Next, we turn to our post-Gameweek members article, casting an eye over Spurs’ main men in defence and attack as the Harry Kane exodus picks up pace. Meanwhile, over on the other side of north London, a Gunners’ winger is assessed ahead of a very tempting schedule.

Chelsea’s recent struggles in attack also come under analysis, while we check out the impact of Michael Carrick on United’s big-money signing as the competition for places in our five-man midfields continues to escalate.

    Hello,
I have had 7 consecutive weeks of Red arrow
    Gameweek 10 - Rank 68,929
    Gameweek 17 - Rank 479,774
I dont feel like my team is that bad, and do not want to hit the panic button. could really do with some help and any suggestions, as I seem to be losing the plot!

    Foster, Grant
    Alonso, Holebas, Lovren, Cedric, Amat
    Sanchez, Hazard, Siggy, Capoue, Allen
    Costa, Ibra, Origi

    Squad value 103.1m. ITB 0.1m

You could add some Spurs and Boro defenders and also Phil Jones is a good option to open funds.

In midfield I would try to upgrade Capoue to Zaha or Matt Phillips and in the frontline soon you will need to replace Origi

I know the feeling! I was in a similar position to you at GW10 and have sunk like stone. The last two weeks I've managed to get green arrows and back to 350k...

Keep the faith, your team looks good.

Similar to my situation. I’ve dropped over 200k the last five gameweeks.

Your team looks good, I think. Can’t spot any particularly weak spots. Origi might loose his place at some point, but for now he seems like a good option.

      This is my team:
      Heaton / Foster
      Alonso / Clyne / Cédric / Holebas / Evans
Sánchez / Hazard / Firmino / Fletcher / De Roon
      Ibrahimovic / Costa / Benteke
(1 free transfer, £0.3 in the bank)

Pretty similar to yours, but I obviously lack a decent fourth mid. Would also like to get in a Middlesbrough defender. Any ideas?

Thanks - i feel like our teams are almsot there, like another poster said, a few good captain picks and would probably be a different story.
I am tempted to downgrade Hazard to Coutinho (when fit) and then upgrade Capoue.

Could you downgrade Clyne into Bor Def and then upgrade one of your midfielders?

Thanks! That’s a logical move. However, I would like to have Clyne. I actually think he would outscore most of the midfielders in the same price range. After the Bournemouth game I might consider downgrading Hazard, hoping that Costa would be sufficient, and then upgrade Fletcher to Phillips or Allen. Ideally I’d have both and rotated them accordingly. That could be done if there were a reasonable third forward cheaper than Benteke available. I need a new Vardy.

You could consider Siggy or Wally. Not worth waiting for Cout's return IMO

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Aguero rehiring plans

Who plans to draft Aguero straight back in once his suspension ends. Is he still essential, especially with Burnley at home in Gameweek 20. Is he so good that he can arguably be brought back for City's away clash with Liverpool the Gameweek before?

With Costa suspended, but still looking a great option from GWK 19 onwards, Ibrahimovic firing on all cylinders and premium midfielders like Sanchez screaming for attention is there simply no way back in for Sergio?

Are you planning to get him in and if so what sacrifice will you make?
Will you avoid, buy a big sofa and hope for the best?
Do you think a Sofa is even needed to hide behind anymore when it comes to leaving Sergio out?

Aguero doing well is inevitable some weeks. If you have Costa and Ibra and Sanchez who are all matching him too then great. I can't see a way of restructuring my whole team to get him in quite yet. It's a wait and hide behind the sofa for me for now.

I guess most players above you will play safe by getting Agüero in. My tactic will be to not get him, hoping that everyone above does, and that Agüero will fail miserably—while producing some good efforts to convince people to hold on to him (and a lousy midfield) despite low scores.

Anyone who does get him back in for GW20 has a great captain option. There's other options that week but fixtures are tougher or away from home

      West Ham v Man Utd
      Sunderland v Liverpool
      Spurs v Chelsea
      Bournemouth v Arsenal

That being said for the sake of one game I'll happily put the armband on one of the above fixtures.

Right now I'm not planning to bring him back in and will continue to try and back the "value" pick instead. City aren't blowing teams away right now and they don't seem all that settled. With Everton (a), Spurs (h) and West Ham (a) I'm going to hold out and hope for the best.

That might all change with a hat trick mind you...

I went without Aguero at the start of the season praying he wouldnt deliver I ended up paying for that. I even got to rank 12 overall in gameweek 8.
I'm now around rank 5k imagine if I had his points from the first few game weeks to!
I won't ever be playing another fpl match without Aguero when he is available just not worth the risk in my opinion.
Does no one remember city winning 10 games in a row at the start of the season I don't think they are far away from production runs like that again.

