Gareth Bale is “very doubtful” for Spurs game against Chelsea. Emmanuel Adebayor has a foot problem but is expected to play. John Terry and Ramires are passed fit for the clash, while Jamie O’Hara is sidelined for up to six weeks after undergoing hernia surgery:

Andre Villas-Boas had some positive news on the injury front in this afternoon’s press conference. Both John Terry and Ramires are available for tomorrow night’s trip to Spurs, though David Luiz has been ruled out, having failed to recover from a knee problem.

Chelsea have also this afternoon confirmed their Boxing Day clash with Fulham will take place at the scheduled time of 1pm. The game had been under review due to the proposed industrial strike on the London Underground but after consideration, the club have made the decision to go ahead as planned.

Harry Redknapp’s Press Conference was a little more pessimistic in terms of injury news. Although the Spurs boss admitted Aaron Lennon’s hamstring problem is not as bad as first feared, he has concerns over the availability of key players ahead of the Chelsea game, with Gareth Bale the main concern:

Gareth’s struggling at the moment. He hasn’t been able to train. He’s very doubtful. It normally takes six or seven days for Ledley’s knee to go down, so we’ll have to wait and see how it is today and tomorrow. He’ll be 50-50 at best I would imagine. Jermain, again, has a bit of a hamstring. He thinks he’s got a chance, but the physio isn’t keen on him taking a chance. Ade’s got a foot problem, we’ll see how he is. He can’t train today, but we’re hopeful. He doesn’t miss too many games.

Jamie O’Hara is set to miss the next 4-6 weeks after undergoing double hernia surgery. The midfielder was sidelined for the weekend home game against Stoke with a calf injury but the club’s official website revealed today that O’Hara has been bothered with a hernia problem for some time and the decision has been made to operate, thus ensuring he is 100% fit for the rest of the campaign.

Johan Djourou and Kieran Gibbs are both out of Arsenal’s trip to Aston Villa this evening. Arsene Wenger had expected the latter to be available but Gibbs has suffered a setback, meaning either Thomas Vermaelen or Ignasi Miquel could start at left-back. Djourou’s absence means Laurent Koscielny is likely to be fielded at right-back, with Bacary Sagna and Carl Jenkinson still both sidelined.

racism is when you consider someone else inferior/superior to you based on looks.
            When you say:
"why is he so slow? he is black" it's racist a comment
when you insult someone by saying
"you're a black mother fockr" you're just picking a phsysial characteristic of someone to insult... the same as "you're a fat mother fckr"

that's my point. i respect yours...

I'm chinese. Some chinese have narrow eyes, this is true.

That doesn't make it ok for someone to call me a 'slitty eyed mother f*cker', despite the fact it is a physical characteristic of my ethnicity.

I'm afraid to say, that I don't respect your point. You're just plain wrong.

If you'd ever been subject to that sort of discrimination, you wouldn't be saying as such.

                    @JOHND

You do have a point, but its pretty moot.

The physical differences between say Bangladeshi and Chinese (Both asian) are enough for people to distinguish and discriminate against them on different terms.

The physical differences between Irish and English (Both White European) are not enough for people to distinguish and discriminate against them.

                    That is my point.

Although as I've said before, discriminating against anyone on any of the above basis, is I agree wrong.

ok, in that case imagine your wife was black. Do you get it now?

People aren't pissed about the terms just solely for themselves, but for their race - for people they have lived with and experiences related to those terms that have scarred them for many generations to come. It could be your wife - is it really that difficult to understand or relate to.

It seems in terms of "fat c*nt" you are saying the person is fat and a b*tch. In saying you black c*nt, you are saying the person is a c*nt because they are black - therefore racist.

and prejudice and racist are two different things. The FA has charged Suarez for using racist term, which he did - ignorance is not equal to innocense.

Liverpool are claiming the FA are prejudice. They prejudged the situation before having even heard Suarez' side of the story.

Yes and No to this as well, because scientifically, these races do not even exist in this form. Socially, anthropologically, and so forth, what you are calling race is really just a way to attribute how people look like and what their structure is in terms of where they are from. So in a way, you are both right - it is based on race, but "race" as we use it is based on where you are from and how people from that region are physically categorized.

Racism is to do with colour / creed, fat, chubby is prejudist but not racist

That said may take on it is if some one is called a black twat it is racist if the reason you are calling him a twat is because he is black but not if your calling him a twat because he has been a twat, then this is the same as calling someone a fat twat. In the latter case this is just an adjective before a insulting word.

That said further negro is a well known racist term and not the same as using the term black so Suarez should be punished

chubby is not prejudice at all - prejudice is seeing a chubby guy walking up the street and hiding your cheesburger out of fear he will take it from you. Prejudice is seeing a kid with a sideways hat and a swagger and thinking he is going to mess with you. Chubby is not prejudice, its an adjective.

Its not the same. One group of people have a long history of being marginalised and mistreated because of their defining factor. The other group don't.

If fat people were previously removed from their homes, forced to work as slaves and had been treated differently for centuries just for being fat, then it would be the same. As it happens, being fat used to be a sign of wealth and was therefore seen as desirable. Being truly obese is a relatively new phenomenon.

