Sadio Mane bags an eighth goal of the season as Liverpool leave it late at Goodison. Daniel Sturridge climbs off the bench to help make the breakthrough as the Reds stand firm in defence to serve up a fourth clean sheet in six.

On The Rise

Sadio Mane
A late winner at Goodison took the Liverpool wide man to just one point behind Eden Hazard in the race for second spot in the FPL midfield standings.

Mane has thrived since Philippe Coutinho limped out of action last month, serving up two goals and four assists in the last five Gameweeks.

Frustratingly for his 20.9% FPL owners, Senegal’s qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (which gets underway in January 14) means they will soon need to make exit plans.

Nonetheless, Mane should still be around for three more Gameweeks, with the Reds facing back-to-back home clashes against Stoke and Man City prior to a trip to Sunderland on January 2.

Daniel Sturridge
Emerging from the bench as a replacement for Divock Origi late in the second-half, Sturridge needed little time to make an impact.

Earning the assist for Mane’s goal after his shot rebounded off the post, the England international’s return to action arrives just as the fixtures pick up pace.

Given that Liverpool play Stoke, Man City and and Sunderland over the space of six days from next Tuesday onwards, we can expect a degree of rest and rotation, allowing Sturridge the chance to build up his minutes after another period on the sidelines.

If – a big if – he can steer clear of injuries, Mane’s imminent departure could even offer Sturridge further opportunity to establish himself under Jurgen Klopp over the next month or so.

Nathaniel Clyne
The 1-0 win at Goodison took Liverpool’s tally to five clean sheets for the season, with four arriving in the last six Gameweeks.

Impressively, Clyne has now collected bonus points on all five occasions that the Merseysiders have chalked up a shutout, underlining just why he’s the priciest pick amongst Jurgen Klopp’s backline regulars.

The Reds are braced for a mixed upcoming schedule, though boast three excellent fixtures (STO, SWA, sun) in the next five that look promising for further defensive returns.

In Decline

Divock Origi
The Belgian’s recent form can barely be faulted, having scored in four successive Gameweeks prior to last night’s blank.

Yet the impact of fit-again Sturridge off the bench is a concern for Origi’s 8.7% of FPL owners and there’s every chance that the England man could nick at least one start off the youngster due to the hectic nature of next week’s schedule.

With Philippe Coutinho also closing in on a return, Origi’s starting berth now appears to be under severe pressure.

Roberto Firmino
It’s six straight blanks now for the Liverpool midfielder, who continues to toil on the left flank as a result of Coutinho’s ankle injury absence.

Although his compatriot is rumoured to be hopeful of returning before the New Year, Firmino – the third most transferred out player last week – continues to lose owners at pace.

Over 10,000 FPL managers have already shipped him since the weekend, with the switch to Theo Walcott looking very appealing ahead of Arsenal’s fine upcoming schedule.

Romelu Lukaku
The decline of Everton’s frontman shows no sign of slowing down after yet another abject display.

After starting the season with a goal or assist in six of his first nine, Lukaku has subsequently blanked in six of the last seven Gameweeks.

The schedule does turn in his favour from Gameweek 22, though there seems little chance that his current 25% ownership will remain loyal until that point.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Good morning all,

As I ponder getting Kun back, I wonder if I've a strong enough midfield.

    Grant / Pickford
    Rose / Alonso / Pieters / Cedric / Amat
Hazard / Sanchez / Phillips / Lallana / De Roon
    Ibra / Costa / Kane

I'll have just enough cash to do Kane>Kun + Rose>Brunt

It's decent. To get the forward line, you need to be prepared to have at least one mid you're not happy about playing most weeks. If you can live with that, go for it

True. Essentially I'll have 2 - Philips and Lallana. The latter aint too bad I suppose and WB's fixtures get quite tasty soon.

Is Firmino to Walcott worth a hit? That home game against Stoke looks like it could be a good one for him if he starts as a false nine but with value dropping I don't want to risk missing out on Aguero.

Do we think Walcott will start all 3 matches for GW18-20?

    26/12 - West Brom (H)

    1/12 - Palace (H)

    3/1 - Bournemouth (A)

    What's the feeling about Origi/Studge.

I'm thinking Studge benched against and starts the one after against the more difficult City fixture followed by Origi starting the one after that. I just don't see Klopp rushing him back....

Not so sure his style is in the mold of a Klopp player. I think he is closer to the Carroll / Benteke style than say Coutinho or Lallana. I think that in terms of ability, Sturridge is way ahead. Obviously, Sturridge is rarely available though.

    Bayern Munich at it again.

Uli Hoeness (Munich president) has identified Ralph Hasenhuttl as a possible candidate for their next manager given the great job he's doing at Leipzig. This comes conveniently a day before both teams play each other to decide who will be top of the BL at Christmas. Funny coincidence that... Kinda similar to what they do with Dortmund/what they used to say about Klopp.

For those trying to rush into Kun's acquisition, do remember that he is no more essential, at least not in Pep's view.
Many talks have been said here when Pep rotated him.

And just remember that Gabriel Jesus will be eligible (if I'm not mistaken), as from January, which will create more competition for Kun.
With Pep Midfielders philosophy, expect Gabriel to share the bigger bunch of minutes with Aguero.
But who knows, not even Pep I guess.
Just wanted to point it out, with so many ppl here trying to rush things.

Absolutely - I think the key is to keep your options open, so if you need to get him you have a route to do it if required. Otherwise, we are going to see loads of hits and (hopefully) burned wildcards to get him in, which will play right into the hands of those who will prepare for the DGWs.

I've held on to him with Diomande as my 3rd striker #4-5-1

Whats the consensus on 3rd striker spot. Who are you getting and why ?

Think likes of Origi, Nacho and Caroll are not worth holding on to

    Candidates are

    A) Tekkers

    B) Rondon

    C) Negredo

    D) Defoe

Possibly going back with my tail between my legs to Benteke, since Palace have a good run coming up and we know Pardew likes to go on a hot streak (what an image).

Means downgrading someone in midfield though. Going to hold Origi for at least next week though.

Yeah I was leaning to Heaton or Valdes the former gives me a 0.3 mill to play with too. Good shout 🙂

With Costa n my bench should I go 352 with De Roon or 442 with Holebas?

Leaning towards 442 at the moment

    Cheers

    1 FT:
    Bank: 1.2

    Heaton
    Walker - Cedric - Pieters
    Sanchez - Eriksen - Payet - Sigurdsson
    Costa - Lukaku - Origi
Subs: Pickford, Capoue, Amat and Evans.

I have to get Ibrahimovic for Lukaku and Payet to sell. Then 8.3 for a midfielder. Should I do this and have some ideas for a good 8.3 midfielder?

Thank you. Looks really good. Have Walcott and Ibra taken for Payet and Lukaku.
