Gameweek 18 comes to its conclusion this Wednesday evening as Southampton welcome Tottenham Hotspur to St Mary’s.

Claude Puel’s men seek a fourth successive clean sheet in front of their own supporters, with ever-present Virgil van Dijk (13% ownership) the most popular Saints player by some distance in Fantasy Premier League.

After netting twice in the 3-1 win at Bournemouth, Jay Rodriguez retains his role up front and is afforded another chance to play his way into our plans ahead of some fine upcoming fixtures.

Back-to-back home blanks against Hull and Burnley persuaded many to part company with Harry Kane last time out – the Spurs frontman was second only to Diego Costa for transfers out in Gameweek 18. Nonetheless, a big performance could have a big effect in the FPL standings – Kane is the sixth most captained player for this round of fixtures.

His Tottenham team-mate Christian Eriksen also earned significant sales after failing to deliver points against the Clarets, yet both have the underlying numbers to punish those who chose to look elsewhere.

My current front eight are Hazard, Lallana, Sanchez, Siggy, Walcott, Costa, Ibra & Origi. I wanted a decent eight to cover Xmas period.

To get Aguero in and not lose Costa, Ibra and Sanchez, I'm considering the options below.

    A) Hazard & Origi to Aguero and cheap 5th mid

    B) Siggy, Walcott & Origi to Aguero and 2 cheap mids

    C) Forget about Aguero for the minute and decide on either downgrading/upgrading my 5th mid/3rd forward.

    Any thoughts?

Theo Walcott is expected to miss the match against Crystal Palace on Sunday and the trip to Bournemouth on 3 January because of a calf problem, meaning Giroud could continue to deputise in his absence. Having returned to pre-season late after helping France reach the Euro 2016 final, he was limited to three substitute appearances by the end of September before a groin injury forced him to miss a further four weeks. From the Guardian website today hidden in an article about Giroud....... Wally looks cooked again tempted by Ali.

Aguero's first games after injuries and suspensions:

    11/12:
    GW9: goal vs Man Utd(a)
    GW32: blank vs Arsenal(a)

    12/13:
    GW5: blank vs Arsenal(H)
    GW23&24: blank vs Fulham(H) (only 9') and blank vs QPR(a) (full 90')
    GW31&32: blank vs Newcastle(H) (19'), goal vs Man Utd(a) (19')

    13/14:
GW22: goal and assist vs Cardiff(H) (just 28')
    DGW34: blank vs Liverpool(a) (22') and assist vs Sunderland(H) (57')

    14/15:
    GW21&22: blank vs Everton(a) (23') and yellow card vs Arsenal(H) (90')

    15/16:
    GW13: goal vs Liverpool(H) (66')
    GW17: blank vs Arsenal(a) (63')

    16/17
    GW6: 2 goals vs Swansea(a)

I'd say that Burnley at home is a fixture easy enough to bring Aguero in.

This is ridiculous, sorry. Coming back from a suspension and from an injury are quite different things.

Aguero will have been out for exactly 4 weeks come the Liverpool game. 4 weeks when he has presumably trained normally every day. And when he has been itching to get back and play. He may lack 10% of match sharpness but that's it.

Had he been injured - let's say a hamstring strain - he'd have been with doctors, in physio, doing RICE, waiting till he was allowed to run, waiting till he was allowed to run and turn, waiting till he was allowed to sprint, waiting till he was allowed to have contact and then waiting till he was allowed to train fully with his colleagues. And he'd still have the nagging doubt at the back of his mind of whether the injury was fully recovered because an injury like that can recur if not.

There is zero sense in comparing what a player does coming back from something like that with what he does when he has had no injury at all.

Finally, can you (or anyone) see Liverpool v City being a cautious, defensive game? I can't. It's more likely to be a 3-3 than a 0-0. If you want Aguero back it's a perfectly good fixture. Probably better than Burnley actually, because that is less than 48 hours later so Pep may be tempted to rotate and manage gametime (not that he needs much temptation to do that). And is against a team that will doubtless defend for their lives as they did at Old Trafford.

Thoughts on this squad for the next 5-6 rounds of fixtures new year onwards ? Not a WC, obviously.

    Heaton. Pickford.
    Azpi. Amat. Ake. Brunt. Friend.
Sanchez. Hazard. De Roon. Lallana. J Rod
    Ibra. Costa. Robson

Leaves me with 0.6 in the bank. Only concern would be no Spurs though. Thoughts ?

So out of everyone I could have captained last weekend (ibra, Sanchez, Eriksen, hazard, lallana) I went for Sanchez and he got the lowest score. Typical of my captaincy luck this season, so who to go for this weekend? Same lot to choose from, with Costa added into the mix. Thinking Sanchez again against palace, but would Ibra be a safe bet?

Why is that incompetence, am I a fortune teller? I thought Sunderland would park the bus and Sanchez's stats meant he was due. On any other day with 9 shots on goal and hitting the post he could've got a hat trick...

I went for Ibra thankfully but it's not going to be as easy against Middlesborough. I'm wary of Sanchez if Walcott is out and he's moved out to the wing. Tempted to go for Costa as he will be fresh and likely to get at least one goal

I don't usually ask for pure pointers but every week I'm losing ground in my mini-leagues but I don't know what to do to gain ground (I'm used to doing a bit better than this!)

    I have 2FT and 0.4 ITB.

    Heaton (Pick)

Lovren , Alonso , Holebas (Francis , Amat)

Sanchez , Hazard , Siggy , Phillips (Can)

    Ibra , Costa , Benteke

Depends if you bought him for 8.9 or 9.0. If you got him at 8.9 it will drop to 9.1

Capoue & Benteke or Sterling & Anichebe? obviously Capoue and Anichebe would be bench fodder, so real question is who scores higher, Benteke or Sterling?

Need to ship Vertonghen to enable a striker upgrade. Should I get

A - Brunt (assist machine and playing OOP)
B - McAuley (capable of scoring at set pieces)
C - Jones (tricky games after Boro)
    D - Other