Society takes a hard line on discrimination because it remembers the previous victimisation of these groups and is, quite rightly, mindful that it could happen again if discrimantory acts go unpunished.

I don't think I've ever seen such a sensible discussion about race, on the internet. Seriously, I am actually trying to recall anything similar. As an African-British guy, I've had my fair share of racism and borderline-offensive jokes. I think it all comes down to intent, as far as you can see someones intent.
If the intention is to use race in a derogatory fashion, suggesting anything bad about a certain race is racism. An off-hand remark or comment concerning someones race, with no malice toward a their specific race, is not.

I think we should distinguish between racists and racist terms for this exact reason. We cant condemn someone as a racist for being ignorant, but the truth is that racism grows from ignorance. Racist terms are used without racist intentions. That doesnt make it ok, we really need to realize that we have more responsibility for the choices we make beyond our "sole intentions". If you get drunk and accidentally kill somebody, you may not have had that intention, but you will still be responsible. I know its an extreme example, but the truth is that we need to make it more of our "intention" to know what words mean and how they effect people.

The Nazi symbol used to represent something completely different prior to world war 2, but you wouldnt be sporting it on your jacket claiming you "intend" it in a different way would you? You do understand the significance of that symbol and what it means - Another extreme example, but the truth is that when we become indifferent to symbols and words that have those sorts of origins, racism wins.

How many people will name their child Adolf Hitler? Im assuming phoenetically, it is as pleasant as the next name. But it means something else. We cannot simply hide behind our intentions.

My opinion on this is that if you insult someone based on a characteristic that they cannot control or falsely condemn everyone who shares a particular characteristic then it is wrong.

I would say that an insult to someone about something they are not in control/choose of is wrong. The problem is that there's a bit of a grey area. Example: On one hand, someone could be fat because they really like food and are lazy. On the other hand, someone could have a medical condition and is obese as a result.

The distinction is clear with race, but other things are unclear.

Also, condemning someone who is fat but cannot control/choose this fact is not as insulting someone based on their race. It comes down to cultural/social/historical factors really; the history of slavery vs. obesity being a problem in our society.

    Folks,

can I leave the team, subs and armband like this for GWs 18 and 19? (without making any changes until GW 20 (when I will bring TOT cover).

    Vorm
    Naylor / Evans / Jones
    VDV / Mata / Silva / Nani
    RvP (c) / Ba / Sturidge (vc)

Bench: Krul / Jagielka / Simpson / Surman

check Wenger's comments regarding RVP rest, although it probably wouldn't affect your decision too much. He'd either play 30+ mins or not play at all. Little danger of a 10 minute cameo.

Other than that it looks good to me.

You've made a lot of hits early on. Was that part of your strategy to get a better team value?

Not at all. This is my first time playing and from the beginning I had no strategy and been playing just like that.... Until in one of the early gameweeks I did not do 3 hits (-12 pt) and received only 29 points. Then I started playin seriously (more or less), and it is worth. But I lost too many points in the first 10 weeks....

And RVP, no way I will transfer him, and he is also most obvious captain for me.

I didn't mean to transfer him, just whether you would captain someone else. I would suggest less hits, especially since you already have some team value. That's just my opinion though!

Also, I don't think Wenger cares about that record. RVP doesn't choose when he plays!

      Leaves you with:

      Vorm
      Kompany Brown Evans
      Silva VDV Nani Walters
      RVP Ade Sturridge

and then for GW19 you can get another defender in e.g. Shawcross/Huth because Brown wouldn't be too great vs City.

I know the aim of the Watchlist, like the Scout Picks, is not to be affordable. It is simply to list in order the best players to have for the coming weeks according to the scouts.

However it is a bit depressing that it is jampacked with big hitters. It is pretty indicative of this season's sharp and volatile pricing, rare quality bargains and lack of injuries.

    Sorensen (4.3) | Vorm (5.1)
    Baines (7.7) | Jones (6.8) | Cole (7.1) | Huth (5.6) | Enrique (5.9m)
    Nani (10.2) | Mata (9.8) | VDV (9.9) | Silva (10.5) | Bale (8.8)
    RVP (13.2) | Adebayor (9.1) | Sturridge (7.1)

    Team Value = £121.1m
    Original Starting Value = £114.5m

Bad news for anyone seeking bargains. Vorm, Enrique, Jones and Sturridge were bargains at their original prices I admit and probably are still "good value" but are we going to see any other bargains anytime soon as some of us are idiots and jumped on and off these bandwagons.

In a similar position - my thinking is see how Ba does tonight, if he scores he should rise to 7.5 before Sturridge goes up again so you can see how Sturridge does tomorrow, and still make the transfer in a couple of days if Sturridge is till rising fast. If Ba fails tonight may just make the trade before the price rise.

      Of course, all conjecture.

United needed a player like that for a few seasons now. They could have had Lassana Diarra for about 12 million and he could have done that job - Tiote will need £20mill plus and isnt proven. Diarra may have a bit of an attitude but he could do that job well fro United. Having said that Fergie got Bebe instead so we should be happy
