Sergio Aguero continues to create drama.

Today’s first act was an early afternoon bombshell from Manchester which sent shockwaves as Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet hit home.

Then, as the clock struck four, the second act followed: enter Aguero stage left to revive a ten-man City with a finish of sublime quality.

The full performance, spanning three hours, with Pep directing and Aguero as the dashing leading man, summed up our season so far with the Argentine.

It seems the days when Aguero settled in our squads and quietly went about the business of saving our Gameweeks are long gone.

Now the striker seems to insist on seeking the headlines and, just when we begin to settle on the idea of Aguero returning to his familiar groove, Pep intervenes with his own unpredictable flashes.

Some may have anticipated a benched Aguero against Burnley but I was certainly not among them.

Foolishly attempting to play “second guess Pep”, I presumed that he had earmarked the visit of the Clarets as an opportunity to ease Aguero back into goalscoring form.

Instead, according to his post-match comments, he looked to protect his striker from exertion following his unconvincing run-out at Anfield.

“He played 90 minutes after four games out and I did not consider him playing 90 minutes again after two days.”

That seems plausible but why start him on the bench rather than use him to get in front and then hook him early?

Match fitness is surely the issue, and, with a rest in the FA Cup tie next weekend on the cards, why not allow Aguero to regain that sharpness with a start?

Such questions and arguments fall on deaf ears: Pep doesn’t answer to me, other Fantasy managers and perhaps not even to the City fans. Judging by his post-match interview, he barely answers to journalists.

We know he plays by his own rules and that those rules are so often hideously difficult to decipher.

By the end of act two, Aguero had delivered. A seven point return isn’t perhaps a cause for celebration for the 135,000 who transferred him in, or indeed the 11% who gave him the armband. But it came as a huge relief given the reaction at 2pm.

However, do today’s events add to the doubts and concerns surrounding Peps approach to Aguero?

Given that City’s Champions League campaign will accelerate again in February and, by that time, they may even be cast adrift in the title race, will Pep’s attitude to Aguero’s pitch time hinder the striker’s potential further?

There is also another factor.

Gabriel Jesus is now a Manchester City player. A precocious talent, Pep has made it clear that he is about to become another option.

“Now Gabriel Jesus is coming so we will have of course three strikers who can sense a goal.”

This won’t help matters.

We had doubts already but Pep’s approach and teamsheet for Burnley’s visit to the Etihad, just day’s after losing ground following the defeat to Liverpool, has perhaps compounded matters.

Following two acts of ill-discipline, we’re not sure if we can trust Aguero. We’re also not sure if Pep can be trusted to get him on the pitch in the first place.

Aguero had the final say with another reminder of his brilliance. We know the quality he brings but are we willing to risk the hefty fee to buy into the circus that comes with it?

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Thoughts would be appreciated!

    1) Eriksen+Origi -> Phillips+Defoe
    2) Lallana+Origi -> Phillips+Defoe
    3) Origi -> Andre Gray
    4) Save

    Grant
    Alonso-Ake-Jones
    Alexis-Haz-Erik-Lallana
    Costa-Ibra-Origi
    (Pick; Fletcher, Evans, Amat)

I think Origi should go if you can. I'd rather have Benteke than Defoe I think... 3) is probably the safest option but none of them look particularly exciting.

Unless you want the cash for elsewhere, I'd save. Origi may be involved again if Stude is injured, plus Mane is off to Africa. Eriksen and Lallana are both playing well.

Maybe i shoukd teplace haz to pedro and free up funds that way, tho I'm trying to resist that temptation...

In need of a minor overhaul due to injuries, doubtful starts and Mané!

