Zaha going to afcon will affect his output ?

but those fixtures are delicious. tempted myself

If you already had Zaha would you double up and get Benteke for the next few weeks until the AFCON? Or wait...

You need to look at Palace's attacking stats since Pardew reigned them in a bit. Both of Benteke/Zaha and Palace's stats have fallen off quite badly.

Benteke was very close to the top of the attacking stats and Zaha very close to the top of the mids stats...not any more.

still they offer good value.? cant see any striker below 7.7 with better potential than tekkers (maybe apart from rondon)

I'm saying Nay but then I'm a Spurs fan.

Kane is still a great goalscorer and he'll come good in my opinion, he was on fire before the last 2 games. I still can't believe he didn't even get 1 goal in those games.
