His biggest tally of the season. A third successive double-figure total. Sixty-eight points in his last seven Gameweek starts.

We can’t deny the numbers – Zlatan Ibrahimovic is delivering and refusing to leave the door ajar for a cast of competitors up front.

Both Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero are now back from the cold and, while we will doubtless begin measuring up for the surgery to install one of that pair alongside the Swede, it currently seems unthinkable to drop the Manchester United striker.

Having scored or assisted 16 of 26 goals scored while he’s been on the pitch, Ibrahimovic has been involved in 61% of United’s goals. While Jose Mourinho’s men have yet to hit the heights to suggest that they are a true attacking force, that’s a difficult statistic to ignore.

Zlatan’s fixtures remain strong and, seemingly classed as “undroppable” by Mourinho; there appears little or no counter argument. Ibrahimovic increased by 0.3 in price ahead of today’s deadline and, again, he’s already ranked second only to Costa for transfers, with another hike looming.

If we wish to opt for two heavyweights in our forward lines, our decision currently appears to create a head-to-head between Costa and Aguero: two strikers who present two very different scenarios.

Chelsea are undoubtedly pacesetters supreme. Their current form and confidence cannot be questioned and, while the fixture list remains demanding, it would be brave to underestimate Antonio Conte’s side against any opposition.

Manchester City’s fixtures are also testing, but they will go to Anfield on New Year’s Eve still in stuttering form.

The Gameweek 17 victory over Arsenal looked priceless in re-establishing their status as title challengers but the performance in tonight’s 3-0 win at Hull City was, for long periods, still unconvincing.

Aguero may be able to circumvent any malaise and doubts – arguably, he could flick the switch and re-invigorate City’s season.

However, at 12.8, he costs a princely sum which would surely restrict flexibility in midfield or defence. In many ways, Aguero now represents a gamble.

That seems an unthinkable and unlikely sentence to write on these pages. The Argentine has, for so long, been a mainstay of the Fantasy Football Scout community and an asset that requires little thought or research. But that is surely no longer the case.

Having missed seven matches of the season through ill-discipline and, with the jury still out on Pep Guardiola’s side, the choice between Costa and Aguero is not straightforward and even appears weighted in the Chelsea man’s favour.

Currently 2.1 cheaper than Aguero, the Spaniard has shown unerring consistency and, crucially, could allow us to retain significant funds in midfield, or even opt for a Blues pairing in defence.

But, as we’ve seen, the landscape can shift so quickly. With just a matter of days before Gameweek 19, our opinions and plans have to remain flexible.

Midfield assets like Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez, in particular, are under constant pressure to perform now that Aguero is back in the game.

Hazard’s spot-kick against Bournemouth may have kept talk of an exodus subdued for now, although two goals in six Gameweek starts is still not enough to justify his selection now that Costa has returned to the equation. We need more from Hazard against Stoke City.

As for Sanchez, he hit a post and fired in more attempts than any other player in Monday’s matches but has now produced just a single goal since his heralded hat-trick at the London Stadium back in Gameweek 14.

Arsenal still appear to be struggling at the Emirates without Santi Cazorla in the double pivot. That needs to change for the visit of Big Sam’s Crystal Palace: we perhaps need to see Sanchez back in the striker’s role. We certainly need him back in the points to stave off any talk of exit plans.

Again, such a knee-jerk reaction seems unthinkable when we look back on the scramble for the Chilean’s services only last month.

But that’s typical of this campaign and, for tonight at least, the only current certainty appears to be relentlessly providing and scoring goals for Manchester United.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How's people's team value looking? still increasing week by week? Mine seems to have settled for now around the 105.5/106 mark

Just out of interest and to give mine a bit of context

Yep solid. I was playing that game religiously until I willingly embraced Costa's .3 drop last week. I'd be more than happy with gaining an extra 1m and sticking around 106.5/107 consistently.