    Heaton (SOU)
Valencia (LIV) *Alonso (lei) *Smith (hul)
Sanchez (swa) Eriksen (WBA) *Mane (AFCON) Phillips (tot)
Aguero (eve) Ibrahimovic (LIV) *Origi (mun)

*Pickford (STK) de Roon (wat) Pieters (sun) *Collins(CPL)

    How do these moves look?:

    Smith, Mané, Origi >

    A. Baines, Alli, Rondon (0.0)
    B. Brunt, Lallana, Defoe (0.1)
    C. Ake, Alli, Defoe (0.0)

    Loris, Heaton
    Alonso, Holebas, Cedric*, Friend, Amat
Sanchez (c), Hazard, Phillips, Antonio, de Roon
    Ibra, Kane, Defoe

    2 ft, 1.8 itb.

Planning to use one of the ft's tonight to avoid Cedrics price drop, and save other ft closer to next gw deadline. But who should I get? Considering the likes of Brunt, Ake and Baines. Other options?

    Heaton / Pickford*
    Alonso / Jones / Brunt / McAuley / Amat
    Sanchez / Eriksen / Mane* / Phillips / Capoue
    Zlatan / Costa / Origi*

2.3m in the bank and I have several options:

    A) Origi and Mane --> Aguero and Stanislas(-4)

    B) Origi and Mane --> Lukaku/Giroud/Benteke/Defoe and Coutinho(-4)

    C) Mane --> Coutinho and wait on Origi till next week

    D) Take Mane's price drop and wait till more information tomorrow or the next day!

I have exact funds to do this tonight
Origi & Can to F Campbell & Ali
Know Campbell not a starter, but only have 4.4 and missed Barnes rise
Concerned about origi game time, and can not a big scorer.. Ali on the rise has me tempted
    Team is
    Foster/Jaku
    Alonso/Jones/gibson/brunt/Pieters
    Hazard/sanchez/phillips/lallana/can
    Kane/ibra/origi

My midfield currently has Sanchez, Can, Lallana, Coquelin and Phillips in it. Need to upgrade Coquelin to someone but i keep coming back to Palace players like Cabaye and Townsend.

104.8 if I remove all players in transfer mode.

I've only got significant gains stored in Alonso and Sanchez (roughly 1m rise in each)

All others are recent-ish transfers in, or non-risers, they're only 0.1m-0.3m more than the buying price.

No players that have gone down in value

Sums up the wildcard situation quite well IMO - posted by Business Cat about 45 mims ago:

"If my team was utter dogturd, I'd wildcard now to have any chance of respectable rank and overturning a mini-league. That in itself doesn't make you a bad player.

What does make you a bad player is arriving at this GW with a team that is dogturd.

If you'd played the first half of the season well, you'd now have a team (without wildcarding) that's over 90% composed of the 20-30 FPL players that those wildcarding now are looking to bring in.

I wouldn't imagine at the end of the season that the top 10K will contain many teams that have wildcarded before DGWs and used the two good chips early."

I tend to play the season in two halves.

First half, don't be scared to take hits. 2 hits every 3 GWs is high, but acceptable...build team value, jump on players early.

Entering the 2nd half of the season, you'll hopefully have a formidable point-scoring machine (and still be well placed in OR and MLs). Stop taking hits immediately!

Your "superior" team will then pull everyone back towards you like quicksand.

As long as you resist the urge to take further hits, they'll find it difficult to compete...if they take hits to try and compete...even better...like struggling to break free...they'll just sink into the quicksand faster 🙂

I don't think you can plan a season like that personally, every week is different so I don't think you can plan transfers/hits like that.

          Obviously depends on what happens.

Long term injuries and bans are always gonna f%%k things up and cause the odd hit.

I wouldn't be going anywhere near an Aguero though (unless he really did start killing it week after week)

Injury/suspension to him would mean a team would require major surgery to redistribute funds to good use.

Far less likely to happen with a cadre of 8-10m players who can come in/out as required.

I've found that taking things a week at a time and thinking for longer term before selling players has gained me significantly more points and more TV without having to sacrifice points for TV.

    (Bottomed... sorry)

Do I make this change to captain Sanchez tomorrow? (SKY)

    Kane > Sanchez?

    Heaton
    Prodl / Gibson / Alonso
    Hazard / Lallana / Phillips / Snodgrass
    Aguero / Kane / Costa