One thing I noticed browsing the top teams in OR this year is that few of them had Aguero. My ML leader who is around the 30k mark has gone without him too.

On the other hand I have kept the faith whenever he's been available and ended up missing out on Sanchez and Hazard hauls as I could only afford one at time, and it happened to be the wrong time. That -1 return as captain is still souring his name for me too 😀

I've got Kane and Ibra. I'll see how they get on over the next couple of weeks, and then probably upgrade one (likely Ibra) to Kun for GW. I'll probably have to downgrade Hazard, and with the spare Chelsea slot, upgrade Walker to Azpil.

In short, I'm going to make sure I have 2FTs in GW20 and then take it from there.

The truth is that 2 or more of the big hitters have to be left out to have a squad.
Do we really want a defence of 4.0-4.5 players from teams that leak goals almost every week?

Really worried about owning any player from Pep's City, especially when the ucl kicks off again.

That said, Kun as a differential is mouthwatering as an FPL prospect as I am sure many will plump for other captains rather than bring him in for that Burnley match.

For me, if i do it, Hazard is the obvious - and blanking since Mark urged us to bring him in - candidate for removal to free up funds. I have Costa Ibra Origi for Xmas, but could well be that Ibra becomes Kun and Haz becomes Pogba (if he continues improving).

Getting him straight back in Jonty.

In my experience its better to arrive early to the party than late.

Saving a FT this week so I can do it without a hit. Looking at Kane & Firmino > Aguero & J Rod / Moses or similar. That will leave me with Costa, Ibra & Kun up top with Haz and Sanchez in midfield...only sacrifice is no L'pool 'cover'

    13. Misery Loves Kompany

I will be bringing him in as soon as I can, and will facilitate his services by a restructure to a 4-3-3 / 3-4-3 rotation policy with a core of-

      Azpi / Alonso / Jones
      Sanchez / Hazard / Sterling(or Walcott)
      Benteke / Aguero / Ibrahimovic
the final outfield spot will either be a cheapo defender (Ake/Pieters) or a fodder mid - Fletcher or De Roon, depending on the fixtures for each, 4-4-2 most weeks looking at how nicely Ake and Pieters rotate.

Yes, no Costa is the risk with this strategy, but hoping I can cover that with Hazard and double Chelsea def. I also think Costa will revert to his petulant, yellow card getting self now the threat of suspension no longer hangs over him.

Planning on downgrading Firmino (or whoever is in that slot by then, currently toying with double up with Walcott) to Philips (great turn of fixtures after Christmas) and Zlatan to Kun. Philips will have to be a fourth midfielder playing most weeks though (de Roon fifth).

Not going to get straight away, will try and time to make the most of Ibra's and then Kun's fixtures, depending on form at the time.

Pep is a manager who is a rotation nightmare for fpl managers, even Aguero is not immune and as we've seen this season, aguero has dropped deeper and deeper and has certainly been required to up his work rate and adapt to peps philosophy. It's a while off but when champions league returns, constant worries over his game time make his captaincy appeal diminish somewhat which is what you expect from a player at that price. Pep has historically rested his main strikers ahead of big games with his time at barca and bayern. All that being said, he scores against Liverpool and the bandwagon will have firmly left the station...

I'm planning to get Aguero back ASAP. At the moment, it's looking like I need a 3rd and 4th midfielder below £6m to get him. What Jonty said on the scoutcast about Chelsea's defenders having a great PPM is very interesting. I may sacrifice midfielders and change formation to play premium defenders around the £6m mark instead.

I sold Aguero 2 GWs before his suspension to enable Costa, Hazard & Alonso so worked out well.
I can get him back fairly easily now if I want by upgrading Costa or Ibra.
It still comes back to the problem of having him at a high value and not captaining him. With Ibra or Costa, Sanchez, Hazard & and probably Coutinho is he a nailed captain every week?
Just with the pattern of this season so far when points are spread around so many players is Kun just putting all your eggs in one basket?
Still wondering about Kane. Didn't start well last season but after Xmas pretty much went point for point with Aguero.

Also 2 red cards already this season causes some concerns.

Think I'll give it a few games but I can only see him coming in for me in a DGW (probably on a WC) if the fixtures are good.

The way I see it, it's a free dice roll... after 4 weeks rest, there's no way he's not playing the big match vs Liverpool.

Would you back him to blank against a rather leaky Liverpool defence? I wouldn't, could grab a haul quite easily.