Had a jump from 104.5->105.5 a few weeks back but got stuck on 105.5 for 2 weeks and now two consecutive weeks with 105.7. Seems like some of us have settled around that mark for the moment

I'm thinking of doing the following transfers after the next gameweek:

    Hazard -> Zaha
    Siggy -> Philips
    Origi -> Kun

That would give me Kun, Ibra and Costa up top. However, my midfield would be Sanchez, Walcott, Zaha and Philips.

Is that a worthwhile sacrifice? I really want Kun back as he can explode at any time, and the two midfield cheapies have good form and fixtures. However it still looks like quite a big gamble!

A very big gamble but I don't totally hate it. I don't have the balls to do a move like that but, like you said, Phillips and Zaha have great fixtures after next week.

Origi will likely lose his place soon if Sturridge is back.

Hazard hasn't been overly consistent with his returns (despite looking awesome yesterday) and Swansea are terrible, which limits Siggy's output.

    Morning all,

Would be interested to get your thoughts here if you have a moment..

    Heaton (Robo)

    Alonso, Cedric, Pieters, Amat, Janmaat

    Hazard, Sanchez, Wally, Siggy, Capoue

    Ibra, Costa, Carroll

    1.1 itb, 1ft

This week I'm thinking Janmaat to Brunt then following moves over next couple of weeks would enable Aguero.

Hazard, Siggy, Cedric, Carroll to Phillips, Rodriguez, Ake, Kun.

Too top heavy ? I'm not sure it's worth it plus rules out Mkhitaryan and flexibility elsewhere in team.

Similar idea to mine above. Having that front line looks irresistible if you can reasonably make it work elsewhere.

I would be wary of JRod, they have a number of options up front.

I wouldn't be especially cut up about not being able to get Mhki.

    Captain dilemma for GW19?

    A. Sanchez
    Pros:
Explosive ability and his time may be coming again (was quite unlucky not to score a couple v WBA).
Playing against a team that has been shipping goals galore to date.
    Cons:
May not be guaranteed to be the main man up front if Wally's out and/or Giroud starts again.
Big Sam in as new manager may tighten up Palace as a unit.

    B. Hazard
    Pros:
Looked different class against BOU and was unlucky not to have scored bigger.
On pens and with the pace of those CHE forwards, always a good chance of one I feel.
    Cons:
No assists since GW11 and only 3 assists all season.
Costa's return may steal his limelight.

    C. Ibra
    Pros:
Form, just look at the numbers he's been racking up lately.
Other players (especially Pogba operating behind him now) creating more around him, increasing his output potential.
    Cons:
MID have been a decent defensive unit thus far.
Fatigue may now start to become a factor. He's been playing every minute and putting himself about, coming deep and working hard for the team at 35 years young!

Just my random thoughts on my main three captain choices for the upcoming GW. Which camp are you in and why?

Yeah, he seems to be a bit of a machine, he wont be benched but maybe not at 100%. But with pens, being the focal point and the others playing well around him he's still a great choice 🙂

I could all get four (SV = 104.5), and would likely do so by downgrading Siggy to a 5.5 priced mid. My bigger decision is whether to get Aguero at all. Ibra and Costa arguably are sufficient, but Kun's explosiveness, and burnley gw20, are difficult to ignore,

Really tough to get him back in, would be for one of the two you name although they can both deliver big hauls. City performances put me off at the moment.

    Rondon and Pedro
    or
    Defoe and Zaha

Currently have the latter pair but I think the change is wise with Zaha's possible ACON etc? I have a wildcard that has to be used by 30 Dec.

I like the look of Pedro for only 7.0, wish I had an extra CHE spot for him!
Zaha is a gamble as you point out

As part of my Kun reshuffle I have this dilemma:
    A. Eriksen & Carroll
    B. Siggy & Origi

OK guys, given the amount of dishonest people on this site, I propose you this game.

I challenge everyone who thinks that Walcott has 75% chance of playing in the next game to the following bet:

I pay you 75 pounds if he does not play, you pay me 25 if he does.

    Who accepts?
