Less than 48-hours after the end of the previous round of fixtures, the festive schedule serves up a Friday evening “treat” as Gameweek 19 gets underway at the KCOM Staidum.

Hull City’s home form could barely be more encouraging for Everton. The only side yet to chalk up a clean sheet in front of their own supporters, the Tigers also boast the joint-worst home scoring record, netting just nine times in as many matches.

Owned by 5% of Fantasy Premier League managers, Robert Snodgrass is clearly the man most likely to do the damage – the Scot has already served up three double-figure hauls at the KCOM.

Wins against Arsenal and Leicester in the last three have reignited Fantasy interest in Ronald Koeman’s men as the Toffees looks to take advantage of some fine winter fixtures.

With three goals in the last four Gameweeks, Romelu Lukaku has proven a more popular transfer target than Sergio Aguero this week, with over 50,000 FPL managers drafting in the big Belgian ahead of tonight’s deadline.

Koeman moves back to a four-man defence this evening after earning just a fourth clean sheet of the season at Leicester City with a three-man backline. Disappointingly, that sees the 4.0 priced Mason Holgate drop the bench and both Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines reverting to traditional full-back roles.

Place is his to lose. Has played well. Jose said last week that he might not be able to play 2 games in 3 days though. But in general he is nailed.

Nice Sky Sports bit for Snodgrass' set pieces. Amazing technique and so difficult for a keeper.

I've always been curious at to how a goalkeeper positions his wall. When I was a keeper I always stood on the post and had the last man in line with the ball. These days there is always an extra man wide of the far post angle, players like Payet use this man as a decoy/pinpoint and can put excessive curve on the ball, if the man isn't there he has no reference and the keeper sees it earlier.

Being on the other side of the perspective, I totally get that as a free kick taker. Love having a reference point in the wall, sometimes we add players to the wall to give ourselves that reference

I think it's harder to shape the ball directly over the wall than it is to shape it over and around the wall. You can't get the dip without the curve, I think. With my wall technique you either curve it over the wall towards the central of the goal or I see it early as you try the hit the top corner.

Exactly, and this your technique makes free kicks from the same side as the dominant foot a pain in the arse. Taking free kicks from the right side while being right footed is very difficult because without the reference point there is a huge tendency to hit the middle of the goal due to natural curve when aiming to the right side of the goal. The reference point helps measure the curve. Don't know why footballers/coaches don't think about this.

Yep, I think with a right footer from the left I would have less men in the wall as essentially I want to see the ball as soon as possible. That's where the difference is between me and someone facing Gareth Bale, he won't see the ball until the very last minute with all his 6'3 defenders in the wall.

Me and my 5'8 max buddies in youth level thought walls were literally pointless and would always put the smallest players there and basically let them have a free shot from 20-30 yards out.

My key: The wall is as much of a hindrance as a help against a good FK taker, IMO.

                9 years, 1 month ago

Exactly. The wall is necessary but it also sacrifices a lot of a keeper's advantage. Tons of it also comes down to the keeper's positioning too. I couldn't believe how many goals we let in because our keeper committed to the wall's side, and the FK taker just hit it into the visible side. I've started taking free-kicks that way too, just curling it into the visible side. Somehow the post acts as a very good visual aid for this.

If I can see the strike straight away then i'm not going to be premeditating the save either. Also if he keeps shuffling to the wall side get him to start in the middle of the goal, helps for body shape and weight distribution if he's as still as possible when he sees the ball trajectory.

Take a man from the middle of the wall so the keeper can see the strike earlier. Maybe put a guy on the post in shorter free kicks too.

Good point. I do the same with walls.

It's all for the reference point. We also do it for some trick plays. Sometimes we have someone run over the ball, and around the wall, and the person on the side of the wall (usually the strongest player) essentially blocks off the wall from defending the through ball to the runner. Scored so many goals with this trick.

quite fancy Mkhi as a differential and rising in price tonight. But don't know who to shift to get him in?

It's either Siggy or Firmino out but both can score big.
Siggy is in a dire team and uses up more cash in the swap
Firmino was off form but with Mane heading off he could be a gem.

good to go IMO. Sterling is a nice diff as are baines and ward. Not 100% sure on double Chelsea defence as their fixtures get harder but not being in Europe should guarantee minutes for cahill and courtois. Presume you intend to use baines all the time and think he is due a few good returns second half of the season. Team is not too template and fixtures are favourable over next 6 matches.

Word of warning though ...... most will save their wildcards for dews.

It's a first half of the season strategy anyway. With games being postponed by Cup matches in the second half of the season this strategy has a good chance of leaving you without a keeper.

      Mulling over the same dilemma.

      1 transfer Pickford to Henessey

2 transfer Pickford, Holebas to Foster, 4.4

Foster has slightly nicer fixtures and better Heaton rotation

Currently leaning towards the 2...looking for the 4.4...possibly Martin Kelly, Nyom (if no ACON), Maguire today caught the eye

      Best move here?

      A) Haz, Defoe > Lallana, Costa -4
      B) Siggy > Lallana
      C) Cedric > Baines
      D) Cedric, Capoue > Cahill, DeRoon -4 (allows A gameweek after next).

      Kane/Defoe/Pedro => Agüero/Rondon/Phillips -4?

Kun (BUR) Rondon and Phillips (HUL)
      vs.
Kane (CHE) Defoe (LIV) Pedro (tot)

Could potentially make up the -4 in the first week already.

But does it make sense to you also longer term?

      3 - Baines, Snodgrass (30)
      1 - Mirallas, Barkley (27)

Barkley drops from 3 to 1 and Baines gets 3

Glad I got Baines for a bit of interest in FNF, but that's as far as he's going. Everton really are poor.

      Coming soon....Baines > Valencia or Bertie...probably Bertie.

Good thing is they can only Improve, Koeman doesn't have the squad atm. I think he will stick to 3 at back system now, Full backs are his most creative players in current squad

Not for the next game. Bertie and Cedric press very high...especially Bertie.

Four at the back again next match.

Def not 1 or 2, with Rooney injured and Sanchez a human engine. Hazard will get limited minutes and kun will also.

        1 Ask Mourinho
        2. Ask Wenger
        3. Ask Conte
        4. Ask Pep

Silly question really as who knows ?

        Kun...?
There's no way hazard will get a rest against Spurs, and ibra plays every minute.
Sanchez should start if walcott and ox still ain't fit

You'd think Jakupovic would have half a chance of winning his place back.

      At 3.9, I wouldn't say no.

No, Phelan said he was pleased with how Marshal reacted and kept his confidence.

He made some good saves after the blunder.

Really tempted to do Holebas Siggy Kane to Brunt Stanislas Kun (-4), as opposed to Siggy Kane to Phillips Kun.