If that happens I'd rather be driving the wagon, with his points in the bag, rather than trying to jump on the back!

If he somehow blanks then and at the Burnley game, or is rotated, he's the easiest downgrade in the game, funds can go back elsewhere at that point.

I got in Ibra for Aguero and he has been scoring goals and doing quite well for me, so I'm not sure if I want to get rid of him as soon as Aguero comes back.

I'm hoping Costa will come back from his suspension and continue to do well, so I'll keep him.

I also have Sanchez, so there won't be enough money to get Aguero in.

I will probably stay with who I have and if Aguero is doing better than one of my other expensive players, I will then get him in.

I have a selling value of 104.3M, yet I have spent this money. So, if I were to get Aguero, I'd need to downgrade one of my two high priced mids, Sanchez or hazard. I would choose to sell hazard. One possibility is hazard and costa/Kane to Aguero and Coutinho. I'm not sure I want to do this, but that home match against burnley is the type of game where Kun could score 4 goals.

I'm keeping 2FT for GW20, and then seeing once that time comes. It's a question of Siggy and Kane for me. Siggy upgrade to KDB or Kane upgrade to Kun, and downgrade the other one correspondingly. Depends on whether the next big value option is a striker or a midfielder.

I don't think I'm going to bring him back in soon. I was watching the game against Chelsea and even before his red card I was already thinking of selling him ( and other's were also either doing this or already did this as he just wasn't peforming great). He's just not as good this season as he was in previous seasons and Costa and Zlatan are performing very well. Also, City will have the Brasilian wonderkid Gabriel as of January so who knows what Pep has in store with rotation and who knows what.

Probably. The idea of an unusually low-owned Aguero against Burnley has a certain appeal, especially as I'll have missed the Ibra bandwagon due to other issues preventing me from bringing him in.

Right now Hazard seems likely to be sacrificed. I want to keep him for the two upcoming games but beyond that I'd probably be happier with Costa, Alonso and maybe one other Chelsea defender.

I will get him for GW 20 and give him the armband as he could be real differenital, especially with captaincy while his ownership is low.

Will save transfer in GW 19, and then do Sanchez, Hazard and Carroll to Phillips (HUL), Walcott/Coutinho and Aguero for -4.

Could do only Sanchez and Carroll to Phillips and Aguero in 2 transfers as well.

Aguero contingency plans have to be allowed for
It might wise to allow two free transfers coming into the Burnley game just in case you have to accommodate him

I would love him in a big 3 heavy hitter forward line i.e. Aguero/Ibra/Kane and go bargain shopping in midfield
It would be very risky but i think there is a formula where it might work

a wait and see aproach. city is really mixed right now, lots of rotations in formations and players, a weak defence effects the team and bla bla bla. aguero might even be thinking of a transfer, who knows???

i believe when ibra and costa are so on form, aguero might wait a little while before he plays and scores regularly again. though it's not so long, i'd still wait 2-3 gw's

It's the 2nd most dangerous after GW24 in my view. But it's less than 48 hours after GW19 for City. Who knows if Pep will start Aguero or for how long he'll play? I might get super lucky and see him get a 1-pointer cameo, who knows?

If you don't have Aguero you have to expect some painful gameweeks. You'll also have some celebratory ones. I am looking at GW19-31 as a mini-season before DGW time and I believe I'll come out better over that period without Aguero than with him.

          • 16 Years

I don't buy that, he has 2 of the most creative players in the league behind him in Dembele and Eriksen. He's a striker, he needs to get in the right positions and they will find him. They've made very poor strikers look good in the past with their service.

          1. Get up ya bum
            • 16 Years
            9 years, 29 days ago

It's not about the players it's about how they are playing. Dembele can't stay fit, Lamela, alli and eriksen were like a well oiled machine last season. This season it isn't clicking and you can see Poch desperately trying to solve it with all the tweaking of the system every week.
Imo it is why they are off the pace and why they aren't getting the best out of Kane.
Kane is in many ways a poor striker. Other than being a great goalscorer he isn't much chop. Most top teams wouldn't have him lead the line. Poch to his great credit has been able to get the team playing to his strengths and covering his weaknesses. It ain't working this season.
I think Eriksen's crazy involvement is also a testament to this. He is the default option when the rest isn't working, they are just giving him the ball and letting him do it all, such is his skill.

            1. pompeyfan
              • 16 Years

Although it's a controversial point of view, i agree that Kane is a poor striker in many ways, and I remain to be convinced that he will continue to dine at the top table of football.

From just watching Match of the Day he seemed to be peripheral to the play, especially against Hull. Whenever I thought he was going to pop up and finish a chance it was Eriksen busting a gut to get there, not him.

He was lethargic and lacking confidence in the Euros, looked a shadow of himself. He's not fully recovered from that to my mind. I blame Roy.

Kane relies on the team around him to involve him. It's always been the way. He is certainly no Costa. However when the team is clicking and playing to his strengths he is as good a goalscorer as anyone.

    RP (sorry!)

Ah, bloody hell. A lack of attention paid/guts over the past few gameweeks has left me with a bit of stagnation before the Christmas period. Any advice on how to fix this lot?

    Heaton (Pick)
    Alonso Holebas Walker (McAuley Friend)
    Hazard Eriksen Siggy Allen (Fletch)
    Zlatan Kane Defoe

Swapped out Costa>Ibra already this week so no FT, and nothing ITB. I've been so late in getting on the 3-5-2 wagon as a result of good fortune every week with a slightly reshuffled front 3, but now seems the time.

Need to bring in either Wally or Sanch asap. Worth following the general trend and selling Kane for a sub-8m ST then upgrading Allen to Wally or even Eriksen to Sanch?

Advice appreciated to save my Christmas cheer

What are your thoughts on my potential move? Would be interested to know.

Kane to Benteke for -4 doesn't look great but if it means Walcott in for Can/Capoue is that not a good thing?

Lose flexibility up front a little but nothing another hit can't fix as required and I'm not looking at Aguero or Costa right now.

I did the same Sanchez & Can move you did.
I've got the same issue with weak 4th/5th mid.

Not sure whether I'm clutching at straws but still think Can could be okay even as a 4th mid.

I can see you wanting to get Walcott in. I'm probably doing Siggy to Walcott after Swansea's 2 home games.

Not sure Benteke will get too much next 2 games anyway but after that fixtures are ridiculous.
Walcott's minutes because it's Xmas could be dodgy.

For me it's about Hazard & Carroll next 2 GWs if they don't turn up then there's a lot of scope to change things.

I'm thinking more along the lines from Jan of Siggy to Walcott, Carroll to Benteke and Hazard funds to a 2nd Chelsea defender & Can/De Roon upgrade.

You gotta love the terrible British press when it comes to making a scapegoat of people. Sure Ozil is quite lazy but I'm pretty sure he wasn't bought for his amazing tracking back and picking up of stocky central defenders at corners lol.

I think you've hit the nail on the head here. Since they got rid of Viera and Petit and stopped getting 15 red cards a season, Wenger has constantly talked about "character", which shows he thinks it's been a weakness.

That is also very true. You need to play to his strengths and give him that freedom in the attacking third. I still do think he could do a bit more work in terms of defending but a compromise has to be made. As you say, too much of a team player and you lose his brilliance.

Our press is horrendous generally, and not just in terms of sports coverage. I'm no fan of Gary Neville but when the journos on the Sunday Supplement accused him of 'bullying' Karius it may have been the most hypocritical accusation of all time.

Ozil has always been a target for some reason, probably they distrust him as he is foreign and has a languid style. He's the type of player you could get Harry Redknapp to say he doesn't "buy".

Agreed, Ozil is a PLAYMAKER - He can only do that If the rest of team grow some balls and step up. Against Everton and Man city, arsenal took an early lead and took a step back instead of going for second and finishing game, both city and everton were there for the taking. Arsenal went to City to play on the counter. But ended up parking a shitty bus.

G nevile pointed out in the game where Ozil and sanchez both urging team to press up higher but CBs not brave enough to do so.

On the point of ozil being lazy, Just look at hazard this season, hes not being asked to track back as much and team is reaping rewards. TBH the problem is arsene wenger, hes a dinasour now. He just can compete with the intensity in play the rest have City, totenham, chelsea, liverpool, barca, dortmund, madrid all the best teams have that intensity. Never seen arsenal do high press affectively.

So LOL - Ozil is world class - A lot of teams would take him of arsenal given the chance.

Didn't know someone brought it up and found it interesting. Anyway, fair argument, but then it's not so straightforward with them against the tougher teams. They won't score as many, and have quite a few options to share the points. Compare that to Chelsea, where it's easier to retain assets where Diego and Hazard are involved in most everything.

Yeah! Rotation risk i guess. Don't want to do another transfer to get him out later. That's why I was considering a Boro defender. They are pretty solid, decent fixtures, cheaper and less of a rotation risk. Plus gives me extra bucks to spend on mid/forward.
